I knew of Square records because it is around some of my favorite restaurants. Highland Square is loaded with great restaurants and also the movie theater I proposed to my wife at. All my "friends" have moved away, I hate my job and stupid LeTraitor is back. Never been more tempted to pack it up and leave in my life. As a lifelong resident of northeast Ohio, I've had my fill. Everything cool from my 20's is gone. Good college radio, the Ghoul, and oh yeah, the Quonset Huts in Parma and Akron. But there survives a shred of that former coolness. And it sits unassumingly on Cleveland road in Canton. Dog and I set out down the highway in search of adventure. Ended up in Alliance/Mount Union. Uhhhhh, not great. But I remembered that the last standing Quonset(maybe the original, not sure) was nearby. I went to the Parma spot ALOT. It had everything. Records, incense, posters, clothes, curios and yeah pipes. It always felt like a California hippie refuge from the gruesome rust coated hell of Cleveland for me. Sure, there were other headshops. But they all seemed fake. This one had such an authentic west coast 60's vibe to it. Needless to say, when it closed I was pretty bummed man. I was happiest in life in my early 20's. No bills, friends all around, adventures to be had. In my mid to late 30's I see nothing but boredom and isolation. Being in a space that even remotely recaptured that magical time was heartwarming. I felt 20 again. Even without my patented long hair. I snatched up loads of incense, an eastern trinket, and a last minute purchase, a Q hut sticker. Didn't go downstairs to browse the pipes as I don't partake. Weird, huh? It struck me funny how half the country is legalizing pot, but in Ohio you have to be 18 to look at glass. We've always been five steps behind the rest of the universe. Hence my desire to pack up and leave. Whatever. It was a sight for sore eyes. The records are gone, but that's ok. Though I did buy some of my most killer vinyl at the old shops. It was a little piece of Haight Ashbury that renewed my old carefree self. Thank you Quonset employees and owner for keeping that amazing 60's spirit alive some 50 years after the fact. I love you.

Wide selection of CD's, but all the way in the back, a fairly impressive selection of vinyl. They had exactly what I was looking for. I had a little sticker shock as the first Vinyl LP was priced at $22 (the one next to the one that I wanted...it happened to come out first). But then the one that I was looking for was only $3. What a deal. Staff was friendly (greeting on the way in), and got me checked out and on my way in no time.

The Bomb Shelter has a fair selection of trunks. I found exactly what I had in mind. I took a chance and asked for a discount. 10 or 15% was given and they loaded the trunk into my vehicle. I actually bought so much at SGE that they effectively killed a first time visit I'd planned to a another toy shop nearby. Think of it like a museum of sorts, but one where you actually have the privilege to own the pieces. Be respectful. All of those bad reviews sound like people who don't understand that... Anyway...I ordered online so I'm reviewing the online experience--which was great. Packaging must have been good because my dad got his G.I. Joe in perfect condition. The owner, or the owner's son, emailed me personally immediately after I ordered to simply check to make sure the address was correct because my address and the shipping address were different--so they obviously genuinely care about their items and offering quality service to customers. And my dad, as a child, actually had the exact G.I. Joe I bought for him. He said when he opened the package it immediately unlocked childhood memories he'd forgotten about. He said it was the best birthday gift he'd gotten. And nothing beats getting your dad a good birthday gift. (Except maybe buying your parents a house, but, I'm not quite there yet.) You can't trust buying a G.I. Joe from just anyone/anywhere. This place has a G.I. Joe specialist who inspects the figures before they're available for sale. That means you're not getting some counterfeit replica pieces sold to you like you might elsewhere. I would absolutely order again from this place, and hope I have the opportunity to. I'll be checking back every now and then for future G.I. Joes that my dad doesn't have yet.

Every aisle is filled with treasures from your childhood: toys you had, toys you wanted but couldn't afford, and even some you totally forgot existed until they were right there in front of you. I told a friend recently that if I had a million dollars to spend only on toys, I'd still leave that store with a wishlist. It's that packed with incredible finds. They have toys dating all the way back to the 1920s, through the golden eras of the '50s, '60s, '70s, and into the '80s and '90s--the stuff we now lovingly call "vintage" or "retro." From Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Star Wars to Marvel Comics, classic board games, and massive collectible statues, the selection is wild. I'm doing a couple of photo dumps just to show people how deep the nostalgia runs there. It's more than a store--it's an experience. If you're within driving distance, I highly recommend making a day of it. Explore the beautiful town of Canal Fulton, grab some food, and then spend time walking through this amazing shop.
