You tell me - One star or two?…read more I didn't receive any service, even though they are open until 7:00 PM. I pulled up to the propane station at 6:42 PM. Unloaded my two propane tanks to be filled. After waiting three minutes when it was clear no one was going to help me, I decided to call, rather than load everything back up and go inside. I asked if anyone was working the propane station. 'No, Propane is closed,' she said. 'But you're open until 7. When did propane close?', I asked. 'At 6:45,' she said. 'Just now.' That's customer service for you at the Oak Harbor Country Store. Whoever was filling propane today wasn't around at 6:42, 6:43, 6:44, or 6:45, so it's closed. How convenient. By the way, there isn't ANY sign or other markings indicating that 'Propane closes at 6:45'. And if it were truly closed, why isn't the propane station locked up? Why is it possible for someone - at 6:56 PM - to just walk up and snap the photo I've attached? Propane is so heavily monitored and regulated. Certainly this is a safety hazard to leave the propane station unattended like this? It's now 7:03 PM. The propane station is still open; nothing is locked up. A woman from inside just came out and asked if I was hoping to get propane. I said, 'Yes.' She said, 'We're closed. You'll have to come back tomorrow.' I replied, 'Then you might want to lock all that up. It's a safety hazard.' I pointed to the propane station. She called someone to come lock it up. It's 7:07 PM now. Still unattended; still wide open. It's been unattended, wide open, unlocked for at least 25 consecutive minutes now. They call it Joke Harbor, for a reason, people.

My most recent visit, I boarded my two dogs for 8 nights and had given instructions to give my dog his anxiety medication once daily. Upon pick up, I was told he didn't receive his medication and specific wording from the worker (Colleen) was "it's as needed right" despite giving specific instructions for once daily AND the pill bottle saying the same. I called once I got my dogs home to ask why the medication wasn't given and the workers exact words were "I forgot" and "I just got back from vacation and didn't see his medication written on the board." She did say he got the med the two days she wasn't there and still charged me for those days. After giving it some thought, I decided that mistakes happen and I was willing to continue to board my dogs there for my next trip. I called to reserve them a spot and was told they were full. I called back to ask to be placed on a waiting list and the same worker said she would call me by the end of the day the next day and let me know if she had anything open up. I never received a call. At this point, it's just bad business and clear this worker doesn't care about the clients.

I asked for Bruce and Kal to be roomed together, as I was told all 3 couldn't share a room, because Bruce has become very bonded to his brother since joining our family 3 years ago. They share a kennel sometimes and sleep together every night. We were surprised when the receptionist told us upon pick-up on Sunday that we couldn't room Kal and Bruce together next time because Bruce just lost it and attacked Kal. First they said it happened Saturday night, then upon further questioning, said they found him like that Sunday morning. Either way, I should have been contacted immediately. When they walked my poor boy out, his jowls were swollen 3 times their size!!! He could barely walk and just appeared to have been through the wringer. The woman said she bathed him "to get the blood off" but he still looked dirty and smelled so I bathed him when we got home. The water ran yellow with the feces in his fur. But they bathed him? he could barely even stand during the duration I had to clean him up. She pointed out a small cut by his ear but I see scratches all over his body, no open wounds, but on his forearm there was a red gash from elbow to wrist! Red, but not open. Like when you scratch yourself from an allergic reaction, like a mosquito bite maybe, except he can't reach there and if another animals, big or small, dog or even cat, got ahold of him, it wouldn't look like that. His face feels like Braille with all the small...cuts? all over his face. We are constantly asking "what happened to you???" Of course the people there said well it must have been his Bruce but he didn't have a mark on him. So Kal just laid there and took it? But wouldn't Bruce's mouth have some sort of wear if he tore up another dog? Knowing our dogs, we don't believe one bit. I have no idea what could have happened to him in there, none of his small scars point to any kind of abuse but you can bet I will never return to that facility should my life depend on it. It is sad a local business like that cannot be trusted for 2 nights!!! What about people boarding for longer?!?! It makes me sad considering I am a big supporter of small business but please reconsider when looking to board here. Get a tour, interview the staff-and the owner! He tried to word play us too but saying his staff was so upset about what happened to Kal...then why didn't you call me immediately upon finding him like that? And why does your story keep changing? I'm only thankful it wasn't worse and he has seemingly recovered well with some gabapentin and rest.

My boyfriend and I learned recently that WAIF has a SPECTACULAR REPUTATION through neighbors as we chat with them about our recent adoption. They rescue animals on the island. One of our neighbors took me to the kitty cottage in Freeland next to the Healthy Pet shop. It's adorable. They do what they can with what they have as a non-profit organization and they do it so well. They keep their facilities clean and TAKE GOOD CARE OF THE PETS THEY RESCUE it appears. They work across the island. They have guidelines and seem careful about who is adopting and the kind of environment the adopters will be giving to the pets. The staff is obviously super caring. They have tons of information too. After seeing and hearing about WAIF, I can't help but spread the news about them and recommend them highly.

I understand that COVID took a toll on staff members and shelters in the country, but to create such difficulty to adopt an animal is disgusting and wrong. I made the trek to Whidbey to go meet the animal, I knew it was just a meet. A test result needed to come back before the animal could be taken home. I totally connected with the animal and was very excited to begin another journey with a fur baby. Feeling good and couldn't wait - for the call that she would be mine the following week. Instead I was woken up Sunday at 8 a.m., this staff member telling me, this isn't going to happen. The animal was going to be too much for me. I wasn't the right fit, not a good match. Asking....would that be okay? WTF? I was so upset. Especially since the animal is still available 3 weeks later. Another review below, the same: "This place obviously doesn't want to find a home for its animals and would rather just keep them in cages and indoors."
