House made noodles? Fantastic! I walked by the restaurant without even knowing! Its location is tucked away and it looks like a bar at first until you walk deeper into the space and discover a small Japanese themed seating area that makes you wonder if you were still in Ireland. The ceilings are low. Japanese lanterns decorate the entrance to the kitchen. While we waited for our ramen, our waitress dropped off a surprise amuse. (appetizers on the house). It was lox on top of a dollop of Irish cream cheese on a slice of cucumber and garnished with fresh dill. It was light and refreshing. I ordered the spicy salmon and it was a hot remedy to calm my traveling stomach jitters. Looking back at my experience, I wish I had more vegetables and that the seasoned egg was a little less "seasoned" (since it's already in a salty broth, the salty egg killed my taste buds with sodium). I had to drink lots of water to wash everything down. My husband and I also ordered a bottle of Merlot to celebrate our first night in Dublin and unfortunately had to remind three staff members that we were still waiting for our bottle after all our food arrived. It's ok. I know this stuff happens. The service was welcoming and the wait staff was very nice. I would recommend this to future yelpers for sure. read more

The place has beautiful intimate ambience with multiple floors and rooms, plus the soft jazz house music in the background really helps with the digestion lol. Service was great, fast order. Every ramen order comes with a small bite of appetizer. We got the Ebi Katsu (aka butterfly shrimp with light batter and sweet garlic sauce)- pretty good, a bit oily. Tonkatsu Red -spicy- ramen noodle is nice and chewy, has a good texture to it. The chachu pork was made perfectly! The broth is quite on the sweet side and that can get a bit overpowering midway through the dish. Spicy salmon ramen -- light broth, lightly seared salmon. In itself would have been a good dish, but we were sharing the two ramen and the tonkatsu's strong broth definitely beat this one. Hands down the best ramen in Dublin. I get the regular tonkotsu ramen and am always full - it comes with four slices of chashu pork so you can't really complain. It's no where comparable to ramen you'd get in Japan, California, London (just some of the other places I've had ramen) but it definitely beats out all other ramen places in Dublin. The karaage (fried marinated chicken) is also nice - it's a bit on the saltier side but the chicken is super tender. But beware - if you order this in addition to your ramen, you're going to be super full. They always greet you with a different free appetizer/amuse bouche, on the house. I've had the cucumber salad once, and the tempura shrimp another time. Both were yum! read more

Today I was wandering around and decided to stop in at the Ramen Bar for dinner. It was a bit cold out and ramen seemed like the perfect thing to have. Ramen is one of those dishes that you don't realize how good it can be until you have good ramen. Some people might be thinking "I can buy 18c packs of ramen from Lidl, why would I go out to eat ramen?" Because this ramen is so much better than the cheap broke-ass ramen you get at the grocery store. I got a green tea to drink and order a bowl of the Tonkotsu white ramen, which has noodles, grilled pork, onions, hard boiled egg, and nori all in a delicious broth. You have the option of ordering extra topping if you want for a fee (except garlic which is free), but I thought I'd try the ramen as is. Before the ramen even came I was given a complimentary shrimp tempura appetizer. The batter was light and delicious, just like good tempura should be. Onto the ramen. The noodles were amazing and apparently are made in house with a noodle machine from Kagawa, so that's pretty cool. They're delicious and hold up in the broth (they don't fall apart), which is how good ramen should be. The broth is a bit salty, savoury, and creamy, but there isn't cream in it. I don't know how they do it, but it's delicious. My favourite part of the ramen is the egg, and it was fantastic. On the table are extra condiments like ramen sauce, and soy sauce. A bowl of ramen is pretty big, and I was pretty full by the time I finished. If you finish your noodles and want more for your broth though that is an option (for a few Euros). I haven't had good ramen like this since I was in Tokyo earlier this year. Except here in Dublin the menu was in English, so I didn't have to do the old "point at something on the menu and hope for the best" like I did in Tokyo. Although at this restaurant I think that method would still guarantee you some delicious food. My ramen and green tea came to €12. A great price for a great bowl. I grabbed a loyalty card because I'll be back. read more

Totally have Yelp to thank for discovering this fantastic new spot! I came here last week having read all the great reviews, and am totally in agreement with everyone else, it's awesome! The Ramen Bar is situated at the back of Kokoro on South William Street. You walk through Kokoro and at the back you'll spot the neon red sign which tells you you've found it! It's dark and cosy, nicely decorated & comfortable. The waitress & waiter who seated and served us were super nice and friendly, they really made us feel welcome & looked after. The main menu is, as you'd imagine, different varieties of ramen. I went for the Spicy Miso Vegetable option which was honestly one of the best meals I've had out in ages! It was huge and full of flavour. I opted to add fresh garlic to my dish (free) and was delighted to be brought a little bowl of four cloves & a garlic crusher with my dish! There was literally so much food here that both myself & my dining buddy couldn't finish our meals. We were stuffed! To top it all off we were given a very tasty appetizer (free) and also a tiny sample of their dessert (also free!!) which was sticky toffee apple pudding, it was to die for. If we weren't fit to burst after the ramen we definitely would have been going for a full portion of that dessert. I'm already planning my next visit! :) read more

I really enjoyed coming here. They homemake their ramen noodles and you can tell the care they take in each and every dish. I have been here maybe 5 times already, always ordering the spicy tonkatsu ramen bowl with seasoned egg. You can choose to what degree of spicy was you want, and I usually go with mild which is not spicy at all, really. It is delicious and provides more than enough food for you. With each bowl you get a complimentary appetizer, which switches daily, I believe. It is not much food, but I nice touch as you await the ramen to come out. This is the best ramen place I've come across in Dublin, and the service is pretty good too. Quick and always asking if everything is alright. read more

This was certainly an authentic experience. Most of the waitresses seemed to be Japanese and there were a few steady tables of Japanese students as well while we ate lunch there on a Sunday afternoon. My husband and I both went for the ramen - he the tonkatsu red and I the spicy salmon. The broth for my spicy salmon was super salty but the beautifully cooked piece of salmon on top of my ramen was to die for. It was soft, melt in your mouth high quality fish for sure. They served it with a layer of crispy skin on top. I also like how you can customize with additional toppings if you'd like. It was a nice treat. I didn't finish my broth though cause it was so salty but I find that in general, I think that of authentic Japanese ramen places so it's not out of the norm for me to have that opinion but that is however why I am giving it a 4 star instead of 5. I tasted my husbands food and his tended to have more spice, he opted for hot vs medium, which masked the saltiness. Overall, I'd definitely come back again. I'm hoping my experience was a one-off for this place. I'm often skeptical of Asian food in cities that have a low Asian population, but I try to be open-minded. The reviews looked really positive, so I decided to give it a shot. One reviewer said she lived in Japan and she kept coming back to this restaurant, so I felt that was a solid recommendation. But for me, the service and food were both extremely subpar. I came here just before 12:30pm on a Friday and it was already a bit busy. There were no tables available but there was 1 counter seat left near the kitchen. Since it was just me and it was my lunch break, I was happy to sit there and not wait for a table. The waitress then forgot about me for the next 10 minutes and every other staff member just walked by obliviously even though I tried to get their attention. I finally caught the waitress' eye, who then said, "oh yeah!" and made a gesture that indicated she had completely forgotten I was there. I asked a couple questions about the menu but she didn't know the answers. Both times she attempted to read the menu to find the answers, which I of course had read but still had questions, hence the reason I asked her. I then asked about the Steamed Bun with Spicy Sauce (part of their lunch special). I sort of had an idea but wanted to confirm and at first she said it was a dumpling, but then she went to the kitchen to ask and told me it was a sandwich filled with meat. I didn't dare ask her what kind of meat because I knew she wouldn't know. I ended up ordering the Tonkotsu Butter Miso Ramen and the Steamed Bun with Spicy Sauce. The meat in the steamed bun was salty and very tough to chew, and the bun was cold. As for the ramen, I typically order a miso-based broth when I go out for ramen, so I'm not sure if it's the mixture of the tonkotsu broth, but this was the saltiest ramen I have ever had in my entire life - not only the broth, but also the egg. (Though to be fair, the eggs that come with ramen are marinated, and I probably find them to be salty 70% of the time.) Also - the seaweed smell was overpowering; the meat, choi-sum, and egg were cold, and while I'm sure there weren't any mushrooms, there was a mushroomy taste. I could've dealt with all the latter points if it weren't so salty overall. Honestly the cold stuff is fine once you mix it in with the hot broth; it was just unexpected. I probably ate at most 25% of the ramen before my stomach couldn't handle the bowl of sodium any longer. Again, hoping this was a one-off; though I can't risk giving it a second chance myself. read more

One of the best ramen places we have tried, comparable to Ippudo in NYC. We could tell the difference in taste of the noodles and the broth. The noodles are made in house. Broth isn't too salty and the pork slices are grilled just right. They offer complimentary appetizers (changes daily) which i thought was a nice touch. Every single time I'm in Dublin for a few days I make it my mission to visit here. At the back of a Kokoro is this gorgeous restaurant. My favourite ramen to get is garlic lovers, as not a big seafood fan or beef eater, it's absolutely perfect. You get a big bowl for what you pay and I never tend to finish it all. Food is always hot and hits the spot. Service is always amazing, water refills without having to ask, checking on my meal, super friendly. Ok, so I m serious about my ramen. I don't just say it because i ve watched 'the ramen girl' and have suddenly decided to be an expert. I mean I tasted ramen in every major city I ever went. On my opinion, there are 3 things you should judge ramen by: 1) broth 2) eggs 3) pork. I m gonna concentrate on the eggs, cause u can judge the pork and broth on your own (and there is nothing worse than having over cooked chashu pork). The proper 'serving' of an egg is crucial, as I ve had boiled, fermented, and everything in between served w my ramen. If you get a hard boiled white egg in your ramen you should walk away shaking your head in disappointment. When cooked properly an egg should have absorbed the soy colour and marinade taste (Accomplished by 24-48 hrs of prior marination). The yolk should still be runny, but not under done. Every time I was served 'improper' eggs, I presumed laziness or lack of knowledge, and in neither of these situations, you should be cooking ramen, if you fail to nail down the basics of cooking eggs. Now since this is Dublin, Ireland I decided to go for tonkotsu butter misu, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The eggs were cooked properly, chashu pork was juicy and full of flavour, the noodles - fresh, and the broth, oh the broth tasted like Irish butter!!!! Wow, let's get straight to it! I got the Diablo Ramen as I love spicy food and that's exactly what I got, perfect balance of spice whilst managing to maintain every other flavor that comes with it. Portion size was big and generous but given the price it was about right. Plenty of noodles, beautiful egg and the Pork was charred on the outside to give a beautiful bite and crunchy texture. 5 of us went and everyone loved their bowl whether it was pork or vegetarian it was all top notch. I cannot recommend The Ramen Bar highly enough. My travel companion and I were only in Dublin for 36 hours and ate there twice. Yes, it really is that good. Between our two trips, we tried the tonkotsu ramen, spicy miso ramen, and salmon miso ramen. The bowl sizes are generous and each is flavored to perfection, though the classic tonkotsu was my personal favorite. We also made sure to try the "kae-dama" option, aka where you get a second serving of fresh noodles to add to your broth after you finish your first. Probably didn't need that much ramen, but it was fun nonetheless. Bonus: the chef makes an off-menu appetizer every day that is given to your table as a complementary dish! One of the days we were there, it was incredible fried pork. If you're in Dublin and enjoy ramen, this restaurant is not to be missed. read more

They brought free appetizers that were slightly cold fried sweet potatoes. When we asked if they should be warm, the server said yes and he would get us a fresh batch, but my friend had taken a bite of one of them and put it back on the plate. When he brought out our "fresh" batch, it was obvious he had just microwaved the oil heavy fried sweet potatoes because my friends piece with the bite in it was still there. Top notch for ramen, hands down. I absolutely love this place - the portion sizes are great, it's a nice ambience in the back (not too busy or hectic!) and the price is really reasonable. I've tried most of the ramen on the menu so far and none of it has disappointed - they also have the kae dama option which is essentially to get an extra portion of noodles if you finish your first portion (but still have a good bit of broth left), and although I've not YET been quite ravenous enough to need this it's great to know that the option is there! Anyway - the dishes are delicious and they also give a free appetizer with your meal, which is typically quite nice as well (can be small but again, it's free)! It's always changing too so you never know what it will be. The staff are great too, very attentive but not overbearing. The ramen typically comes out in good time (typically about 10-15 minutes) and is always well presented too which really makes the experience! My one complaint is that they don't really have a good spicy additive in case you want to kick things up a notch - and their spiciest broths aren't real flamethrowers or anything so if you like your heat you may come away a bit disappointed. However, the broth itself is so tasty that I've never been too put out by this as it's typically gone pretty quickly anyway! read more
