The absolute BEST fresh baked ciabatta bread I think I've ever had. Hot and crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. I was disappointed to not have a listing of cocktails on the menu or a cocktail menu at the table, as I would have ordered one or two, which would have increased the bill and therefore the tip for our hard-working waiter. Our family ordered the mozzarella sticks to begin with, which were perfectly crisp on the outside and melty on the inside with a delicious robust marinara sauce. The batter on the cheese sticks was more like a beer batter, which I personally prefer more than a bread crumb coating. For dinner, we ordered Chicken Parmesan, which was delicious, however the chicken needs to be pounded thin - it was more like a full size thick chicken breast which doesn't work well for chicken parmesan. The taste was very good though! My husband and son got the lasagna, which was outstanding, but the layers were not well-defined. My other son got the Chicken Marsala, which is the reason for the reduction in a star on this review - the chicken was not sautéed and it was very bland; the sauce was watery (more like a very bland brownish broth than a thick delicious brown sauce!). Please reinvent your marsala recipe!! Lastly, for dessert, we had the Tiramisu, which was excellent, however, it was marred by the whipped cream and chocolate sauce on top. Tiramisu should really only be garnished with a dusting of cocoa, as to not detract from the subtle flavors of coffee, liqueur, and mascarpone. When we're in Schroon Lake this is a restaurant that we like to visit. The Place is consistently has very good food & service. We visited here Fri 7/01/22 5:30pm. Many Italian choices & steak are on the menu. You can have "La Parmigiana" eight different ways ($14-21). And there are always clams, mussels, & shrimp dishes available. We like to sit at the bar side. The bartender is always friendly and has a running, entertaining commentary with the regulars. We ordered our drinks while looked over the menu. My bride had the chicken parmigiana w/o pasta and extra broccoli ($22). I had the mussels marinara fra diavolo w/ linguine ($16). All meals are served w/ warm Italian bread made in-house. Not a broad menu but something for everyone and is consistently hot & tasty. Total for 5 drinks & two dinners w/tax $85.60. Hours: Closed Sun, Tue, Wed. "The Place", this is my favorite Italian Restaurant of all time!! NYC, LA, Las Vegas no city has the combination of excellent food, service, value and ambiance like this a Italian Eatery. I always get the French Onion Soup, Veal Parmesan with Spaghetti and a Side of Amy's Homemade Meatballs. The Menu is perfect with no filler, try everything at least once. You won't be disappointed. The Place may have the best Marinara of all time. I go as often as I am able when I am in the Adirondacks. read more

Not fancy, but friendly and comfortable is how I'd describe The Place. I've been here several times and I've never been disappointed. That said, I'm not an expert on the complete menu because I just love their Eggplant & Parmigiana combo, just Eggplant Parmigiana and Shrimp Parmigiana! I've not ordered anything else. Their eggplant is prepared with an egg batter and not bread crumbs - it is tender and never bitter, it's not gummy and thick with crumbs. It just melts in your mouth. The sauce that blankets all the parmigiana dishes is "tomatoey" and fresh tasting, delicious! The shrimp parmigiana, with four good sized shrimp, is a winner as well. read more

I've been going here for yrs now . Food and service has always been great. Last night was a disaste 20 mins to get a drink and when we ordered the bartender took another couple order rt after us and served them 1st . Then we waited an Hour and a half to be seated. After all that it was another 15 mins to order only to be told they are out of just about everything we wanted ... we left and won't be back this summer . We hope they get it together . read more

Do not bother. We went at 6:30 pm on a Tuesday because it came up on yelp as good for families. When we got there, one other party was waiting. We watched two tables leave and get cleared, several staff walked by us 3 or 4 times each, and not one of them made eye contact, said they would be right with us, or offered to take our name to wait for a table. After FIFTEEN MINUTES, we left. Down the road at OP Frederick's, we were greeted and seated immediately and had a nice meal. Go there instead. read more

First of all - this is NOT a pizza joint. I couldn't even find pizza on the menu (quite strange). It's a full-scale Italian restaurant, in a very unpretentious setting (read: plastic checked tablecloth, paper napkins, neon sign out front). That said, the food was quite good... just not what I expected. My friends and I were looking for a place to get a quick sandwich or takeout near Gore. The Place Pizza (listed as an "Italian diner") sounded and looked like the perfect place - figured we could get quick pizza, sandwiches, pasta, etc. without a full sit-down restaurant. Nope. It's a full service restaurant, with pasta, seafood, steak, full entrees and apps... but no pizza. Oh well. We sat down and recalibrated our expectations, then enjoyed the meal. I had the mussels appetizer for $8 and it was HUGE! Probably 25 mussels. And very good. I ordered it hot and it was in fact quite spicy with lots of red pepper - perfect. However my friend's shrimp cocktail (which she ordered as part of her meal along with plain linguini) was disappointingly small - 4 tiny shrimp. Entrees ranged from $15-25 on the menu though no one ordered anything exciting to be able to comment. Service was friendly and speedy, and we were the only table on a Friday evening in January, other than some folks at the bar. Overall a good dinner, just not what we were expecting. At all. This place is definitely called "The Place" for a reason. It is the only place on this stretch of road for miles, which explains why the parking lot seems to stay full. The Place is pretty much what you'd expect it to be from a place called The Place: plastic red-checked table cloths and straightforward Italian-American fare. For a local restaurant in the middle of nowhere, their Italian fare was exceptional as I don't usually order Italian food as a rule. Growing up Italian and eating authentic Italian food since childhood makes me a bit fussy. There's a cozy fireplace burning in one dining room. The decor is a little different and dated between the two dining rooms but found the establishment clean & waitresses friendly. Ladies room may have been in repairs/renovations. Go in casual attire and with a big appetite. With that being said, their Eggplant Parmigiana is to die for, along with their red sauce! Calamari was good and lightly battered & fresh. Prices are about average, portions are large and food is good, hot and well plated! The only reason they didn't get five stars is for the decor. But don't let that turn you away! read more

The Place is a well known landmark to regulars. It's only open in the summer, only for dinner, and closed on one weekday (currently on Wed). If you know this area you know its rare for a business to be around so long and still be doing so well. While I wouldn't go way out of my way to dine here, it is certainly worth the visit if you are in the area. Good Homemade Italian food, simple basic atmosphere, and a typical Adirondack feel. I ordered the sea scallops after being assured by the waitress that it was a "good portion" and that it came with noodles. I did get a good amount of scallops but such a tiny plate of noodles that I felt the waitress was not honest with me. It was good but it should have been labeled an appetizer rather than a $21 meal. I had to eat from family's meals in order to not leave the restaurant starving. I wasn't even that hungry when I got there. We also didn't get water refills. We used to go there every summer when we vacationed at Loon Lake. The food was decent Italian fare and was one of the few choices we knew of in the area. It was our one restaurant night when I didn't have to cook. Half the reason we went was because of "tradition" and the name. Over the years we did notice that it was getting dingier and dingier. During the last trip I couldn't eat my meal. We were seated next to a window and the filth and dead flies on the windowsill turned my stomach. Looking around it was clear that the "Place" had not had a good cleaning in many a year. We now own a camp in the area and visit year round but we have found other places to eat. read more

Tough and dry like it had been in a freezer over a year, with a flavorless sauce. Hubby had watery lasagna. Daughter had sausage and peppers on pasta and enjoyed that.
