Kickstands up people, this place is a biker bar with style. The owner has a real affection for extravagant decor and I love it. So much to see and decor ranges from frogs, dogs and sea creatures and yet it works. Located in the low mountain area of Colfax and a bit off HWY 80 so there are more locals then travelers and I think that's the way they like it. They keep the food simple burgers and pizza - that's it. For drinks full bar and they pour a good strong drink. For those who like that sort of drink will find this the kind of drink they like. Main drink I saw being poured was Peach schnapps, Crown and Redbull. Now for the food, we ordered the large combination pizza. It was better than expected and we only got through half of it and took the other half home for lunch the next day. By the way the the bathrooms are sparkling clean and very unique. Have been driving past for 30 + years, finally decided its time. It no longer is just a biker bar. We went late afternoon to grab a beer and burger. May be eight or so people sitting at bar. They have three bars. Two inside (very dark) and one outside on deck overlooking Cape Horn and Americcan River. We were the onlookers peopele ordering food. We both order cheeseburger and a fry to share. The fries were crispy and hot. Burger was undercooked and bun was soggy by the time i was able to eat 1/3 of it. I can tell this is a place everyone comes for the drinks only. I wish i could give it better a better review but just such a dissapointment. I love the facelift they gave their exterior a few years back but would reallly love to see the inside scrubed clean and updated. outside seating as well. well we've been but their will be no need for a return visit..... read more

This place is a trip! There are all sorts of crazy things hanging on the walls and ceiling. We stopped off to have a beer on the patio, which overlooks a forest with a bunch of crazy things to see out there as well. Definitely worth a visit. read more

After a walk at the Weimar Institute, we decided to check out The Red Frog near Rollins Lake--and I'm so glad we did. Seriously, this place is a total hidden gem. The staff was so nice--I really wish I remembered the bartender's name, because she was amazing. She said she'd worked there for a long time, and honestly, I couldn't give her enough compliments. She was fun, friendly, super welcoming, and just had great energy. Her customer service was top-tier and totally added to the whole vibe. The bar itself is wild in the best way. There's a giant shark hanging from the ceiling, red fire hydrant-style light fixtures, planes, and a plethora of tchotchkes--just so many random, awesome things to look at. It's quirky, fun, and actually cozy in the best way. You can tell it has a story. We sat outside on the patio and the view is unreal. You're up on this hill looking out over the forest and mountains, there's old vintage trucks and a boat just chillin' on the lawn, and even a plane hidden on the side yard. It's a uniquely magical little spot tucked in the mountains. And the food? It's hot dogs, hamburgers and fries, but it's perfect. They don't overdo it--it's simple, good, and exactly what you want while soaking in the vibe. Honestly, if you're anywhere near Colfax or Rollins Lake, stop here. This place is always packed and my husband swears they have the best tacos in town or anywhere for that matter. Me? Ugh! Well having a drink is fine if you are outside but I can't stand the amount of cigarette smoke so I won't ever be going back. The karaoke is fun to watch but not enough for me to return. read more

I've been wanting to check this bar out for almost a year. I was able to enjoy a few hours there yesterday and it was a beautiful day out of the fog in Sacramento. The decor in this place is amazing. It isn't just the red frogs, with some green ones in the mix, but there are so many other creatures. Service was quick and friendly from the day bartender. My glass of wine was generous and I would have stayed longer and had more drinks but being alone I didn't have a designated driver. I was disappointed I didn't order some food. The burgers looked and smelled yummy! I did soak up the spectacular view from the deck. After the stress of the holidays this was a peaceful, much needed reset. It's a cozy, quirky place for the locals and travelers passing through. This isn't even touching on the passion seating room with pool tables and more creatures! You need to see it yourself. Basically a 2 item menu and we remember how bad the pizza was so we tried a burger. You have to purchase fries seperate. Glad i didnt as the burger gave us no reason to come back. read more

No service dogs allowed. Is that legal? Won't ever patron here; they weren't nice about it either. Don't want to sit on their barely standing back deck anyway or spend my money somewhere that treats people poorly. If I could do zero stars, I would. The Red Frog is a townie dive bar classic. Food is a solid B. Smoking allowed in the bar. Frozen sugary drinks hit on a hot day, lots of other variety of cheap drinks too. Great views out the back. We have been coming here for years and always had to sit outside at the bar as the inside was closed. Parking is right out front. Now the inside is open and glad it is as it was a cold day. Seating is limited so we sat at the bar. Since we were at the bar service was excellent, friendly bartender, beer was cold, cheeseburgers and fries were what we expected. This is a "Dive Bar" and it delivers. We are looking forward to warm weather so we can sit outside as the view is outstanding. read more

I walked in to this bar hoping to grab a bite to eat but the Bartender was VERY unwelcoming looking me up and down and informed me the kichen was closed. She didn't offer me a drink or anything insted,she pretty much told me to hit the road and directed me to another restaurant which was in the opposite direction of where I was going. I sat at the bar, waiting for my husband. i felt virtually invisible, because the bartender never asked me if I wanted anything. She was too busy talking to a friend who was a guest. When my husband arrived, we moved to the deck area. We waited and still received no service. The bartender never aporoached us; she was having a great time socializing, so my husband went inside and got me a drink. I finished my drink and we left. Craig P said turn off at the Colfax exit. Just off highway 174 is this rustic bar over looking a timber filled valley. As we pulled in around 2:30 on a Friday afternoon, we all rolled our eyes. The parking lot was full of motorcycles. What was Craig thinking taking us girls to a biker bar ? But walk straight thru the bar to the back where there's a large back porch bar. (Full of bikers, just enjoying the view and beer like us). The view is spectacular. Miles of trees. Stone outcroppings. Blue skies. Red frogs hanging from trees. And timed right you can see a train ride the mountain side. Service was quick and with a smile. The menu prices amused us more than the bikers. See picture below. $1.87 for corn dog. $6.05 for cheeseburger. Cute. Two cheeseburgers, mountain of fries, wings, corn dog and five adult beverages had a check of $45 for four people. We stopped here to have lunch as we've been by a time or two and always wanted to check it out. Very disappointed in the food. My husband and brother-in-law had the double burger, which looked like my homemade burger, nothing fancy, and they said they were good. My sister and I ordered the hot dog with the works ( no jalapeño), and they were awful. I make way better ones at home. The other thing is we shared a "mountain of fries" which were maybe a cup and a half, which were mostly burnt and I think they were either air fried or cooked in the oven. Tasteless. My husband did have a Bloody Mary and it had a bit too much hot sauce but not too bad. If you go, it has great stuff to look at and would probably be good in the summer for drinks (maybe their pizza is better?). Overall, not wasting $60 on a horrible lunch experience again. read more

I've been going to the Red Frog for years. The view is outstanding, and the bartender is a nice lady that has been there as long as I have been going there. I actually came here riding back from street vibrations and I was so disappointed. My girl and I hadn't eaten and just wanted a quick hot dog, as we were going to continue on to eat dinner later. The service was so poor we were there for well over an hour and only got one drink. The guy cooking was doing one order at a time, when almost everyone appeared to be ordering hot dogs or burgers. He would cook and than walk out and deliver than go back and cook again. After almost walking out the hot dogs finally came. They were super hot on the outside, and ice cold in the middle. After two bites, we both were done. I complained and said they were inedible. I was super upset that they than charged me for the ice hot dogs. Its a friggin hot dog, how do you mess that up? After being a patron for many years, I will NEVER order food from The Red Frog again. read more

A few friends decided to go on a motorcycle ride in the foothills and wanted to stop for lunch at The Red Frog. I had never been there and went on yelp to see the menu and reviews. There were horrible reviews regarding service dogs. I have a small service dog, well trained and not a bother, but the reviews said they did not allow service dogs. I called and asked the woman who answered the phone if service dogs were allowed. I even mentioned the bad reviews and that I did not want to make a fuss. If it was going to be a problem I would go somewhere else. She said that they were trying to improve the service dog issue and that it should not be a problem. She also said that we could sit on the patio. From the photos I assumed the patio was in the back. When we arrived and entered I was holding my service dog in my arms. Two different staff members started YELLING at me "no dogs, no dogs." I stated that I had called the day before and was told the service dog would be allowed to enter. I said I wanted to let my friends know that I was told to leave. They continued to yell at me. I went out to the front fenced area without any shade and no one came out to take an order or bring any water etc. We decided it was not going to work out and we left. It was obvious that they had no interest in keeping out business. In a previous review the owner had stated that he did not want to get sued because a service dog might bite another patron. Service dogs do not bite, they do their jobs. How would the owner like to be sued for discrimination and not following the ADA rules? Do they have handicapped parking? are their bathrooms ADA accessible? This could get very expensive. read more

This place is one of a kind. Who would have thought that just off of I-80, you would find one of the greatest dive bars in America. Beers are ice cold. Chili cheese dog was primo. But the best thing about this place are the views! The seating is porch like. Open to the outside but a roof over your head. Solid draft selection. Cheap beers. Cheep food. Very friendly staff. Sat outside for a little bit for the scenery(which is awesome) but the smoke started bugging us. Inside we ate our food and watched the baseball playoffs. I hit up the jukebox.
