We were staying in an airbnb nearby and we had seen in the reviews that someone recommended this place, so we gave it a try for Sunday brunch. It was fantastic! Sat at the bar, and enjoyed some AWESOME machaca (my fave) and incredible hash browns (my husband got the potatoes and said they were amazing as well.) Service was attentive and quick, and we even spoke to the owner - very nice man. My only complaint is I wish they had bottomless mimosas. Ha read more

I have always enjoyed breakfast here. The owner and wait staff are extremely friendly and always want to make sure you are happy. As some of the previous comments stated I have been in when they have been short staffed. I know it can be a challenge being a mom and pop operation when you have employees call off without warning. The two times I've been in they were overly apologetic and understood service didn't meet expectations. The food here is very consistent and is good. It's not mom's home cooking, but in my opinion is better than the big restaurant chains. The waitresses always have a smile and are very friendly. This is a great place to have a relaxing breakfast. No it's not fast, but if you want that go to a drive thru. We are usually in and out in 20 to 25 minutes. read more

I didn't like my food at all I ordered a scrambled egg and it was not scrambled but cooks flat and chopped up. I asked for a side of fruit it was not edible the fruit looked like it came out of a frozen bag. My fruit was wet and mushy. Only thing that was good was my sourdough bread and coffee. read more

Went for lunch/brunch last weekend, not knowing if they'd be serving. Decided to take the drive out there from west Clovis anyway, and wasn't disappointed. They have a pleasant outdoor dining room available, and my husband was able to get his chicken & waffle, while I enjoyed a very fresh & tasty southwest salad. Not too many people there when we came , but several came during our stay. Tables set up 6' apart and we felt welcomed and well served by our sassy & fun waitress. We continue to love this place and appreciate being able to still go there while we live thru this difficult time. Thanks Red Caboose!! read more

This is a tasty family friendly place to get classic food. The decor is awesome including a ceiling mounted train track that is very very cool and the kids love it. The food is not like a chain store it's more like if a good cook in your family made you a traditional homemade meal at home. read more

If your heading to the lake, you really need to get a good breakfast at the Red Caboose. To go or sit down. You'll won't regret your decision at all. Cheap prices but excellent "grub". It was busy. We waited fifteen minutes to be seated by the owner. We were seated in the room to the right side of the building, there were 3 tables being used we were the fourth table, someone left shortly after and people were seated after us.We ordered our drinks and we had a little trouble communicating with the lady, she was very nice, I started talking to her in Spanish. The two waitresses were in the room and stared at us as I was speaking in Spanish, ordering our drinks. We waited 20 minutes for our waitress but the people that came in after us had their order taken already, we asked the waitress who was dressed in a sloppy tank top and a dirty bra to please get our she came in and didn't even acknowledge that she had passed by us several times. During the whole time waiting the owner man came into the room looking angry and plain miserable and not once acknowledged that we didn't have any food while everyone in there were eating.She deliberately did not want to serve us because I'm mexican and spoke Spanish. This wasn't the first time I felt we were singled out because of myself being mexican and my husband white. I think the waitresses thought we were friends or something to the nice lady who brought our drinks. Needless to say, that is the last time we will go there. read more

Amazing place! I felt very welcomed as soon as I walked in the door. The owner of the place was there and he kept checking in to make sure everything was good! Felt like I was walking into my grandparents house. Very warm and comfortable! You can tell many of the people were regulars. We will definitely be back! After seeing some good reviews about this restaurant, I thought I would give it a try today. Got there about 1:30 and even though they were rather busy, I waited just a few minutes and was seated at the counter. I sat there a few minutes without being attended to when two other customers were seated next to me at the counter. They were obviously regulars at this restaurant since, within seconds, they were greeted by not one, but two servers, who asked how they were doing and if they would like something to drink. These same two servers did not even acknowledge that I was there so I promptly stood up and walked out of the restaurant. I don't know about you, but I hate to be treated like a tourist when I go into a dining establishment while regulars get immediate attention. It should simply be a matter of first come, first served! I certainly cannot comment on their food as I was not there long enough to find out about it. But their service left a lot to be desired and did not make a very good impression on me. I guess that's what I deserve for not being a regular and I probably will never become one. read more

This is a nice little gem if you're willing to drive out that far. Or perhaps you're going to wild waters and you're in the area? Whatever brings you to this FAR side of town, try this place out. It's a pretty simple menu and the food is decent. I had the machaca and it was tasty. I really liked the country potatoes. They had a nice crisp on the outside of them. This place was only mediocre in my opinion. Quality of food is better than Denny's but not by much. We both ordered different omelets: The veggies were cooked well-- not too soggy and not too raw. Omelette was good and the country potatoes as a side was also good. It had a mixture of onions and bell peppers. Pancakes were good-- fluffy Biscuit and gravy lacked flavor. The biscuits were hard and barely warm while the gravy was just a soupy mess. It had the small town feel and seemed like a bunch of regulars come in which was nice. The place is pretty good.. The negative is the biscuits and gravy are marginal and served luke warm.. The omelette was hot the hash browns warm.. So out of 3 folks in our party only my omelette was hot.. All other dishes were marginal and all plates were microwaved.. We get pizza here every Friday, they don't deliver but it's worth picking up. It's a thin crust pizza with the perfect amount of sauce. We have also had breakfast and dinner here and everything on the menu is great and fresh. I love that we can support a locally owned business. My family (my 98 y/o father, my wife, and me) would meet our kids and their families Saturday or Sunday mornings for breakfast over the years and we've always been met with a smile and great service. My regular place down the street, the blossom trail cafe, was overflowing with customers so we decided to come here. The wait was really long, but that's not really the restaurant's fault. Compared the the blossom trail cafe, the food is ok. Definitely a 3/5. The breakfast burrito is mediocre and the eggs Benedict is pretty good. Wait service was friendly. I met at the red caboose Café with a girlfriend a few months ago. When I looked at the outside it didn't look like anything really special, but once you get inside and you smell and see the food and of course taste it you will be in love! It is down-home cooking and they give you plenty of it! I recommend it for breakfast for sure! That is what I was there for. My girlfriend and I visited for a long time because we hadn't seen each other in a very long time. The waitresses were very nice and kept our coffee filled. This is literally one of the cutest restaurants we have ever been to! My family and I were loving every second. The aesthetic appeal of the old school trains just makes for a fantastic time. We came in and it was about 1pm and the waitress had indicated that the rush had just left. I looked around and it was so clean it looked they just opened! We got to choose our seat next to the window. My kids immediately saw the trains on the tracks overhead and wanted to know more about them. The waitress saw them looking and came over and said she would turn them on just for them. They were so happy at that! There was just so much to look at inside the restaurant that by the time we had ordered and gotten our food it felt like we had only been there 10 minutes. They have a huge selection of food to choose from however they stop serving breakfast at like 2 I believe. The kids were planning on getting a burger but when the waitress said they were well known for their pizzas the kids instantly changed their mind. The kids get a dessert with their meal and they really wanted a root beer float. I had asked the lady if I could get a glass of root beer so we can put their ice cream in and make one our selves and she came out with 2 already made and put in togo cups! You can't beat that! The food was delicious as well! We cannot wait to go back! Such a cute countryside drive to the place as well. read more

I love the machaca here and my hash browns were perfectly cooked- well done on both sides! I always think I'll branch out, but haven't yet. Others in the party enjoyed the 3 meat omelette, breakfast sandwich, and fish tacos. I would definitely order the fish tacos if I came here for lunch! All are ample portions, and the service was very good. Coffee right away (a must), refills several times without having to ask, checking to see if we needed anything else. Horrible experience here on Father's Day. I decided to try something new with my husband and kids for his special day and I wish I had never wasted my money here. From the moment we walked in the owner/manager was rude to us and refused to sit us where there were available tables. When we asked to move over the table slightly to get out of the sun she was like"No it stays there." I am sure if it had not been Father's Day and I was trying to do something nice, my husband would have walked out. He tried the Mexican Eggs Benedict and I tried the fish tacos. The fish was so greasy and the whole thing was less than appealing. His MEB was not very tasty and the sauce was overpowering. For a family of 6 this meal set us back over 80 dollars, which added to the blow. The worst part was there were 2 hard workers on the patio and other wait staff that was inside were completely rude to these ladies and yelling at them in front of customers because they couldn't handle their tables themselves. I made sure to ask if they split tips because I left a tip for them because they were working hard and were as polite as they could be in the situation. Overall we will never come back and I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Place is very busy, so obviously must be pretty good food. We had to eat outside which was hot and muggy but I thought if the food is good then it is worth sitting outside. The service was friendly. #1 problem I had with this place, BUY A FILTER FOR YOUR WATER. Just because I order a water doesn't mean I am cheap. I honestly want to taste the food and use water to enhance the different taste from food to food without blending all the flavors together. The Food was great. Food was plentiful and tasty. Menu options were unique - saw a lot of "Train wrecks" served- pretty much any breakfast food option all fried up in a pan!! It was a popular stop. There was a bit of a wait to be seated, and a bit of a wait for the food, but we were accommodated with water, drinks and attention by host and server. I love the feeling as you walk in; they always make you feel like family! My grandpa introduced me to this place and I am so happy he did. They are very family oriented and have amazing food. We attempted to go here this morning after hearing good things about it. There were a few groups outside waiting, I walked in and put my name down for a a table of four. I was told it would be about a 15 minute wait (which was more than fair). There were people that arrived after us that were seated before us, I asked about how long and was told we were next. We walked in and he said he made a mistake and would be about another 15 (at this point we had already waited 45 minutes). There were also open tables (one table had five chairs, again we were only four), but were told he needed those for larger parties. We left and took our business elsewhere. read more

I have never had a bad meal there and the milkshakes can be shared, but I stopped in about a month ago hungry and wanting a fried egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich to eat on the road. The first gal wrote it up and told me it was going to be close to $17. I asked her to refigure the bill, it is just a sandwich. Another girl came over and her total was real close to $14 for a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, no sides, no beverages. I had to pass, I cant pay that for a $6 sandwich. I went to the gas station next door and bought a fresh hot bacon, egg, cheese,and potato burrito for $5. That was the only issue I have ever had there, the food is good.
