Wednesday nights are karaoke nights! So fun. This place has a bar called McDermotts attached to it, The Place is the restaurant part of it. My friend and I went to the bar side (they serve the restaurant food there too). It was busy but not crammed, which was perfect for us. We ordered the pesto penne, hot bath, and spinach manicotti. It took a long time to be served, but I'm guessing that's because it was a busy night. We didn't mind because we also ordered white and red wine, listened to the karaoke singers, and chatted while we waited. My friend fell in love with the spinach manicotti and I enjoyed the pesto penne. We accidentally got overcharged, but the bartender resolved the issue promptly. Overall we had a great experience, and will likely come back to enjoy karaoke nights again. read more

We have made the trek from Sacramento to The Place a couple times now to meet with friends. It has been a great experience each time! The food is always yummy and there are SO many menu items to choose from. Most recently I ordered the mushroom risotto and had SO much leftover to enjoy at home. Spent the last couple of days at Apple Hill and was craving pizza! I'm a sucker for a meatball pie and my goodness, this place did not disappoint! This isn't the first time weve been disappointed with take out. Last time they forgot a few things in the order. Visiting the area and were looking for Italian. Benne was recommended to us but the wait was too long so we came here instead. No wait to be seated at 7:45pm BUT then the loonnnggg wait began. We were seated at 7:45 and were served entrees at 9pm. No, this is not a typo. It took one hour and forty five minutes to get our entrees. Beverages came about 5 minutes after we ordered. Granny's salad came fast and was large. Two of us easily shared. We waited...and waited...and, you get it right? Finally decided might as well order a glass of wine cuz we were gonna be awhile. Also had to ask for bread too about 45 minutes in. Thought they would automatically bring out when they seat you but didn't happen that way. So, I got a glass of house Cab wine. It was a nice full glass, good flavor and reasonable price. Bread was COLD?? Why bake "fresh bread daily" then not serve it warm? I was disappointed in that. There were two other tables ahead of us and each table was served about 20-30 minutes apart. That is when reality sank in and we realized our "quick" bite to eat wasn't going to happen. I understand making food fresh BUT an almost 2 hour wait for a pasta entree isn't acceptable. Fresh pasta can be made daily during prep so all you should have to do is drop it in the water. There were four chefs in back, maybe five, and it took 1 3/4 hours to send out entrees?? I was just about to start snoring when entrees came. My gnocchi gorgonzola was perfect. Soft and pillowy gnocchi and very flavorful sauce The rice pot my hubby got had undercooked rice. How can you wait almost 2 hours for food and get UNDERCOOKED rice! Wow! So there you have it. My family and friends have been to The Place many times since they moved to their new location. The food is amazing. I've never had a bad meal there. The service is top notch, friendly, prompt and competent. There are a lot more seats than there ever was in the old location. Unfortunately, it is VERY noisy in the restaurant. There is absolutely nothing in the place to help deaden the sound! The Place has six, solid surfaces that allow the sound to bounce around, and around and around. You can be sitting right across from somebody at the table and cannot hear them unless they are yelling at you. And if they have a band playing in the back, forget trying to have a conversation. I hope the owners of this amazing restaurant take my comments to heart and hire a sound consultant to fix this problem. read more

The food is pretty good, the server is friendly, and I like the crooner music, but every time I go there, the prices keep going up! The menus listed online are not correct, it's much more expensive. Example: on their google menu a cannoli is $5.00, on Yelp it says $10, but it's actually $12.00... for a cannoli. At lunch: one entree, one salad and one dessert was $58.00 before tip, and with a very small amount of meat in the entree, and none on the salad. So an over $70 lunch without any drinks. Recently dined at The Little Italian Place for the first time and I can assure you it won't be the last! Fantastico! Total food love. Our table of four started with Grammy's salad (a significant portion; easily shareable) and it was crisp and delicioso! I was in heaven with the porchetta over polenta! Also had a taste of my friend's chicken piccata and my hubby's Woodsman calzone. Yum. With our tummies full, I couldn't resist ordering a cannoli. Hailing from the East Coast (many moons ago) and being Italian, I've missed an authentic cannoli and these definitely hit the mark. The Boston theme they have in the back bar it's pretty cool. Karaoke and fun bartenders. The restaurant itself has a bit more of an upscale feel. I tend to lean towards the woodfired calzones and pizzas, the pizza oven that they have is handmade and definitely a featured piece. Food is always been top notch. The only reason why am giving four rather than five stars is because they still don't have the full liquor license. They have low percentage spirits and beer. Gosh, this used to be the BEST! We absolutely loved it. We recently tried it again after a disappointing meal a few months back thinking it was just an off night. Unfortunately, the flavor and quality was significantly different. I ordered chicken Alfredo....which I have always known to be served with sliced chicken breast. This time it was served with boneless, skinless thigh meat with a gamely taste. My friend ordered the Mac and cheese with chicken....the chicken was dry as were the noodles. Even though the meal comes a la carte, it is also served with focaccia bread...."IF YOU ARE ENJOYING THE DINE-IN EXPERIENCE". If you order take out, it Is $7.00 more for a few wedges of bread. The 2 dishes we ordered were $58.00 before a take out tip. $70.00 later, the dinners ended up in the trash. The Place has consistently gone downhill and I am sad to say we will not be going back. read more

Food here is always outstanding, and the service as well. One thing that stands out in the perceived modern times of "gratuities" is missing the fine print. We had a birthday gathering which exceeded their mandatory check-percentage for tipping (which I do NOT agree with percentage tipping anyway!). Our group had appetizers, drinks and of course dinner which of course pumped the check price up. The tip was upwards of $60, and then you look down the bill farther and there's ANOTHER mandatory tip (they call it a "BH service charge" which is a back house tip) for the kitchen of another 5% which added another $20! If ownership wants to do a kitchen commission, reflect it in the food prices and pay staff accordingly, sneaking in line items will deter patrons, at least this one. Much as we have enjoyed their food, we will just find another place to dine. read more

The staff was friendly. This restaurant seem to be very popular with local residents of the Placerville area. We each ordered a salad and found them to be excessively heavy on the dressing, and not particularly tasty. The main entrées we ordered were nothing special, the flavoring was similar to sauces and pasta you would buy at the grocery store. As soon as you walk in the door you see the kitchen. Unfortunately, this did not give us a sense of a well organized kitchen operation. None of the staff at the restaurant seemed concerned about the spread of Covid as they were not wearing masks despite requests from health officials to do so. I don't like posting negative reviews but our experience at this restaurant was super disappointing, particularly after driving over 30 minutes to get there and the positive reviews it had received. read more

What happened to this once wonderful place! The food we ordered was way below what we had experienced with the old owners. The noodles came out with so much water on the plate it looked like soup. The sauce was bland and the chicken was very disappointing on both dishes. We ordered the bread and it was cold, who serves cold bread? It also tasted old. I really want to give this place a chance because the staff were really nice but I cant justify 100 dinner that isnt very good. Maybe just focus on the bar and serve bar food moving forward. This was my second time dining at The Place. Previously we ate at lunch time and we got pizza that was amazing. We arrived on a Saturday at 5:30 (reservations recommended) and were quickly served our drinks. The appetizer on the other hand took a bit too make. I believe they had to pluck the garlic bulbs from the ground then roast them. It took 50 minutes to receive the appetizer. 1.15 to receive the main course. I think the main reason for the long wait is because they own the bar next door and they share a kitchen. I wouldn't recommend bringing children at dinner time due to the long wait. The food is very good but the wait is why I gave three stars. I'm not sure what the bar menu looks like but serving two places with one kitchen is hurting the couples and families that come in for dinner. Staff was wonderful. read more

Unbelievable food! I am so excited to have discovered this foothill gem on a whim. The Place is a little out of the way, but WELL worth the trip. It wouldn't be a stretch to say this is the best food in El Dorado County. The cuisine is Italian fusion rather than straight Italian, but it works incredibly well! Make sure you start with the Piemontese Bagna Cauda (AKA "Hot Bath"). It's the best flat bread you'll ever have, without hyperbole: crispy outside, wonderfully doughy inside. For main courses... take your pick. The pizza-- traditional Napoli Italian style-- is perfect, no matter which one you choose. The other entrees are just as good. Don't be put off by the use of polenta in place of traditional pasta. I was skeptical at first, but the first bite washed away all misgivings. These people know how to cook! Bene, Cirino's, Sergio's, Three Forks... all the best Italian places in the foothills will have to fight for second place. read more

Thought we would give the new location a try and sat there for an hour before some waitress asked us if we were waiting for drinks I said no because no one ever offered to take our order for drinks. The food came an hour and a half later. I asked for bread with my minestrone soup did not get any. And then was told I would have to pay extra for bread with my entrée. One: The noise inside the restaurant was so overwhelming we literally could not hear what the person less than a 1ft was saying and had to yell the entire time my throat hurt when I got home. We (the missus and I) have been patrons since they first opened in 2017. They have just reopened in nicer, larger digs down the road a bit. What was once a primarily takeout joint with a limited menu and seating has become a full-service, full menu dining room. Pros: the staff were very friendly and professional. The food was top-notch as usual. The decor was appropriate. Con #1: price. While the skill set of the back room was apparent, the pricing is going to keep us from coming often. As we were celebrating our anniversary, we justified the outlay, but dinner for two (two salads, two pasta dishes with meat upgrades, a shared dessert, a bottle of Chianti, and a pizza to go) came to just under $200 including gratuity. Acceptable for a fine dining experience, but not for an Italian restaurant with the following... Con #2: THE NOISE. we could barely hear each other, and had to ask the server to repeat often. The noise level was more like a high school cafeteria, not a place charging $200 for a night out. This problem is inherent to the location (we have been to the two previous restaurants at this spot and they had the same problem) but it needs to be addressed if they want us as regulars. Noise abatement needs to be top of their to-do list. TL;DR: loved the food, the staff and the new location. Need triage on my bruised wallet. Hated the noise levels. We'll come again, but maybe not as often as we'd like to. read more

We finally got a parking spot and were looking so forward to this hoppin' place. We entered through the bar in the back and that looked awesome, but we were here to eat. We got a table for two quickly and ordered. The wine list was okay, not much a selection of white wines. We ordered and had our wine. Our meals came, no bread offered beforehand, and also no bread, salad, soup anything with the meal. Just one bowl, warm not hot, of our choice, that's it. No parm cheese offered, no bread. This used to be out go to place. We were here once week. The quality of everything has dropped a ton. Some days they only have a limited menu. They are almost always short staff - I will say their staff does their best most of the time. Our last visit was the last straw. Their once amazing pesto now has that bitter cheap store bought taste. The meatballs came out cold. Pizza has almost no cheese. We always get a tiramisu to go and that was the biggest slap in the face. We got home to find we were given a very very old dry flavorless tinny square of tiramisu for $14. Zero cream to be found. Nothing like the amazing scratch made one we used to get loaded with flavor, yummy cream and very moist. Their drinks have gone way down hill and they are still using fake alcohol ( soju ) but listing real and name brands on their menu. Our bill is never under $100 when we go here and we will be finding a new place to spend the money. read more

We love this place. Great pizza, pasta and salads. I haven't gotten anything I didn't like. Pizzas are one size, 6 large slices per pie. Tonight we had the Woodsmen and Salsciccia. Both are very tasty. My favorite salad is the blue Italian. It is craving worthy! The staff is fast and friendly. Trust me, you will like this cozy spot. It was our first visit to this place and it was nice but a bit pricey and service could have been a little better. Thank goodness there was a Happy Hour in the bar area for drinks and apps - 50% off- and they had a great list of cocktails the rest of the menu was a bit high but a nice variety and the portions were quite large! Live music too, there was an adorable older couple playing the blues Our server was cool and nice but she was working the bar and running food between the actual restaurant dining area and the bar tables and quite social with friends at the bar! It would have been nice to have a check in and I had to flag down the only other server to get a to go box and then go to the bar and ask for my check. I would go there again and enjoy the happy hour prices but from what I heard I think it was a little bit better when it was called "The Little Italian Place" and now it's called "The Place". Overall the food was really good. I had a pizza with Prosciutto, bacon, handmade sausage and pineapple fig jam! Absolutely love The Place restaurant in Roseville and Placerville, however now extremely disappointed because the owner is now charging a "BOH Service charge" to your final bill which is a forced tip for the back of the house dishwashers, etc. To me this now affects how we tip the servers. We are typically a 20-25 percent tipper, but now we adjusted our tip to the server accordingly because of this forced fee from the owners. This should be at the discretion of the client for services provided. Very disappointed and may now reconsider being a continued customer of this restaurant. So sad!! read more

I have always enjoyed eating at The Place. On July 23rd I received an email from The Place with a free piazza for my birthday (which is on the 24th) good for the month. I realized the the only address on the offer was for the Roseville location. I called the Roseville location only to be told very rudely that they were no longer associated with the Placerville one. So I call Placerville to see if they would honor it, was told that they would not and they had been separated since the 17th. I told her that the website shows that they are still connect, her response was no we are not and she hung up on me. It is a shame that this is how they treat a customer. read more

Not The Place to be since the addition of the bar. There food dishes have gone down hill severally. Kids pizza tasted to have stayed the same, so that gets a couple stars. The Service was only available if we could flag down a server running from the bar to the front or vice versa. The ambiance is weird, as seating is very unorganized.
