We finally tried this place. It was ok. They were out of pizza and several other things on menu. Service was alright. Our waitress was nice and attentive but it was long waiting to take our order and get our food. Place was only 1/2 full, so not too busy on a Saturday evening as well few weeks ago. Cute Italian place inside. The food- My dish had flavor but the chicken was tough and overcooked and the gluten free pasta wasn't fully cooked, not soft at all. Kind of disappointing. My hubby dish he really liked ravioli with meatballs. Their focaccia bread was really good and dip it in oil/vinegar they bring to you. Not gluten free but I had a taste. Made reservations because the online presence boasted of authentic italia: fresh made pasta, cannolis, hand made gnocchi...The restaurant last night had none of that. Not even piccata on the menu anymore. My dining partner said all of those things were in place with the last owner. It's unfortunate. You would never know from driving by this place that it is well worth the stop. In a nondescript building at a rural road junction, this Italian Place serves legit cuisine. They make their own pasta. It was one of those menus where there is too many good things that its hard to decide. The three of us shared a Margherita pizza, Spinach Manicotti, and Fettuccine Alfredo. All of them were yummy. The salt on the dishes added incredible flavor, without making them salty. The dishes come with Focacia bread, which was decent. The platter for dunking the bread with balsamic, garlic and olive oil was super tasty. All the desserts looked great too. We had a hard time deciding, but went with the Cannoli to share because we don't get those very often. It was pretty good, not amazing. But disappeared quickly. The food took a while to come to our table. While we waited, we played a game where everyone except one person closes their eyes. That person with their eyes open takes one object from the table and hides it in their lap. Then the rest of the table opens their eyes and tries to figure out what item is missing. Great game for kids and adults. We peeked in the attached bar with a Boston theme. Having lived in Boston for years, it brought back good memories. The food was great, we got the brocheta motsorella appetizer, the Italian soda was delicious and had real raspberrys as a garnish! The Arnold Palmer tho was the best we've had! We ordered the Italian fry bread as dessert it was greasy but so yummy! We had a really good time and definitely looking forward to going back! This used to be my favorite Italian restaurant in town, but unfortunately, our last two visits were disappointing. I ordered salad and soup for dinner. It took almost 50 minutes to get the salad, and after 90 minutes, we got our food and the soup was so salty I couldn't eat it. In addition, there was hardly any in the bowl. I was offered a replacement, but at that point we just wanted to go home. I hope things improve, but it'll be a bit before I go back. This was a first visit here at this low key spot in Placerville. I did not get a chance to see the inside dining area as we sat out on the deck. I must say this was the best Chicken piccata I've ever had!! The arugula salad was also simple but flavored well and loved the shaved parm on top! They ran out of things on the menu but made great recommendations for our party of six. I'm aware they also have. This Place is our new Place. We originally went to The Place in Roseville (so technically this review is for both!) and immediately fell in love. Roseville on a Sunday was definitely busier than Placerville, but the service was amazing both times! In Roseville we ordered the Polenta Frys addictingly delicious), the Caesar salad, Mikeys Balls, and the focaccia... everything was so so good! The polenta frys are perfectly crispy and the flavor is better than any polenta fries we've tried since. Mikeys balls, they're damn good balls... the sauce for both the balls and the frys is heavenly. The focaccia is worth every oil/balsamic dipped bite. The need for polenta frys got the best of us today, and we headed to the Placerville location. We were greeted with smiles by the guys in the open kitchen area (pretty cool to see them in action, flipping the pizza dough!), and Heather. She was super friendly, and definitely welcoming! We knew the frys were on the menu but decided to try a pizza this time, with some Italian wine. Zero complaints. The pizza (Salsciccia) was simply perfect. The toppings were all you need and the wood fired crust was cooked to perfection. My son has already asked that we go back this week so that he can finally try what we've been bragging about. The Placerville location is a little further out, but the food and service were so worth it. My husband and I stopped in last night on our way home from wine tasting. We were drawn in by the music from the band and the smell of delicious food. We sat on the restaurant side and were still able to enjoy the music without being crowded in a room which we really enjoyed. Our server Maddie was so sweet and took great care of us. Excellent food, just ok ambience, professional service. The Place is the only Italian restaurant in El Dorado County I would bother going to, and I have been to all of them. The one in downtown Placerville is ok, but they don't have some of the recipes that make The Place far more attractive for food quality. For one try the Blue Italian or the Lemon Rocket salads and you will know what I mean. They have a very hot oven for pizza, and it delivers crispy crust neopolitan style pizza that is delicious. However if you really want to know this place go beyond the pizza and calzone. Excellent food, literally as good as you'll find anywhere in California. The tables are nicely spaced (maybe because of COVID), and there is a patio out back with a lot of room as well. If you like sausage pizza, the Sweet Pig pizza will rock your world! The name is appropriate for the restaurant. A small restaurant with just a few tables, but don't let the deceive you. First a had a project in the area to appraise a group of vineyards. I couldn't pass this up so after a family vacation in Orlando I flew from Orlando to Sacramento and to this area. I have Amanda J with me to assist and I had another project in Northern California so I figured she could fly home and Mrs. E could fly out to meet me. Here I go again, off the track again. Ok so we find this restaurant on Yelp and I think hmm maybe pizza or a plate of pasta. We walk in, the place is empty with the exception of a nice young lady behind the counter. We start going over the menu and I notice an item on the wall called "Zoodles". What are Zoodles I ask. It is zucchini shredded into noodles with garlic and white wine. We are in wine country and we're told that they grow their own vegetables organically. Let's do this, and I'm surprised to hear Amanda day she was in too. They are made fresh and the process is a little long. While waiting I visit the only bathroom, I guess it's "gender neutral ", but it's like a 5 star restaurant bathroom. A shelf with anything you could imagine you may need. I was impressed. When I return my Zoodles are on the table. They were delicious, absolutely delicious. They were coated in the wine sauce which I wanted to drink when I finished the noodles, or Zoodles. The dish had some sliced green and yellow zucchini, sliced small tomatoes, and the garlic. To my surprise Amanda J loved it too. She's not often impressed, a little like her mom. I didn't say that. So if you're in this area this is a must. Just know that when you pull up to it your first impression is going to be Michael E is nuts, this is a roadside pizza joint. Just go in and order their Zoodles. I promise you will love them. I live in the Sacramento area and there's lots of options for Italian food but there is no love in how the food tastes, almost like it's fast food. I really don't like giving mom and pop places bad reviews. The staff get a 4 star, but the food was mediocre at best. This is our second time visiting the Place in Placerville and will not be back. We go to the one in Roseville from time to time and generally come away feeling satisfied. I'm not sure what the disconnect is between the two places. Tonight I got the fettuccine Alfredo and the sauce was very acidic, but not in that "ooh lemonie" kind of way and the description did not state there was any lemon in it so not sure what was going on with it. My husband ordered the Americano pizza and he said the crust was good, but that was it. We split the Caesar salad and that was solid. The right amount of dressing, homemade croutons and the romaine was fresh. There were only two shakers of Parmesan which were empty and when I asked if there was any more they brought out packets like you get from pizza places. If I had been ordering to go I'd get it, but we were dining in. For the amount we spent I really wanted to ask for my money back, or at least a pretty good discount, but I did not. Im sure alot of more locals go there and love it which is great. Our first visit to this location wasn't great either and I was so hoping this experience would be much different, but sadly was not. read more

While the service was excellent the quality of food as well as the preparation has declined significantly. The connected bar has some great music and the bartenders are great. The food has been spot on every time I go. The pizzas are perfect for 2 people to split, and you have to try the Sweet Pig and the Meatball pizzas. Also the meatball appetizer and garlic bread are a must if you are hungry. Wednesday nights are karaoke nights! So fun. This place has a bar called McDermotts attached to it, The Place is the restaurant part of it. My friend and I went to the bar side (they serve the restaurant food there too). It was busy but not crammed, which was perfect for us. We ordered the pesto penne, hot bath, and spinach manicotti. It took a long time to be served, but I'm guessing that's because it was a busy night. We didn't mind because we also ordered white and red wine, listened to the karaoke singers, and chatted while we waited. My friend fell in love with the spinach manicotti and I enjoyed the pesto penne. We accidentally got overcharged, but the bartender resolved the issue promptly. My family and friends have been to The Place many times since they moved to their new location. The food is amazing. I've never had a bad meal there. The service is top notch, friendly, prompt and competent. There are a lot more seats than there ever was in the old location. Unfortunately, it is VERY noisy in the restaurant. There is absolutely nothing in the place to help deaden the sound! The Place has six, solid surfaces that allow the sound to bounce around, and around and around. You can be sitting right across from somebody at the table and cannot hear them unless they are yelling at you. And if they have a band playing in the back, forget trying to have a conversation. I hope the owners of this amazing restaurant take my comments to heart and hire a sound consultant to fix this problem. read more

Visiting the area and were looking for Italian. Benne was recommended to us but the wait was too long so we came here instead. No wait to be seated at 7:45pm BUT then the loonnnggg wait began. We were seated at 7:45 and were served entrees at 9pm. No, this is not a typo. It took one hour and forty five minutes to get our entrees. Beverages came about 5 minutes after we ordered. Granny's salad came fast and was large. Two of us easily shared. We waited...and waited...and, you get it right? Finally decided might as well order a glass of wine cuz we were gonna be awhile. Also had to ask for bread too about 45 minutes in. Thought they would automatically bring out when they seat you but didn't happen that way. So, I got a glass of house Cab wine. It was a nice full glass, good flavor and reasonable price. Bread was COLD?? Why bake "fresh bread daily" then not serve it warm? I was disappointed in that. There were two other tables ahead of us and each table was served about 20-30 minutes apart. That is when reality sank in and we realized our "quick" bite to eat wasn't going to happen. I understand making food fresh BUT an almost 2 hour wait for a pasta entree isn't acceptable. Fresh pasta can be made daily during prep so all you should have to do is drop it in the water. There were four chefs in back, maybe five, and it took 1 3/4 hours to send out entrees?? I was just about to start snoring when entrees came. My gnocchi gorgonzola was perfect. Soft and pillowy gnocchi and very flavorful sauce The rice pot my hubby got had undercooked rice. How can you wait almost 2 hours for food and get UNDERCOOKED rice! Wow! So there you have it. Gosh, this used to be the BEST! We absolutely loved it. We recently tried it again after a disappointing meal a few months back thinking it was just an off night. Unfortunately, the flavor and quality was significantly different. I ordered chicken Alfredo....which I have always known to be served with sliced chicken breast. This time it was served with boneless, skinless thigh meat with a gamely taste. My friend ordered the Mac and cheese with chicken....the chicken was dry as were the noodles. Even though the meal comes a la carte, it is also served with focaccia bread...."IF YOU ARE ENJOYING THE DINE-IN EXPERIENCE". If you order take out, it Is $7.00 more for a few wedges of bread. The 2 dishes we ordered were $58.00 before a take out tip. $70.00 later, the dinners ended up in the trash. The Place has consistently gone downhill and I am sad to say we will not be going back. read more

What happened to this once wonderful place! The food we ordered was way below what we had experienced with the old owners. The noodles came out with so much water on the plate it looked like soup. The sauce was bland and the chicken was very disappointing on both dishes. We ordered the bread and it was cold, who serves cold bread? It also tasted old. I really want to give this place a chance because the staff were really nice but I cant justify 100 dinner that isnt very good. Maybe just focus on the bar and serve bar food moving forward.
