They have sharp floors that are grated. We stayed while it rained and made sure we were on the 3rd floor for coverage, but it doesn't matter. The rain comes through, we just wanted to sit and have coffee. There's a light you cannot turn off, and the heating/cooling system is on every balcony so even if you turn tryouts off you hear everyone else's. You might as well have no balcony. But it's still worth the visit. Such a great hotel but the balcony's are awful. And no privacy, can see the people above you and below you. It's honestly just for show. Other than that I'd stay again and not get a balcony room. I think it's to deter smoking but it's not even cozy, it's sharp, and not private. Great view but there was a wedding so saw everyone on the balconies and can hear and see everyone, they need to be designed to be functional not for show.

We wanted to sit in the lobby, but there was trash at the fireplace. The lobby was unclean ie the couch, table, fireplace area. There was no coffee or cream in our room. It took 40 minutes for them to come up. They brought cream and sugar and no coffee. We called the front desk twice to rectify this issue. There was a phone in the room that did not work and no phone cord, which is a huge safety issue. There was yelling and slamming doors at 6am outside of our room in the hallway. There was also no body soap in the shower, when we showered this morning. We will not be returning, as this was another disappointing stay.

The day of the maitre'd and wait staff were very attentive and offered quick service. They really made sure everyone was having a good time. The food here is fantastic. We got so many compliments from our guests about how much they enjoyed their dinners, especially the prime rib. My husband and I are vegetarian and they made an eggplant parm specifically for us that wasn't on the guest menu! You can tell that they make most things in house. They made the wedding cake in house as well and it was one of the best cakes I've ever had. All the facilities were clean and their cocktails were delicious. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept. The reception halls attach to an outdoor patio which allowed our guests to have a great mix of indoor/outdoor time. We could not be more pleased with our choice to get married at Birchwood!

I was on the 3rd floor and had easy access with the stairs and elevator. Lots of different entrances to get into the hotel but all key card accessible only so it's safe. Room was smaller but clean. Had a king bed with a large sofa. The TV doesn't really face the bed which was weird. Bathroom was clean and shower was clean. Water tasted weird out of the sink when brushing teeth. Im not sure my air worked I wanted to put it on but the buttons didn't work, but it was a comfortable temp without. It was a tad loud, you can hear trains and cars on route 10. Things echo on the hallway as they do in most hotels. I could hear my neighbor cough through the walls. I only stayed two nights so nothing was cleaned from housekeeping but I didn't really need it. Overall in a pinch this was perfect for what I needed.

Long story short, they gave a stranger a…read morekey card to our room at 3am but when he couldn't get in because the manual lock was done from the inside, a different male employee proceeded to try and pick the lock without announcing himself or knocking or calling the room. Thankfully I woke up to the sound when it was happening and confronted the guy before he could get in. SO all of that happens, I'm rightfully shaken up and running on a couple hours of sleep a few hours later, not a single employee is to be found when we go to check out other than a cashier for the market in the lobby. Cool, no big deal. I get the email and number of the person directly above the one that tried entering our room because I want an explanation. Since then, this manager Maegan Gundry will not call me back, will not answer my email, will not give me any sort of apology or explanation as to why and how this happened. Mistakes happen but when you intentionally ignore a major breach of safety and privacy that leads me to believe there are more sinister reasons behind why I'm not being given an explanation. I'm not one to jump to conclusions but given the way this manager has dealt with this (or rather lack of) tells me that this probably wasn't an accident in the first place. Stay far far away from this hotel if you need a place in the area.

My husband and I love to stay there and eat at Rod's for our special occasions. The renovation is great! The rooms are so nice now. Modern and very comfy! We most recently stayed in a king suite and it was big and lovely! So much nicer than the kinda icky bridal suite we stayed in 8 years ago But overall, this, like rod's, is still a pretty traditional place. If you don't like that, you won't like it! And if you're not staying for business or wedding, maybe not your gig. Still, I love it. Nice, friendly, train in the back, close to Morristown and Madison both lovely towns. And I love Rod's and the red dog, both fun old timely places for some food or a drink.

They keep a good mix of 80s, 90s, new, sing alongs, etc. The security guys were nice. Bar didn't take too long, definitely a wait but I've had way worse. Bathroom was a little gamey but it was later in the night and the St. Patty's day crowd was out so I'm sure it's usually much nicer. Definitely give this place a shot. So fun!
