Had a wonderful time wine tasting at Mellowood yesterday. Enjoyed their Syrah- and Zinfandel-based wines -so delicious. And our host Loree was super welcoming. Great tunes, great wine, wonderful company on a snowy Saturday. I plan to join their wine club and party during their Mardi Gras and Reggae Festival! Thanks Lori!

Absolutely amazing! I visit a ton of wineries and this one truly wowed both my husband and myself. We did a tasting and were pleasantly surprised by the complexity and balance of the wines! We ended up going home with a couple of bottles and will definitely be back to visit an again soon. The owners & tasting room manager were also very nice and welcoming!

Mellowood is such a beautiful, warm, and wonderful winery! The owners were so personable and told us how they make their wines, different things to look for in a good wine, and their experience. The wine was delicious! I purchased their Zinfandel and they said that wine was a fan fave, so definitely try that. They also have an air bnb on the winery available to rent out for a night or two. We had a hotel elsewhere, so we didn't do that. We will definitely be back!

Before I begin my review I have to say wow! I'm not wowed to offend. We went on a day when they were closed. The owner opened up for our small group of four! Both husband and wife shared their beautiful story of the winery and their history. The wine is absolutely delicious. Experience in every glass. We got a true authentic experience. Talk about a hidden gem! This is a beautiful winery. Full of love, hospitality and good people. We left feeling like we made new friends! So put them on a must go and visit! Cheers everyone!

Cute little tasting area, very cozy

If you're looking for that special winter forest country charm, this is the place. What a find this is! Linda is the most welcoming hostess/winemaker/renaissance woman that you'll find in the El Dorado Wine Country. My family are Mellowood members, and we had the pleasure of spending part of our weekend with her last Sunday. I almost don't want to review this place and keep it a hidden gem. However, there's too much good stuff to be found here, and it feels wrong selfishly keeping it to myself. Warm and cozy, the Mellowood tasting area is on a hilltop, in a bright red converted barn. My family and I braved stormy weather to visit, but I think the weather outside only made the inside all the more inviting. As an adorable side note, the bathroom (located out the door and to the right, on the outside of the building) is one of the most quaintly decorated winery bathrooms that I have yet to experience. I was in love. I guess it's a girl thing? I mean, they even had Prince Albert in a can. Anyway, on to the tasting. We had 11 wines to taste this time around, including a vertical of the delicious and complex Mellowood Syrahs, and the elusive Scarlett herself. Yes, it's named for that Scarlett and the soil of Tara where she finds her strength....and/or the terra cotta red soil of Napa, I guess, if you're tired of me booknerding it up in here. Linda's first vineyard was in Napa. From the labels, to the décor, and even the rich, vibrant color of the wine itself, Red is very much the theme here. Over the weekend, we were also treated, during a special holiday event, to a lovely spread prepared by Linda, including a delicious beef and potato "Wine Stew," fresh breads, salmon, and cheeses. I absolutely adore welcoming receptions such as the one I received here. Tasting Tidbits: -No tasting fee -Affordable -Limited cell reception in this area -Red Hat Ladies welcome -Closed/appointment only on weekdays, open 10-4 Sat. and Sun.

They are great! Definitely worth the stop

It's a cute little winery with small indoor seating but plenty of outdoor seating and a deck.

The staff are super friendly and know there wines, and there own product very well.. I tend to always enjoy there Sherriff blend. Ambiance is very relaxing, inside they have a nice setting, with wood, and just relaxing.,.. The outside is not 100% covered how ever, more but allows the sun to somewhat come through, but somewhat shady as well. The patio area is Dog friendly, and they will bring out water for your pooch , no wine for the dogs tho.... lol

We tried three different pizzas between us, the pepperoni, the gorgonzola with fig and the daily special, which was hawaiian, though we sub'd pepperoni for ham. We did a gluten free crust for two of them and it was, by far, the best gluten free crust I've had. It was still crispy on the bottom, just like a regular wood-fired pizza. Flavor-wise, the gorgonzola fig was everyone's favorite, by far. The fig, cheese and spicy arugula was just perfect. We held the walnuts. Tracy took care of us and we loved our tasting. Our designated driver was treated to an Arnold Palmer, much better than just his usual bottle of water. I thought their wines were pretty reasonably priced, even for non-members. You need to buy at least $60 worth of wine to waive the $15 tasting price - I appreciate that they put that right at the top of the menu so there's no guessing. The tasting was really generous with good pours so even if we hadn't bought wine I would have felt it was worth it. Tracy took great care of us, answering all our questions and keeping our water and wine glasses filled. It was a wonderful, relaxing day on the beautiful property.

However, after giving them an honest chance, we found that their wines are superb across the board. The staff are all very friendly and the vibe is not Napa-esque. We sat inside since the weather wasn't that great outside. They have beautiful grounds to taste wine and have a picnic. Since we sat inside we had Jake waiting on us. He was very nice. He gave us a bottle of water to start with and we went through the tasting list with a couple of extras. He put our wine club pickup together for us. We decided to swap out a couple of bottles. I thinks it's truly annoying they have to refund the entire wine pick up and recharge you again. It's not a friendly user experience and should be reviewed. Credit the two bottles and recharge the 2 bottles. I think it would be a simple process for the customer and the winery, and still have good accounting practices. I asked if we could have the complementary breadsticks everyone else was eating them and the girl behind the counter said we are all out. OKAY! I really love the Chardonnay it's my favorite. Rombauer makes some great wines. Bottles can be costly, but once you open the bottle and you have your first - three sips, you know why you're in the wine club. As a member your tastings are complementary which is a nice benefit. I'm happy that they hold our wine club bottles until we come to pick them up usually twice a year. It would be nice if they did complementary shipping for a penny all the time.
