I'm not sure why this place is on Americas best restaurants. The appetizers were good however everything after that was not worth our time. We ordered ribeye steak and it had no flavor what's so ever. We also ordered a steak sandwich and the bread was super soggy. They brought the food at different times after half our group had already ate. The lavender drink is good, would I come back maybe not. We were up in Wrightwood for a night and just so happened upon this restaurant. You cannot go wrong with eating here. The filet mignon and a half rack of ribs is what we ate. Decided to give this restaurant another chance and we were let down again. The price of the food is extremely overpriced and the presentation of the food was sloppy. For example I ordered a wedge salad, the five chopped tomatoes pieces were underneath my brown lettuce and they completely forgot the bacon pieces. It seemed rushed and not worth it. My daughter ordered wings and fries, they were okay but needed to be cooked more. All I all we ordered a bunch of sides and it came out to 80$$$. I'm not going to be returning. I'm from Oceanside but I was in the area fishing and stopped here on my way home. AMAZINg guest service. Spoke with Jessica the bartender who was so kind and attentive and who clearly had regulars come back just to see her, and then had a lovely chat with the kitchen manager who was enjoying a beer at the bar. He was so passionate and sincere and it was evident from the food I ate. Pulled pork sandwich with slaw was The best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. Perfect balance of saucy and slaw-y ;) the veggies of the night being cinnamon carrots were delicious and the side house salad was a generous portion. GREAT prices and good value. We came in on Thursday. I didn't get the bartenders name but she was awesome. It was our first time there so I had a lot of questions about the different night events they have, food and drinks. She answered all of them without being annoyed. The food and drinks were all good. We ordered the chili dip, steak and chicken fried steak. They had karaoke going on, which was very entertaining. Our local Kiwanis International held out District Council Meeting here at the restaurant. They accommodated close to 100 of us and their service and food was amazing. As a local, I really wanted this place to be great. First, the good. Decor was cute, servers were good and whoever was on the grill knows what he/she is doing. I had the rib eye and ordered it rare (sometimes a tough call for restaurants) and it was perfectly cooked, as was my wife's medium New York. Baked potato was big and good. Clam chowder was "meh" as were the other sides. My complaint is with the quality of the meat. I expect really good meat at a "steak house", like aged prime. I doubt that our steaks were either. Next time we'll do the work ourselves when we want steak. A pity as I was hoping for a place to splurge for "date night". Unrelated: Sometimes Costco has prime rib cap steaks. Really pricey but phenomenal steaks. read more

Tried this place when it first opened and we were less then thrilled with the experience, but decided to give it another try tonight...and we won't be back. Our server told us he was the only one working and had only been there for 2 weeks. On a Friday night?? I feel like that's just asking for poor service. We ordered fried okra and he asked us where did you see that? We don't have that. He didn't know the menu-wasn't sure what was even offered on it or if the restaurant had that item. My husband ordered a "jacked up milkshake" we were told they were out of chocolate syrup and couldn't make it, so our daughter also had to pick something else-no chocolate milk. I ordered an iced tea that I never received but it was on our bill. Our older daughter ordered the Trigger Fingers with a side salad- the menu says smothered in buffalo sauce- she received three dry chicken strips and maybe 5 fries, no salad. Our younger daughter got the kids cheese burger- no veggie with it at all a dry bun with meat and cheese. However when the bill came everything was on there correctly so apparently the kitchen doesn't want to bother looking at the ticket to make the correct food. The server did a great job with what he was set up with, he had a great attitude and super nice- but honestly kinda set up to fail working alone on a Friday night, not really any knowledge of the menu/restaurant. We were bummed hoping that with the time this place had gotten better but no luck, guess we will stick with Mama Maria's, Ricks Cafe and going to Hesperia. read more

Heard all the hype about a new restaurant in Phelan, as well as some of the grand-opening glitches... so we decided to check things out for ourselves. Stopped in for breakfast this morning and the place was full of families and loud with conversations. The waitresses were sporting flannel shirts and denim jeans; complimenting the rustic feel of the restaurant. Love the small town feel of this place... felt like we were one of the family. I had The Rustler: Biscuits and Gravy and my wife had the Cali Sunrise Skillet... and of course we had a double shot Bloody Mary and Irish Coffee for our refreshments. Everything was fantastic. Even ran into one of the owners that stopped by to say hi. Loved everything about the experience... so much so we made reservations for dinner so we could try out their new steakhouse menu that everyone's been raving about. Definitely worth stopping in and trying out... owners are local to Phelan for nearly 40-years, so we want to support them as a fellow Phelan community member. Hope other Phelanites give them their support as well, as they work through all their start-up glitches and get this new business off the ground. Best of luck... so far so good!! read more

I stopped by tonight around 8pm when I walked in there was a handful of people at the bar. I stood there for about 1-2 mins and one of the customers asked me to have a seat:) I asked him if he knew if the kitchen was still open he said he wasn't sure and asked the owners son . The kitchen was closed but they still took my order I had the ribeye and loaded potato The food is very very good this is my 2nd time eating there the 1st was takeout. The thing i appreciated more than the good meal was how awesome the people that run the establishment treated me! I'll be back and I highly recommend checking them out if you are in the area! Joanna the server was very friendly. She was a little busy but we didn't mind the conversation time. When my steak came out she asked me to check my steak. It was over done but I didn't mind. She insisted on making a new steak to perfection and it was. The owner came by and asked how everything was. He was pleased that Joanna corrected my over cooked steak. The dessert was delicious. Hello folks. My wife and I visited The Ranch for a date night, the second time. Her rib-eye was excellent. I ordered two bowls of chili along with the 20 oz Porterhouse. Chili was excellent and the 20 oz Porterhouse was very disappointing. Extremely grainy throughout which made it very challenging for the steak knife. And the seven thumb chunks of meat I was able to extract weren't tender at all. However, our waitress, Kelly, provided excellent customer service. read more

The steak was hands down the best ... medium well is how we ordered our 20oz steak and that came with two sides and of course we tried the appetizers and we got to meet new friendly faces (Ms Rachel ) she was our server for the evening . We definitely will be going back . I'm giving Four stars because we didn't get our shrimp I didn't want to make a big deal about it ... but definitely will be back to try breakfast and the lunch menu soon. read more

My wife and I decided to try this place after I read about it in a fb foodies group. We both ended up with food poisoning....coulda been the onion rings we shared but most likely the baked beans. The Steak sandwich I got was "ok"at best, my wife liked the chicken she got but didn't finish as she started feeling sick before she finished. The food poisoning hit me after I got home. Went to the Ranch never again. food was average. had to go to bar to order food and drinks, they told us they will not come to our table. From what I saw too busy in the thier phones. Ordered a burger it was dry. so I stood in line at the bar to get mayo. Music too loud to hear. Overall no thanks if I want to stand in line to order food get napkins get ketchup etc I will go someplace else that does not charge me restaurant prices. read more

Steakhouse? Sizzler was better. We were hoping our second visit would be better than oit lunch.. We want to support local business but the kitchen staff needs work/help. The staff was great but the food was awful, the drinks were strong so that alone gets two stars. Wont be back my wife and I didnt even finish our steaks. They had a chemical taste to them. Not sure if the grill was dirty or maybe just cleaned. Brought a doggie bag home literally for the dog. For 90 dollars the quality should be better. read more

I ordered a gallows burger with mushrooms and garlic fries. The waitress asked how I wanted my burger cooked. I ask for medium. The burger I received had no mushrooms and was charred hard and black. My fries were not fully cooked and hard on the inside. In the past the orders were slow but the food had been good. I won't be returning. read more

Update: We have now had dinner and breakfast there. I would have to say this definitely is not a "steakhouse" for dinner. We had the ribeye and filet mignon , his ribeye was "ok" My filet came burnt on the outside , like CHAR, crunchy, crispy , black even tasted burnt . Zero flavor . I ordered it medium rare, and it came more rare. I got a baked potato, and a vegetable of the night was broccoli. It came cold, COLD like they put it in a pan and heated it up for a couple minutes and then let it sit till everything else was done. ( we were the fourth table in there at around 6 PM. ) The baked potato was the only thing good ....( totally over priced for what you get) fast forward too breakfast ! Amazing and I was so excited to see the same waitress was there from Arturo's. They need to stick to breakfast and extend their breakfast hours, especially on the weekend, families, have events, church, etc. only having breakfast till 1130 on the weekend I think would turn some away from dining here. We would only come back for breakfast. I don't like that they come around and ask how your food is etc. because let's be honest , like myself I'm not gonna confront an owner their lack of flavor, food and taste. I don't go to lunch, or dinner to have a debate. Our server for dinner was very sweet and nice and like I said above, we were happy to see our Arturo's waitress for breakfast.
