To anyone considering an Olympic Dog from Andrew J: I was referred to his website by my father (shocking that this anachronist found anything on the net). He said, "I spent several hours last night perusing a website ... There is a lot of content and it speaks exactly to the conversation we've been having in front of fireplaces and wood stoves for 20 years regarding how we'd create our perfect dog." Now, I don't require convincing when it comes to the subject of "hybrid-vigor" or "selective pressure." I spent an evening and read every word on Andrew's website. The next day my Dad and I spoke and compared notes. We were both intrigued. So I called Andrew and we spoke for an extended period on the phone. Perhaps more than once. He eventually sent me pictures of one of his two "keepers" of his first Kangal/Dogo cross. The picture spoke to me and I found myself on a flight to Seattle. Then drove a rental and rode a couple ferries until I made my way to his goat ranch/farm on a wet grey afternoon, a few miles south of Port Townsend. Dogs, goats, chickens and cats ... There was a lot of life. I met "Zorba" at about 16 weeks ... Met the dogs that sired Zorba (Oz and Negretcha) pictures of all may be found on Andrew's site. I knew he was for us. Andrew delivered him to our Place on the Scott River a couple weeks later. So what did we get? Zorba had never seen a river before. While the whole family enjoyed our favorite swimming hole on the Scott as a respite from the summer heat, Zorba did just what you would expect a puppy to do ... He ran back and forth splashing and having a ball , snapping his puppy jaws at every splash before him ... and then, I watched him do something unexpected ... he walked out into the river up to his chest, and stuck his head underwater and looked around.... This was the first clue that we might have a "thinking dog." By the way, I do not believe that intelligence is important or even necessarily a good thing when talking about family dogs. We continued to see "raccoon-like" intelligence from Zorba as he quickly learned to open latched doors and gates. I was really startled when I watched him learn how to catch squirrels running along the top of our chain-link fence, not by following, but by beating them to where they were headed and then throwing his shoulder against the fence and spilling them into his territory.... So back to what did we get? Zorba is a handsome hound ... 31" at the shoulder and a hard, fast 130 pounds. Has never met a person he did not like, male or female, toddler on up. He's presided over BBQs where we had 50 guests and made friends with everyone so inclined. He is extremely affectionate and demonstrative when he wants to be ... Laying his head in your lap or burying it in your chest ... I have fallen asleep with my head on his chest and woken up hours later ... He was "jake" with it. From the moment he joined our family, he has watched out for my wife and son (now 8, he was two and a half when Zorba joined us) ... If they are in different ends of the house, he's in the middle with an ear cocked. He follows them both around and is frequently under foot in the kitchen. Now, the other side, Zorba exhibits significant "prey drive" ... He does not abide non-human interlopers in his back yard, not flies, bees, or wasps (he's eaten hundreds with no ill effects) ... not rabbits, squirrels or rats ... We've found them all ... Intact, slobbery and still ... Not coyotes (we live in an area over populated with coyotes and frequently visited by lions). My wife watched him chase down and get ahold of his first coyote at the age of 12 months. He barks at hawks and ravens when they intrude on his airspace (at altitudes of 200-300 feet). Now for all that prey drive, the first time he encountered a rattler, he stayed about 12 feet away and barked a strange constant alarm bark we had never heard before (or since). We spend some time (never enough) on family land with no neighbors and no roads ... ingress is a cable car across a 250 foot span of river ... While we have less than 300 acres and a mile and a half of frontage on a wild & scenic river, we back up to the Marble Mountain Wilderness and might as well have 10,000 acres ... Four wild salmon runs per year, tons of deer and bear, at least one lion, eagles, ospreys and goshawks. I've never had a moment of doubt turning the combination of dog and boy loose on their own to explore The Place.... Are we happy with our choice? Without a doubt. Would I prefer less dog aggression, yes. Would we trade him, never. Greg B.

We have two Olympic dogs for the last three years. We had Rhodesian ridge backs two sets for over 20 years good dogs, but our Olympic dogs are far better. I believe the Olympic dogs we have are smarter, more obedient have less health concerns are more durable.

Let me first say before I write this review that we did extensive research on Andrew and Olympic Dogs, including reading all of the negative reviews on him and the aggression potential of his breedings. That said, after several conversations and much research we chose to proceed, and I am very, very happy that we did!!! We got a 12 week old Boerbel / Kangal / Dane / Dogo from Andrew, who we've since named Argus, and he's as healthy as ever! At 14 weeks he's already nearing 35 lbs! A word on temperament... this dog is a typical puppy. Keep in mind, at this size, there is the brain of a 90 day old puppy in a 30 lb dog's body... which is both fun and more than a little hectic (but very worth it). Anyone who is qualified to handle this kind of pup and training shouldn't be surprised. To our joy too, we've seen ZERO aggression issues that are not typical to all working dogs with good size and energy levels. Anything that has cropped up has been minor, and easily trained away early. This is a dog that was bred properly as a family / working dog, simple as that. After thinking back on the other negative reviews after our positive experience, it makes sense based on our experience with large dogs. (Our last pup was a 180lb mastiff rescue also.) To make an analogy, buying one of these dogs is similar to purchasing a high powered Corvette or a 3-ton pickup truck. Make sure you learn how to drive it before you buy, and make sure you know how to train a pup before you get one of this size. Puppies don't train themselves. I can't stress enough though- this is an INTELLIGENT, KIND, LOVING, TEACHABLE puppy. A word on Andrew as well. We had several phone conversations with him prior to purchase. He was professional and in every way extremely up front and blunt about everything, in a good way. Super nice and patient guy, straightforward, and everything he described about the pup has been fully consistent with what we've found. He's also super honest about the breed. If you train it right, it's the best family dog / working dog you can buy. If you don't know how to train a pup, you're going to have issues and potential aggression. (Which is true for mastiffs and chihuahuas both!) In hindsight, I sincerely appreciate the way Andrew worked with us, answered in depth questions over several occasions, and was willing to be very detailed about his work. He was honest in everything he said. He's a farmer who breeds good, simple dogs. I would wholeheartedly trust him and recommend him to anyone qualified to have a puppy. After just a few weeks with Argus, he socializing incredibly well with other dogs and people. He's housetrained (for now - teething is just around the corner), and already knows basic commands (sit, come, no). He's super loving, and just wants to play. Great guy, great pups, couldn't recommend more highly. Would gladly be a reference. UPDATE: After over a year, Argus is as great as ever! Healthy pup, definitely energetic. KIND and loves to cuddle. People-oriented. At 18 months he 32 inches at the withers and 155 lbs - definitely a dog who needs a yard and daily engagement / exercise. Extremely teachable, heels great even on crowded trails. Smart dog. Can be protective on command, but perfectly comfortable without aggression issues in a crowd of people. If you train early and properly, this is a healthy, loving, fantastic companion!!!

    Kids with Major(right/male)and Rebel(left/female) at 8 weeks ~20lbs.

We recently picked up two puppies(Major and Rebel) from Andrew. We flew up to pick up the puppies this last weekend. Andrew was very personable and took us and our kids on a tour around The property. I really liked that he gave each dog several acres of space to run and didn't lock them up in tiny kennels like many breeders. I was amazed at how well behaved all of his dogs were. I will say that his dogs are much larger in person than they appear in his YouTube videos. My wife, kids(11,13), and I all had a great experience. The mix we selected was 50% Boerboel, 25% Kangal, 12.5% Dogo, and 12.5% Dane with the parents being Country and Homefree. I will post an update once they get a little older around temperament/size.

Stumbled across Andrew and his dogs by accident. Really glad we did, we have Sugar Ray who was one of the picks of the litter from country x sweetthing match. Couldn't ask for a more awesome dog. Zero dog aggression even with other dogs that want to pick a fight. Fantastic and so gentle with all sizes of kids. When we go to the park the kids treat him like a celebrity and he loves the attention. Smart, trainable and insanely athletic.

I purchased my dog from Andrew over two years ago. She's been nothing but incredible! Working with Andrew was a pleasure! He knows these breeds and he's very honest on his website that these dogs aren't for everyone! Do your research!! I brought my girl home when she was eight weeks old. She learned quickly and adjusted to our family life. We worked with a behaviorist from the beginning though, instead of waiting for a problem to arise. I have four young kids, 10 years old and younger. She is amazing with them! She loves people big and small! And as long as she is introduced to other dogs properly she does fine. She will guard our home from strangers or the pool guy but as soon as I welcome someone in she's all love. It's too bad some people had bad experiences. Mine was and continues to be great though! Would recommend Andrew and his dogs a million times over!

I am saddened and angry to read about so many Olympic Dog owners that chose to euthanize their dogs vs. search for every option possible to make things better for their families and their dogs. I have TWO Olympic Dogs from Andrew. Rahj is 8 years old and is a KangalxBoerboel Mix and Katara which is a BoerboelxDogoxDane mix and she will be three this March. First and foremost DO NOT purchase a Kangal/Boerboel/Dogo or any dog from Olympic dogs if you are not fully prepared for the work and dedication that it is going to take to raise and incorporate your dog that has been bred for thousands of years as a guard dog that is bred to protect families and herds from dangerous animals like Lions, Bears and then dangerous humans. So with that knowledge going into taking a pup home because its cute and you think will behave like a labrador retriever is naive and absurd. I adopted Rahj when he was 4 months old from Andrew and was he a ton of work yes. Did I take him to puppy training and all of the standard A-typical training we take our american breed type dogs yes. His dog aggression showed up when he was 6 months old, did he try to dominate every dog at the dog park? yes. I hired two separate dog trainers and they told me that Rahj was a dog that was dangerous and was not trainable. Did I take him to be euthanized because he became to much. NO. I do not give up. He is apart of my family and I knew that I had to readjust my approach to training him. I then hired a dog trainer that trained guard dogs and police dogs that understood the mind set and the best approach to dogs who have been bred as Security for families and flocks. Sean at www.seattlefamilydogtraining.com did something that none of the other trainers did. He trained ME. He trained me to be the ALPHA in my home because dogs of this caliber will always test and try to become ALPHA. He taught me how to handle and act in scenarios with Rahj and also educated me to stop thinking of him as some golden retriever lab type dog. Kangals and Boerboels have been around for almost 2000 years and have been bred for security. We got Rahj because we wanted a security type dog but also a family dog. Kangals and Boerboels are known for being excellent guard dogs but even better nurturers and lovers of the flocks that they watch over. With all of the knowledge that I learned from Andrew and Sean, I raised an amazing dog. Does he still need to dominate other males if I let him, yes. Is he allowed to? No. Andrew will be the first to tell you that Male Kangals do not naturally do well with other males, thats because per flock is usually one male and one female. Thats it. So with that information I wanted Rahj to have a playmate and we picked up an adorable all black Boerboel/Dogo/Dane mix and we named her Katara. We muzzled Rahj until he adjusted being around her and now they are the best of friends and refuse to go anywhere without the other close by. Katara is the sweetest pup which is why we went for a Boerboel. Boerboels are known to be overly loving and sweet dogs but like all X-Large breeds and guard dog breeds they will try you as an owner to see if you are not an alpha. I am 5'3 and 140lbs and Rahj is 162lbs and Katara is 134lbs, I walk the both of them together. ME. Almost 300lbs worth of dog and they walk by my side unless I let them go ahead of me. It doesn't matter what size you are.I have two highly trained dogs. Does Rahj periodically growl at other dogs at our walks?Yes. Does he act on it? No. My dogs are my family and euthanizing is never an answer. My husband and I love our dogs and are so confident in our abilities as pack leaders we just rescued a GSD puppy and she is a female. Now I have 3 dogs that are naturally trained as security/guard/work dogs, and like I did for the first two I called Sean for training refreshers and we are well on our way. For as long as I have Rahj I will only ever get female dogs, because that is what the breed is accustomed to being around. Did you all not see Andrews farm and how the males were separated? Please Please Please research what you are getting into they are not goldens and labs they are heavy duty work dogs that are very loving. If you are looking for a family friendly guard dog you are at the right place, just please do your research and get the right training from the beginning. If you want the dogs because they are good looking and big these are not the dogs for you! DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST and LOOK INTO ALL OF YOUR OPTIONS FOR TRAINING. If you are unhappy call Andrew and he will walk you through it or take the dog back. For me this was not about just getting any dog, this was looking for a companion that brought more to the table then just love and affection. Will I be back to get my third and fourth Olympic Dog? YES. If you are frustrated and think you have no options please call Sean at Seattle Family Dog Training. He has the best background and because of me is familiar with all of the breeds.

It is deeply disappointing to read the negative feedback for Andrew's program here. Given my experience with the farm, the dogs, and OUR Olympic Farm Dog, one can only assume that either grave stupidity or abject deception is at work here. After two years of research, we decided we were finally ready to welcome a dog into our home. In all that time, we kept coming back to Andrew's website to admire his program and those amazing dogs. My husband, knowing that I have never had a dog, and that I would be the primary caretaker, was careful in choosing an animal that has qualities that would make it easy for me to be successful. I couldn't have asked for better than Otis (formerly Sasquatch, offspring of Country and Blue). Given my inexperience, Andrew was careful to make sure that we were a good fit for the dog, which I appreciated. I don't think puppy mills show the same concern. Otis is a dream, and has all the qualities that Andrew discusses in his videos and website. He is "sticky", a trait that I really like; he is gentle with everyone, especially kids; has a low prey drive; is completely non-aggressive with other dogs and makes new friends every day on our walks. He alerts when appropriate, and wags when it's not. Other people compliment Otis on his calm demeanor and friendliness constantly. And seriously, he's one of the most physically beautiful dogs I've seen. Truly, if you've been looking at these dogs, but are put off by the nasty reviews, don't be. Go out and look at them for yourself. They're lovely creatures. All I can figure is that the bad reviews are malicious lies or the work of morons. I've never had a dog before, and I'm having a very successful experience with this one. He is loyal and loving and all other things one could want in a dog (unless you want independence). If I had known how positive this experience would be, I'd have gotten an Olympic Farm Dog years ago.

Luna our wonderful Kangal X. Shes a true Angel

These dogs are amazing to own. We purchased a Kangal X from Andrew about 2 years ago and couldn't be happier. She is the most sweet, loving, and calm dog we own. She does fantastic with kids and hasn't meet someone she doesnt like. She is close to 130+lbs and is a complete gentle giant. Andrew was great to work with and we would buy another from him if we had room. We have def become Kangal X fans thanks to Andrew and his great breeding combos. We also have a horse farm and Luna is wonderful with the horses and plays great with other dogs her size. She is also wonderful in our home. She is calm, listens, and doesn't get cabin fever unlike our gsd. I cant talk more highly about these dogs. We felt they were well priced also for the dog you get. We both spend a lot of time with our dogs. They are our children pretty much and get tons of love and attention and Luna has fit into our family perfectly. Again these are wonderful dogs. I did a lot of research on kangals before we got Luna to make sure she was a great fit for us and all I can say is she's been better than we ever could have imagined. I cant speak for the other reviews on here, but the negative reviews couldn't be any further from the truth. Luna has been an amazing dog and we wouldn't trade her for anything. She has never shown any signs of aggression to anyone. When we visited Andrews ranch, we met all his dogs. They were all very calm, friendly and accepting of us immediately, even with their small puppies running around. We highly recommend Andrew and his dogs and would be happy to answer any questions. THANK YOU, ANDREW, FOR BREEDING SUCH LOVING, CARING AND FANTASTIC DOGS!!

We have a 2.5 yr old Kangal/Boerboel/Dogo male mix from Olympic dog. Our dog is a wonderful and sweet member of our family. However, he is a very instinctual animal and has thousands of years of selective breeding for protecting farms and families from various threats. If you are expecting a dog that will be the neighborhood cupcake, these dogs (which average 140-170 lbs), may not be for you. You must train well and maintain your alpha position. Our dog is often very obstinate, so its a continued project They are smart, strong, and devoted. Great dogs but be very aware of what you are getting yourself into.

This is what one of the "Olympic Dogs" did to a child.

Add me to the list of owners who have had a bad experience with Olympic Dogs. I got a dog from Andrew and, like others here, I had a great time meeting him and initially with the dog. However, again like others here, the dog went bad on me. I don't want to get into the specifics of exactly how the dog went bad, but we tried every possible thing to keep him and our family safe. I'm trying to attach a picture of what this dog did to my kiddo. I know a lot of people have had great experiences with these dogs and I wish I was one of them, but I was one of the unlucky ones I guess. If you think it's ok for a guy to sell dogs to families and then have them attack people and kids then this is the right place for you. If you want a good family dog, 1 would stay away from this back yard breeder if I was you.

Saxon, our very gentle giant. A walking ambassador for Andrew's breeding program and the nature of the dogs he breeds.
    Jared F.

It sickens me reading the blatant smear campaign that some of these people are perpetuating on here, and that these cowards put down dogs that deserved both their lives and better owners than they had. I've had mastiffs for years, and they're not for everyone. Andrew is the first person that will tell you that. He's also a smart and honest dogman who loves his dogs - watch any of his videos, talk to him, or go visit his farm, and you'll see that. He also has children, who you will also see handle and interact with these so-called "vicious" dogs without so much as a nip or a growl from even one of them. We got Saxon from Andrew about a year ago. Half-Boerboel, quarter-Great Dane and quarter-Dogo Argentino. He is already one of the best dogs we've ever owned, a true gentle giant who adores children and who has already earned his Canine Good Citizen certificate. We're actually considering training him as a therapy dog - that's how good he is with people. Andrew is none of the things these people say he is. Check the unrecommended reviews - you'll notice they are all positive ones. This is a character assassination by liars and cowards. I'd buy more dogs from Andrew in a heartbeat, and fully intend to do just that in the future.

    Shes not spoiled. lol
