There was a frame that fell off the shelf because of how it was poorly displayed. Even though it wasn't my fault, I paid full price for the item's breakage ( without being asked to) and left ample money for the glass repair so there should not have been the attitude. I even bought a small item. This didn't placate her. She was more than rude about an accident that was clearly the vendors fault for poor merchandising and display practices. Maybe she was having a bad day, but I would not ever frequent the shop again because of this persons open hostility. She needs anger management classes.

The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop is one of my regular thrift store stops. Located in a…read morestrip of shops on W. Market you will find one of the nicest upscale thrift stores. The shop is medium sized, nowhere near some of the big stores, but what you will find is really high quality items at a great price. The Discovery Shop has a nice if not huge selection of clothes, they have just recently expanded the men's area in the back to allow for more variety. Most of the items are high end and usually very current. Where the Discovery Shop really shines is the selection of art, decor and interesting items. It seems that they get more upscale donations then most thrift stores, plus they are raising money for a great cause. Other items include books, media, all kinds of kitchenware, plates, glasses and jewelry. Prices are reasonable, what makes it even better is that they have a 50% discount color every week and the last weekend of each month the entire store is 50% off. Over the years I have found some really nice sports coats and a number of carved wood items at the Discovery Shop. Well worth a stop to check out if you are looking for some great items at good prices, plus it is great to support the American Cancer Society. I also want to shout out the volunteers at the Discovery Shop, they are always friendly and helpful and the store is well set up, organized and attractive.

In its current state, Flower Child is walking into a retro basement that has decades of treasure! LAYOUT/INVENTORY: The store has two levels with multiple rooms of treasure. Both levels have similar merchandise - home goods, kitchen tools, some furniture, abundance of accessories, clothing, vinyls, and some interesting international decor. Just when you think you ran out of rooms, there are more rooms of treasure to browse. I especially loved the basement. Every room is a treasure hunt! If you wear petite sizes, this is a treasure trove of vintage clothing. You'll find tees, dresses, sweaters, and pants. The clothing is casual and functional. Check out all the clothing rooms on the main level and basement. VALUE: The discounts on merchandise of 70% is a great value. However, the initial prices are quite high considering the quality. Some of the clothing and items are very well loved. I don't see myself paying full prices for the items to be extremely honest. SERVICE: The staff was very nice to customers during checkout. There was a lot of excitement about the upcoming store move. They staff was always very busy. Personally, I wanted to ask about the pricing for a folk pin I was eyeing. There was no one to ask so I eventually gave up. I'm sure the service is more attentive during the regular days. PARKING: I was surprised to find a pretty large parking lot at the back of the building considering the location is in Lakewood. Amazing if you're carrying home a lot of treasure. I would recommend Flower Child to guests who enjoy digging for treasure. You definitely need maybe an hour to focus on each room without getting overwhelmed.
