Also look at Google reviews; there are mony more than Yelp and are MUCH lower. TIP: I suggest getting a price quote BEFORE you give them all your personal information: address, phone, etc. This is absolutely possible, don't listen if they tell you otherwise. All they need is the destination address. The sales person will begin their interaction with you by starting a profile which will take some time. Then you will get a very expensive quote for what you're trying to ship. This is called the "Sunk Cost Fallacy" and it is a sales tactic based on the idea that if a potential customer has invested time in a transaction they will choose to participate in the sale even though the price is unreasonable because they have now invested so much time. So after you're waited in a long line and then filled out a profile you ask yourself, "Do I really want to drive to a cheaper place after all of this, or just have this done?" I wanted to mail a 194 page paperback book. After spending time starting a profile, which took quite a few minutes, I was quoted $11.75. This book cost $4.47 to mail at USPS. Because I am not a tool I decided to spend more time on this task rather than bend over and take it. I give two starts only because the employee was very nice (but slow). While I have no complaints about a slow employee, I know most people would prefer someone who doesn't leave you wondering if he has fallen asleep. This business is open on Saturdays, when the nearby post office is not. I believe this is the only reason a person would mail a package here. Great service! Been coming here for 20 years for most of my shipping and postal needs and I have always received friendly, helpful and efficient service. At first I thought something was wrong because the employees are happy, they smile, they engage in conversation, and most important, they hustle! Not adjectives typically used to describe USP workers. Yes, sometimes there is a long line especially during lunch hour, between 11-1, but it moves quickly. I know when I get to the front of the line, if I have questions they will give me the attention and info I need, like which is the least expensive way to ship a package. There is a long, high table that comes in super handy when filling out forms or finishing packing up a box. They have supplies there that you can purchase and also a small assortment of greeting cards. On Saturdays they are opened until 2pm which comes in handy when you have no time to get here during the week. Plenty of parking on the street. And right next door is a deli that makes delicious sandwiches. The only downside is they don't take credit cards and that is a big downside so I am deducting a star. I haven't carried cash in years! Most people don't. Luckily I keep a bill in my wallet for emergencies. When I don't have a bill, I stop at the ATM at US Bank across the street first. Again, not convenient. Other than that, no complaints at all. read more

Upon walking into the store, one of the rude clerks YELLED at my boyfriend "WE DON'T TAKE RETURNS OR PREPAID PACKAGES IN DECEMBER!!! DIDN'T YOU SEE THE SIGN??????!!!" Then walked over to the sign and read it out loud to him in a super slow condescending tone. I took this to be an act of aggressive racism. It felt like she was implying he can't read English because he is a Brown man. When in fact, he just didn't see the sign because he walked past it and directly to the counter. I said "Ok. This one isn't a return though." and the other clerk said she could do it. When I went to pay, they YELLED again that they only take cash. I had none on me and since we already had to go to a real USPS office for our other packages that they refused to take, I quietly picked up my package, without saying a word, and started walking away, at which point the rude clerk was SCREAMING at me as I exited the store "OH! YEAH!! IT'S OUR FAULT YOU CAN'T READ A SIGN!!! IT'S OUR FAULT WE CAN'T TAKE CARDS...." My boyfriend was a little slower in leaving than I was and said that she continued to scream after me even after I left the store. This place is a joke and the clerks are jerks. read more

I had a box I needed to ship. This a spot was closest in Google maps so I figured why not. Well, here is why not: They only accept local checks or cash and there is no atm on site. In this day and age that is a deal breaker for many people. I happened to have cash, so I wasn't scared away just yet. When I heard how much it would cost to ship a small box a couple states over, they lost me as a customer. I've shipped using USPS plenty of times before. It isn't always the cheapest option for packages, but the rates they gave me here were absurdly high. High enough I opted to go a mile down the road where UPS more than halved the cost. Outside of those issues, the store was extremely dated. The minimal inventory was off-brand and didn't appear to be very high quality. I couldn't drop it to a single star because the lady at the counter was relatively friendly. That being said, I'd suggest looking elsewhere if you need something shipped. read more

This is the worse customer service experience I've ever had. I was in the post office today around 12:30pm and would love for a manager to review the video, if possible. Please, take note of the two woman that were scheduled to work at this day/time. I assume I'm not the only person to experience this behavior. Why these women felt the need to be so rude is baffling to me. I will never be back to this location. I have been selling merchandise online for a living for 4 years and have had mostly positive experiences with the USPS employees. I am grateful to them for the essential roll they play in my business working. I won't be back. I've been using this USPS "annex" for decades but they are under new management and the person behind the counter attempted to charge me more than $10. to mail a couple of books media rate. I told her this couldn't possibly be true but she said that was the best price she could give me for media rate. I took the package to a real post office and was charged $4.35. Either staff needs more training or they are running some sort of scam. read more

Once you know Where this post office is, it's easy to get to. It's inside the mini shopping mall, on the east side of 42nd Avenue. The lady was nice when I went in, no attitude, didn't seem bitter. Seem to have more supplies visible for purchase than I've seen other post offices have, good. Over time and usage of this post office I update this, but to drop letters, had no issue. I went to this post office on a Saturday to pay a utility bill, that particular service closes at 1 pm while the post office itself closes at 2. I walked in at 12:45 and both employees were with customers. The one dealing with utility payments was having issues with her customer that took a while to take care of. It was after 1 by the time she was done and as she was getting ready to help me the other older lady I'm assuming was in charge made a point to tell me she was doing me a favor by letting her help me since it was after 1. It took less than 5 minutes to do my transaction.Mind you, from the time I walked in this woman kept complaining that they had to start closing prep to both customers and her coworker making everyone there feel like they weren't welcome and were an inconvenience ( there were three customers waiting for help). Then while I was being helped she made a snide comment about her coworker being slow and that it takes at least 30 minutes to close down. I worked in retail and customer service for 25 years and I've never made my customer feel like they're wasting my time or that I'm doing them a favor, nor would I close all my registers down while it was still business hours, much less speak badly about a coworker to customers! Perfect place to just drop off some mail but rude service if they have to actually do something for you especially if you come in an hour before closing. read more

Friends, I thought I was done with Yelp. After years of reading whiny reviews of everything from Burger King to French Laundry, I've seen enough "I'D GIVE IT ZERO STARS OF I COULD!!!" to last a lifetime. However, a recent experience here inspired me to come out of Yelp retirement as I strive to inform and entertain my fellow Portlanders. Located in Hollywood's 42nd Street Station - a mélange of middling to excellent thrift finds and small businesses unchanged by time - The Postal Station has Lynchian vibe. With fake walls and cash-only policies, you might think you've stepped back in time. It's so retro it feels like NIMBY hipsters would fight to preserve it while also not using the services. Of course, the "services" here are dubious to begin with. I stopped in here after I noticed the label on a pre-paid Priority Mail envelope I was about to drop in the USPS Blue Box wasn't completely glued down. Most USPS locations in Portland have tape at the ready. And the ones that don't have it out have always been willing to provide tape if you run out. However, once I walked into the Post Office I noticed a sign on the desk that said "NO DROP OFF." It seems weird to not put that sign in FRONT of the building, but OK. Things happen. I was about to say hello to the clerk before she - in a tone reminiscent of a drill sergeant with an ax to grind barks "THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT THAT" while motioning to my Priority Mail envelope. OK, harsh but maybe she assumed I was illiterate. Before I summarize the rest of the interaction let me emphasize that from Cliff Clavin to Newman, I have love in my heart for the US Postal Workers. Really. I understand that working with the public is terrible and that to quote Newman himself, "the mail keeps coming!" So I try to approach interactions like this kindly. I explained to the woman that that was fine, the sticker on my prepaid envelope had come unglued and I was hoping she had tape available as I didn't see the packing tape on the counter. Like Mr. Bumble to my Oliver Twist*, she looked at me incredulously. I half expected her to break out into a song about how she should punish me for making such an egregious request. Instead, she locked eyes with me while she took a small piece of tape and glued down the corner of the label while proceeding to lecture me on how this is a violation of protocol and how she could never let me get away with this again as I "wasn't a customer." While I was tempted to mention that it seemed like she was splitting hairs on what constitutes a customer since she was the one who denied ME, I realized it'd be fruitless and left. Even if I had bRoKeN tHe RuLeS, I feel like the amount of hostility was disproportionate to the "violation" seeing that other locations don't have a problem with this. Maybe the clerk was having a bad day and that's fine...but reading through these reviews I suspect this may just be the vibe. The TLDR/less entertaining version of this is that this isn't an actual USPS office. Maybe because it's a small location, or it is just an underground theater for Lynchian avant-garde performance art. I'll let you decide. But in the meantime, I recommend using the full-service USPS a little further up on Sandy. * In case it's not obvious, I am referring to the musical based on the novel. read more

I'll admit I lost my tracking #for a priory mail package I had to have cash or check to pay for that I only mailed to save myself airline hassle. Had I known the package of things purchased at a garage sale while on vacation would not not arrive I'd just risk the extra weight in my luggage. The price was reasonable, I was fine with packaging it myself, and the ladies were nice. When I called thinking I could get the tracking number off of a log of sorts I was told they do not keep such info. How incredibly unbelievable. I've worked in shipping and receiving at a big box store and I can't believe this business makes no log of shipments. I can't believe they don't take anything except cash and checks. I wouldn't ship anything from this place unless they start logging packages. I don't know what happened to the package. They don't know if it even left their store. I can't even say if I ever got a tracking number either. I know I was handed something but it really takes the trust away when there isn't tracking at the beginning point. Did someone take it from the counter or Did it get mixed up? Who knows. Join the electronic payment revolution, make a log with at least a last name associated. I'm out 50 bucks at the minimum in content and 20 bucks in shipping. What a total waste of time and money. read more

They have a nice collection of cards. That's where the positives end. I'm a New Yorker. I'm used to post office workers being pretty rude. But these women really take the cake. I walked in at 20 minutes to 2 and was rudely snapped at, the moment I stepped inside, "You have three minutes to get that sent" and I said "Don't you close at 2?" and she said "We close when the postman comes." No explanation, no assurance it could go out tomorrow. Just nasty. I was going to stay for convenience, but then I saw the cash only sign, changed my mind, laughed, turned around, got in my car, and wrote this review. Avoid. I read the reviews and just don't get the negativity. This postal service at the Hollywood Station is the best. The employees go out of their way to be welcoming and helpful. They do get busy, and try to hustle the patrons along when it is busy. Perhaps that comes off a rudeness. I see it more as being efficient. I am so glad I can use this branch. Ok, I remember going here 25 years ago fresh out of college when I still carried a check book or cash, but seriously, how can a company exist that does not take debit or credit cards? Who carries a checkbook anymore? I went here on purpose to buy 400 stamps...found a parking spot and went in only to find they did not take my company debit card. This place is listed for a USPS search. It did not say it was a contracted station with the actual USPS. I needed to purchase several money orders before traveling. It wasn't until later as I looked at the money orders that I realized they were not USPS money orders but Western Union. It was a complete f*@king nightmare trying to get them cashed. Even Western Union stores and stores that sell WU money orders would not cash them. I finally got them cashed but not without running all over the place and panicking beforehand due to the horror stories read online about other people having the same issue with WU money orders and losing their money because they couldn't be cashed and WU for the most part being a huge scam. This place should NOT be listed under USPS locations at the USPS website. If it is listed it should state it is not an actual USPS office. The whole reason to get USPS money orders is they're easy to cash because they're bought at the the USPS. If you need to purchase a money order pass on this place and go over to the REAL US post office on NE 50th St. It'll save you the headache of being turned down everywhere and the very real possibility of WU stopping payment on it, then losing your refund claim and ultimately losing whatever money you spent purchasing it. read more

They didn't have change for cash either. What kind of post office was this? Couldn't understand the employees, and I don't think they understand themselves either. What a thrill to have this inside that wonderful antique mall - vintage stuff, music, - Aunt Tillie's Cafe (another wonderful experience!) And at Christmas time there's a model train that travels around the upper perimeter as you relax into nineteen-fifty five! The post office has the best people working there and they are FRIENDLY ! I LOVE this place. Weirdly, I can always find parking. There is almost never a line. The women behind the counter are friendly, helpful, quick, and efficient. It's the only post office I've been to where I didn't have to wait in a (usually) long line - I can get in and out quickly. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because they don't take credit or debit cards. This is because they don't have the machine to make these transactions...I guess the USPS in its wisdom decided they don't need one! The WORST customer service! I was in line for over 20 minutes, with only 3 people in front of me, because they were doing their chores (counting stamps etc) rather than waiting on the people who were in front of them. Seriously.... they just went about their business and ignored the growing line of people. Then when I handed her the padded, flat rated postal envelope, she acted like she had never seen one in her life, had no idea what it was, then stated "they didn't sell them, so she didn't know how much the postage was". Huh? Aren't they a certified postal provider?? Not to mention she says the same thing every time I mail one! Few places in Portland deserve a negative review from me, so please except this review from my sincerest of states. The fact is, I don't really have the words to describe the feeling for this Postal Annex. There customer service sucks! Its the worst I have experienced. What adds to the bad customer service is the stupidity. There are two ladies that work there that have the mental capacity of a squirrel. And they aren't getting any smarter. I called them on the phone to see if they could ship this rather large box I have, I gave dimensions/weight, and they responded that it wouldn't be a problem. So I load up the dolly and walk a mile to the Annex because it was nice out. I get there and the lady says sorry I can't ship that box... So after a half an hour of measuring and weighing and considering once again whether the its possible, it was approved by the idiot. Not too mention they don't have a marker in the place to write the address with. Last time I was there I bought a box to donate to the other customers that would come by and again I go there and no efffing markers. I guess you just would of had to be there too, because this lady just got under my skin. She had me wrapped around her finger every time she repeated (6 times at least, literally) that I would have to pay for the marker if I were to use it. And last but not least they have one lady working the register so if you plan on shipping something or buying stamps at lunch make sure to tell the boss your going to be late coming back!!!
