My sister and I had been gifted a 1 hour private session with Green & Bisque. Neither of us had any experience with pottery, but our instructor, Kim, was very helpful and patient with us! She taught us how to use the throwing wheel table thing and how to form the clay into a bowl. Handling clay on a wheel was much harder than how it seems in those sped up videos you see on social media. You have to use a good amount of strength to stabilize your arm, and you have to work steadily despite the wheel moving quickly. It was a good experience, especially after discovering a typical beginners throwing class takes about 6 weeks when we only had an hour. After making the bowls, we waited about 4 weeks for Green & Bisque to finish glazing and firing our bowls before we picked it up. It's definitely a worthwhile experience if you enjoy working with your hands or crafting! read more

One of my friends wanted to celebrate her birthday here at Green & Bisque and this was one of the most unique bday events I've been to & probably my favorite :D There were around 20ish of us and we each paid $70 and made 2 things. They split it up into two classes - a free style class and a class where you use the wheel! I absolutely loved that this was my first pottery class and the instructors here really want to make sure you leave feeling satisfied with what you made. We were here from 5-7:30PM & they allowed alcy xD so we were buzzin & making cute pottery !! Make sure you bring clothes you don't rly care for because you WILL get dirty (but cleaning the clay is saur easy to clean so isssok). If I could give her a 10000/10 rating I would !!! taking a pottery class at green & bisque is a great way to get your hands dirty! the pottery studio is located in pasadena and has its own small parking lot and large space inside! the studio is clean and modern and has lots of space for wheel throwing and hand-building. in the 2 hour wheel throwing classes they offer called "wheel weekdays", an instructor guides you step by step how to throw a piece and offers help to all students through the process. at the end, you can end up with 2 pieces that you leave at the studio for them to glaze and fire with the color of your choosing and come back to pick up the finished pieces about a month or two after your class. the whole process was so fun and therapeutic and all of the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. I wanted to take Jose Mariscal Paneque's workshops, and I'm so glad he decided to visit CA. It was a choice between Pasadena and DTLA, and I didn't want to deal with DTLA traffic. I'm so glad I chose Pasadena, because I got a chance to meet a bunch of really nice people at GB Clayhouse. The staff at GB were super helpful and made me felt like I've been a regular attendee since day one. To name a few: Zach, Ben, Bridgette, Kim, and a few others made the workshops run so efficiently. They were always quick to assist, not only Jose, but also us students. Ben was super nice to even show me around the studio with all the other things they offer like group/personal raku, reduction, and oxidation firings; membership details, etc. The prices were super competitive and the staff were really knowledgeable, so there's comfort in knowing your pieces would be well taken care of. Even though my drive from OC was an hour and a half each way, I looked forward to GB each morning to say hi to everyone, and also walk into such a clean and well built studio. If I didn't live so far, I would totally become a member even though I have a mini studio in my garage. However, I will be keeping an eye out for additional workshops they'll be hosting. Hopefully, I'll get to work in this studio again! read more

I planned a private bachelorette party for 8 people here and it was a really fun time! While you now have to supply your own food/decorations, they did have a really huge space for us to spread everything out. Planning was pretty easy and I worked with Janisse over email to make it happen Our instructor Zac gave us an option of throwing clay to either make a vase (hard) or a bowl (easy) but we were able to make two pieces so some of my friends ended up making both. We were given a lot of guidance and, while I won't say I made any masterpieces, I did make a lot of memories with my friends here. I do wish there was more time to "hang out" between throwing to take advantage of the event space but I guess you could always do that before or after. My friend and I signed up for a class called wheel Wednesday! It was $80 for 2 hours ( not bad In my opinion) , it was easy to sign up BUT classes get filled pretty fast so keep that in mind ! And They also offer classes on Mondays. It was a little difficult to hear but also see Instructions but they had a person there to walk around to guide and help you while creating your bowl! After the class you're allowed to choose a glaze color and after that your bowl is ready in 6-8 weeks! They email and call you to let you know whenever it's ready! I think it's great for dates, as a hobby , or you want to pick up a new skill! You get to meet and talk to people around you but I was shy so I kept it real short for the person to me LOL . It's taken a week or so for me to "sleep on it" in reference to how the employee in the G&B store treated me, and I was going to just "let this go," but after discussing with another ceramicist today, I was encouraged to write a review. In retrospect, I should have challenged how the employee was speaking to me at the time, although I think I was in shock. I also realize that I was overly calm and nice, as if I was dealing with a troubled person, and maybe that was my way of trying to deal with the experience. The employee was condescending, rude, and belittled me as soon as I walked in. I was in shock with his interactions as his tone was "super mean and aggressive" when he responded to my basic questions, and again, when I left, I had to continue asking myself if that really happened. He raised his voice towards me when I asked a simple question about payment and if they gave student discounts (he kept saying "who told you that....what is their name..." in a harsh, accusatory manner), and when asking whether or not there were various items in stock, he belittled me with his words and tone, indicating that I must be stupid to not know his answers. I was floored. I've only had one positive experience when purchasing items at G&B, and the few other times were not rude, but not friendly either. But this time was beyond anything I've experienced in retail in decades. Bummer because G&B is local. Other ceramicists are saying to also check out local Blue Rooster on Colorado for supplies and a friendly staff. Will definitely check that out! read more

This is the best pottery studio in SoCal! From the staff, facility, to service & care this place just surpasses any other pottery studio I've ever been to. We arranged a galentine's / birthday celebration for our cousins here, Janisse was so sweet, patient and caring to answering our questions and helping us with the event coordination. We were beyond impressed with the level of instruction from our instructor, matt! He's the absolute best, so patient and kind!! I've had many instructors before but Matt has been the first and only one to have been very attentive, caring to all the students and did an amazing job helping guide us through how to make pottery!! An absolute star. The glaze options are so beautiful. Matt showed us around the studio after class and we got to see some of the members & their work, who are just as amazing as the work that they create in the studio. This is the best studio I've ever been to and think it's the best studio in SoCal. You guys are doing the lords work is all I gotta say! I bought a series of classes for my mom who has dementia. Ben was incredibly understanding and secured Christian for her classes, who was an absolute prince. Even though my mom has decided she isn't interested in continuing, I couldn't be happier with how they treated her through these five weeks. We can't say enough good things about these folks! My team and I had a private lesson at G&B to learn more about the spot before their grand-reopening this past December, and man, was it fun. We made vases that weren't top-notch, but hey we did our best! However, at the end of the day: the important part was that we got to be in the presence of wonderful people and made something with our own hands. The space is relaxing and all the tools became effortless with our instructor, Kim at the class's helm. We've been kicking ourselves for not getting back there for another class, but we know we'll be back in due time. The grand re-opening event they hosted was also packed with TONS of joy, laughter and beautiful people and ceramic art. Not to mention there was a traditional, Chinese New Year Dragon Dance too! I took a makers Monday class to create a mug. The class was easy to follow and they provided everything you need to make and customize your mug. The teacher was welcoming and friendly. It's really easy to register for the class online. They email you when your mugs ready to be picked up. I love that they offer classes like this for people who are interested in trying their hand at clay but don't want to commit to several weeks long course just yet. It's really unfortunate that this is the only pottery studio in the area. I think the studio has the potential to be a great place but the lack of friendliness is a huge turn off. People there are extremely unfriendly and there is no sense of community. The layout of the studio was also pretty choppy and someone barked at me for using the wrong sink. I am a beginner so I wish people would be a little kinder. Parking is also difficult if you can't snag a spot in the lot. read more

My husband recently went in and wanted to pay for a class or classes to build what he wanted. He spoke to Julia and she explained he would not have the experience to do this. He explained he is a designer and worked as a automotive modeler for over 20 years. (Which means he sculpted full scale vehicles in clay!). He also graduated from Art Center with an automative design degree. Julia was dismissive of his background and education and stood by her uninformed opinion he couldn't make a simple pot to use as a hose holder. They lost a customer. My husband has been wanting to get back into clay sculpting for just the joy of it, but he will find a place more welcoming. read more

If I could give this place above 5 stars I would. My daughter turned 12 and wanted a real pottery experience, not the pick a shape paint and go. I found this place and from the beginning inquiry email with Janisse, to Matt as the lead instructor, to the end of her party, nothing but pure professionalism. Having 3 children I have had multiple birthday celebrations, this one by far was tops, I was absolutely impressed. Matt and the additional staff/helpers gave clear step by step instructions with such patience. They went around to each child and helped as needed, still giving room for the child to create their own creation. This was a real experience that they will remember, and I want to especially thank everyone for their contribution to lifelong memories. read more

This place ROCKS! It has a wide range of classes from the beginner to the expert; there is always something to learn no matter your experience! I've been a member of this studio when Xiem and now as Green & Bisque, and the obvious improvements and the subtle ones show the new owner (Bridget) really cares about the arts. I took 2 classes towards the end of 2020 that was empowering: hand-building and Beginner wheel throwing. Even though I know how to through, I need to get back to the basics. Charlie was my teacher for the wheel, and he was encouraging and suggested ideas without insisting you do it his way! Janisse taught hand building, and she gave me the confidence that I can step out of my comfort zone and create! I plan on taking intermediate wheel throwing in 2021. Had a class a couple of weeks ago with my co workers and the boss at Green and Bisque. Our instructor was Julia and she was really sweet and patient. For beginners like me that never took a class like this I was really really nervous but Julia made everything seem so calm and easy. You just gotta get in that clay and work it. Although I have taken two classes with kind and knowledgeable instructors, today I met Nancy at the front desk, who was simply rude and unclear. When I asked her why she felt the need to speak to me in the manner, she didn't apologize nor did she show remorse. Took a 6 week beginner course here. The instructor was great, friendly, and helpful. If you want to get the best experience, you should watch some online tutorials beforehand. There's a lot of different techniques that differ from what the instructor may use that you might like more. There are some things that could be improved. There was last minute notice that we would need to bring our own tools. They emailed us a day before the first class. The tool set that they were selling at their store is a bit overpriced. If we were given notice in advance for what we needed, I would've bought my own tools elsewhere. The studio itself looks nice, but there's a lot of mosquitos and you will get bit. There's also a lot in the parking lot... The studio is a bit disorganized especially when you fire your clay pieces because it's difficult to find your finished piece on all the shelves. Some pieces are inside others or blocked by others. I was not able to find some pieces which is disappointing when you've spent your time working on them. Another thing is that the glaze samples were not accurate... or at least the one I chose. The glaze sample shows what it'll look like after 1 or 2 coats, but applying only one coat of glaze was noticeably more thin than the sample. It was speckled in an unappealing way. I recommend that you just dip your piece twice in when using matte white glaze. The selections of glazes is nice though. read more

My family and I had a blast learning how to throw clay here. Jotham was our instructor and he was fantastic! The owner is also very nice! Jotham went through a demonstration on how to make each piece before letting us loose. He was very informative and everyone did great. It can be a little intimidating trying something new or being creative when it's not something you do regularly, but Jotham made it so much fun and totally eased those concerns. This would be a great place for a private party or to celebrate a special occasion. I highly recommend! read more

Today was my first time here. My husband got me a gift certificate (bonus for the company doing this) for us to throw clay on the wheel for the first time ever. We did a private session and WOW was it fun!! We are both 40 something yr old newbies and never once felt bad for the multitude of mistakes we made. Our instructor, Janisse was awesome, she was very thorough in explaining and hands on when needed, which was very much appreciated. We cracked some jokes, made some unique bowls and all around had the best time. I will now be bringing my mom. Thank you for a great time. It was the best when it was Xiem and now that it's under new management, and better than ever, it's still of course the best studio in town. I've been a part of many member studios and community college classes and the facilities at this studio are top notch. We had a private group session with Jotham Hung. He was very knowledgeable and encouraging to work with. The facility was very welcoming and the staff was extremely friendly. Social distancing and face masks were practiced by everyone. Our group was family and friends with no experience.
