What's up: My sister-in-law set up a surprise activity day here to celebrate my birthday. She swears that adults do this too but we were surrounded by kids the entire time lol. Parking: We parked at the Park & Walk - Schoolhouse Garage, which was the closest to the plushie workshop. It is $1 for the first 2 hours. Be sure to pay at the machines before you return to your car so you can (kinda) leave the garage faster. Environment: Once we arrived at the location, we had to call the phone number listed to inform them that we arrived. Someone will open the door and show you downstairs to the workshop. We pick the animal that we want to make and a staff member will set you up at their knitting machine. Instructions are provided as you progress in creating your plushie. The yarn is very forgiving so if you make an oopsie, the staff member will be able to help you fix or correct it. Then we get to stuff the plushie as much as we want to get that perfect hug/squish factor. The plush gets sealed up and we get to thread our final touches. What was ordered: - Chick Plushie Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. This was an interesting experience. I can say that this is the first plushie I've made by hand. Staff members are ready to help out! Such a fun and unique experience! My friend and I joined the 2-hour plushie workshop and each got to make our own plushie from start to finish. The instructors were incredibly patient, helpful, and made the whole process easy to follow, even if you've never sewn before. The workshop was well-paced, and it was so rewarding seeing our plushies come to life. The atmosphere was cozy, creative, and perfect for a fun date, girls' day, or family activity. We had an amazing time and left with two adorable handmade plushies and great memories. This was so fun!! As a bunch of 30-40 year olds we were surprised at how fun this was. Bring your girlfriends, daughters, sisters, and all your loved ones to struggle with fun together!! We easily booked our classes on their site. There was 4 of us and we each had to sign up for admission. You get to pick your animal, color, and accessories right when you book so be ready. We even added extra accessories in store and it was totally fine to pay additional when you're done, but highly recommend picking accessories ahead of time because they have a team that makes your accessory by hand days before. The place had a small door to enter through from the street. You have to call them to have them open the door. Then you walk down this staircase and see a small studio. It was super cute being all white and made the plushies stand out. There are different stations you do together and with the help of the staff. They set you up at each and give you clear directions on how to build your plushie. They are only feet away if you ever have issues or need help which happened a lot actually so glad they were on hand to help answer questions and save us when the war got stuck. Not an easy crafting activity by any means, it requires you to pay attention to where you are catching yarn and sticking needles but it was well worth the short breakdown moments. The total activity took about 2 hours and they don't allow any outside food or drink inside. You can bring a water bottle but thats it. The staff was fantastic. These girls were so patient and have so much experience. They did a lot of work keeping our plushies from dying before they even came alive. Please make sure you tip the girls when you leave because they do so much to make our plushie as cute as possible. So many customization elements throughout including where you put ears and noses. Super cute! My girlfriends and I had the best time and made awesome memories struggling to make our cute plushies. I especially had fun stuffing them and making them into the shape I want. I made a yellow bunny which was the 1st of its kind according to the staff so I felt like mine was extra unique. They have a ton of options combos for animals colors and accessories so have fun picking. Quality of the plushie itself was awesome. I have mine living on my couch and it's held up so well. Super soft and just adorable to look at. Definitely a place you can have a fun get together with your friends and family and everyone will enjoy it. read more

My little girl and I were in town for her birthday. Her birthday twin also wanted to do the same activity at this workshop. We found them on Instagram and my friends was able to make the reservation for us for Monday afternoon. The ladies who helped us were incredibly friendly and helpful. Our little girls loved the entire experience. It was really quiet and chill on a Monday afternoon as opposed to the weekend. We came to visit on the weekend initially and the entire shop was busy. So on Monday, it was nice to have a small intimate group of girls to do the workshop experience. During time of our visit, the workshop cost approximately $70 and an additional fee for accessories. If you want to join your kids, you still have to pay the fee or you can wait outside. My friend and I decided to eat at a restaurant across the street while we waited for our kids. This is such a fun experience. I chose to knit the unicorn which is a very light pink. The horn is already crocheted so once the body is completed and stuffed, you get to sew it on the area you desire. The eyes, cheeks, mouth, and ears are the same. So, if you want an unconventional/silly plushie, go for it! The other crocheted items like the boba, ice cream cones, bows, or flowers are additional and vary in price. They're such cute additions to your plushie! The instructors are very helpful and walk you through each step. If you get stuck or make a mistake, they can easily fix it. Such a cute concept and unique experience to book for your next date, birthday party or family outing. I saw this on Tik Tok and knew I had to book it. We have our two plushies on one of our couches at home and they look stylish as ever. They are located in Old Town Pasadena and you need to go to their door to call the number and follow the instructions. You need to get there right at their appointment time and not early. We ended up waiting which was perfectly fine. You then walk downstairs to the basement area where Plushumi is located and there is a table, some of the knitting machines, and a couple other rooms birthday parties were occuring. Everything at check-in is preset and Jasmine was super awesome explaining everything to us. Once we got on the machines though, it was quite frustrating because my machine was getting jammed at the same exact spot. Everyone else's was super smooth but then I ended up messing mine up which is fine but the machines was wuite annoying.Then Jasmine fixed mine up because there was a big hole. Super appreciative but kindv'e a hassle. Overall the price is expensive but the accessories were a lot too. I would say its a fun one time experience though! read more

We reserved Plushumi as a couples activity for a friend's birthday and had an amazing time! Although it seems fitting for just kids, Plushumi was very therapeutic for us. The plushie workshop is very hands on and perfect for an afternoon downtime activity. It's a great date idea and you leave with super cute pals. Christina helped us throughout the process and was so nice and amazing to work with. She guided us throughout the process and made this experience a day to remember. We were in the area for the weekend, and I wanted to find something fun and unique for my daughter and me to do together. I stumbled upon Plushumi on Yelp and managed to book the last available appointment for the next few days -- so I was pretty excited! Just a heads-up: Plushumi is located in the basement of the building, so you won't easily see a sign from the street. Once we found it, though, we immediately felt welcomed. The two ladies working there were incredibly sweet, patient, and helpful. They explained everything clearly, gave examples, and were always available if we needed any assistance. The first part of our appointment was smooth, relaxing, and genuinely fun. As later appointment times started arriving, I noticed some people came without reservations, which created a bit of a rushed environment. The staff stayed kind, gracious, and attentive throughout, but you could tell they were understandably overwhelmed trying to accommodate everyone. Overall, we had an amazing time. We left with the cutest plushies and added accessories at the end. It was such a sweet bonding experience and a perfect activity for quality time with someone you love. I highly recommend Plushumi and would absolutely return. read more

Went to Plushumi to celebrate our friend's birthday. I made a build a bear for my girlfriend years ago before and this experience was much more hands on and very customizable. You pick the color and what kind of animal you'd like from their sets. Whole experience was about 2 hours. The process was straightforward and simple with some sewing parts but the staff are friendly and accommodating to help you out. Christina was very helpful! Overall great experience and you leave with a new friend! I ended up doing a Beige dog. The add ons are the items your animal could appear to be holding. Those are additional. read more

Really cute date idea! Super friendly workers. The class is 2 hours long but only took us less than 1.5 hours. It was $68 for each plushie without the accessories. The accessories range from $10-18. I believe the strawberry was about $15 & the LA hat was $18. read more

Finding this place was pretty easy! I saw lots of instagram reels about this place and decided to give it a try when I went down to LA. I was a bit disappointed and I am removing a star because they stopped me from continuing to make my plush even though I still had yarn left. I went with a friend and they allowed the friend to continue past the point I was stopped at, so our plushies came out different sizes. I will say, paying for this experience then getting a plush that is smaller than what is on their wall display is a bit disappointing as it feels like I did not get what I paid for. Also keep in mind, any accessories you see cost extra and you do not get to make them yourself. You also need to go early enough in the day because they may run out of pre-made accessories. Overall, it was still fun to do and I would do it again. I just hope that they allow customers to make their plushies the same size as what they advertise on the wall. read more

Love that you can make your own plushie! You would need to reserve the date, time and what plushie you would like to make online. It cost about $75 for each person to make one and accessories are additional on the day you make it. The workers help you during every stage on making the plushie. If something is wrong they are nice and help you. The process took about 2.5 hours from start to finish. It is very expensive for a plushie but a great experience to do once. read more

I booked this experience for Valentine's Day and it did not disappoint. Totally a unique experience and you get to learn so much about how to make stuffed animals/plushies. I ended up marking a purple dino and the whole experience took about 2 hours like stated. The employees are so friendly and helped up through all the step even doing any steps that were difficult. She taught us how to use the throwing wheel table thing and how to form the clay into a bowl. Handling clay on a wheel was much harder than how it seems in those sped up videos you see on social media. You have to use a good amount of strength to stabilize your arm, and you have to work steadily despite the wheel moving quickly. It was a good experience, especially after discovering a typical beginners throwing class takes about 6 weeks when we only had an hour. After making the bowls, we waited about 4 weeks for Green & Bisque to finish glazing and firing our bowls before we picked it up. It's definitely a worthwhile experience if you enjoy working with your hands or crafting!

Today, I picked up my son and Ms. Billy complained about his projects and all kinds of stuff right in front of my son. My son came to the car crying feeling terrible about his artwork. I asked him several questions about what happened as I didn't want to make any rash judgements about the teacher. He explained that he felt that Ms. Billie was being mean to him and that he was really struggling with clay (it's a new skill for him). I asked if she helps him with his clay a little extra since he's obviously struggling more than the rest of the more experienced students (I'd think she'd spend a little extra time with him). He said no - she was drinking tea and when she came back he had made a snail project where its tongue broke off and couldn't put it back on. He said he destroyed it and my son said she made another mean comment to him: "ohh so you're breaking stuff, instead of making stuff". He was struggling to put on the tongue, which you didn't help him with. Ms. Billy told me it was Gary the snail which didn't go with the CA theme they're working on. Ok. My question is: how is one of your struggling students able to make an entire snail project without you noticing until he's that far along with it? Then, the tongue falls ogf of it, you make a comment to him about it being wrong, he destroys it, you make another comment to him about him about breaking things instead of making things. Ok. If she's going to drink tea instead of helping struggling students then she shouldn't be surprised about them struggling. He said she was helping the other students - not him so much. He also said he got up to grab a toothpick, and she said to him "you're disrupting the entire class" and he was embarrassed that all the kids stared at him. He wasn't being defiant but she keeps treating him as if he is. My son said he was really surprised at how mean Ms. Billy was treating him - he genuinely didn't know he was doing anything wrong, She did sound agitated when she was complaining to me about my son. I know my son - he's not a bad kid and he's super kind. I'm not just saying that because he's my son. He truly is. I'm the type of person that takes criticism well and I'm happy to help correct behavior when necessary. In this case, I really feel that Ms. Billy is not spending enough time with struggling students - in my sons case not understanding instructions according to her. I didn't appreciate her putting my son down in front of both my husband and I. Ms. Billy made it sound as if my son was being defiant - I can assure you my son is not defiant - he genuinely is just having a hard time with the project! He's asking for help from his teacher in his own 8 year old way. He just turned 8 by the way. Mrs. Elizabeth in the front is amazing on the other hand! Very helpful and kind lady.

The original price is $176. You have to call to schedule the classes with her. The owner was a sweet lady named Yuko. She said doesn't allow parents to stay so I just dropped my kids off and went to run errands. I came back to pick them up and was surprised to find that they made such amazing art pieces! The nicest I've ever seen them do. I'm not sure how much help they got but they said that they did it themselves with some guidance I'm sure. I'm happy with their artwork and want to actually frame and put them up on the wall. I enjoyed my 90 mins of free time and was so glad that they had a good time and even wanted to return. When it was a bit difficult for my younger one, Debbie scaffolded the entire thing and made it possible for her to learn, feel successful, and feel like part of the group. We have also tried the finger knitting blanket class and now my 4th grader can make gorgeous blankets for friends and family. The sewing classes for 8+ are incredible. My eldest has loved going in to learn how to make tote bags, pillow cases, and a variety of other sewing projects. They also have camps, which we are eager to try someday. Most recently we hosted a very special birthday party here and I can share that it was incredible, lovely, and probably the most present I've ever been able to be at one of my kid's birthday parties, considering Debbie took on most of the labor! 11 children made pillows together, along with adorable rainbow keychains and they really had a blast. I was so impressed to see my little one sewing away on the machine with her dad next to her and the older kids jump right in. Many of them made 2-3 little pillows, even though they had never sewn before! Debbie's instruction is clear, easy to follow, and she has a great deal of patience while sharing how to create these masterpieces. It was really nice having mochi ice cream in the middle table area too- Debbie had everything needed for a party in case things were forgotten. The little fridge helped too! It was very reasonably priced and an unforgettable experience for the kids. We hope Meraki will be on this cute corner for many years to come!

Remember that many public pools across U.S. cities were backfilled with concrete rather than…read moreallowing people of color to swim with the white man during the 1960s and 1970s. That itself gives this historic structure a miraculous feel because it survived desegregation in an apartheid state that still tries to hide/deny its ugly white supremacism. Nonetheless, the racist, capitalist model of diminishing public infrastructure because they provide benefit to non-whites equally, prevails. The changing rooms are a shambles. Ironically, in many poorer nations where I have used municipal pools, they have smarter, more updated locker rooms. (This reveals the character of what passes for national culture.) Enough now with the disparagement and let's pivot to this historic pool. The length is perhaps Olympic size but the deep end of the pool is in the middle. It's cordoned off into three sections across, allowing a lap swimmer to benefit from the deepest central third, although it is not a full 25 yards across. The water is much clearer than in Glassell Park and perhaps it's because it is not as heavily used? I found there's a solid jet stream of pumped water underneath leading to a kind of "rip tide" effect in the pool. You have to work harder to get across because of the undercurrent. It's quite enjoyable. The lack of trees around this pool makes the sun feel harsh, but the nearby Gold line train gives it a feeling of being part of a vibrant metro region. As well I was smelling street tacos from a nearby truck, very aromatic I was delighted to find this pool during one of the extended brutal heat waves of triple digit temperatures that are commonplace now thanks to climate change. However, consistent with the history of white colonizers being callous about the welfare of non-white citizens, and overriding the unique realities of western geography in favor of conformity with norms from the northeast, the City of LA Parks and Recreation department feels the need to shut down pools like this one during LA's *hottest months* of September and October. In other words, yes, the City of LA would rather people of this area suffer the heat than keep this pool open to allow for some respite for vulnerable human bodies. LA's hottest months are always September and October. City of LA Parks and Recreation: We don't care. Finally, note there is limited parking in a lot which exits into a mega-dip in the street side curb that will crack most sedans' chassis... Call 818-804-7570 about hours.

He loved the variety of activities and made so many new friends. He came home with fun stories each day. I loved that they offered a variety of options from 2 days/week to 5 days. We returned last summer and an unexpected and sudden medical event threw our summer for a loop. They were beyond kind and accommodating. Michael, the owner, personally made sure we were taken care of at a very scary time and was just incredibly kind and communicative. I can't thank him and his staff enough for the support. I would recommend this camp for any family. Its like a classic, old-school summer day camp experience!

My son attended Adventurewood camp for the first time this week. For the most part he enjoyed…read morehimself -- particularly the characters they introduce throughout the week. However, we decided to pull him out for next week because of a very disturbing situation. He shared that a counselor had pushed him with both hands on his shoulders during a capture the flag activity. He had dropped his flag and was putting it back on when a counselor (he didn't know her name) pushed him back hard enough to make him lose his balance and fall. She also barked "you need to reset!" She didn't ask if he was ok or help him up. You'd think if this was an accidental push and he fell over she would say something like "sorry bud are you ok? Here let me help you up" but nope, not a word. A friend he's attending camp with witnessed the whole incident. Since I pick them both up in the afternoons they both recounted this situation to me and both of them noted how inappropriate her behavior was. I immediately reached out to Michael, the owner of the camp. He said he wanted to identify this counselor and get her side of the story. Understandable. My son felt uncomfortable going back the next day but I reassured him it would be handled and offered to drop him off in the morning and stick around to talk to Michael and the counselor. I wanted him to feel safe. Michael identified her (her name is Carson) and said he wanted to talk to her first, which he did a few feet away from me. I heard her say she didn't push him. They then walked over to me and she again denied everything. So we asked both kids to come over and recount what happened. They both did -- in front of her -- and reiterated she pushed him. She denied even touching him. So Michael suggests at this point that perhaps it was an accident and my son responds by saying "how do you push someone like that by accident?!" No response. So I ask her, are you saying these kids are lying? She again said she didn't touch him and at this point we send the kids away. I'm incensed because not only does she gaslight both of them to their face but tells this bold faced lie to her boss in front of the campers and me. I tell her I believe them and I think she's the one lying. At this point she gives me this dirty look - angry, irritated and almost rolls her eyes at me. I turn to Michael and say "and now she's giving ME an attitude?!" Unbelievable. In a follow up call, he tells me how good of a person she is and that this is shocking for him to hear but that she doesn't seem like someone who would do something like this...that she's getting her teacher credentials and he knows her really well. I am getting the vibe he doesn't actually believe any of this and he sounds very skeptical. I respond by telling him that it's almost always surprising when people exhibit bad behavior and that even teachers do bad things...that doesn't make her any more credible in my eyes. He acknowledged that. In fact, it's worse because I would be really concerned to have someone like that teaching a kid. Lack of empathy, accountability, and integrity. I mean, I think it's great he's trying to have her back but there are moments in life when you need to draw a line and act swiftly...these are one of those moments. Because ultimately, this impacts the reputation of your camp. I told him that it would be good to offer training to his staff in case this ever happens again in the future and honestly he sounded baffled and asked me to clarify...I said well maybe tell your staff not to give dirty looks to a mom who's clearly upset that her son just got pushed by a grown adult at summer camp?? I told him that the response to this situation could've resulted in a totally different outcome. Had she said something like "I really don't recall pushing you but if I inadvertently did and made you feel bad I'm sorry - I didn't mean to do that" - I would've went home that morning feeling fine about the situation. When I told him this he said that he's not going to police all her reactions, that she's still young, that she's still learning and made all kinds of excuses for her. Exhausting. Apparently she got a "warning" and will sit out of the flag activity (umm, ok...). He seems like a smart guy and wish him nothing but success in the future and I was earnestly trying to offer advice for how to handle a situation like this better but it fell on deaf ears. I really hope that some kind of learning comes out of this for both of them. Oh and to top it off, my son's friend told her mom that Carson was giving her looks several times throughout the day today and when she asked what kind she said "side eye" looks. NOT COOL. My son also said she was kind of mean to him but wondering why they were even in close proximity when Michael said they'd absolutely be separated and would not see each other? Validates we both made the right choice by pulling them both out. He offered a refund but I'm still pissed about the situation.
