We enjoyed a glass on the patio in back which was quite crowded on a Sunday, and loud. I do not understand why people need to be in a bunch and carry on in an annoyingly loud way with others around wanting to experience a quality tasting, yet not the business's fault. Visited this winery while looking around to see what was open during the holiday Christmas week and came open this winery. The customer service provided by the gentleman was great! He was knowledgeable and really knew the wines and parings well. The wines we tried were ok and just not what we were looking for and maybe they would work best for someone else. What was excellent was the cheeses they paired with the wines. The cheeses were amazing!! The Holy cow cheese had great flavor and the expresso flavored cheese was fantastic. We have a group of six people that camp at a ranch in Amador County, California near the town of Plymouth. To start off our trip we like going to Wildrotter Winery for wine tasting. There is a large patio with shading that is surrounded by vineyards. We bring our own lunch and for only $12 each we have wine tasting with a cheeseboard. Since we decided that we were going to four different wineries, my partner and I shared a pour and a cheeseboard. They have a large tasting room, but we prefer to eat and taste out on the patio. Their tasting room it's open every day from 10:30 in the morning till 5 PM. They have a wine club, and offer group tastings for limos and buses - - but as you can imagine appointments are necessary. They are located on 80 acres growing both wine grapes, and three different olive trees. There is a parking lot, and there is only one step up for wheelchair accessibility. We found the price really reasonable. The service was excellent! Next time we go winetasting and Amador County, we will probably start our wine tasting adventure at Wildrotter Winery. read more

Stopped into this place today. My wife and I belong to multiple wine clubs in the Amador area and are always looking for a new ones to add to the rotation. The new owner introduced herself and seemed nice enough. The gentleman serving us during our tasting seemed focused, and wasn't very engaging. That being said, the served wines were decent, though not produced on site. Ultimately we were looking to purchase two cases of wine (they had a white and red on special), and sign up for a 12 bottle per year membership. Apparently their policy requires 6 bottles to be purchased to sign up for a membership. I was surprised to learn that despite buying two cases (24 bottles) of wine, we would still need to buy an additional six to join their membership. I opted to pay the $30 for our tasting and part ways. I mentioned to the gentleman that their business model seemed to need work. He indicated it was their policy and offered no additional discussion. There are 100's of other wineries that actually produce their own wines in the area that I will give my business too. The place is cute with good wine. Our server was so friendly. We were given several pours of wine with a cheese tray. The server explained each pour and told us what to pair each wine with. Service for the paid tastings with cheese plate was marginal on a Sunday with very few people. We were here 3 months ago and the staff was excellent on a weekday with only one staff member present. Ironically, they had multiple staff on Sunday with 3 small groups and service was so slow and less attentive. We sat on the patio and there were at least 5 staff members just hanging around and on their cellphones. If I was the owner, I would have less staff and just have them work. My guess is being a Sunday with less people, management had less patrons than they expected. Surely that is no excuse. We brought family members from out of state and hoping for the same experience as before and wow them. But not. The tastings are now $12 as a heads up. I am writing this review super late but the experience will last for a long time. This was our first stop on the Amador County Wine Tasting excursion. The tasting room is super cute with two bars, and then an out door area overlooking the vineyards (perfect for large groups). We ordered a cheese plate and a tasting for two. The wines were absolutely amazing, some light, then grew in tannins as we got to the Reds. The cheese plate paired nicely with each wine, my favorite was the espresso cheese paired with the Cabernet (grapes from Napa). Great start to our day, ended up buying two bottles and a block of the expresso cheese. Cannot wait to come for more of their delicious wine and cheese. Thank you so much!! read more

Wilderotter was recommended by another winery owner. What's that tell you?!?! I could stop here but I won't. We loved this place. It's not a big chrome building with mediocre wine. It's a great, small tasting room that is staffed by some very knowledgeable people telling you about their wine and wine in general. Honest, open, and hella nice. Sam was our server and he worked for his $$$ this past Sunday. We talked his ear off as he led us through a flight of wines that I'd serve to anyone, anywhere. That's how good they are. In addition to all this, I have to admit that I can appreciate a break from the wines that Amador County is known for. Zins and Barberas, to name a few. It's no surprise that you can't get a Chard or Cab in this district. The weather there just doesn't provide what those grapes require. So, what do you do? You buy from a region that does produce amazing Cabs and Chards. Then, that dialed in wine works his magic onsite, to produce the bliss in a glass that Wilderotter sells. Good people make good wines. It was a spectacular day in the Shenandoah Valley wine region today. I was looking for a nice wine tasting experience, a beautiful tasting room, and a spacious patio with a lovely view into the vineyards. I found everything I was looking for and much more at Wilderotter Vineyard. My wife and I took my elderly mother-in-law for an afternoon drive about the Amador County foothills to enjoy the fabulous sunshine. The weather was spectacular today. The temperature was in the low seventies and the sun was shining brightly. Not a cloud in the sky anywhere. A perfect day for wine tasting outdoors. Upon entering the Wilderotter tasting room we were immediately greeted by friendly staff at the first tasting counter. We sat in the spacious outdoor patio area where there was generous seating and table space. Those pouring for us were all smiles and very knowledgeable about the wines they were serving. Best of all, Jay, the owner of the vineyard was kind enough to visit our table and say hello to my mother-in-law, my wife and me. Jay spoke directly to my mother-in-law, made sure she was comfortable, and had everything she needed. That was very kind of Jay. The wines were delicious, and we had a wonderful tasting experience. It appears the level of customer service has suffered as we are all pulling out of Covid. Went to the winery to pick up our Club offering (a full case). We weren't really greeted when we came in and were immediately told they were sold out and had no area availability unless we wanted to stand our front until something opened up. I mentioned we were picking up a Club shipment and was told were told "oh, that's nice" and were told if we wanted to taste any wine we could purchase a glass or bottle and wait out front. I tried to state we are members and was told it didn't matter. We were welcome to purchase a glass or bottle and wait out front. There was ample space at the tasting bar but maybe inside tasting isn't currently allowed. That I don't know but is sort of irrelevant as we were told our options. Purchase a glass or bottle and wait out front. Very disappointed. Wilderotter Vineyard used to be friendly and fun. Maybe it was a slammed busy Saturday before Mother's Day but still expected better. In the end, we decided to cancel our wine club membership. There are a lot of wineries with a lot of good wine in the area. The service we receive has always been excellent and the wine tasting room is very clean. Recently, an additional room was added so there is plenty of room for tasting. We have had picnics on the patio and the staff are really accommadating. I am typically a designated driver and they keep my glass of water filled. They sell a product which chirps while aerating called the Chirpy Top Wine pourer. It was a very cute and very reasonably priced. We actually looked on Amazon and the price was $5 more. read more

Two years since our first visit, my companion and I recently came back to here to find the place has changed. The expansion is completed with an extra bar, a shop selling wine related items and cheese, and a covered patio. On a Friday morning, the place was quiet. We were cordially greeted and given a tasting menu. The menu and the server did not disclose the tasting fee or if the fee would be waived if a purchase. We were asked if we wanted a cheese plate but were not told that it's complimentary so we declined. After the tasting and a purchase of a tasty sparkling wine, we found out that the tasting fee if $7.50 per person and the fee is not waived. Note that the web site currently has the tasting fee at $5 (don't know if we were overcharged or web site needs updating). Do give this place a try because the bubbly, white and red wines are pretty good. read more

I am not sure how to describe our experience at Wilderotter today...but it was really awful. We walked into the winery hoping to enjoy a nice wine tasting as we had on our first visit here last summer, but we were met by a terrible smell that was so strong it smelled like a sewer pipe exploded inside the tasting room. We quickly look at each other and headed for the door immediately. How the people running the wine tasting didn't open the door to get rid of the smell escapes me. Wow...what a disappointment. We received many recommendations from other tasting rooms for Wilderotter - and we are so happy we stopped in. First, the bad stuff --- The parking lot is small and the tasting room was packed to the gills, it took us about 5 minutes to squeeze one person from our group up to the bar... so there is definitely a space issue. The tasting room also smelled off - like bad moldy cheese - it pretty much filled the air. Despite the above, we enjoyed Wilderotter so much we left with a case of wine and a wine club membership, much to the chagrin of my pocket book. They have a varied catalogue of wines that you don't see at a lot of the other wineries in Amador County. The Sonoma County Blanc de Noirs definitely made this winery stand out and was not only refreshing but defined the perfect tiny bubbles experience. When we stopped in the tasting room was doing a pairing of a grilled cheese and tomato bisque - we had to wait about 30 minutes to get our pairing but when we finally got to taste the pairing we didn't mind the wait anymore! (Note I think the cheese smell from above may have been a consequence of the creation of these amazing grilled cheese sandwiches). We used to be wine club members, but recently cancelled after appalling treatment we received from the pompous owner (Jay). I won't bore anyone with the details, but when confronted with our concerns, the owner literally walked away without saying a word. What a great, fun experience! $5 tastings...it includes a nice little cheese plate...with cheese, chocolate, salami, bread and olive oil. Tiny portions, but its to really pair with the wines, not to make a meal out of. We were served by Ravel, she was very kind, knowledgeable, and fun. We enjoyed all of the wines in our tasting, which was ten wines! We each then enjoyed a glass of wine on the patio...and although it was getting close to closing time, Marianne, another employee, was making sure we were comfortable, and making sure we didn't feel rushed as they were trying to get their closing duties completed! Very friendly staff. I have been here several times over many years, as a friend of mine is a member. Prices are moderate. Wine can be very good here. Not every offering, as they have over 20 so gosh good luck loving all the wines. But most of them are good to excellent for my palate. I am a GSM nut, so I do like that they offer a varietal of each of these. The winery is nice, with a snuggly patio in the back for picnicking, they have expanded recently so there are places to spend the night, and the have like 2 areas for you to taste. and now the patio is much smaller, but still nice to hang out for a bottle or picnic with friends. If you are into Mourvedre, Syrah and Grenache and you seek out these wines, you need to try WV. My favorite in the latest releases is the Mourvedre. But all 3 GSM's are quite good. read more

This was the first winery we stopped at during our tour last weekend. My boyfriend and I are pretty much wine novices but are eager to learn more. This was the perfect place for us to start. Immediately, we were pleasantly greeted by an older gentleman who provided us with some very useful information about wines and the best way to enjoy the tastings. He got us started on their extensive list of whites all the while explaining how the wine is made and what kind of grapes are used. I wasn't exactly head over heels for the whites but they weren't bad. He did the same with the red wines and never once talked over our wine knowledge lacking heads. At the end of our tastings he asked what other wineries we were going to visit and offered up some suggestions which was nice. Since this was our first stop, I thought I'd just grab one bottle of wine to try. It was really hard to decide between Mourvèdre and the Cabernet Sauvignon. I enjoyed both equally as they were quite mellow with a nice finish. I opted for the Cab that was made with Napa grapes and I can't wait until I open it up! I was surprised that I also really liked their Grenache Rosé which was chilled. I might have to go back and pick one up before the end of summer. read more

Probably my favorite visit of the day. Really enjoyed their Bubbles and chardonnay. I was immediately struck by the quaint, picturesque setting. There's a Pincic seating area with water noises, shade and flowers, and it's located immediately next to the vines. Their Chardonnay just hit the spot on a warm day while I enjoyed a sandwhich. The service is very friendly and no imposing. It fills up fast and gets busy. So it's not the place to ask questions about your wine and expect a one on one service. I think that closed off picnic area is really the best. Don't forget to mark the map on the wall with where you're from. read more
