taking a pottery class at green & bisque is a great way to get your hands dirty! the pottery studio is located in pasadena and has its own small parking lot and large space inside! the studio is clean and modern and has lots of space for wheel throwing and hand-building. in the 2 hour wheel throwing classes they offer called "wheel weekdays", an instructor guides you step by step how to throw a piece and offers help to all students through the process. at the end, you can end up with 2 pieces that you leave at the studio for them to glaze and fire with the color of your choosing and come back to pick up the finished pieces about a month or two after your class. the whole process was so fun and therapeutic and all of the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. I definitely recommend taking a pottery class with your friends or family for a fun and unique activity!

The master himself, Jose Mariscal Paneque

I wanted to take Jose Mariscal Paneque's workshops, and I'm so glad he decided to visit CA. It was a choice between Pasadena and DTLA, and I didn't want to deal with DTLA traffic. I'm so glad I chose Pasadena, because I got a chance to meet a bunch of really nice people at GB Clayhouse. The staff at GB were super helpful and made me felt like I've been a regular attendee since day one. To name a few: Zach, Ben, Bridgette, Kim, and a few others made the workshops run so efficiently. They were always quick to assist, not only Jose, but also us students. Ben was super nice to even show me around the studio with all the other things they offer like group/personal raku, reduction, and oxidation firings; membership details, etc. The prices were super competitive and the staff were really knowledgeable, so there's comfort in knowing your pieces would be well taken care of. Even though my drive from OC was an hour and a half each way, I looked forward to GB each morning to say hi to everyone, and also walk into such a clean and well built studio. If I didn't live so far, I would totally become a member even though I have a mini studio in my garage. However, I will be keeping an eye out for additional workshops they'll be hosting. Hopefully, I'll get to work in this studio again!

Finished bowls - ready to be glazed!

Took a class on their Wheel Wednesday which was a great intro to pottery, using the wheel, and instruction on how to make a bowl. Our instructor was great and I'm so happy with my finished piece! Note: our clothes got clay on them but it washed out just fine Will definitely be back!

Decorated party area (decorations and food were self-provided)

I planned a private bachelorette party for 8 people here and it was a really fun time! While you now have to supply your own food/decorations, they did have a really huge space for us to spread everything out. Planning was pretty easy and I worked with Janisse over email to make it happen Our instructor Zac gave us an option of throwing clay to either make a vase (hard) or a bowl (easy) but we were able to make two pieces so some of my friends ended up making both. We were given a lot of guidance and, while I won't say I made any masterpieces, I did make a lot of memories with my friends here. I do wish there was more time to "hang out" between throwing to take advantage of the event space but I guess you could always do that before or after. Small parking lot in the front, enough to fit your whole party.

My friend and I signed up for a class called wheel Wednesday! It was $80 for 2 hours ( not bad In my opinion) , it was easy to sign up BUT classes get filled pretty fast so keep that in mind ! And They also offer classes on Mondays. It was a little difficult to hear but also see Instructions but they had a person there to walk around to guide and help you while creating your bowl! After the class you're allowed to choose a glaze color and after that your bowl is ready in 6-8 weeks! They email and call you to let you know whenever it's ready! I think it's great for dates, as a hobby , or you want to pick up a new skill! You get to meet and talk to people around you but I was shy so I kept it real short for the person to me LOL . But over 10/10! And would do again !

This is the best pottery studio in SoCal! From the staff, facility, to service & care this place just surpasses any other pottery studio I've ever been to. We arranged a galentine's / birthday celebration for our cousins here, Janisse was so sweet, patient and caring to answering our questions and helping us with the event coordination. We were beyond impressed with the level of instruction from our instructor, matt! He's the absolute best, so patient and kind!! I've had many instructors before but Matt has been the first and only one to have been very attentive, caring to all the students and did an amazing job helping guide us through how to make pottery!! An absolute star. The glaze options are so beautiful. Matt showed us around the studio after class and we got to see some of the members & their work, who are just as amazing as the work that they create in the studio. This is the best studio I've ever been to and think it's the best studio in SoCal. You guys are doing the lords work is all I gotta say! Will continue to keep coming back, you guys are the best!!!

The G&B and CCB crews together with out ceramics projects!

We can't say enough good things about these folks! My team and I had a private lesson at G&B to learn more about the spot before their grand-reopening this past December, and man, was it fun. We made vases that weren't top-notch, but hey we did our best! However, at the end of the day: the important part was that we got to be in the presence of wonderful people and made something with our own hands. The space is relaxing and all the tools became effortless with our instructor, Kim at the class's helm. We've been kicking ourselves for not getting back there for another class, but we know we'll be back in due time. The grand re-opening event they hosted was also packed with TONS of joy, laughter and beautiful people and ceramic art. Not to mention there was a traditional, Chinese New Year Dragon Dance too! Bridgette and her crew sure know how to throw a party. We love you all, G&B. Thank you for your amazing hard work, dedication and love for this craft. We can't wait to see where your adventure goes! -The CCB Team

If I could give this place above 5 stars I would. My daughter turned 12 and wanted a real pottery experience, not the pick a shape paint and go. I found this place and from the beginning inquiry email with Janisse, to Matt as the lead instructor, to the end of her party, nothing but pure professionalism. Having 3 children I have had multiple birthday celebrations, this one by far was tops, I was absolutely impressed. Matt and the additional staff/helpers gave clear step by step instructions with such patience. They went around to each child and helped as needed, still giving room for the child to create their own creation. This was a real experience that they will remember, and I want to especially thank everyone for their contribution to lifelong memories.

I just couldn't stop throwing!

This place ROCKS! It has a wide range of classes from the beginner to the expert; there is always something to learn no matter your experience! I've been a member of this studio when Xiem and now as Green & Bisque, and the obvious improvements and the subtle ones show the new owner (Bridget) really cares about the arts. I took 2 classes towards the end of 2020 that was empowering: hand-building and Beginner wheel throwing. Even though I know how to through, I need to get back to the basics. Charlie was my teacher for the wheel, and he was encouraging and suggested ideas without insisting you do it his way! Janisse taught hand building, and she gave me the confidence that I can step out of my comfort zone and create! I plan on taking intermediate wheel throwing in 2021. I love this studio and all the great people who work there AND all the members and students! Great vibes!!

Do they offer single classes or only packaged?

They do have one-off private lessons. Totally worth it

Do you have to take classes or can you solo? I've already taken college classes and just want to work alone.

She was thoughtful and showed up early so we could use the kitchen and bar area to set up our appetizers and drinks. She set up the art stations while we drank and ate. Later she lead the class while also taking candid photos of our group. She took her time explaining the process and checking in to make sure we were all following along. Aja was fun and entertaining. She took various groups shots always paying great attention to detail. This was a wonderful experience and I would absolutely book again. We were the only party at the time, she laid out all the art to choose from. The space was clean and large enough to accommodate my 10 group and plenty of space to walk around. There were couches and kitchen area with a small refrigerator. Overall the space was a 10. Experience a 10. And instruction a 10.

Once we saw her in person, we instantly remembered her. The space where she hosted was spacious, clean and large enough to accommodate a larger crowd if needed. We were a group of four. She has such a calm demeanor and so much patience with kid and adults. I would highly recommend her. Her love of art and experience with kids is so amazing!

I have to say I'm disappointed in Ms Billy. Initially she seemed like a great teacher - as my son…read morehad positive feedback and seemed to enjoy the class. Gradually my son would come home sad and upset. At first, I brushed off his complaints as maybe he just had a random rough day. Today, I picked up my son and Ms. Billy complained about his projects and all kinds of stuff right in front of my son. My son came to the car crying feeling terrible about his artwork. I asked him several questions about what happened as I didn't want to make any rash judgements about the teacher. He explained that he felt that Ms. Billie was being mean to him and that he was really struggling with clay (it's a new skill for him). I asked if she helps him with his clay a little extra since he's obviously struggling more than the rest of the more experienced students (I'd think she'd spend a little extra time with him). He said no - she was drinking tea and when she came back he had made a snail project where its tongue broke off and couldn't put it back on. He said he destroyed it and my son said she made another mean comment to him: "ohh so you're breaking stuff, instead of making stuff". He was struggling to put on the tongue, which you didn't help him with. Ms. Billy told me it was Gary the snail which didn't go with the CA theme they're working on. Ok. My question is: how is one of your struggling students able to make an entire snail project without you noticing until he's that far along with it? Then, the tongue falls ogf of it, you make a comment to him about it being wrong, he destroys it, you make another comment to him about him about breaking things instead of making things. Ok. If she's going to drink tea instead of helping struggling students then she shouldn't be surprised about them struggling. He said she was helping the other students - not him so much. He also said he got up to grab a toothpick, and she said to him "you're disrupting the entire class" and he was embarrassed that all the kids stared at him. He wasn't being defiant but she keeps treating him as if he is. My son said he was really surprised at how mean Ms. Billy was treating him - he genuinely didn't know he was doing anything wrong, She did sound agitated when she was complaining to me about my son. I know my son - he's not a bad kid and he's super kind. I'm not just saying that because he's my son. He truly is. I'm the type of person that takes criticism well and I'm happy to help correct behavior when necessary. In this case, I really feel that Ms. Billy is not spending enough time with struggling students - in my sons case not understanding instructions according to her. I didn't appreciate her putting my son down in front of both my husband and I. Ms. Billy made it sound as if my son was being defiant - I can assure you my son is not defiant - he genuinely is just having a hard time with the project! He's asking for help from his teacher in his own 8 year old way. He just turned 8 by the way. Mrs. Elizabeth in the front is amazing on the other hand! Very helpful and kind lady.

My children love the classes and camps at Art/Work/Place- it's always a good sign when I try to…read morepick them up after a full day of camp but they wish they could stay and keep playing! The teachers here are incredible and create such a warm environment and sense of safety where children create and learn to their full capacities. I appreciate Ruby Hannan, Anayantzin Sanchez, and Billie Frolov who have all guided our kids in various classes & camps including Claymation, Make Your Own Stuffie, Mini Makers, and Youth Lessons. We've also been to some cool events here for children, our favorite being when they invited the animators from the new Ninja Turtles movie/Mitchell's Vs. the Machines to come talk to the students and show them people can become animators when they grow up! Truly an inspiring place where children come to explore and create their own art. So thankful to have found this studio! *also editing my review to add that I specialize in a field of child development & communication; I respectfully disagree with the parents below who claim this place is merely a bunch of babysitters or that their children didn't learn anything during their time here. I've been so impressed the way the educators here scaffold the summer camp in a way that the older kids are making Claymation videos or sewing stuffies alongside the younger ones. No one is so frustrated that they can't participate and at the same time these kids are challenged!! My children had increases in their artistic abilities, social skills, vocabulary, fine motor skills, ability to use technology to create art, and I would go so far as to say even their overall self esteem, as the final art show is truly a special time for families to come together and celebrate what these children have created with the guidance of some awesome instructors. Sorry, but I could go on! The only time I've ever seen the tv on at Art/Work/Place was during the gorgeous, hilarious, magical Claymation Camp viewing party a year ago and the time the Ninja Turtles animators used it to show us some clips from a movie they made. Again, context matters.... Let your kids give them a try and decide for yourself :)
