We were the last party waiting outside to order. Even though we were there safely before closing (3pm) and waiting for the inside party to finish ordering, the restaurant employee came outside told us that "the chefs called it and were done serving today." If the owner were actually there, they'd be furious that the staff basically turned away a five person sale. Came to this area on a sunny Sunday afternoon at around 1pm. We couldn't decide on whether to go to The Press or Monster Chef. They are just across the street from each other. I wanted brunch food (The Press) but I can never say no to sushi (Monster Chef)... plus, it's like... good quality AYCE sushi! It took us about 10 minutes in the car to decide that we weren't hungry enough to make the AYCE worth the money. So it was decide! We walked into The Press and there was no line or wait-- YES! It's an order, pay, and take a seat kind of place. I got the Isabelle (?) omelette and the bf got a breakfast burrito. I picked it because the pictures on Yelp made it look pretty! (Who else eats with their eyes? ) I also really wanted that biscuit that comes with the omelette... because butter on buttery biscuits are a step to heaven... er.. I mean... heaven in my mouth! After we ordered, we sat outside to enjoy the wonderful weather. Our plates came out shortly. I had a bite of the bf's burrito because it smelled amazing. My dish? Not so much. I stared at my dish a little longer... something was missing... THE BISCUIT!!! I walked back into the restaurant and asked them about my biscuit and they apologized, checked the kitchen, and came back to let me know that they ran out. They said sorry and that was it. I can't believe they didn't have anymore biscuits! What was I gonna eat the butter with? My potatoes? (That's good too but not as good as with biscuits...) I just wish they told me that they had no more biscuits before they made my order or gave it to me... or maybe even offer me a piece of toast so I can eat my butter with that... but nope. No warning of running out of biscuits... and no substitutions for the missing biscuit. Overall, the food was just alright. I liked the breakfast burrito but the omelette didn't phase me. I would give 3 stars... but minus one for no warning about running out of biscuits. Would I come back? Maybe if I were in the area and craving eggs... Disappointed. Good reviews but I called to find out how long the wait was. So she said was "just come first serve". I said, "I'm not asking for a reservation... just trying to figure out if I make the drive if it will be a two hour wait." Very unfriendly person answered. What happened to customer service? I drive up and waited 20 minutes in line to get a table only to find out the line was to order food... no one told me or handed me a menu, so then I had to get out of line to get get my elderly parents who I left in the car until we were seated. By this time then line was huge so we didn't get to eat here. A little direction and caring about your customers word go a king way. A delightful restaurant in Half Moon Bay. It is located across the street from the marina north of Half Moon Bay. It is a lovely rustic place. We stopped there for breakfast. There is limited parking on the street in front of the location. There are two distinct seating areas: one inside and one outside. The counter is located immediately inside the door. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was clean and relaxing. I tried the cinnamon roll and it was delicious. I plan to visit this location again when I am in the area and recommend others to do the same. read more

What an unfriendly place! With so many choices available in the neighbourhood, many people simply won't return here. Who wants to deal with grumpy staff who act like they don't care whether you buy from them or not. It's not a soup nazi era, people! Please don't act annoyed when you are asked to get the order right. Customers deserve a friendly service. Lumped in with poor service by your greeters and runners who don't know how to pack takeout orders are long wait times. My husband and I heard good things about this place, so we walked the short distance from the hotel to eat breakfast at this location. The place was packed and there wasn't a lot of seating. Some nice gentlemen saw us looking for a table and gave us theirs since they were leaving. I got the French toast (no sides) and my husband got the breakfast burrito. We both got coffees. The total with tax and tip was over $30. So pricey! Definitely not worth it. The food was pretty basic, but nothing to write home about. And definitely not worth the price. And I tried to fill our self serve coffee mugs with three of the six different types of coffee and two of them were empty. Service was basic too. Great little place to grab a coffee or tea and sit outside for breakfast. I got just something simple eggs and chorizo. The egg was cooked perfect and the chorizo was the perfect amount of heat. I was a little bummed that I did not get to try their in-house bagels, but I did not get up early enough. This is a hopping establishment as it is a favorite amongst the locals of Half Moon Bay. I love this place. I really do. But I have to point out that they have trouble getting an order written down and played correctly. Over the past two years, I have ordered 5-6 breakfast burritos from them, and on none of those occasions did they include the avocado I requested them to add. Not one single time. 5-6 orders, at least, and they have never gotten one of them right. Ever. Since I typically order to go, I never want to go back and complain--because this is a thing you only realize when you're comfortable at home, eating your food. You can't check for avocado on a burrito before you bite into it. I might also add that this issue has persisted even through a *complete change in ownership.* This is very, very frustrating. Best breakfast and lunch spot on the coastside. Worst server on the coast. The baker who makes the burned pastries is the worst kind of white privilege, she makes you feel cold and unwanted the second you walk in as she fixes her shit eating stare. Every white customer in front of me and behind me gets regular treatment, Brown person walks in.....you're getting condescended to, eyes rolled at if you're lucky, ignored at best. The owner has done great to ingratiate himself with the locals, he's built a great rep slowly and smoothly. Was recommended this place by a local. The place is very small with a nice ambiance. The service was very nice and even though it was crowded. The tables get cleaned and cleared relatively quickly. The food was tasty and I quite enjoyed the fried potatoes. I ordered the breakfast burrito which was passably good. My wife ordered the french toast. It doesn't come with fruit, I think you have to order that separately. However; the restaurant had a few flies lazy flying around the dining area and the coffee was served through thermoses and half of them were empty. I had to settle for dark roast and a mixture other almost empty coffees. The food was not very filling for the price. My wife had to walk down the street to another cafe because she was still hungry. This establishment must be popular with the locals, but if I'm in the area again, I'll probably explore other breakfast places first before thinking about coming back here. read more

First, this place advertises itself as a grilled cheese place, which was the reason I pulled over to try it out. Their take on a grilled cheese is utterly disappointing. The cashier didn't know the menu and had to read off of it, unfamiliar with their own offerings. The sandwiches came out and were cold. Most of the cheese wasn't melted and the bread was soggy and greasy. If this is your specialty, it needs to be the best around and this definitely wasn't. My order came with a salad, not fries like I had requested and there are no choices for dressings listed anywhere, nor are there options to have it tossed in your salad and not on the side. We came in at 12:30 and they were sold out of 95% of their pastries and trying to close early, but we were not rushed at all to order and enjoy our meal. The Press is difficult to review. I would give the building and cleanliness 1 star, but the food 3-4 stars. My husband loved the breakfast burrito. It had eggs, cheddar, bacon, salsa and red onions. My husband who doesn't care for potatoes (other than French fries) loved their country potatoes. I ordered the 3 egg scramble with ham, thankfully was ham steak and not awful lunch meat. My order came with their homemade biscuit, it was a little dry and crumbly. The lattes were good but not remarkable. This place isn't very clean and the flies are annoying. Hopefully after they finish remodeling it'll be better. read more

Sadly, the change of ownership just hasn't matched the quality of their predecessors. In the beginning it wasn't too drastic, but now that some time has passed it's just not as good. The fries aren't even close to what they once were and the cubano is garbage. They're serving it on a french roll that's not pressed, the ham is cubed pieces and there's barely any mustard, cheese wasn't melted.
