We've been to Dan Rooney's at Empire City a few times for dinner. Prior to this restaurant opening, there was not much reason to go to Empire City unless you are a gambler, and like slots and horse racing. This restaurant is THE restaurant for really good pub food! Although the menu is small, we haven't had many items yet; but the ones we've had are all very, very good. The nachos are oh so good. They are gourmet looking with the toppings thinly sliced. Careful, the jalapeño peppers can be spicy, but they are so good. When the restaurant opened, they had loaded potatoes as an appetizer. We didn't get to try them, but I wish they would bring that item back because they sounded so good with cheese and short ribs. Oh well; maybe they'll make an appearance again! The Dan Rooney burger is A-MAZING!!!!!! The meat has a unique seasoning on it which really makes it appealing. But make sure they cook it to the proper wellness that you request. When I had it the first time, it was med rare just like I ordered it. Superb! The couple of times that it was ordered by other members of our party in return visits, the burgers have been overcooked. Although still good, the flavor is best at med rare (in my opinion). The fish and chips is crispy and fresh. That's been ordered a couple of times and each time has been very tasty. So cute served in a wire basket on 'newspaper' and with vinegar and tartar sauce. The only downfall is that they only give 3-4 pieces of fish. The same is true of the Reuben sliders. They have awesome flavor, but it really shouldn't be served as a sandwich entree. The give 3 sliders about the size of a silver dollar and either fries or a salad...not so filling for a dinner at all, but worth it for the taste. Other items we've tried so far include: drunken onion rings (a bit greasy but very light, crispy batter and whole rings of onion - as opposed to those nasty frozen minced onion rings you get other places); roast pork hoagie (excellent favors and great bread); and the hot roast beef sandwich (very good, tender sliced beef and savory au jus dipping sauce). We hear the desserts are amazing as well, but have yet to try any yet. We were told that ALL desserts are made in house including their Guinness ice cream. Sounds interesting.... Maybe next time.... Highly recommend this restaurant!!!! :-) The only downside is the portion sizes are a bit on the small side for the price...but we don't mind paying more for high quality, tasty food. read more

Don't even bother eating there. This place is filthy. The dishes and silverware are not washed properly. The people who work there from servers to cooks touch everything from their hair to their cellphones without washing there hands while they bring food to the table. Nobody uses gloves. The kitchen is open style so you actually can see how the food is prepared. The cooks are more interested to watch TV's which are all around since this is sports bar than cooking. Last visit nothing was prepared right, including the coffee. I don't understand how Yonkers Health Dept. permits this establishment to stay open. read more

Dan Rooney's is a new addition to Empire City Casino & Race track. We enjoy playing poker while having a few drinks. The bar that extends out into the casino feels very disconnected from the rest of the restaurant, almost as though it was an after thought. There are no TV's that can be viewed while sitting at the bar, only if you are at a table. We sat at the bar on the casino side and ordered a stout and a cider as well as starting a tab, which requires you to give them a credit card. Both were served in a GLASS. My cider was warm, but I still drank it. About half way through our drinks the bartender came over and said that the casino side has to be served in plastic cups and she took our glasses, with drinks in them, and poured the contents into plastic cups. There is a very obvious size difference between the plastic cup and the glass. I inquired about the size difference and was told that the cup is 12oz and the glass is 16oz, yet the price of the beer is the same. To me this is a big ripoff. A little while later we asked to see a whiskey menu, she promptly handed us an iPad with the menu and walked away. This confused me because I'm not allowed to have a glass, but yet she hands me an iPad and walked away. Since there really was no atmosphere and we were neglected by the bar staff we asked for the check. 20 minutes later it still had not come and we asked for it again. She swiped "the card" she had been holding for us and printed the receipt. When she gave it to us, it wasn't our credit card and there were drinks on our receipt that weren't ours. We pointed this out to her and she insisted that she had given us the card back, which she hadn't. Long story short, she lost our credit card and still gave us a bill. We only had 4 drinks so it wasn't that large of a bill to begin with. We had such high hopes for Dan Rooney's but in the end bad service and a lack of atmosphere will be the reason that we don't return. read more

Horrible. Service is bad. Food is worse. We had the avocado bread. A slice of bread with a smear of avocado spread some red onions and a very small piece of old dried up bacon. Wings were over fried and dehydrated like a dogs chew toy. My BLT was ok but my salad was wilted. Looked like it sat in the frig all week. Frank the waiter was excellent. The ambiance was great and the company was the best! I was with my family celebrating my sisters birthday. Starting with the nachos and cheese fries, the appetizers were enough to share. However, our favorite was the pretzel. Three of us ordered the brisket. Tender and juicy, the dish was worth the wait. Shepard's pie was our second favorite entree, followed by the noteworthy Dan Rooney burger. We recommend checking in because the manager gave us all a free t-shirt! I'm here at The Pub. I had an Impossible vegan burger with a side salad. The hostess had a great, friendly attitude. My server was dull (I tipped her accordingly). The burger was prepared perfectly, but the vegan cheese topping wasn't a winner. The side salad was great! Fresh, colorful, tasty....superb blue cheese dressing. The atmosphere catered to sports enthusiasts. There must be 30 or more televisions on every wall space. (Mixed tv sizes). The Pub is very clean......I'll be back! read more

Ate here with my family tonight for Father's Day. We started out with nachos which were pretty good and wings. When we told our waitress that we wanted the wings mild, she told us even mild is very spicy, so we had the sauce on the side. I had the grilled cheese with bacon and French fries. This may seem childish, but my mother, sister and I looked at each other and nodded in agreement - the fries were delicious!! The grilled cheese had a ton of bacon on it and was burnt so unfortunately the sandwich overall wasn't that great. At least we know the fries are!! read more

This was my first & last time there. First of all we had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated because we had a large party (9 people), yet when you looked inside the place was fairly empty so I'm not sure what the wait was about. Then it took a while to get our order taken, and even worse was the wait for the food! What made matters worse was that a lot of mistakes were made and the waitress kept making excuses and was lying about what was taking so long. Some of the orders were warm & some were just plain cold! Appetizers were brought out with the entree & one of the orders were totally forgotten about! The food was barely edible, the only reason I ate my shoe leather burger was because I was so hungry. One of us ordered the French fries with his burger & they were all stuck together, which leads me to believe that they just plopped a bunch of frozen fries in the deep fryer without ever trying to separate them. But the main reason I gave this place only 1 star is because of the attitude of the waitress. She was a bit rude, never apologetic about the incorrect orders & the totally forgotten order, it was as if she was blaming us for her errors. And according to the waitress the manager was aware of our situation, yet he/she never came out to apologize either. To me that is very poor customer service! Don't waste your money! read more

It's nice that they give you a t shirt for checking in. This place is good but it's not five stars good. Their food isn't that bad, but it's definitely not worth what you pay for. I have been here a few times and the servers are really nice but it seems as if they are always under staffed. We would be in and out within 40-50 minutes including getting appetizers, but the servers barely come over. We have had to wait a while just to get our check the last time we were there. (To the point where my dad left me his card, went to the bathroom outside the restaurant in the casino, returned, and we still had to wait at least another ten minutes.) if I could i would rate it a negative 10 I would! We waited a half an hour wait to get in. We looked inside and it wasn't even half filled. I went to today with my mother and my god mother. We are all managers that involved guest services and customer service. We understand that things happen but this was ridiculous. We sat down at 230. The restaurant was not busy and it looked like It was low staffed. Not all the tables were filled. We waited for our food for an hour. During the hour of us waiting, not once did our waitress explain that the food was going to be a long wait. We should have known because it took so long for our drinks. Which was just three sodas. By the way the drinks were flat. Anyways we didn't hear anything. There were a few other families that were waiting as long as us. We started to talk to the other families and ask how long they were waiting or if they have been here before. 30 minutes to an hour they were waiting. We could understand if we order something something special but all we ordered was two hamburgers and a chicken wrap. We finally asked our waitress what was going on? She said not much longer for the food. She didn't even go check. She was talking to another waitress. So ten minutes after it has been an hour we ask again. She finally goes back to the kitchen counter and talks there. She doesn't come back to update us. It seemed like our order didn't go through. Like she meant to bring bring the order back to the kitchen but she went went to other tables. So we finally got up to the hostess and told her we wanted our check we are leaving. She went over to the waitress still talking to the cooking staff and came back and said she is sorry about the wait you don't have to pay for your drinks. Mind you the waitress did not come back to us at all. She was just talking to the cooking staff and laughed at us. We start to walk out and the hostess starts talking about us to another Co worker and laughing. I turned around and said i want to speak to a manager. Not once did the hostess or waitress call their manager to speak to us. My godmother started to speak to the manager and he didn't say anything except we were backed up from this morning. If This was the case then they should have said something before we even sat down. Or he should have came around to tell us. He didn't offer anything to us to accommodate for the long wait. Not even we will get your food out to you now and your bill is free or a discount. No guest recovery skills once so ever. He didn't even seem apologetic. He didnt say anything after he said they were slammed this morning. His name was Van and he was not helpful at all. He turned around and walked away. This is unacceptable. All they needed to do was communicate with us. We are reasonable. We get it. We work with guests all the time and deal with guest recovery all the time. When we were leaving other people were coming In and we told them about it and they said that is how the service is. It is horrible but this is the only decent food place that is open. I have worked for fortune 500 companies and Never have I seen such horrible food service or management. I will be posting this on several social media sites, trip advisor, yelp, and sending a letter to upper management. Terrible place. Service is garbage and the food is even worse. Prices are ridiculous and the portions are too small. If you want to charge people up the ass, do you at least want to give them a decent portion and something with good quality? I do not gamble, but I decided to try Empire City's new restaurant and was amazed. The place is beautiful and looks like a true Irish pub, but nicer! The place is decorated with a large wooden bar, large beer mugs on top of the shelves, two pianos in the middle, many televisions, and an open view into part of the casino floor. It is very cool. The menu had many options, I got the cobb salad and potato wedges, which were both amazing! My friend got the Rooney Burger, which she also found delicious. To top off our dinner we got the Ice cream sundae. This was AMAZING and even had guinness ice cream. The service was good and the food did not take long. I would definitely recommend trying this place, as I will be heading back soon. read more

Started our day at Empire City Casino here and began with the Sports Platter Combo which my husband and I shared the best word to describe it was basic if I were to return I would probably order a different appetizer. For my entree I ordered a half roasted chicken which had roasted potatoes as a side and a roasted garlic head with toasted bread. Surprisingly the chicken was very good. It was tasty and the meat was moist. The potatoes were also good but they only gave you two tiny red bliss potatoes cut in half. My husband had the burger of the month which was a Guinness burger and fries. The burger had a Guinness beer glaze on it with lettuce, tomato and a large onion ring. Good food they have there, but i had to wait a lot of time for it to arrive, plus the waiter wasn't so nice and even not smiled once.

This place has a lot of potential. It is clean and spacious. It is located within the casino which is also very clean and smoke free. The only downfall is that sometimes the servers are short handed and you don't get noticed. The menu is ok I would stick with the usual bar favorites burgers chicken and fries. read more
