We stopped by last night for dinner. The food was terrible!!! Is was so salty we could barely finish the 2 smash burgers we ordered ( it got so distasteful we didn't finish). No other burger choices. No physical menu option. To top it off, when I returned home I became bloated with an upset stomach. After all of that it was $73 for an un-Pleasant experience. We will never return & will tell 5 of our local friends our experience & each of them will tell 5 more & on & on. The food was better when it was the local dive & pool hall. This place is consistently good!! We've been going there for a while now. We really loved their family style meals during the quarantine! Their summer lobster rolls were huge and easily in my top five lobster rolls. Their smash Burger is also insanely good! I miss their French fries but their chips are tasty. The service is fantastic. I'm uncertain why we had two waitresses-- no explanation was offered, but neither one said too much and never smiled. Arrive, park out front, inside are a few tables occupied, quiet for a Saturday, but thats fine. We are seated and have cold beers pretty quickly, Paul, our waiter was great. Looking around, it's clean, and inviting, it seems recently updated. The menu is limited, apps, sandwiches and burgers, only 2 main meals, steak tips and mac&cheese and a daily special. I actually don't mind this at all, do a few things well instead of a lot of things just OK. We got wings for an app. They were big, juicy, cooked perfectly. I got the breakfast burger and hubby got the tips. Sides were fries and onion rings. The burger was fantastic! Cooked perfectly medium rare, crispy bacon, yummy! Onion strings were fantastic too. So here was the only downpoint, the tips, were not as good. They were small pieces so they couldn't be cooked medium rare. The meat wan't that tasty. Invest in better, bigger tips and charge a little more, it will be worth it! The fries and sweet potato fries were cooked perfect! $5 burgers on Mondays are a great deal. My wife and myself both had cheeseburgers that we both agreed were terrific. It was a weeknight at 6 o'clock so the place was pretty quiet and laid back. I liked that. The onion strings appetizer was good enough to not last long. The bartender did a nice job on my seabreze. We enjoyed ourselves and are glad we went. read more

Came here with my girlfriend from Rhode Island, with both of us being of legal drinking age with our respective driver's licenses. After sitting down, the bartender (who was very pleasant) took our IDs to check them, and was immediately interrupted by the manager, who took the IDs from her and started giving her incorrect instructions on how to determine if a person is over 21. First, he stated that my Massachusetts license was not over 21 because it was not horizontal. He then actually checked my birthday and said "Oh, so this one is okay I guess" he took my girlfriend's license and told us that he cannot accept out of state licenses, saying that "the cops here aren't fans of out if state licenses. Do you have your passport?" He offered to bring me my drink and her a soda, but we opted for leaving and heading to a different bar (which DID accept legal forms of identification). read more

Downtown Maynard has seen a lot of changes! One thing has remained for over 70 years.... The PC! People and places change and the Pleasant cafe seems to try and keep up with what the people want. It isn't just a bar. They offer food, entertainment and a great local option! It's run by a local family who value their customers and the community. They make seasonal changes to the menu with both food and beverages and welcome suggestion so that they can give the people what they want. While you can't make everyone happy, they certainly try!!! read more

Attempted to go on Saturday, 4/2/16. Sign on the door said opens at "noon". I showed up with my father at noon and the door was still locked. There were several gentlemen walking around in the bar, but completely ignoring the two of us standing outside in the rain. We waited for ~20 minutes (while ignored) before knocking on the glass to see if any of the three working, would acknowledge us. At this point, one of the older guys was watching TV at the bar and the other two were seemingly just hanging out doing nothing. This is a tiny place and there is zero chance they didn't see us outside. Either way, they didn't respond to the knocking and kept on their way. I pulled up the bar's website and facebook page. There was nothing about the bar opening late or closing for the day. There was also nothing on the door. I called from my cellphone twice and there was no answer. We ended up waiting till ~1230pm before going to shoot some pool at FireFly's in Marlboro. I happily spent my $100 on pool, beers, and food 15 mins down the road. I will never come back to the Pleasant cafe. read more

Stopped in on a whim after golf on a Monday night, awesome. Manager told me they had just changed the menu and the layout to make it less townie and more of a spot to get really good food. They have a balsamic roasted Brussels with goat cheese that may be the most delicious thing I've ever eaten, or I was crazy hungry from not eating all day. Anyway, try them. The Pleasant Cafe is yet another one of those places that my coworkers and i have walked right by for years and years, and in a fit of whimsy finally walked into. It's big and lived-in on the inside, clean enough but not so much that you wouldn't call it dive-y. i can picture it being more so if it was packed with Maynard townies (Maynard is a weird town and i've worked here for six years so don't try to convince me otherwise). The bartender's really friendly and helpful, and says that he's working to get a bunch more taps put in, and loaded up with quality beer. If so, this becomes our go-to place for work-related boozing, no question. read more

Bravo for the Pleasant Cafe, which more than lives up to its name! Popped in for lunch having no idea what to expect. The service was courteous, attentive & friendly. The barbecued short rib sandwich was outstanding: great barbecue, not slathered in icky sauce; excellent brioche bun. Good fries and some of the best onion rings anywhere around. This restaurant is the worst at takeout. Several times we arrived when instructed and had to wait an additional 30 minutes. Several times they couldn't find the order - twice when we ordered online and once when we called. They REALLY need to put more time into mastering a better system. We enjoy the food but are beginning to avoid them because of their takeout problems. read more

Poor service and way too expensive! They charge $21 for a margarita with patron..... That's insane! I just got back from Hawaii where we went to some very nice expensive restaurants and I never paid more than $16 so how the hell does this tiny place in Maynard charge that much?! So glad we stumbled in here this past Friday night. I was craving a burger, which is a rare occurrence, and they did not disappoint! I tried the Frank Jr burger which included cheddar cheese, bacon, a fried egg, grilled jalapenos and avocado crema. Why not have everything you like on one burger if you only splurge once in a great while!? It was so delicious and cooked to a perfect medium. So many flavors and textures but it worked! They also have a terrific selection of draft beers and the 20 oz Shock Top was the icing in the cake. read more

We came for lunch today. Waitress was nice, place was nice and clean. Never been here, and lived in Maynard for 22 years. We ordered beers, and some lunch. I ordered pork belly apps for my lunch. You get 3 per order, but I ordered a side of onion rings. Waitress said pork belly app were small. They were dry, and really nothing special. My hubby ordered the fish sandwich. That was tasty and fries were good. I feel it was pricy, but will go again and try another item in menu. read more

The Pleasant Cafe (the "PC") is a clean, friendly, old neighborhood dive. The food is simple, good and cheap and the beer's cheap, too. Don't bother ordering a choco'tini or whatever those drinks are called--it's not that kind of place. Saddle up to the bar and enjoy a cold beer, a hot sandwich and some good cheer. There's plenty of sports action on the plasma TV's, a dart board, a well-maintained pool table and live music with no cover charge. Very nice. read more

We came right from the Acton Discovery Museum with our three kids so the first thing I wanted to was wash all of our hands and there was no soap in the women's bathroom. I told our waiter and he said thanks I'll have it filled or fill it or something a while later when I went back in it was still empty. Nothing says sanitary food practices like no soap in the bathroom. We were literally the only table in there, there was a single guy at the bar. We ordered 3 kids drinks and the cauliflower appetizer and other food and just two kids drinks showed up and the food never did. Well, it did after 30 or so minutes with three kids losing their minds and the adults losing theirs too, and after we asked where it was and were told it would be another minute and a half. The food was actually good which is why I'm not giving this place a 1 star rating. The server was nice but it took FOREVER and we were the only ones in there!!! Good drink prices, bartenders are friendly and they have a good selection of what I would call bar food, burgers, chicken fingers, etc. They have different function nights, darts, karaoke night, DJ night, on the holidays they usually have a special selection of food (corned beef and hash on St. Patty's). The best place to go for beer and pool in Maynard. 3 pool tables, a juke box, huge bar, drink out back in the summer on the patio (well, it's a fenced in concrete backyard-thing, with a spastic fluorescent light, ultimate ambiance! Love it or leave it; and I love it!). A good mix of people, longtime local patrons, young professionals, college kids, some of of everyone. There's a dj night, beer pong night, karaoke night, and bagpipes on Christmas... Family owned, SO friendly, and very safe. Whether you're new or seasoned, in my experience, someone always watches out for you. There are shenanigans to be expected, and the hooligans are ejected. You can absolutely let your guard down and just have a good time. Gotta love the PC. read more

This is my "hole in the wall ", if you like those kind of places this is a good bar to go to . The drinks are also very affordable and have cheap Seasonal beer, Blue Ribbon . You can get one pumpkin for $6 which aren't a bad size & a mixed drink ( that isn't weak !) for $6. You might be hungover the next day but you won't go bankrupt from going there . You won't get pressured to keep a tab open if your trying to be good . The Bar Tenders are polite & help you as quick as they can , you actually want to tip . They also have food, loved their Corn Beef / Cabbage & Pulled Pork sandwich . They also have DJs & dancing it's not just Sports . The DJs are laid back /try to attend requests & the locals might even dance/ drop it low with you on the dance floor . I feel safe in their cause the owners watch the door well , not too obnoxious & " ghetto " like you might get in the city . If there's belligerence things are done. Loud in a happier way overall , people shooting pool & dancing etc. If you get kicked out for falling off a bar stool or getting too sloppy for example you'll be allowed to go back , they don't hold grudges & " expel you"..who needs those places , not me . If I was showing a new friend around town & they wanted to go out for a drink at night id definitely bring them there . Id even seen people bring dates that end up having fun ! read more

Came in to check out what the place was about and was surprised to see an unexpectedly well put together beer selection. Staff friendly, food reasonably priced and boasted billiards/darts as well. Digital display for draught choices with information (alcohol content, IBUs, prices) was interesting yet informative. Very relaxed atmosphere with great beer? Pretty much a no brainer. read more
