This is a small tasting room venue on Main Street. They have a bar and indoor seating for wine tastings of the Batia Vineyards. We had a couple of glasses to taste. Their wines were good. I particularly liked the Grenache Rose. They also had charcuterie, but it was "Build your own" which was complicated and difficult. We happened to catch some live music on their small stage while we were there. That was a much-added benefit. The only downside is that the place was almost empty and service was really slow; not that there was no-one to help. Just that the person serving was more interested in looking at her phone while listening to the music. read more

Great little spot to catch some live music at! We stopped in here a few weeks ago being drawn in by the talent and live music. My daughter loves to dance so we went in and danced a few songs. Stopped by Batia Vineyards to pick up a wine order and stayed for a while. Socially distant tasting by appointment is pretty awesome. Batia does white and red Rhone varietals and blends sourced from their estate and Sierra Foothills. The whites are delicate but stand up to a variety of pairings. The reds are robust and cover a wide spectrum, so you will find something that suits you. Monique, Barbara, and Jim are great hosts. My wife and I were there for a birthday celebration. The birthday guys were the lead guitarists and vocalists playing with other band members. We sat near the band at a small table away from the long bar. I walked up to the bar and ordered a glass of wine from the owner, Jim. It was over $18 with a tip. He asked if I wanted to buy a bottle of wine and I said no because my wife doesn't drink and I wanted to remain sober as I was driving. The music was fantastic with Jerry and Dana playing lead and rhythm switching back and forth. The atmosphere was friendly and fun with a packed house. Then Jim came up to me and asked me if I wanted to order another glass of wine even though I had a few sips left in the glass. I said to him I'm not going to have another one as I normally don't drink alcohol and was here for the birthday celebration. He got upset and lectured me on "I'm in business to make money". He then made up "there is a $10 cover charge" which is BS because there's no sign at the entrance and his web site doesn't say anything about a cover charge. This is a wine bar/tasting room. His web site says "live music, come and enjoy a glass or two of wine". There were plenty of other people who were there for the birthday bash drinking only water. He then rudely took away my glass of wine even though there were a few sips of wine left in it. That was his attitude so my wife and I left before the band came back from break to play more music. I could use colorful language to describe the owner's behavior and attitude, but I won't here. As a Yelp Elite member, I follow the guidelines and of course etiquette but I think readers here will get the point with the facts I've stated in this review. I can't wait to hear Jim's response here as to what justification he had for his rudeness and treatment. I won't be back at this business as there are other places in Placerville and El Dorado County where owners make their guests feel welcome. read more

When we visited, there was live music going on that sounded good, beckoning us inside. The big tv behind the bar was on, tuned to Fox News, which was distracting. Beneath the tv was a painted sign on the wall indicating My Way, Highway - with an arrow pointing out the door next to "highway." We felt intimidated by the non-inclusive atmosphere so after a quick glass of wine, we opted for the highway. My sister is a wine club member here since they first opened their tasting room at the Old Sugar Mill and I love being her plus one every time we come wine tasting! Barbara, Jim, Blane and their entire staff (especially Monique, she's my fav) are always so nice to us, they know us by our names, they make us feel like we're family not just any regular customers. I have a membership at a different winery at The Old Sugar Mill, but whenever my husband and I go wine tasting I always stop in to say hello to my Batia Family, they treat us the same with or without my sister (which is the club member). They have really good wine selections. My favorite is the 2016 Gernache. It's very smooth, it's not a dry wine either, it has a berry taste to it. My other go to is their Rose', people usually think Rose's are sweet, but not this one. This Rose' is very easy to drink and it's very refreshing. I can drink it during summer or winter time! :) Another cool thing that I love about this wine club is they have parties for their member's and each member gets to bring their friends and family. They usually charge for non member's (but well worth it). Every time I've gone with my sister to any events they usually have the party at their house in their backyard and it's always a good time. They have live music, bands, DJ, catered food and WINE of course. :) If you're looking to join a wine club this is the one to join or even go wine tasting at the Old Sugar Mill, stop into Batia, I promise you won't be disappointed! read more

We visited the Sugar Mill last weekend. It was our first visit back since the pandemic. We went straight to Batia crossing our fingers there was spots for us since we didn't have reservation. My fiancé and I took a tour of the Old Sugar Mill recently and fell in love with the venue. We asked for suggestions on which wines to try out and Emily let us know Batia had some of the best red wines. She was right! The staff here is really friendly, I forgot what his name was but he was the young man with blonde hair who helped us and poured our wine to taste. My favorite out of the reds was definitely their Old Vine Zinfandel. Must try! We bought a bottle of Zin and Syrah to take home. And I recently came back on Mother's Day to show my parents the venue and we bought another bottle of Zin to enjoy out in the courtyard. Batia Vineyards has a location set up at the Old Sugar Mill. With so many options at the Old Sugar Mill, I was lured to Batia by one of the employees calling me over. I was greeted by twins, Blayne and Brian. They asked me what kind of wines my group was looking for and showed me a tasting that suited our desires. Every wine I tasted from Batia was amazing! It was only $5 for a tasting, which is a great price point for the quality of wines. I ended up purchasing a bottle of the Rose Grenache, which I highly recommend, and they waived our tasting fee for two people. The port wine was also sooooooo good! I am usually not a fan of port wine, but this one was very smooth and had the perfect amount of sweetness that I enjoyed. Not only is the wine delightful, but the customer service was great. Blayne and Brian were fun hosts and showed our group a good time. It's $125 to join the wine club, where you get 8 bottles a year and invited to wine parties. I'm highly considering joining. Batia's wonderfully friendly, personal customer service is every bit the equal to their wine. My girlfriend Chelsea and I met Jim at Sugar Mill when our dogs started barking at each other from across the lawn. We went over so our boy, Archer, could say hi to his dog, and the ensuing conversation with Jim impressed us enough that we went straight to his tasting room. 45 minutes later, we were happy members! It was one of the most fun wine tastings we've ever done! The wine is very good (especially the Rosé!) and the service was the best we've ever had at a tasting. We have tasted here before. The wine is decent. While making up my mind on which two bottles of close to $40 wine, to buy, I asked to revisit a specific year. The owner looked at me and stated "I've already poured that for you." He then turned and walked away from me. We will never go back there. read more
