Japanese was not my first choice for a dining experience in Dublin since I come from San Francisco where Japanese restaurants are beyond commonplace. However, Jamie W. and I were a tad sauced from having a couple of pints of Guinness at The George across the street, and well, the sight of red paper lanterns made me think a taste of the motherland by way of the South Inner City might do the trick before strolling the adjacent Temple Bar district. It turned out to be a spacious spot where the young Japanese host took us to our table for two where we perused the robust menu of items they call "japas", a bar-bite translation of Japanese izakaya-style tapas. "Japas" just sounds so not right like a mean racist epithet. Anyhow, we thought small plates fit the bill since it was just a few hours earlier that we had big burgers at Bunsen. Jamie started with his favorite, the €8 Chicken Katsu, which amounted to a pair of pounded and breaded chicken breasts fit onto skewers with asparagus spears and drizzled with a sweet barbecue sauce and mustard (photo: http://bit.ly/2eyjqu1). Not sure what the point of the skewers were, but the chicken was certainly tender enough with enough crisp to the coating. I had a hankering for the €8 Yakitori since I'm a thigh person, and it didn't disappoint with succulent, char-grilled pieces skewered with spring onions and lacquered in their yakitori sauce (photo: http://bit.ly/2e1eV9a). Interestingly, our salads came afterward with Jamie ordering the simple and refreshing €3.50 Seaweed Salad (photo: http://bit.ly/2eHWwPO), while I went full gonzo and had the €8 Sashimi Salad with chunks of fresh salmon, tuna, and sea bass in a bowl of mixed greens with a wasabi and truffle oil-based dressing and topped with masago and radishes (photo: http://bit.ly/2eHr6Yj). It was not quite the chirashi bowl I was seeking out, but it was tasty nonetheless. Our final course was the Rainbow Roll, which we initially balked at since it had the whopping price of €18.95. When it finally arrived, we saw why...it was almost ridiculously ginormous like a naked sushi burrito (photo: http://bit.ly/2f64HIq). It was good but I have to say excessive with the rice dominating the fish. We indeed left with full stomachs. FOOD - 4 stars...not quite authentic but still satisfying for heartier appetites if that's how you like your, uh...japas AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...creative use of steam and fish baskets as light fixtures with a heavy dose of vintage commercial art, a big space SERVICE - 3 stars...on the quiet side, not that informative TOTAL - 4 stars...the food mostly works even if hipsters and clueless tourists appear to be the target here

Wouldnt really recomend this place. You will pay double for what you get! Sushi was much bigger about 6 month ago and prices cheaper. Staff is really good, friendly and nice! I dont remember exact prices but it was something like that: Sushi small 8 pieces - 9.00€ -9.75 € Sushi big 8 pieces - 19.00€ - 19.95€ Salads (tapas portion) - 8.00€ - 9.00€ Sashimi 4 pieces ( not 6 like usual sushi place) Yasai tempura- was okay (fresh) Yasai Gyoza nice- sause is okay. Total bill for 3 small dishes ( small sushi, yasai gyoza and yasai tempura) was 28€ I definately wont come back :(

Izakaya is currently slightly shut down due a fire.* As Joni Mitchell was wont to sing, you don't know what you've got til it's gone. I miss Izakaya already. Izakaya is a bar which does japanese stuff. They have Kirin and Nipponia on tap, and some other japanese stuff bottled. Great stuff. They serve saké (generally quite good), though the last time I attended they wouldn't serve it heated for safety reasons. I gave them short shrift for it at the time, but given that the place has now erupted in flames, I suppose we'll let them away with that.** They serve japanese food too. I've always enjoyed it, though it's nothing special. I would not go to Izakaya for food. *** On a non-japanese theme, they serve excellent cocktails. The barmen are competent, their liquors are class (Kraken dark rum, for example), and they're quuiiitte strong.**** Finally, for those of you wondering why I like this place so much as to give it 5 stars, they have generally top notch DJs playing behind the bar (cool) and they're open til 3 every night of the week! ---- * i.e. completely shut down due to a fire ** As in, we would if it were still open. *** Their salmon seems to have been well smoked though. (har har) **** After 2 cocktails here (and a number of beers), I got so drunk as to fall asleep in the middle of a very loud gig afterwards.

By far the best cocktail menu in Dublin, in my opinion.

I'm not completely going to eat my words about not liking Japanese food, but I'm definitely impressed by the Izakaya. We sat downstairs and went for the Japas, 5 for 35, sharing between 2 people, which was more than enough. We went for the Squid Tempura, duck pancakes, white fish, Ebi Gyoza, Sashimi Salad. I had never tried sushi (what?) so I was intriugued by the sashimi salad which has raw salmon, tuna and sea bass. My first bite was the salmon I'm sure, which is a fish that I love. I got a good mouthful of everything on the plate and it was actually surprisingly nice! Then I went for a second bite and it was WAY too fishy and overwhelming. I'm guessing it was the sea bass. So all in all I can't say if I like it or not...I might need another go. Everything else was totally delicious. The calamari were perfectly cooked and the texture was perfect. The white fish and veg was so fresh and flavoursome, and the dip that came with (sort of black bean thing?) was unreal, and went with everything on the table. I don't normally like prawns, but the Ebi Gyoza was one of my favourite things I tried! It didn't have that crunchy texture of regular prawns, and the flavours were just delicious. The duck pancakes as many have said were just delicious. I also tried the sweet potato wedges which were incredible, but I didn't like the dip. I tried the chicken wings which were unremarkable but you're not going to a place like this for the wings. The service was fantastic and they were able to take orders at different times and keep track of everything-- everything came out correct too which was brilliant. I'll be back!

SUGOOOOIIIII! I love this place with my mouth, my stomach and all my heart. It's the kind of place where dishes keep coming, even though you don't have a free square centimetre on the table. You're inbetween a Miyazaki movie and a Rabelais novel, swimming in a tsunami of succulent dishes flowing endlessly. It's always a risky bet for restaurants do try themselves on fusion food, and, let's face it, it's usually a disaster. Yamamori Izakaya totally succeeds on this difficult challenge with their Japas (Japanese tapas): for 35 euros, you can pick 5 japas from their long menu (usually just the right amount of food for 2 people). My favorites? - the Izakaya burger. Yes, my mind got blown by a burger in a Japanese place, but trust me: it's really, really good - nice juicy beef patty, cucumber dressing, homemade bun. 5/5! - the duck pancakes are one of the best I ate. Your tastebuds are instantly sent to Beijing with this one - the dim sum and gyoza are very good, especially the pork one - Venison Yaki Niku - deliiiish small venison teriyaki steaks on crispy lettuce - Sashimi salads - prepared under your eyes, what else? ... and much more. Just pick your favorites and get ready for a culinary trip around Asia. In addition, the place is really atmospheric (I mean, a Japanese vintage poster of Star Wars, what else do you want?) including really cool open kitchens where you can see your food being prepared, vintage decoration (well done on the celling light made in dim sum wooden boxes) and crowded tables. Sneak in their bar downstairs where you can sip a great selection of whiskys or order a nice cocktail. Missing this gem should be punished by seppuku - just try it!

Dined here last Sunday night looking for somewhere serving late eats after the football final. This popped up as an option with kitchen open until 1130pm. The entrance took us down dark stairs light by red neon lights and into what seemed more like a bar. There was another eating area that had closed earlier and it seemed we had just managed to make in and chat to a waiter before the chef checked our for the night. It was 1110pm... We guess that's OK! However all sushi was off the menu, this wasn't a put off but some of the party had to reassess their options. The menu consisted of lots of small plates so as a group we ordered one main each and a few extra sides. Our cocktails came first... I got a lychee something or other and it was deeevviine! Some of the food selection included beef cheek curry with black rice, chicken wings, seaweed salad, calamari...all these except the calamari which was were delish!! I really enjoyed my meal and would love to go back!

Rainbow roll with black rice - so good!

Go with the black rice - it's amazing! The Dragon Roll is huge. Easily enough to be a satisfying meal on its own. The Tuna Tataki salad was reasonably sized and also really good. The dressing (ginger?) was tasty - my only complaint might be that there was a bit too much dressing for my taste. The servers were pleasant and prompt. Prices were on the high side, but I'd expect that for sushi in Dublin.

Japas Japas Japas! What's not to love! I returned here recently for some Sunday night Nibbles, and as ever I was stunned that such good food was available so reasonably in Dublin City Centre, I was there with my other half and between us we wolfed down: - Tempura Vegetables, very very tasty! - Beef Tartare Style dish that was so so good! - Pumpkin Croquettes - surprisingly tasty! - Sashimi Salad - Again very tasty! - Duck Pancakes - Perhaps the tastiest I've had - Sweet Potato Wedges that are so much nicer here than anywhere else! This was all washed down with a Japanese Ale and left us both feeling as heavy as our wallets which has a nice amount left in them after we filled our boots on reasonable quit free delicious food

Ambience. B Service. B Food A Price. A Found on Georges street. There are 2 Yamamori restaurants, but this was has a sushi bar you can sit and sit at the sushi bar. Sit at the bar if it gets crowded for a table. Everyone I dealt with the was friendly. The sushi is not that adventurous. No salmon egg roes or sea urchin. But they have the mainstream of white Fah , salmon, tuna, octopus and few others. I ordered the €35 - 5 dish selections. A good deal to share and try different items. Everything I ordered was cooked and prepared to perfection. Sashimi salad had fresh bites of raw fish below the salad. I requested some wasabi on the side to give some zing to this dish. Pumpkin croquettes were Nicely fried and hot. Love dipping in a sweet hoisin sauce. Shrimp gyoza last were Nicky minced shrimp and spices wrapped in delicate dough and steamed perfectly Pan fried. Calamari rings were nice size and perfectly fried with the tempura batter. Kimchee pork belly was recommended tender and Nicely flavored. Duck confit had some lovely five spice lightly rubbed into crispy skin and the meat was moist with each bite. Tako Yaki. Special pan cooked octopus balls street food was nice and moist batter with tender pieces of octopus inside. Braised pork ribs were nicely spiced and tender on the bone. Karaage- fried chicken tenders with sweet sour sauce and veggies. Nicely cooked and great flavors! Everything I experienced was cooked and prepared perfectly. I do recommend requesting server to space out when to bring out certain plates until you've finished certain courses. However, take what you can get when it's busy! I'm a fan and definitely coming my back.

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.
