The Red Caboose Cafe is a genuine local institution, offering consistently satisfying comfort food in a genuinely charming and family-friendly atmosphere. The four-star rating is for the generous portions, classic menu, and overall cozy vibe.I deduct one star because the food can occasionally be a bit heavy, and service can slow down noticeably during peak periods. In summary: A great, charming spot for a hearty meal and excellent value.

Good food, I ordered the blue burger with sweet potato fries. It was a nice spot for some family chit chat and the coffee was really good. My grandmother and dad had breakfast and it looked so good. Service was fast and our server was very kind. No issues on a Mother's Day remembering my Mama. Nice atmosphere get there early good food means big crowds.

The train theme is cool and there is a train track with a model train on it, hanging from the ceiling. I'm not sure if it currently works, but it did look cool. I ordered the Machaca breakfast plate with flour tortillas. If you've never had Machaca, it's tender shredded beef sautéed with peppers, onions, and mixed with eggs. Then you take that delicious mixture put it in a tortilla and enjoy! I had mine made with egg whites this time around and it was delicious. I really enjoyed the Serano peppers they used instead of bell peppers. If Serrano peppers are too hot for you can ask them to sub for bell peppers or just remove them all together. This plate came with a side of potatoes that were good, but a little on the salty side. I tried my wife's biscuits and gravy, and it was flavorless for me, but with a little S&P my wife enjoyed. Our server (Nellie?) was awesome! She was a super attentive and checked on us regularly. Making sure our waters and coffee were always full. The vibe here is OK, but it is a little red if you catch my drift. I'm not really a fan of eating breakfast while Fox News is blasting in the background. This won't affect my review rating, but if I can offer suggestion, leave the TVs on and the volume off. Maybe play some music instead of the news commentary? Just a thought.

Well all you beautiful folks I finally made the ride to par take in some truly great homemade food fare. Now what makes this place phenomenal ? Let me tell you. It's Melinda the waitress who makes you feel truly special the second that you step through the door. This fantastic person makes you feel like you're home. This establishment did an awesome job finding folks like Melinda to take care of those who visit this food place. The interior is like its name railroad oriented, even with a running train moving over head while you dine and enjoy some great food. If you enjoy fresh homemade food fare to include homemade pies come give this place a try. You all know how I feel about local businesses so do yourself a favor and stop by. SYOY

The wait was reasonable especially considering it was Father's Day. The service was top tier... our drinks barely went down before they were filled again. The food was really good. The black angus chicken fried steak was so much better than the traditional country fried steak. Would definitely return again. The restaurant is decorated so cutely and had a train running around. Train decor throughout. Very clean restaurant.

    Corned beef hash

Response to owner. Eggs over medium: Over-medium: Flipped and cooked longer on both sides, so the yolk is barely runny, but still jammy. What you serviced was over easy. Medium is to hardly have any runny yolk. Thanks for letting me know that the corned beef hash is not freshly prepared by Red Caboose. My assumption is that if offered (by a restaurant), there's actually corned beef lot mush mystery meat. And you see a golden TOP layer of hashbrown that fell apart. Not browned inside to "set". Thank you for acknowledging my concern. But I will not come back or recommend an establishment that offers canned corned beef hash and do not understand the difference between over easy, medium or hard eggs. I am not trying to be mean, but a private message would've been better rather responding defensively with excuses - it only makes matters worse.

My avocado burger was missing avocado

We stopped coming here a while back after what happened on two occasions: The first time, I asked for a coffee with hazelnut creamer, the waitress said she'd bring me some creamer shortly. We waited over 20 min for the creamer when we noticed she had left it at the kitchen counter. My boyfriend had to go pick it up himself and bring it to our table, but by then, my coffee had already gone cold. When the waitress finally came back to check on us, I asked for another coffee and she took another long time to bring it to our table. She also seemed annoyed that I had asked for another coffee. We gave them another chance and went back a few weekends after. This time I ordered an avocado burger. When my plate came out, I literally had to put the burger together. All the veggies were just strewn all over the plate. And of course, they forgot to add the avocado. When I told the waitress I was missing the avocado she simply brought me some slices in a small bowl. Same attitude as the previous waitress from the coffee incident. Like, sorry, but it's not my fault you guys are always understaffed that you can't provide decent service. Just save yourself the headaches and disappointments and go to Blossom Trail instead.

Stopped in for dinner, as I was staying at an Airbnb in the area. The place was pretty busy, for a Thursday night. The restaurant was very bright and clean, and everybody was very friendly. I decided to have the pot roast. It came with a bowl of beef, barley soup, mashed potatoes with gravy, and green beans with bacon. The soup was delicious! A good amount of beef, the broth was delicious, and there was a lot of barley which I like. As has happened before,, I tore into it so fast I didn't get a picture. The pot roast was mostly successful. The pot roast itself was flavorful, and tender enough that I could cut it with a fork. The carrots were tender, the gravy was very good, and I really enjoyed the green beans with bacon. The reason I'm taking away a star, is because while the potatoes were delicious, they were only warm to cool at best. I don't know if they were sitting while they were preparing the rest of the meal. Also, on the pot roast, they didn't cook the onions all the way through. They tasted raw, and I didn't care for that. . The roll was also good, but it was a little bit tough. Other than those small things, the meal was still very good. The prices were a bit on the high-end, but reasonable for what I got. Also, they were nice enough to give a military/veterans discount. If I was in the area again, I would stop by. Thank you.

Finally went to The Red Caboose on academy, still cute with the train going around and around on the tracks!! Same friendly owner and staff was very kind and helpful!! Our breakfast was top notch...hot, flavorful and very large size omelets, pancakes etc. They kept the coffee coming too

Had lunch here while working in the area as it was recommended by the locals. We really appreciated that they served beer since most diners don't, even if it wasn't particularly well priced. Not that it was expensive per se, it was just as expensive as any hipster bar, but lacked any atmosphere. The food was decent and the prices were just ok. The service was great though. Overall, it did its job providing sustenance, but at over $60 after tip for lunch for 2, it won't be a place I'll return any time soon. Again, average food that did its job, just not really worth the splurge of that cost ($60 is 3 hours of a fast food worker's life and nearly 4 hours of a minimum wage worker's life). If the food was higher quality or the prices were lower, it would easily be a place to go back to.

What helps this pizza taste great is the style of their brick oven. It's the only way to have a really good pizza cooked. I had to go to Urgent Care twice and had X-rays to ensure I would not require surgery. They never called me back, not a care in the world to offer to pay for my medical bills. Story below ... I would never order from here again. I ate 3 slices then bit into something hard. I removed a small piece of metal with one end that looked like a sharp fish hook or something. I panicked and realized that I may have eaten other objects from the other slices I had already eaten. I went to urgent care right away to see if anything showed up on the xray and to my absolute horror it did. In my upper intestine there was a xray of the same sharp hook like object. The doctor told me the risks of intestinal bleeding if it got caught on the lining of my intestines and that it may require surgery to get it out, and if that was required it would be very difficult to find it, risk of infection, it was a nightmare. So for 3 days I had to wait and have this on my conscious. I went back to get a xray and thank God nothing showed up, so it must have passed through me. The doctor told me he was surprised it passed without getting stuck because of the fish hook appearance of the metal object. So I called BC's and spoke with the manager they said it was a family operated business and they would call me. They never did. I never tried to sue them or anything, I just wanted an apology and the owners didn't even have the decency to apologize and get to the bottom of why this was in my pizza. I was scared that this could have been in others' pizza too and not just mine. What if a little kid ate the pizza? How reckless and cruel to not even give the customer a phone call. I ended up filing a report with the county health department and they did an inspection and found multiple violations, which included not keeping the prep area clean and free of debris and no food safety manager on duty. I still have a picture of what was in my pizza. If you saw it you would never eat at a place like this ever again.

I got an all meat Chicago, Detroit combo and a Hawaiian. The Chicago stole the show with plenty of meat, a heavy cheese and the topping of sauce was perfect. The sauce wasn't too sweet and seemed like fresh tomatoes, not the fake sugary sauce that you might buy in bulk. I love a good sauce but I am not a tomato lover so this was surprising. The other pizzas were just as good but we need to talk about the dough. The dough was almost perfect with a crisp bite, but not dry or rubbery. We waited 15 minutes before our server even acknowledged our table. He admitted the wait was "ridiculous" and blamed it on the restaurant being busy, but that doesn't excuse ignoring guests for that long. We ordered the Mafaldine pasta, the Sprouting Cauliflower appetizer to share, a Coke, and a cocktail. The Sprouting Cauliflower appetizer was terrible--bland, unappetizing, and not worth ordering. The pasta was good, but it wasn't enough to make up for the abysmal service. Our Coke didn't arrive until about 20 minutes later, we were never given plates for the appetizer, and our server never once checked on us to see if we needed anything or how our meal was. After asking for to-go boxes, he disappeared yet again. Eventually, we gave up waiting and walked to the front station ourselves to ask for a bag and our check because it was obvious we had been forgotten. As soon as he saw us heading to the front, he rushed over as though he thought we were trying to leave without paying. He immediately printed the check and stood there waiting for payment. When I told him I wanted to review the bill first, he looked genuinely surprised. After I paid, I explained that we had a very poor experience. His only response was that he "tried his best." If that was truly his best, then Annesso has a serious service problem. We watched him provide attentive service to his other tables while ours was consistently ignored from start to finish. No customer should have to chase down their server for basic service, wait excessive amounts of time for drinks, eat a shared appetizer without plates, or get up and request their own check because they've been abandoned. The food alone is not enough to justify returning. Between the terrible appetizer and the unacceptable service, we will never be back. There are far too many restaurants that appreciate their customers and provide the level of service Annesso clearly does not. We will absolutely be sharing our experience with friends and family and cannot recommend this restaurant.
