I really like the idea and design of this place, I just wish it was bigger! Get some more machines, air hockey, pool tables, stuff like that. Considering it's such a small building they've already packed in about as much as possible, so maybe they'll do an expansion someday... I've been quite a few times and it really depends on who is working that day on the quality of the visit. Sometimes it's a straight 5, and others it's a 1. I don't drink so I can't say much for the bar portion, but the games they have are good, I always go on a Tuesday where they do their unlimited play for $5. My wife and i love this place. Today was our second time visiting. We each tried "The Cowboy" slider and also shared a side of Totchos(tater tots shaped like Tetris symbols covered in cheese with a side of sour cream) and the fried brussell sprouts which we knew we loved from our first visit. Every single item was delicious!! We also love playing the vintage arcade games. That was the selling point on trying this place the first time! Staff is friendly and attentive. Bartender was amazing and actually cared about drink quality. He asked if I liked my margarita more sweet or tart. He also overheard my husband say he didn't like grapefruit so when my husband ordered that drink with the grapefruit the bartender said he would lessen the grapefruit flavor. We came here for a Friday date night and had a lot of fun! The atmosphere was very fun and "local" feeling, and the games were very fun. The food is cheap, but mostly just what you could get at a baseball game -- sliders, fries, chicken tenders. They have a bar, but the drinks were a little small for the price. We'd recommend coming at off hours -- the place is small and fills up quickly, and if you want to play games you'll sometimes have to wait in line for the popular ones like "Tetris" or "Pac Man." Have no fear about bringing your own quarters -- there is a very easy to use quarter machine. Neat arcade hidden in Hadley by the bike path. Their ecto cooler cocktail is awesome. We were there during the day and there was a jillion kids in there, so seems like a good place for parents with kids, and maybe if you're older you may want to come in the evening. I've been here twice already. Both experiences were similar. Ordering a drink is hard. The girl who primarily tends bar isn't well motivated. Every time I tried to ask for more then one drink at a time I would need to remind her to get the second one. There was also very little alcohol in them. I couldn't taste it at all. For the price they charge I'm not really inclined to be drinking there in the future. The food was good. Novelty items really. Nothing I would make a meal out of. Bar snacks. I had this place bookmarked for awhile now and finally stopped in today around noon. Upon entering everyone in my group was immediately impressed about the vintage arcade games and other vintage toys and decor. We used a Groupon we purchased before hand which included two unlimited play wrist bands and one order of large fries for $14. Pretty good deal. Plus I got eight free tokens for checking in on Yelp. It was a lot more than eight tokens, even cooler! Even better than the games was the food. The sweet potato fries were the best we've ever had. The onion rings, fries, and hot dogs were good and unique. Although we ordered one dog without onions and it came with onions. I had a kimchi dog and was thinking, who has that? Very creative menu. The prices were very reasonable. They had plenty of vegan options for one in our group. Everyone really enjoyed their selection of different iced teas. I liked the decent selection of beers on tap. I grabbed an Allagash White and a Racer X. The games were cool and reminded me of my youth playing Nintendo when it first came out. I would have liked to see more pinball games. They only had one and it had a note on it stating it was broke. A couple hours into our stay the kids started showing up. If you're like me and think kids are annoying it might be better to come at night. Super freaking duper throwback to my idyllic 80s childhood of video game playing!!! Instantly brought me some contact highs to play Galaga, Arkanoid, Pac Man, Donkey Kong, et al. for the first time since I brought paper lunches to school and/or ate out of my Garfield lunch box LOL. Also, rad place for a birthday party for today's youngin's! We had my step-daughter's 12th birthday party here and every kid was positively gleeful and mesmerized, playing the games and eating the food. Also cool because parents and other family members can stay to enjoy the party, too! I work at Blueprint Gallery in the same building as this place. I love everything about it. Beer selection is constantly changing, and i like that. The food is good, although working so closely I wish there were a few more healthy options, maybe a salad or two, Imma get all fat from all the fried stuff and hot dogs as apparently iI have zero will power against comfort food. The staff is all awesome, super friendly and cute. ;) I have tried all the games, and have full game temper tantrums over NBA JAMS on an almost daily basis, so that's good. arcade+beers+food .. a winning combo. seriously though, i am sure you have been to d&b, maybe barcade in brooklyn, maybe even bar-code times square back in the day.. to me, The Quarters is better than all that. Quarters has a pretty decent mix of maybe 20 old school cabinets and two pinball tables and a classic BEER TAPPER cocktail table - i was very sad the day i was in was the day that addams family pinball was not working, but all the other machines were buzzing away. Lots of classics you would expect, but a few missing - maybe they rotate machines out with popularity? (was there a donkey kong or tempest?) The Beer list is not extensive but it was pretty diverse - with a cider (a local one would have made it more interesting) and some other funky things available - some classic mainstream beers and some smaller craft ones server in custom mason jars (that you can buy) The food menu isn't really big either but it covered all the bases you would need for bar food, and everything we ordered was just fine for a small bar full of video games. The location was a bit weird, if there were not signs pointing us in the right direction i would have felt like we were not going the right way. A small road with some light industrial/garage type buildings and then a newer looking building with a tattoo studio and an arcade along side the nice paved trail - so if you are nearby you can easily walk here or go for a quick easy hike after a few rounds of beers and paperboy. Definitely worth stopping in if you like video games, beer, bar food and an 80's arcade vibe. read more

My favorite bar in the area. Tuesday nights are $5 unlimited games! Fun, colorful atmosphere, busy but not crowded. Waiting for games isn't really a problem; there are so many ones to try. Some break down here and there, but they replace them quickly! The food and drinks are delicious and prices aren't too bad. They have theme nights: the last one I went to was a Twin Peaks themed night, with a showing of the first episode and delicious mixed drinks called the "Laura Palmer". Bartenders are really kind and helpful. A place to bring friends, dates, family- all in the spirit of showcasing your inner "nerd". There are definite positives, definite negatives, and a few in-betweens to The Quarters. I'll get the negatives out of the way first. As another reviewer stated, it's kinda chaos in there. There was no visible waitstaff, and if/when you find a table, you'll be taking it as-is (so if the previous people just left, it'll be full of crumbs/spills/etc.). It's not a terribly huge space and tables/seating are pretty tight, so navigating the floor can be pretty tricky, especially if carrying food/drinks. The bar area is also where you order and pick up food, so that seemed to turn into a clusterf**k of patrons trying to do a variety of things all at once when it was busy. The positives: It's a really great idea and the overall decor is cute. It gives the impression of hanging out in a friend's basement with all the vintage arcade games lining the walls, vintage toys on shelves above the games, and even a lo-fi but charming sheet pinned to the back wall where 80's cartoons and commercials were projected. The food is pretty basic bar/pub food, but extremely reasonably priced. I also liked that the games themselves still took quarters (thus the name of the establishment). I can only imagine that keeping arcade games in running order that are 30+ years old can get quite expensive, so it's nice that the establishment kept the retro integrity of the machines and haven't jacked up the cost to play them. A couple of the people in our party smoke cigarettes, and The Quarters has a large outdoor area with tables and chairs which accommodated smokers. It was October and pretty chilly, so we were the only ones out there, but it seemed like a nice addition to the indoor space. The in-betweens: We were there for at least 3 and a half hours on a Saturday night, and it was really interesting to see how the clientele changed throughout the night. I believe we arrived around 6:30-7:00 and the place was just over-run with screaming kids, which was kind of a turn-off. I realize the theme of the place lends itself to children, but being a bar and all, we were taken off-guard by the amount of families/children. It was more like Chuck-E-Cheese than an adult spot. As the night progressed, there were short periods where the place seemed to empty out, only to be replaced shortly by a new round of patrons; the later it got, the more the adults seemed to be prevalent. Therefore, if you're an adult looking to be around other adults, I highly suggest going later in the evening. Although the games line the longest walls, the selection is limited. When it's busy, don't expect to jump on a machine whenever you want. They have small tables between each machine where you can put drinks and/or food, which is convenient for the players, but also kinda encourages people to hog a machine for extended periods of time since there's no incentive to move. Overall I think it was a really cool spot. Being someone who grew up in the 80's, it was great to see all the old games again... while sipping an adult beverage! It's a little off the beaten path, but well worth a visit. read more

Easily one of my favorite new places in Western, Ma! Vintage arcades, great food and drinks come together in a magnum opus of excellence! I have always been a huge nostalgia freak and one of the saddest things of being a child in the 80's and teen in the 90's was watching the mass exodus of arcades from shopping malls and neighborhood plazas. I was confident that my only way to ever be able to visit a proper arcade would be a lengthy and seasonal trip to the boardwalk of Hampton Beach. Enter the savior known as "The Quarters" The Quarters takes the classic arcade atmosphere and melds it with a more adult feel offering delicious beverages such as the Ginger Libation (which my wife always gets) and a more easy on the wallet Pabst option (my choice). The food menu revolves around classic "Junk" food fair such as hot dogs and other snacks, but puts a artistic spin on them by adding amazing ingredients. Two such concotions would be the Spicy Kimchi Pup ( featuring spicy kimchi and korean bbq) and the Mac Pup ( mac and cheese topped amazement!) The arcades take you back to a time before we all did everything with our phones and at least socialized when we played video games. Quarters Features such co-op heavy hitters as Street Fighter ( I call Zangief! ), Rampage ( I call the werewolf!) and my EVER favorite The X-Men Arcade ( I call Dazzler!!!!....yes I use Dazzler.) other classics include Tapper, Q-Bert, Simpsons Arcade, NBA Jam, Ms. Pac-Man and many others including pinball. Most of course only cost 1 Quarter, tho lets be honest you will be spending more than just one before the night is over. The quarters also has been host to many fun theme nights including 80's night, hell night, and even a star wars themed night. Staff has always been friendly which is a HUGE deal for me. Nothing worse than rude employees who think the customer owes them something. This has Never been the case at this establishment. So bottom line on The Quarters is that it is one of the coolest new places around. Great food, tasty beverages and awesome arcades make for a fun night out with friends. I really like the Quarters. They have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options and many of their foods can be made vegan, which is nice. I recommend the kimchi pups and the Brussel sprouts! I don't go for the arcade, but my husband does and he enjoys it a lot. Oh, and the 80s music is great. For kids of the 80s (or somewhere around there), this place is as awesome nostalgic fun as anything you can think of, but probably even more fun. Vintage Tetris, Burgertime, Mortal Kombat, Ms PacMan and so many others take me back to playing in arcades when I was a kid, and I appreciate that the machines take actual quarters (or tokens), not swipey cards like you get at the modern arcades. The decor is all vintage toys like the Pee Wee Herman doll and an ALF puppet. SO COOL. Oh, and they serve food and drinks! Beers are a little pricey so it can add up if you like to drink something thats not PBR, but I'm a big fan of the food which includes about a dozen variations of sliders and mini hot dogs (vegan options available!!!) ranging from about $2-$4 apiece. Basically, you can have a really great time here. I wish there weren't kids here. I have a tendency to curse loudly sometimes when playing video games. But its fine. I would totally want to come here if I were a kid, and its cool that they can appreciate the older games. The crowd becomes more grown up oriented as the evening goes on. This place is awesome. It's refreshing to have a place in the area that is innovative. Definitely a change of place from other things in the area. The menu always includes special items that usually reflect the season. Drinks are a little more pricey for a college town. I always end up spending a lot of money on video games once I get a few drinks in me. I've since fulfilled my dream of beating the Simpsons video game, now that I don't have to hound my parent for quarters. It's a hidden jewel tucked away on route 9. Totally worth the wait. The menu is well thought out, with creative touches given to what in lesser hands may have been perceived as simple offerings. Common bar food with very uncommon and interesting flourishes. Take the Bahn Mi Pup, for instance, which combines a (vegan or non) hot dog with the delicious Vietnamese sandwiches that we used to be able to get down the street.
