The whole time in the store (20 min.) no employee greeted me or asked if needed help.

The young kid who's an apprentice cobler is very nice and helpful and knowledgeable. I love local…read moremom and pop places so don't take this as something against them. The problem is the old timer who owns and runs the joint, he's a jackass on another level. I don't care how knowledgeable you are, if you are such an ass with an even worse tone of voice and condescending as all hell people won't want to do business with you. Tried to tell me that though I was diagnosed with flat feet when I was born that it's my boots that are the problem and caused me to have flat feet. Also irked me that the old timer dang near hit me in the face with his cigarette when he came out to assist. I was calm and polite even with him cursing and being an ass and telling me I'm full of shit and have no idea what I'm talking about with a diagnosis I've had my entire life. When the old timer finally hangs up his tools I'd definitely be willing to give it another shot with the young kid or if the old timer is willing to apologize for being an ass and conduct business like an adult.

If I could post a zero star rating, I would and here's why…read more.. I stopped by this afternoon to return a pair of safety toe shoes that were too small. When I told him I did not want to try on a different size, he started screaming, and cursing me out! saying "you screwed me"! And it just got worse from there. Even with a store full of customers, he continued yelling and cursing. Prior to me buying the pair I was returning, I had asked him to reline the back of the heel of my less than six months old, $250 work shoes. The way he "repaired" them, caused my heel to slip horribly at work the next day. (he glued in a piece of leather, without bothering to fix the padding on the top inside of the heel that keeps your heel from moving up and down) Because I walk anywhere from 10 to 15 miles on concrete per day, I developed horrible blisters. When I took them back in, he got rather obstinate, complaining that I really need to get a new pair of shoes instead of trying to fix these (again... They were less than six months old Red Wings!). His second "repair" was actually a peel and stick pad for the underside of a shoe's tongue. While this worked SLIGHTLY better, it still had problems. By now I could barely walk at work. Over the weekend, after a friend recommended speaking to Ann (who has 30 years in the business) at Lucky shoes in Canton. She was fantastic! Turns out, Bill had recommended the wrong. size. I needed a full size bigger and. 4 E width. You know, I've been in Shoemaker's a few times over the years and on more than one occasion I heard him berate or get nasty with another customer. I honestly thought at the time that it was him joking with customers that he knew. Turns out he's just a cranky old man.
