We hired this escape room company for a fifth grade party, and it was AMAZING! The owner came out and set up two different escape rooms for the kids and they were both perfect for their age. The puzzles were super fun and just challenging enough to keep them completely engaged without being frustrating. You could tell a lot of thought and effort went into making it age-appropriate, and the kids were absolutely hooked from start to finish. I got the opportunity to experience an escape room experience for the first time for my bachelor party that my friend/best man organized. It was a surprise to me as I was not told anything before we met up with the others in our group at our initial location at the Plaza West Covina mall. I got really into the real world game experience and highly enjoyed the teamwork and communication involved. Mike put on a 13th birthday party for my daughter. It was a Grimm's fairy tale theme which was so perfect for the girls. I didn't even have to ask-- he knew what that age group would like! We had these guys come out to our church and create a whole escape room with our facility. We gave them a tour of the places available for use and they did their thing. They were able to finish in about an hour and a half. I really like how patient these guys were and how they were able to go with the flow. Above all else, the passion of these guys is awesome. We contacted Surreal Escape to plan a game for our son's 15th birthday and asked if they had a "Stranger Things" theme. They'd never done it before, but were excited to create it. Mike stayed in touch throughout the planning process and the game was AMAZING! He came to our house and set up while the kids had dinner, and he was so sneaky, they never noticed it happening :) The kids had so much fun solving the puzzles, which were just the right level of difficulty, and interacting with all the different elements - from encyclopedias to cassette tapes and walkie-talkies and a truly scary basement installation. We did the Run Amok game at the Paseo Pasadena on a recent Friday afternoon. We had 11 "older" adults in our group. We were celebrating a 60th birthday. As a group we had done one escape room and I had done two others with other groups. This experience was very much like an escape room, but used the mall as its location. Some had expected it to be a scavenger hunt type of game, but it did seem very much like escape room clues (things that you had to decipher and not just find). We were given a set of items and told we had to find a number of tokens. One of the items gave us an obvious location and that is where we started. We had a little trouble once we arrived at the spot, but Mike was observing us from afar and would text us hints. Eventually we got on track and got thru the rest of the clues. Mike was generous with hints (maybe a little overly so, but that is a fine line) and encouragements along the way and that kept us at a pace that kept everyone engaged. We also met up with Mike at a couple of spots along the way where he would give us a token or a personal encouragement. The feedback I received from everyone was that they enjoyed the experience. I think more so than the escape room we had done together, where some people didn't stay engaged the whole time. I think the element of moving around the mall added more fun to the game, sometimes in a room when you get stuck it gets very frustrating. I would highly recommend the Run Amok game. Apparently they can also set up games at other locations so that might be interesting to do. read more

Honestly, we didn't know what to expect and were quite nervous because it wasn't an escape room but we had so much fun deciphering the clues and riddles. It was definitely challenging. We almost didn't get the last token but we pulled together as a team and conquered the scavenger hunt with only 48 seconds to spare!
