I pictured a few small chunks of concrete on display. Well...they don't just have pieces. They have several original sections of the Berlin Wall, beautifully displayed alongside their outdoor tasting area. I was immediately in awe. Standing there looking at the wall--and knowing what it represents--was unexpectedly emotional. I had just finished a novel about the Berlin Wall, so all that history was fresh in my mind. It made seeing these actual sections of the wall even more powerful. As we tasted the wines, I had a view of the West Berlin-facing side, complete with its colorful resistance graffiti. Walking around to the East-facing side was an entirely different experience. The stark, cold concrete has almost nothing on it except bullet ricochet marks. Seeing the two sides of the wall was incredibly moving. Okay...now for the wine! We did a tasting of six wines for $20 per person--one white and five reds--and honestly, every one was delicious. We liked them enough to buy two bottles to take home, which waived one of our tasting fees. John was our host, and he was gracious, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. He shared information about the wines, the vineyard, and the history of the wall, which made the whole experience that much more interesting. So yes, definitely come for the Berlin Wall and stay for the wine. It's a unique combination of history, emotion, and really nice wine--and one I'm very glad we experienced.

There was this beautiful watermelon salad that was my favorite! Desserts were brought in from a local bakery and WOW!! I'll dream about pecan bars! The wine was great! This is a lovely property in located on the Shenandoah School Road east of Plymouth, California. Owner/Winemaker Chaim Gur-Arieh started his career as a food technologist, creating some of my childhood favorites- Captain Crunch, Hidden Valley Dressing, and pudding cups. That has to explain why he creates some very delicious wines now. Elisheva, his wife and business partner hosts the tasting room, or should I say tasting garden. On gorgeous days enjoy the beautiful large patio and garden space she has created on the property. Complete with chandeliers. Be part of their mailing list and make reservations to attend one of her concerts in the garden during the summer. After checking in at the actual tasting room, I walked the path to the garden and could pick any seat. I was brought a nice charcuterie / cheese plate to enjoy with the wines and the sunny morning. The barbera and tawny port are two of my favorites. The sparkling rose was nice and light, perfect as we now enter 100 degree days for the summer. It's going to take several trips to discover all their wine. Chaim has even made wine that pairs with sushi. Wild. Don't be disappointed by showing up, they may be full. Make a reservation. I had to show them the email confirmation. It was fine and we were still able to sit down right away. The inside wine tasting room is kind of small but the outdoor patio and area makes up for it. It is quite big and open. I think someone can host an outdoor concert or a wedding. We got to taste about five type of wines (Sauvignon Blanc and few blended red wine). They were all good. I particularly like the 2020 Interlude and purchased a bottle for my sister. We also got to sample from their gallery collection library club that's like 20+ years old ( I forgot the exact year) and that was special. They also have dumplings and spring rolls for purchase. I skip that because I wasn't sure if that would go with the wine. We bought some cheese with us and we had that with our wine. Of course, we asked for permission before bringing in our own cheese and crackers. The gentleman that served us was really nice and friendly. We didn't feel rushed and wine was poured at a good pace. I do want to mention that most winery at Amador will comp at least one tasting with purchase, but not at Di Arie. If you're not a member, be prepared to pay the full wine tasting fee per person.

Had lunch as well there and food was really good. There were 4 of us buying wine both reds and whites. Somehow our order got a bit mixed up and we accidentally got a case of red in place of white wine. I called office today and they went above and beyond to get that case of wine delivered to our home asap. Cannot beat that for service anywhere. It's literally the first winery once you hit Plymouth on 49 and if you blink you will miss it, and now I know that missing it has been a travesty. We were luckily able to taste and we tasted with the owner Paul who takes such pride in his work. He has his wine list and he takes such care with each that it is noticeable and enjoyable. He will tell you all about them, and hang out with you, it's a nice respite in these darker days. Each wine is full bodied. No fluff, no filler, just like Paul. The distinct profile of each is enjoyable and as you go from one to the next you can see his tasting menu is as ingeniously crafted as his wine. While this is a business, it feels more than that, Paul has made this an art form truly. No mass production, no loss of quality. It's truly a gem and set apart from the other wineries not only by location, but by the heart put into it. Make sure when you head up that hill, not to miss this great one!

Apparently, this is the related winery to Villa Toscano located nearby, which we had previously visited. Once again, I found myself a fan of this place also! It too, is surrounded by eye pleasing countryside views, with lovely ponds, fountains, flowers and comfortable seating areas along the outdoor patios. The entrance opens into a large room where the tasting counter is at the far end. But before getting there, you are tempted on the way over to browse the retail area which features home decor, artwork, designer accessories, and clever wine connoisseur gifts. The walls are decorated with assorted flags and a family style crest over the focal point of the wine tasting bar. The wines offered on the wine tasting list were similar to what we had tried before at Villa Toscano. But we ordered another $5.00 flight that included our favorites along with a few we hadn't tried yet. We enjoyed the flavor variations, but had a hard time deciding on what to purchase, so we went outside for a while to take in the scenery and discuss which ones we liked the best. Bella Piazza also offers a wine club membership that includes discounts on wine, other products and a free lunch buffet every weekend. This is another nice little winery to spend time with family and friends!
