Adorable breakfast place we discovered almost on accident! Honestly I probably would have driven right by it were there not so many excellent reviews here on Yelp, and I'm so glad we stopped! We went in shortly after what must have been a rush because every one of the tables was occupied or dirty, but a table was cleaned for us and we were seated right away. Our breakfast was hot and delicious, with generous portion sizes. Our waitress was very nice. The whole place felt family-owned and very homey. They couldn't fit another seat in here if they tried, and there was a ton of interesting stuff on the walls to look at. We absolutely loved it here and would definitely go back! read more

On a weekend trip to Big Rapids, stopped by at Alamode Cafe for brunch. The entire experience was very satisfying. My friends and I got there and were seated outside in the patio. Immediately we were given the menus and were offered coffee and water. The ladies did an excellent job letting us ask questions and accommodating us with anything and everything we had asked for. Both ladies that served was were very kind and generous. We ordered food and it came out in a very timely manner. My friends and I ordered several entrees and none of them were short of amazing. If I had to choose one meal that I would get over an over again, it would probably be the "Shotgun" meal. Its made with 5 different cheese, potatoes, your choice of meat and your style of eggs. Oh and also toast on top of that! It was so delicious! Definitely will be back here on my next up north trip. read more

Update since new location. We have gone twice to the new location and while the food is outstanding the service has dramatically slipped. The first time we went our waitress forgot to enter our order and we had a significant delay. Thankfully the news of the delay came with the staff comping our meal (without us asking). Our second visit was just subpar service. We were told that food would be running a bit late as a number of people had just been seated. That was fine, but during the delay our waiter never stopped by the table or provided drink refills. The new location now hosts smaller glasses and this was disappointing. When our food came out, it wasn't correct, although not enough to send back. My cheeseburger had no toppings, we received pickles we had asked to not be on our plate and they forgot a side dish. Our server delivered the food to a table of empty glasses and again no offer of a refill. We were to hungry to think of it. Only when the check was delivered we're we asked if we wanted a refill on our drinks. Really hope the service can turn around. This place was a gem. I look forward to some good trips to update this review back to 5 stars. read more

This is the best place in town to eat (I PROMISE), delicious home style cooking. We had the breakfast special the eggs were perfectly cooked to my request. We were late enough so we saw the lunch specials going out the special was Chicken Stew over Biscuits all house made, and included an ice cream sunday for desert. We were so impressed we had lunch here the next day. Each of us ate a different sandwich all were delicious. I would give more stars if possible. read more

Was hoping for an great home cooked breakfast but found it mediocre at best. Potatoes looked as if cooked hours before and mildly reheated before serving. Quiche was OK but bland. "Rye" toast was a dark brown spongy approximation of what someone who's never had rye bread thinks it is. It's inexpensive, but I'd pay more if they cut their menu in half and really concentrated on a few really excellent dishes instead. read more

We were headed into big rapids for the day, and did a quick yelp search... so glad we did. The red white and blue waffles were the best we've ever had, and the biscuits and gravy were so good I had to take a moment and just savor them. I love this kind of brunch place: independent local with down-to-earth service and good basic breakfast food. Hilarious/charming interior full of little tchotchkes and fun things to look at while waiting. Went in around 11 for brunch on a Sat, and got the last empty table for two. The servers were slammed, so we had to wait a few min for menus; but things moved right along after that and we were done in 40 min, easily. A tiny bit noisy, but not too overwhelming. Portion sized are solid, excellent quality of bread, and omelettes FULL of yumminess. If I lived in the area, I'd be a regular! :) P.S. It's a nice place. I love the food and service. They have lots of menu choices. It's a good place to try for brunch.

Took more than 45 minutes to get our food. Pathetic for a breakfast diner. Took more than 10 minutes to even get a menu. Cook is slow. Even service is slow and pathetic. Tables are barely wiped clean, service staff is disorganized and kept asking customers if they are already seen yet they are not given drinks. Food is decent but definitely not worth the wait and pathetic service. This is exactly why good cooks should not have a restaurant if you are not able to scale or organize your kitchen. Even after follow up and told food is at the counter, it still took 5 minutes to get it on our table. There are 2 servers and 4 tables. Maybe if the other server would stop flirting with one table, we could have slight improvement but I seriously doubt it. We are not coming back. Do not come here! There are better food and better service in the area. read more

This place is a ways off the freeway exit, on the east side of town. It is definitely worth the detour if you are traveling to/from Northern Michigan! My omelet was delicious. But - my husband ordered the make your own breakfast sandwich. It was served like a Benedict without the sauce and the eggs were SO perfectly cooked! For the last several months this place was amazing. Everything on the menu was served hot and fresh by the friendliest of staff. Recently though, things have gone down hill quickly. With escalating food prices, portion size has suffered. Things like Hollandaise sauce. Half the amount on an eggs Benedict which was slightly less than standard to begin with. The syrup for pancakes served in the normal container with half the needed amount just to name a couple things. And it's been consistent. The smiling friendly faces of the wait staff have moved to greener pastures. We've twice had the opportunity to hear the owner/ cook address the staff and prospective staff in a most condescending manner. No one should be spoke down to like that. Today was our last visit. Breakfast was served cold and when brought to the attention of our server Pam, it was quickly dismissed. Probably due to an unwanted confrontation with the owner and her wrath. read more

Large menu, large portions and helpful staff. Very small, seat yourself dining. We both had breakfast and ordered our bacon extra crispy. It was our favorite part of the meal. Sausage biscuits and gravy were good, but not as good as my moms. Lol. Looks like this is a well- loved local institution and we were eager to try it. In the 5 minutes we stood in the otherwise empty waiting area, the staff passed us by about 10 times without even lifting their eyes to acknowledge we were there.
