    Somaek - beer and soju
    Luke H.

A block away from my hotel, got a few drinks my last night in Dublin. Fresh kimchi isn't really fresh, at least a couple of weeks old but it was still good and what I'm used to. The octopus was much better, but small portion size. Limited Korean beer selection, but tried out a new one called Gangnam which tasted like a lager. It was okay with soju when I made my somaek. Originally ordered four Hite, guess they were out of it already on a Friday night around 6:30 pm. Overall, not bad.

Food was okay. I guess this place is a pub at night. There was an unpleasant smell as soon as we walked in. But we went in and ate there anyways.

Very busy restaurant, which I thought was due to the caliber of the cuisine. In hindsight, it was probably because it's rare to find Korean food in Dublin and people are bottlenecked here. Seated conveniently in the corner of the restaurant it took quite some time to get a server, and when I finally flagged one down to ask for a beer I was informed to just go straight to the bar for it. Great. Once I finally got my Guinness, I shot for the Dakgangjeong, Seafood Pancake, and House Kimchi. After another round of drinks and wearing patience, I got my food. The Seafood Pancake was a very large and semi-crispy disk with a lot of minced shrimp and octopus, but very forward with the spring onions. (Disclaimer: I don't see seafood pancake on the menu, and I can't remember if it was a special or my friend specifically ordered it). As for the Dakgangjeong it was lightly spicy fried chicken with a very sweet finish. I was hoping for a more bold red chili paste kind of sauce, because when I ate all I could correlate it to was General Tso's chicken. The rice was delicious though! The Kimchi was good and spicy with that sodaesque fermented texture. Overall the food was decent and well presented. But the caviller and slow service turned me off from it all. Fine, put the baby in the corner but you still need to acknowledge that it exists.

You wouldn't expect a craving for Korean food to be satisfied in the heart of Dublin, or you would expect to get over it by downing a pint of Guinness and gnawing on a piece of crusty wheaten soda bread. That's why I was pleasantly surprised to find this comfy, compact hybrid of a place just down the block from my hotel north of the Liffey. There's a pub on one side, and an Asian restaurant on the other side serving both Korean and Japanese food. Usually such an unwieldy combination is a signpost for a United Nations of mediocrity, but I found the Korean food served here quite tasty and filling. I started with the € 8.50 Kimchi Vegetable Pancake, which instead of serving a platter-size one as they do stateside, came as a quartet of thin silver-dollar pancakes with a sliver of a side salad (see photo). They were crispy good and devoured in no time. As I finished, a middle-aged Korean woman, presumably the owner, came by with a couple of sweetened rice balls apparently to celebrate the full moon (see photo). OK I can dig it. It was a nice treat before the main event. For my entree, naturally I had to try their € 10.90 Bibimbop, which came in the traditional stone bowl (see photo). I kind of wished the meat came in shards rather than minced, but otherwise the assorted vegetables were delicious, and the crusty rice provided a nice contrast in texture. When the owner saw me spending so much time playing with the filters in my Instagram photos, she immediately started mixing my bowl and scolded me for waiting so long to enjoy her food. I didn't mind the verbal abuse since she reminded me a bit of my mom. Speaking of which, I took a passing glance at the sashimi on the sushi-making counter, and it looked surprisingly fresh and appetizing. Ah well, maybe next time I'm in Dublin... FOOD - 4 stars...sturdy Korean food well prepared AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...a bit tight in there but nicely casual nonetheless SERVICE - 3.5 stars...a proud owner and a quiet staff TOTAL - 4 stars...Korean craving satisfied in Dublin

Absolutely lovely place for Korean and Japanese food. We have been there twice in one week with different meals. They are a bit expensive but still offer a good deal. Don't let you mislead by the word "side dish". They are absolutely enough to feed 2-3 people as side dish. So grab some food and share. All the food we had was absolutely delicious! Only problem we had was with the english skills of the waitresses. Not sure if it's because I'm no native speaker. I requested to get the menu again and got the bill instead. I tried it again with another waitress but she came back with the card payment device... I still absolutely love this place and will definitely come back whenever I'm in Dublin.

Ireland culture is new to me but Korean food and culture is not. It was so neat to see Korean cuisine offered in an Ireland-influenced ambience. The food is absolutely amazing! I ordered the udong with shrimp tempura after a really long day. Their extended hours is a nice treat for late night travelers.

I love Kimchi! I was initially a bit hesitant when I walked in as it doesn't look particularly fancy or impressive, but I soon learned that the impressive thing is what I suppose you would want, the food! The food is genuinely fantastic. It's Korean... fusion, maybe? The staff are really sweet and helpful, the menu has loads of options for different tastes (and plenty of veggie options too). Everything I have had here has been out-of-this-world-delicious (with the exception of the bibimap, which I found bland/ick - i was told by my dining partner it was due to the lack of meat? anyway!) But everything else Is lovely. I would (and do, all the time) really recommend trying their Soy Potato Sushi Roll if you haven't. Really different to anywhere else that I havent tried in Dublin. Love it!

I've only every eaten Korean food 3 times before, twice in in Dublin (Han Sung and Arisu ages ago, and once in Japan), and I have to say I was pretty impressed with Kimchi. I don't know much about Korean food, but I found Kimchi to have a really authentic feel to it, and i loved the bibimbap! It was pretty packed but the service was still quite good, and they have a nice button on the table to call the waiter (I wish every restaurant had this!). I loved the lively atmosphere and the service was pretty quick, which was surprising since it was quite crowded! In terms of price, I found it very reasonable; most mains were in the 10 euro range, starters were 5~6 and sides were 3~4 euro. The lunch menu is pretty small so it seems better to come here for dinner (you can check them online) when there's a lot more stuff. They also have a few Japanese dishes too in addition to all the Korean dishes like sushi, sashimi etc if you're not into spicy. My favourite Korean dish is Bibimbap, and they do pretty good ones here!

Bulgogi rolls (not my favourite tbh)

YUM officially found my favourite Korean restaurant here. This place gets quite busy but you have the option of having your food in the co-joining (is this even a word?!) pub so you should be seated fairly quickly if you're not fussy. Service is quick and food very tasty. We stuck to the traditional dishes - bibimbap and the beef bulgogi, both very yummy. The bibimbap stone bowl could be hotter though, so it will caramelise some of the rice to a lovely crispy crunch!

This is one of the strangest but best places I've been in a long time. It is half Korean/Japanese restaurant and other half is a traditional Irish pub. Stay with me here--I know it sounds like a recipe for disaster but it is not. Our airBNB hosts had recommended it and there are tons of awards on the front door. When we walked in there were no tables available unless you had reservations (good sign!) but were told we could eat on the bar side which we were happy to do. The bar side did play the randomest old school playlist and mix your standard pub decorations with Asian language posters but it wasn't off putting to have your dinner there. We ordered Salmon and Avocado Maki, Tempura Shrimp Udon and Jeyuk. Our sushi came out first and it was really good. I'm picky with my sushi because I love it so much and this stood up to my high standards. Next came my Udon and my husbands Jeyuk. My noodles were great but I wish the tempura shrimp had been served on the side rather than on top of the soup as the batter went a bit soggy. My husband liked his Korean chilli pork but wished he'd maybe gone for beef as the pork was an odd cut. Our dumplings never came and when we told a waitress (being on the pub side they can be hard to catch) she went and yelled at the food runners (well I assume she yelled at them based on her tone) and shortly after we received the dumplings which were nice but I was very full at that point. If we hadn't have had to pay up front (which you do on the bar side) I would have just said to leave it. It was definitely an experience and I'd recommend it if you are in the Chinatown area (Parnell Street just off top of O'Connell street) of Dublin.

Soya potato roll. Hiding under all that delicious fried potato is delicious avocado and cream cheese sushi.

I used to really love this place. If I had reviewed on the first time I went in I would have given it five stars, but since then the place has really let it slip. This was the first place I ever tried the Korean dish bibimbap. I loved it. Even though their menu is full of other amazing looking dishes I nearly always go back to the bibimbap. I had not been her for about a year, maybe more, and I convinced my girlfriend that we should go in here for a pre-cinema feed. I ordered bibimbap along with a number of other sides and dishes. Most of it was fantastic but the bibimbap only had like 4 pieces of beef in it. For a dish that is primarily a beef dish this is not really ok. Now the other food was all amazing. The soya potato sushi rolls are some of the nicest sushi I have ever had. I should probably be giving four stars, but I can't really help but feel bitter about my bibimbap. As a bar the place is nice to drink too. They have a decent selection of beers and also have a loyalty card system; buy 6 beers and your 7th is free.

This place makes me cry tears of joy - who knew I could ever find decent Korean food in Ireland. It's a little weird hybrid of Korean restaurant slash beer garden?...but that's besides the point. The Korean food is bomb. Go for the Korean pancake (seafood!) it comes with a beautiful sauce. The spicy tofu soup is pretty decent as well. The place gets a little crowded so I recommend calling ahead to get a reservation. Again, as long as you're safe with the menu you're getting yourself a rather decent Korean meal :)

This is a lovely restaurant serving Korean / Japanese food. Eaten here twice... I've had the tuna sashimi here, they're nice and fresh. The tempura prawns are lovely as are the battered prawns I had for a main. Both visits the food and service were excellent. You can see why this place has won a lot of food awards - they're well deserved!

The ambiance of the restaurant felt authentic. From the art to the decor to the serving trays/dishes and utensils. The restaurant has a nice intimate feel like you're having dinner with your family. We were seated quickly and our server was attentive and helpful. We all started off with the sake pornstar martini. It was really good, a bit on the sweeter side. For all appetizers we had the edamame and gyoza. The gyoza included chicken and a nice sauce. It was a nice size portion (~6-7 pieces). Both were really good. For our main dish we had the Kimchi ramen, Maneki yaki soba and the spider roll. The ramen was a nice size portion and was packed with a variety of meats. My friend said the broth was really good and spicy. The Yaki soba was a perfect portion for me. It included roasted chicken, prawns, roasted pork and veggies. It was very flavor and good. It also came with a side of miso soup which was perfect. The spider roll was massive. There were 8 giant pieces and it was tasty! I also snapped photos of our neighbors Teppan salmon teriyaki and beef teriyaki. They said both were amazing. I've seen a few reviews mention the pricing is a bit higher but it was worth it in my opinion. The portions were a bit larger than what I've experienced before, the food was tasty, the drinks were good and service was great. They also do karaoke upstairs and it was actually pretty entertaining listening to them while we ate. There is an automatic 12% gratuity/service fee included but there is a note that you are not required to pay. Definitely keeping this on my list for the next visit.
