Poor service. Poor quality of food. Won't be back ever. I ordered a Bloody Mary and it was good except foe the dried up lime wedge. Lots of people in the bar "patio" were smoking. Not sure if that's allowed under CA laws. Ladies restroom toilet looks like it has never been cleaned, ever! read more

5 stars for cold inexpensive beer on tap! Patio view of the mountains. Fun crowd, regulars I'm sure! Friendly service. Some food but we just needed to wet our whistle. We'll be back when we are in the area! read more

The Red Frog - Historic sign - Pizza Near Me - Colfax, California

After a long hot hike on Steven's Trail, we found the Red Frog. I now have a new concept of heaven, paradise, nirvana, elysian fields, whatever. It goes like this... I enter a low-lit building where I'm greeted by staff. I walk out to the smoke-friendly back bar area which is a shaded outdoor open-air patio, and I'm greeted with a cool breeze and a fantastic view of the foothills. The back patio is decorated with a multitude of nautical, sealife, mermaid, and frog decor... there's even fish and whales and frogs in the treetops nearby. None of the barstools match but I like that kitschy charm- like every patron brought their own from home. There's even an old school arcade table. An angel named Linda takes my order with a smile and promptly brings my water and my coconut margarita, and even leaves a pitcher of water because she knows how thristy I am. Shortly after my drinks, my cheeseburger and fries arrive... the burger is deliciously greasy and I happily lick my hands clean. A fantastic venue filled with fantastic people, great drinks & food at good prices, and OH! Did I mention the overhead soundtrack to all this? Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga, Tom Petty, Guns N Roses, Merle Haggard, Eminem, Percy Sledge, Gnarls Barkley and Pink Floyd, IN that order. Yep, it's heaven! :) read more

A fun locals place with great hamburgers and pizza. The food inexpensive and good. We each had a Red Frog burger and loved it. But you can get that in a lot of places. What you don't always get and they excel here at is is very genuinely friendly service. Actually, everyone in the place was friendly and it was packed on this Friday night. There is plenty of outside deck seating which has a canyon view to die for! We sat and enjoyed our cold beer and burger under the heater and watched the train below roll by. read more

Epic back patio view accompanied by sticky tables and the stench of vomit, grandma perfume, camel piss, and broken dreams. If you can stomach the chain smoking regs, the cascading panoramic pines will tantalize your optics into another mediocre libation. read more

We were seated in the back which was a elevated porch overlooking nature. This is a local spot that seems like it might be a fun spot if we came during the time music was playing. A real rural down to earth spot where you can kick back and grab some suds. I had the double cheeseburger and the chicken. The burger was really done and was okay. The chicken were drummettes and little sections of the wings. Not a bad place to unwind. read more

any bad reviews are CRAY-Zee. what do you expect? great dive bar. great atmosphere. reasonable prices. if you want high falutin food and decor, this ain't the place. if you want decent grub, COLD beer, good service, nice people - this is the place! read more

I get that it's a dive bar but this place is disappointing and next level disgusting. The inside of the place is completely closed off which is odd. The only place to go is a covered patio. In the covered patio you are completely surrounded by people smoking cigarettes. I'm not exaggerating, there were 10 people smoking cigarettes around me at once. I could barely breathe even though it was open air. The drinks were decent and the bartender was sweet so that's the only reason they get two stars. I would never trust food from here and will definitely not be coming back. Sad because it is in a cool place and has a great view of the canyon so if they cared like, at all... they could probably make an awesome high class bar or restaurant. But clearly class is not something they are striving for. read more

Was told they had good food. Stopped in and yes a very local bar which is not a problem but hamburgers were served before french fries then burgers were raw in the middle and when fries finally came they were soggy and I mean soggy not sure if they forgot to put them down when the order was out in or why the issue was. I just recommend if you stop here tell them we'll done and that you you would like your fries with your burger. read more

We got a bunch of pizzas here and they are excellent. Very fun looking bar with a gorgeous view, haven't had the chance to explore that side of it yet, but from what I could see it was poppin' Great energy and again the pizza is read more

I've been frequenting this place for almost as long as I've lived in Auburn now, over 15 years. Sure it's annoying as heck that they allow smokers on the back deck, especially when that's the main draw to the place - it has an amazing view and you can sit outside. That being said, the service is hit or miss. Linda is by far the only one there who always has my back and considers me a regular, but they have people come and go all the time. The food used to be really good, and now, much like the service has been hit or miss but you can't beat the prices. I go cause I love the cheap and coldest damn beer you can find anywhere, the view and the people are always eclectic and make for something as interesting and fun as the crazy decor. read more

I enjoyed the open deck/Cabo style bar. My friend pointed out that the back of the bar overlooks Cape Horn. The train goes by once in awhile. The American River Valley is among the attraction. .It's very picturesque IIt's the normal all around hamburger and cold beer place. but the atmosphere more than makes up for whatever you think it might be lacking. read more

This place is pretty much only worth going to for the view. The food is mediocre pub food. The veggie burgers tasted like ass. No attempt to even spice them. You know... they are to be cooked just like meat- salt, pepper, etc. Room temperature fries. Staff sort of forgets about you. I guess this place is a place that you go for drinks, a view, and conversation. Skip the food. read more

Fantastic! Stopped for lunch, the burgers were just plain good, nothing fancy but done right. The fries! Holy crap! Amazing, they're done in a pizza oven with a hint of garlic, not greasy and so good. The fries alone will bring me back. The waitress was a hoot too! Roadside bar at its best! read more

If I could get by with zero stars I would. But I'll give the only star to the girl behind the bar. She was nice and efficient. I've had better frozen burger patties from Costco and consuming my food next to at least 6 smokers made me want hurl (and that's coming from a former smoker). We were outside and I was choking on smoke. Views are great but not worth the price, food quality, or air quality. read more

The food is very reasonably priced. We have only had pizza there, but go somewhat regularly. I have a service dog, Most every time I go there, I am treated badly by the staff, I decide I am never going again, and I end up needing a late meal and they are often the only place in town that stays open late enough for me to grab a bite. So tonight we had dinner there and everything was fine except the bar needs refinishing and feels gummy. But as we were about to leave, one of the staff came and started to tell me that I could not bring my dog the next time. Because it has a rotating staff, I don't often see the same crew twice and we last ate there less than two months ago. So the blonde curly haired waitress/bartender was not someone I had seen before. Because I have been given a hard time a number of times, I was quickly getting irritated. The waitress pointed out that she was just the messenger, and I immediately calmed down and apologized. But she was having none of my apology. I offered her my card so she could have the owner call me, and she blew me off, and walked away very angry, throwing glass bottles or glasses so hard that we were surprised they didn't break. To the owner: Unless you have managed to circumvent the federal laws that all the other owners of restaurants in the United States must conform to, you must serve us, after we have informed you that he is a service animal. My dog has accompanied me for 6 years, and after years you are still training your employees wrongly. You need to treat your customers better. Having a service dog is enough of a challenge to not have to be treated badly consistently. read more

The mango margarita is a reason to stop, and enjoy the truly majestic view of theAmerican River Canyon, from the outdoor patio. Folks smoke cigarettes out there. I'm OK with that, just be warned. Good food, crispy fries, high-quality beef hamburgers, good pizza. The owner takes pride in running a nice, clean place, it shows. read more

Very nice view out the back deck. Good prices. I've come here off and on for a number of years the service is more often than not pretty sketchy. Along with some of the people sitting at the bar look like they live there chain smoking. Today went there after a hike and was basically ignored for 15 minutes saw the bartender signal a very sketchy guy at the bar and they left to go outside to one of the picnic tables and looked like some sort of transaction taking place. She Just left the whole place unattended. No acknowledgement to us who were waiting or other people who were arriving So we left. Other than that it's great. read more

The view is beautiful and it's a cool place, have had some good experiences in the past but went yesterday and the bartender was very rude, sat there for almost 10 min and she didn't even acknowledge us. The Red Frog rocks and I am amazed that I have never 1) heard of it before or 2) been there before yesterday's visit. After making the trek from the Bay Area up to the Sierras several times in the past two weeks, and passing the Red Frog several times due to the I-80 detour, we decided to stop. The Red Frog looks big from the outside, but it is actually quite intimate once you go inside. The views here are incredible. Stunning, actually. I was lucky enough to be here during the day and see the view in the daytime. I am sure it is equally stunning in the winter when there is snow visible. We sat on the outside patio where there were misters to make us comfortable in the summer heat. The patio is decorated with lamp posts, a plastic shark (life size), a mermaid and many, many frogs all over the place. It really is kitschy, but it is fabulous because it is. Drinks were reasonable and it made the afternoon a lot less stressful. I didn't try the food, but I am sure that next time I am in the area I will. I will FOR SURE be back to enjoy the Red Frog. read more

Stopped in Red Frog for a cold beer on way to GValley. Only one star because location is superior, the views are incredible. But this hole needs John Taffer! Seriously! They definatly need a Bar Rescue!,,The kitchen wasn't functioning, only served 7-11 hot dogs. Maybe cuz of COVID. People SMOKE there which is cool but not the way the patio is situated. Saw two female customers flicking their ashes over the railing. Timber dry all around, duhh quickly gave them ashtray from our table and "high tailed" it out of there. The Red Frog is such a cool place. It is so awesome that every single time that I am back in the area I make a point to come and have a very reasonably priced delicious cheeseburger. The Red Frog overlooks the beautiful Sierra foothills with a view that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the area at an eatery/bar. The nightlife at the Frog is pretty cool too...it is VERY casual and a lot of open minded people are attracted to it. This place is great! read more

I'm giving this place 5 stars for a beautiful view, funky decor, jukebox, outside bar and the best simple old school cheeseburger and fries. After holding an open house at Scotts Flat my friend and I were famished. We saw the reviews on Yelp and popped in and sat at the bar. Crystal Moon was our bartender, very nice & patient. The menu is basic & limited but my burger & fries were yummy and the view amazing. Add to that everyone was friendly. I played some old school country on the juke box & I will definitely be back. My kind of whole in the wall. read more

This establishment is really great -- loved the food, service and prices, not to mention the view which is out of this world. The only reason why I give four stars out of five was because of how a customer issue was handled by their staff. One very loud and obnoxious customer was railing on women, using very derogatory and offensive language. I was there and, as a woman, felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. I cried when I left because of how dirty and unsafe I felt even being around him, and their staff did nothing. Someone ultimately stood up to him and the staff thanked that brave man, but I wish the staff themselves would have told someone so rude and obnoxious to leave. read more

I had stopped here to get lunch while on a road trip. The owner started arguing me because I had my service dog with me. She did what she is taught, laid right next to me and I even was respectful and sat outside with her. He told me I could either leave my dog outside or I had to leave because he did not want someone to get bit or trip on her leash (but she was in the corner laying under the bench I was sitting on) I tried to educate him on service dog, since he clearly didn't know much, and he just kept saying about how he knows a lot of fake service dogs. read more

I loved this place! Came for the first time with my boyfriend while in town. The customer service from bartenders was great! The view from the deck was amazing. It's a little 'hole in the wall' that looks run down and dirty (lol) but thats what gives it character. It's a great vibe for this location. Only downside is the website listed Friday & Saturday as having karaoke but there was none on Saturday (which is what I originally was wanting to do by coming here) Had a great time anyways Also- I asked for a Tom Collins, bartender didn't know what that was so he googled lol Didn't taste like it was suppose to but hey, it got the job done! read more

Stopped in on a Thursday night. Visiting from out of the area. First impression was that it looked like a cool bar. The decor is fun with tons of little random things to look at. We were lucky enough to be in the presence of some of the most entertaining people I've come across in a bar. We just sat back on the beautiful outside patio portion of the bar, sipped our beers and watched. P.S. Great prices! I'm looking forward to visiting again. read more

This watering hole is a way of life up here in the foothills. You can always find your friends here and the bartenders are beautiful.
