Sushi bento with miso soup. All for approx 8 euro.
    David B.

The perfect pit stop after a day of shopping on the Northside. Sushi is super fresh, bentos are quite generous, price is awesome. At around 8 yoyos you can't go wrong and you also get a cup of miso soup to warm you up. I often enjoy my sushi by the window and observe the randomers walking past. My little place of calm on a busy street. p.s. A tip, a little bird told me that 30 mins before closing, they offer their bento boxes for half price. Now, there is no guarantee they will have any left, but if you're passing by you can always check!

Open over a month ago, Kokoro is attracting lots of sushi-loving Dubliners. With its minimalist interior (it has a large fridge and a hot food counter), hungry customers want to know what's going on inside. My appetite and curiosity got the best of me today and I peeked into the takeaway shop. Little individually wrapped makis and sushis were stacked neatly in a row. Customers are asked to choose at least 2 pieces of one type of sushi which varies in price from 1.75 to 2.25 Euro. Alternatively, you can buy a hot or cold bento for 5.45 or more. This last deal comes with a free miso soup. I purchased a cold bento that had tuna and salmon sashimi. It was fresh and filled the gap. Because there are no seats, I ate standing up and looking out the window. I enjoyed Kokoro but I wish they had a seating area. It would only further enhance the experience.

Kokoro is a great place to pick up sushi. it is a little over priced during the day but when it gets to the evening they discount everything so they can sell off the last of their stock. The hot bentos are all really well priced and very tasty and filling. Kokoro is very similar to a chain around London, called Wasabi. They are about the same quality as well. I normally don't like seeing chains pop up all over a city but I really don't mind seeing more Kokoro branches popping up around the place.

Yay!!! Another sushi bar in Dublin! There aren't enough in this town, but that's a story for another time.... Kokoro has that wonderfully pristine, polished, ordered and orderly feel of anything Japanese. The sushi is appetisingly displayed in neat rows of succulent looking salmon, tuna, and prawns, and the bento boxes are delicious delights of colourful creations worthy of display in an art gallery. Presentation is half the battle with Japanese food - if it looks good it always tastes better, don't you think? I had the Salmon Tataki with Carrot Ginger dressing. I tell you what, I'd buy it just for the dressing - that stuff was divine... do they sell it in bulk? The salmon wasn't bad either. Actually it was great - fresh and tasty and ever so lightly seared... All bento boxes come with miso soup (which was a little cold, old and disappointing, I have to say) but if it's chopsticks you're after you'll have to fork out a whole 10 cents extra. I resent being charged for utensils, but we'll talk about that another time... Sometimes after 6pm they have a deal on bento boxes - all for 5 euro (usually 5.50 - 6.50), so it's good for a quick meal between drinks (or whatever you happen to be doing in the early evening. Please note, I may reside in Dublin, but alcoholism is not being endorsed here). Kokoro also serves a range of hot dishes, including the usual chicken katsu curry, teriyaki, udon, and soba, which I'm sure are tasty at lunchtime but definitely lose their appeal after sitting on a hot plate for six hours. Note to my ex-boyfriend - they serve ramen here (poor guy was obsessed with the stuff). Europe certainly doesn't do Asian food as well as the Asia Pacific, but I guess I'm just spoilt. This is good quality, tasty Japanese food. Go there.

I am a fan of Kokoro. Ok so the sushi isn't anything exceptionally different or special but it's good & one of the only places in town that you don't need to take out a second mortgage for a few California Rolls. They do a really good value dish which is basically the broken up sushi rolls with fresh fish on top - it ranges from €2.50 - €5.00 and is something I always get close to pay day ! Haven't tried the hot food but doesn't look too enticing to me. I HATE that they charge for extra soy sauce even when you are eating in - to me it's a staple in an Asian restaurant like salt and pepper

I love Kokoro, been coming here since it has opened. The place itself is not fancy and pretty tiny and it can happen there is no seats available (they only have 4 benches) but you can get a bento box or sushi on the go and it's super cheap. For 8.45€ I got a sushi/maki box and miso soup. Their hot food selection is pretty amazing too, you can get a combo box with 2 hot bento for 7.25€ and it's a pretty big portion. They also have a loyalty card (I just put the last stamp on mine, yay!) that you can use for any of their hot meals. Great value for good sushi.

Have to say, I was extremely impressed by the quality of food I had in Kokoro. I had a huge craving for sushi and when I walked passed this spot I couldn't keep myself from walking in. I was immediately greeted by the lady behind the counter when I walked in. I selected a Harmony bento box from their large selection of sushi, which included both bento selection boxes and individually wrapped sushi. When I purchased the box I was given free miso soup either spicy or original, I chose original and it was delicious! The price of the bento box if I remember correctly was around €11.45 which I believe to be very reasonable for the amount of quality sushi that was in the box. My only complaint is that when I finished the soy sauce that came in the box I refilled it with the soy sauce on the table which tasted a bit funny but nothing too bad just not to my liking. The lady behind the counter was very helpful with showing me where to leave my tray and where to put my empty box. I loved my experience at Kokoro, I will be coming back and I recommend it to any sushi lover!

Definitely the best Japanese takeaway in Dublin. Got a Pork Ramen and some sushi and it was magical. Still up there with the best.

The ambiance of the restaurant felt authentic. From the art to the decor to the serving trays/dishes and utensils. The restaurant has a nice intimate feel like you're having dinner with your family. We were seated quickly and our server was attentive and helpful. We all started off with the sake pornstar martini. It was really good, a bit on the sweeter side. For all appetizers we had the edamame and gyoza. The gyoza included chicken and a nice sauce. It was a nice size portion (~6-7 pieces). Both were really good. For our main dish we had the Kimchi ramen, Maneki yaki soba and the spider roll. The ramen was a nice size portion and was packed with a variety of meats. My friend said the broth was really good and spicy. The Yaki soba was a perfect portion for me. It included roasted chicken, prawns, roasted pork and veggies. It was very flavor and good. It also came with a side of miso soup which was perfect. The spider roll was massive. There were 8 giant pieces and it was tasty! I also snapped photos of our neighbors Teppan salmon teriyaki and beef teriyaki. They said both were amazing. I've seen a few reviews mention the pricing is a bit higher but it was worth it in my opinion. The portions were a bit larger than what I've experienced before, the food was tasty, the drinks were good and service was great. They also do karaoke upstairs and it was actually pretty entertaining listening to them while we ate. There is an automatic 12% gratuity/service fee included but there is a note that you are not required to pay. Definitely keeping this on my list for the next visit.

I wouldn't recommend getting a bowl unless you have a big appetite, and you may not want to order any appetizers (it's that much food in the bowl - gotta love it). I had the tuna Ngiri and it was sooo good. Now I like to order it from my favorite sushi place back home; they left such a great impression. The atmosphere is lovely, clean, and welcoming. Ugh, they make me wish I were in Ireland right now lol. The service was excellent. Aside from making me smile with great humor and politeness, they also want to make sure you enjoy your meal. I just felt like it was all love, where they want to make sure that nothing is wrong. You don't get that everywhere. I also enjoyed the jokes and laughter, which might not be the norm (the politeness is, of course, probably the norm). I was a humorous customer who probably made them equally comfortable, which is incredible. That's why it is always important to be nice to your servers. The Hamachi sashimi was surprisingly good for the price, thick cuts with the standard light and savory taste of hamachi, fiber felt fresh and was a bit bouncy, no foul odor or mushy mouthfeel in typical cheap Japanese eateries. KaraAge fried chicken came in small bite-size pieces, freshly fried, juicy, but a bit too bland and the pastry was a bit too thick. Also wish they had used a better sauce than simply shoyu (soy sauce). Overall the food was OK for the price, you get what you paid for.

When we arrived, the door was locked and some employee opened it for us but then walked away. It took a few minutes for us to be acknowledged by someone else to seat us. When the server approached, we ordered water to start. When he returned with the water, we asked if they had straws and all he said was "yes" and he walked away when we said we needed a minute to order food. We ordered different things such as sushi rolls and gyoza and after an hour being there, we had received nothing. When the food finally came, my order was missing a roll and had sashimi on the plate, so he took the plate back. When he returned, he said the kitchen had made a mistake and they were out of tuna, even though the plate he took from me had tuna. The only thing that was wrong on the original plate was the sashimi. He asked if I wanted something else and I was so hungry, I asked if my other order could come out while I looked at the menu. What I did receive, did not have any tuna, even though the menu said it should, I guess that's my fault for asking for the other 2 rolls to come out, thinking all they would do is take the sashimi off the plate, but he should have told me they would not have any tuna at all to make sure I would still want it. The sushi did not have any flavor, not even the soy sauce helped. The most flavorful thing on the plate was the sesame seeds and I wasn't the only one at the table who thought that. It was so unenjoyable that I could not even finish the 2 rolls I had in front of me. The service was overall terrible, the server was not attentive or friendly. The food was severely overpriced. The only good thing about this meal was the gyoza, and that another server came to tell us the kitchen was doing a last call for food. It's definitely one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had and our group of 6 is all in agreement. Would not recommend, would absolutely not return, not even for free.
