We have been to the Amador Plymouth area multiple times and typically stay a bit more inward. The day we went, may 3rd, to the area we decided to try a new place and I literally typed in wineries near me on Yelp and La Mesa vineyards popped up. We were all glad that this was the main suggestion that popped up because we had such a wonderful time at the tasting room. The space itself is very clean and modern, and it has a beautiful view of the hills around the area. The outdoor seating area right in front of the tasting room is a wonderful space to take advantage of if you are going to be in the area during the warmer times of the year. We tasted their general menu that day when it came to the flights. Everyone had their own favorites. The call-outs for us would be the rose and the primitivo. Those two we really liked and bought two bottles of each. We did not get to try the food there but everything that was coming out looked super delicious. The one thing that caught her eye that a lot of people were ordering was the whipped feta. So that is definitely something we want to try next time when we go back. So if you're in the area please drive a little further out over the hill to find this wonderful little space. read more

One of my favorite stops in Amador! The wines are excellent and the owner, Come, is very focused on sustainability in both the growing of the grapes as well as the wine making process. He uses polymer tanks rather than wood barrels and so many other unique techniques which really shows in his clean wines. Love the Barbera Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc plus the rose for the hot summer months! Their tasting room is so nicely set up in the hillside and the bistro makes some delicious bites to enjoy while tasting. Their staff are always so helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about all the wines too! Highly recommend a visit!! read more

This tasting room opened in 2021 and is a beautiful modern tasting room with lovely views. They informed me that they have live music on the weekends in the summer. They no longer give you the tasting in carafes but serve you each wine individually. The service is spectacular and we felt comfortable asking about the style of wine making here. I know this is a newer winery so it is still working towards their style. I do like that they are serving more than Barbera and Zinfandel, they have gamay and a gsm to name a few. On the weekends they have their kitchen open for a menu that changes monthly. We did not try the food but heard others enjoyed it. We hope the wines continue to become more complex and wish the winery well. We look forward to coming back to try future vintages. read more

Owner Come's award-winning response to my honest, constructive critique of La Mesa's inferior wine is quite entertaining but sadly misses the point of customer feedback - a chance to do better. I mentioned the pluses of the estate (I.e., ambience and courteous sommelier), but the wine is candidly some of the worst I have ever tasted and I cannot delude myself into pretending it is remotely potable when there are far superior wineries in Shenandoah Valley (such as Amador Cellars and Karmere) that charge lower tasting fees for far better wine. Instead of writing off an honest review as "angry" when nothing in my review remotely smacks of such (I much prefer to write 5-star reviews across multiple platforms as I have with other wineries), Come may want to spend some time reflecting on such and consider offering potable wine rather than fermented grape rot beneath even the standards of Pruno engineers in county jails. I don't know if he is capable of such, but he should try. The $15 fee would be justified if La Mesa's wine were any good, but it tastes of ash and smoke taint - liquid garbage if you will - among other awful notes in its symphony of cacophony, and other wineries in the area charge less for far superior wine. Granted, our palates have been pampered by the deliciousness of Alpha Omega (where tastings cost $75 to $150 but are very much worth the cost of membership), but we enjoy the other delightful wineries of Shenandoah Valley such as Amador Cellars and Karmere and will continue patronizing their undertakings. La Mesa, on the other hand, given both the sub-mediocrity of the wine and the owner's whiny repudiation of an honest critique of his inferior wine, we will happily never visit again, even if we were paid to taste it. Life is just too short to waste on awful wine. read more

Beautiful modern building on a bluff overlooking vineyards, with great patio seating that allows for dogs. Staff is friendly and helpful. Their food offering was not available the day we visited, but they do allow outside food. The wine was good, but nothing really stood out to make me want to purchase. We have read great reviews about there food, so we may go back and give it a try. Perhaps the pairing of their wine with their food is the answer. read more

I agree with some others that there are much better wineries to visit in the region. Just visited this weekend and here are some thoughts. Pros - Beautiful tasting room and amazing views. The food was BY FAR a standout. Get the sliders and whipped feta, you WONT be disappointed. Easy parking, clean bathrooms. Cons - The pours were tiny and measured, so many people behind the counter who were pleasant enough, but had no knowledge or passion about the winery or the wine itself. They just read from the menu while pouring. The likely had backup staff due to the event happening at the fairgrounds but it was still disappointing. Unfortunately, the wine was terrible. We all agreed the whites tasted like water (no flavor at all!) and the reds weren't much better. I appreciate their venue but i'd go again for the food, and nothing else. read more

I'm not exaggerating when I say La Mesa is our absolute favorite winery. La Mesa checks all the boxes we look for: gorgeous views, lovely ambiance, warm and welcoming staff, fun events, and most of all - delicious wine. We went when the tasting room first opened and have been founding members ever since. The staff is kind and make us feel special on every visit. The owner, Come, goes above and beyond in his customer service and Antonia is an incredibly knowledgeable wine maker. We have enjoyed some of our favorite wines at La Mesa -- they are innovative in their wine making process and offer unique varietals such as Gamay and Barbera Blanc. It was a very nice experience and nice wines. The was the first of three stops for the day. We liked several of their wines as they had a bit of a unique taste. We also ordered a charcuterie board that was excellet. As we left, we spoke to the woman from the kitchen that put together the board. You could tell that she truly cares about the quality and pairing with the wines. The staff was super nice and gave us some feedback on other places to checkout. We now have La Mesa on our shortlist of places to take friends when they visit. I wish that I had taken a picture of the charcuterie board to share it here. read more

Very modern glass steel tasting room. Beautiful outdoor seating with umbrellas. Views are impressive. Very different wines for the region. Tastes not in our palate range. Was not impressed with a red wine (Primitivo) that had a coconut taste. Whites very fruity and young for our taste. Since Covid, not a fan of the wines poured into carafe and served as a "flight". Option was five wines. Two of us each choose five different to have a tasting of all. There was often not enough in the carafe to share with two, for just a sip. This is happening at other wineries through the region. Missing the pouring and conversation about the wine. Not just a piece of paper and some wine in front of you. Tara, our server was open to our criticism and suggested that later would be more bolder wines. Will we go back....... perhaps in the future. read more

My favorite wine is the 2020 Primitivo which is rich, bold, and full bodied perfection. I simply can't get enough of this wine! The Gamay Noir is another favorite and is light and easy to drink during the summer months. As for the winery, the building is modern and has a large wonderful patio with a view. There are a couple of EV outlets and they recently added a kitchen that serves food on the weekends. The staff are wonderful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Don't be surprised if the owner personally greets you and engages in deep winemaking discussion about grapes and yeasts! You don't get that experience in Napa. This can easily become one of your favorite stops. read more

We came to La Mesa hoping for a wonderful experience and we did! The environment the Owners created is top shelf! The layout of the property is beautiful! The tasting room is filled with spaciousness, aesthetics and comfortable seating, and super clean! The views are perfect for a full relaxing wine tasting experience.   I am not a big wine drinker, and feel I am 'a canary in the mine' that if I like something it's good!  We tasted 12 wines. We took home 9 bottles! Their Barbera is excellent with all the red meat meals, and a dash in any marinade, they almost could sell it as marinade!  The Primito Rosé 2018 is so smooth and doesn't burn like some wines can.  Great for sensitive stomachs like mine!  The Chardonnay's, are also extremely light, dry and full of flavor!  I don't know of a single place we have done tasting where I liked all choices. (We live in Sonoma County!) These would make great gifts! The ones we sent have all been well received! La Mesa ships directly so it is easy to order and send to friends and family all over the country!  We have already placed our second order! The owners and crew are very mindful of Covid-19 safe practices which makes this a rewarding outing for a weekend to help during these cooped up times! Five Stars all around! read more
