As you approach Plymouth, the landscape becomes more rural, with vineyards, wooded hills, farms, and winding roads creating a scenic introduction to the Sierra Foothills wine region. Rombauer's winery is located on Steiner Road, a well-known stretch of Amador County wine country. The property is surrounded by tall trees and lush landscaping, giving it a peaceful and secluded feeling. Its exterior is attractive but relaxed, blending naturally into the rural surroundings rather than appearing overly formal. We sat inside since the weather wasn't that great outside. They have beautiful grounds to taste wine and have a picnic. Since we sat inside we had Jake waiting on us. He was very nice. He gave us a bottle of water to start with and we went through the tasting list with a couple of extras. He put our wine club pickup together for us. We decided to swap out a couple of bottles. I thinks it's truly annoying they have to refund the entire wine pick up and recharge you again. It's not a friendly user experience and should be reviewed. Credit the two bottles and recharge the 2 bottles. I think it would be a simple process for the customer and the winery, and still have good accounting practices. I asked if we could have the complementary breadsticks everyone else was eating them and the girl behind the counter said we are all out. OKAY! I really love the Chardonnay it's my favorite. Rombauer makes some great wines. Bottles can be costly, but once you open the bottle and you have your first - three sips, you know why you're in the wine club. As a member your tastings are complementary which is a nice benefit. I'm happy that they hold our wine club bottles until we come to pick them up usually twice a year. The tasting room and wine shop has a bit of an Italian villa vibe. The huge back lawn was beautiful. We chose to stay inside since outside service was limited that day. The bottle labels and wine names were entertaining in themselves. With an extensive list it was hard to choose a few to try. I started with three of their five sparkling wines. The Almond, the Peach, and the Strawberry. I have an office full of girls that enjoy their sweet bubbles. So they got some that day. For me, I like the reds. From the Kitchen, I ordered the southwest salad and added grilled chicken for an extra $5. The salad was uneventful. The chicken was a measly portion that was served in a small container that is the same size container that the salad dressing was served in. Where's the chicken?! The chicken also had no flavor. Bummer. But the Dave burger and side of Caesar salad looked so darn delicious. Folks in my group that ordered that, devoured theirs. Big, fat juicy burger. The onion rings was a hit for me, crisp golden fried beer batter sweet onion rings. Delicious. The audible crunch just made it more satisfying. The housemade kettle chips were thick, toothsome, and salty. Very flavorful. My glass of wine was so darn delicious. Light, crisp and smooth. Darn... I forgot the name of the wine. There is also a wine cave, folks can make reservations for tastings in the cave. The cave is below the amphitheater. The small amphitheater is aesthetically eye catching. The bar area was small and completely full, with no seats available or even enough room to comfortably stand. We ended up ordering two glasses of wine instead and sat outside. The weather was a bit warm but still tolerable. I asked a staff member why we were given stemless glasses while guests at the bar had stemmed glasses, especially since I was drinking sparkling wine that would be better kept cool instead of warming up the glass. He explained that stemmed glasses can tip over more easily outdoors, whereas stemless glasses are more stable. I understand the reasoning, but I wish they offered outdoor wine flights using stemless glasses instead. Many wineries offer outdoor tastings, and we likely would have purchased a bottle or two if we'd had the opportunity to sample more of their wines first. On the plus side, there was an outdoor pizza oven that day, operated by a separate business. We ordered the sausage and potato pizza based on the pizza owner's recommendation. It was over $30, but the portion was enough for two adults to share. One thing worth mentioning is that it was quite warm, and we didn't realize there were complimentary bottled glass waters in a fridge until we were leaving and saw another guest grab one. It would have been helpful to know about the water, especially since we were sitting outside in the heat. They did have a self-serve water canteen with cups next to it, but I didn't feel comfortable using that to fill up my Hydroflask and take all the water. Overall, it was a pleasant visit, but I think offering outdoor wine flights and letting guests know about the complimentary glass water bottles would make the experience even better. We would have loved the opportunity to try more wines rather than settling for individual glasses.

When I arrived, I was the only one in the tasting room, and I was offered tasting after tasting, paired with things like cheese, crackers, popcorn, salami, you know, things that go really well with wine. Very generous pours for tasting, and I was able to purchase some wine to go home with me. Being from Hawaii, we are used to paying shipping so, I asked what it would cost to ship it home, lets just say I could've bought another plane ticket to have that box come home via fedex. I asked if they pack for planes, and hooray for that! Just the cost of luggage, a much more reasonable option. Definitely enjoying the wine, and hopefully I'll be able to return sometime soon.
