To anyone considering an Olympic Dog from Andrew J: I was referred to his website by my father (shocking that this anachronist found anything on the net). He said, "I spent several hours last night perusing a website ... There is a lot of content and it speaks exactly to the conversation we've been having in front of fireplaces and wood stoves for 20 years regarding how we'd create our perfect dog." Now, I don't require convincing when it comes to the subject of "hybrid-vigor" or "selective pressure." I spent an evening and read every word on Andrew's website. The next day my Dad and I spoke and compared notes. We were both intrigued. So I called Andrew and we spoke for an extended period on the phone. Perhaps more than once. He eventually sent me pictures of one of his two "keepers" of his first Kangal/Dogo cross. The picture spoke to me and I found myself on a flight to Seattle. Then drove a rental and rode a couple ferries until I made my way to his goat ranch/farm on a wet grey afternoon, a few miles south of Port Townsend. Dogs, goats, chickens and cats ... There was a lot of life. I met "Zorba" at about 16 weeks ... Met the dogs that sired Zorba (Oz and Negretcha) pictures of all may be found on Andrew's site. I knew he was for us. Andrew delivered him to our Place on the Scott River a couple weeks later. So what did we get? Zorba had never seen a river before. While the whole family enjoyed our favorite swimming hole on the Scott as a respite from the summer heat, Zorba did just what you would expect a puppy to do ... He ran back and forth splashing and having a ball , snapping his puppy jaws at every splash before him ... and then, I watched him do something unexpected ... he walked out into the river up to his chest, and stuck his head underwater and looked around.... This was the first clue that we might have a "thinking dog." By the way, I do not believe that intelligence is important or even necessarily a good thing when talking about family dogs. We continued to see "raccoon-like" intelligence from Zorba as he quickly learned to open latched doors and gates. I was really startled when I watched him learn how to catch squirrels running along the top of our chain-link fence, not by following, but by beating them to where they were headed and then throwing his shoulder against the fence and spilling them into his territory.... So back to what did we get? Zorba is a handsome hound ... 31" at the shoulder and a hard, fast 130 pounds. Has never met a person he did not like, male or female, toddler on up. He's presided over BBQs where we had 50 guests and made friends with everyone so inclined. He is extremely affectionate and demonstrative when he wants to be ... Laying his head in your lap or burying it in your chest ... I have fallen asleep with my head on his chest and woken up hours later ... He was "jake" with it. From the moment he joined our family, he has watched out for my wife and son (now 8, he was two and a half when Zorba joined us) ... If they are in different ends of the house, he's in the middle with an ear cocked. He follows them both around and is frequently under foot in the kitchen. Now, the other side, Zorba exhibits significant "prey drive" ... He does not abide non-human interlopers in his back yard, not flies, bees, or wasps (he's eaten hundreds with no ill effects) ... not rabbits, squirrels or rats ... We've found them all ... Intact, slobbery and still ... Not coyotes (we live in an area over populated with coyotes and frequently visited by lions). My wife watched him chase down and get ahold of his first coyote at the age of 12 months. He barks at hawks and ravens when they intrude on his airspace (at altitudes of 200-300 feet). Now for all that prey drive, the first time he encountered a rattler, he stayed about 12 feet away and barked a strange constant alarm bark we had never heard before (or since). We spend some time (never enough) on family land with no neighbors and no roads ... ingress is a cable car across a 250 foot span of river ... While we have less than 300 acres and a mile and a half of frontage on a wild & scenic river, we back up to the Marble Mountain Wilderness and might as well have 10,000 acres ... Four wild salmon runs per year, tons of deer and bear, at least one lion, eagles, ospreys and goshawks. I've never had a moment of doubt turning the combination of dog and boy loose on their own to explore The Place.... Are we happy with our choice? Without a doubt. Would I prefer less dog aggression, yes. Would we trade him, never. Greg B.

Let me first say before I write this review that we did extensive research on Andrew and Olympic Dogs, including reading all of the negative reviews on him and the aggression potential of his breedings. That said, after several conversations and much research we chose to proceed, and I am very, very happy that we did!!! We got a 12 week old Boerbel / Kangal / Dane / Dogo from Andrew, who we've since named Argus, and he's as healthy as ever! At 14 weeks he's already nearing 35 lbs! A word on temperament... this dog is a typical puppy. Keep in mind, at this size, there is the brain of a 90 day old puppy in a 30 lb dog's body... which is both fun and more than a little hectic (but very worth it). Anyone who is qualified to handle this kind of pup and training shouldn't be surprised. To our joy too, we've seen ZERO aggression issues that are not typical to all working dogs with good size and energy levels. Anything that has cropped up has been minor, and easily trained away early. This is a dog that was bred properly as a family / working dog, simple as that. After thinking back on the other negative reviews after our positive experience, it makes sense based on our experience with large dogs. (Our last pup was a 180lb mastiff rescue also.) To make an analogy, buying one of these dogs is similar to purchasing a high powered Corvette or a 3-ton pickup truck. Make sure you learn how to drive it before you buy, and make sure you know how to train a pup before you get one of this size. Puppies don't train themselves. I can't stress enough though- this is an INTELLIGENT, KIND, LOVING, TEACHABLE puppy. A word on Andrew as well. We had several phone conversations with him prior to purchase. He was professional and in every way extremely up front and blunt about everything, in a good way. Super nice and patient guy, straightforward, and everything he described about the pup has been fully consistent with what we've found. He's also super honest about the breed. If you train it right, it's the best family dog / working dog you can buy. If you don't know how to train a pup, you're going to have issues and potential aggression. (Which is true for mastiffs and chihuahuas both!) In hindsight, I sincerely appreciate the way Andrew worked with us, answered in depth questions over several occasions, and was willing to be very detailed about his work. He was honest in everything he said. He's a farmer who breeds good, simple dogs. I would wholeheartedly trust him and recommend him to anyone qualified to have a puppy. After just a few weeks with Argus, he socializing incredibly well with other dogs and people. He's housetrained (for now - teething is just around the corner), and already knows basic commands (sit, come, no). He's super loving, and just wants to play. Great guy, great pups, couldn't recommend more highly. Would gladly be a reference. UPDATE: After over a year, Argus is as great as ever! Healthy pup, definitely energetic. KIND and loves to cuddle. People-oriented. At 18 months he 32 inches at the withers and 155 lbs - definitely a dog who needs a yard and daily engagement / exercise. Extremely teachable, heels great even on crowded trails. Smart dog. Can be protective on command, but perfectly comfortable without aggression issues in a crowd of people. If you train early and properly, this is a healthy, loving, fantastic companion!!!

We recently picked up two puppies(Major and Rebel) from Andrew. We flew up to pick up the puppies this last weekend. Andrew was very personable and took us and our kids on a tour around The property. I really liked that he gave each dog several acres of space to run and didn't lock them up in tiny kennels like many breeders. I was amazed at how well behaved all of his dogs were. I will say that his dogs are much larger in person than they appear in his YouTube videos. My wife, kids(11,13), and I all had a great experience. The mix we selected was 50% Boerboel, 25% Kangal, 12.5% Dogo, and 12.5% Dane with the parents being Country and Homefree. I will post an update once they get a little older around temperament/size.

Stumbled across Andrew and his dogs by accident. Really glad we did, we have Sugar Ray who was one of the picks of the litter from country x sweetthing match. Couldn't ask for a more awesome dog. Zero dog aggression even with other dogs that want to pick a fight. Fantastic and so gentle with all sizes of kids. When we go to the park the kids treat him like a celebrity and he loves the attention. Smart, trainable and insanely athletic.

I purchased my dog from Andrew over two years ago. She's been nothing but incredible! Working with Andrew was a pleasure! He knows these breeds and he's very honest on his website that these dogs aren't for everyone! Do your research!! I brought my girl home when she was eight weeks old. She learned quickly and adjusted to our family life. We worked with a behaviorist from the beginning though, instead of waiting for a problem to arise. I have four young kids, 10 years old and younger. She is amazing with them! She loves people big and small! And as long as she is introduced to other dogs properly she does fine. She will guard our home from strangers or the pool guy but as soon as I welcome someone in she's all love. It's too bad some people had bad experiences. Mine was and continues to be great though! Would recommend Andrew and his dogs a million times over!

I am saddened and angry to read about so many Olympic Dog owners that chose to euthanize their dogs vs. search for every option possible to make things better for their families and their dogs. I have TWO Olympic Dogs from Andrew. Rahj is 8 years old and is a KangalxBoerboel Mix and Katara which is a BoerboelxDogoxDane mix and she will be three this March. First and foremost DO NOT purchase a Kangal/Boerboel/Dogo or any dog from Olympic dogs if you are not fully prepared for the work and dedication that it is going to take to raise and incorporate your dog that has been bred for thousands of years as a guard dog that is bred to protect families and herds from dangerous animals like Lions, Bears and then dangerous humans. So with that knowledge going into taking a pup home because its cute and you think will behave like a labrador retriever is naive and absurd. I adopted Rahj when he was 4 months old from Andrew and was he a ton of work yes. Did I take him to puppy training and all of the standard A-typical training we take our american breed type dogs yes. His dog aggression showed up when he was 6 months old, did he try to dominate every dog at the dog park? yes. I hired two separate dog trainers and they told me that Rahj was a dog that was dangerous and was not trainable. Did I take him to be euthanized because he became to much. NO. I do not give up. He is apart of my family and I knew that I had to readjust my approach to training him. I then hired a dog trainer that trained guard dogs and police dogs that understood the mind set and the best approach to dogs who have been bred as Security for families and flocks. Sean at www.seattlefamilydogtraining.com did something that none of the other trainers did. He trained ME. He trained me to be the ALPHA in my home because dogs of this caliber will always test and try to become ALPHA. He taught me how to handle and act in scenarios with Rahj and also educated me to stop thinking of him as some golden retriever lab type dog. Kangals and Boerboels have been around for almost 2000 years and have been bred for security. We got Rahj because we wanted a security type dog but also a family dog. Kangals and Boerboels are known for being excellent guard dogs but even better nurturers and lovers of the flocks that they watch over. With all of the knowledge that I learned from Andrew and Sean, I raised an amazing dog. Does he still need to dominate other males if I let him, yes. Is he allowed to? No. Andrew will be the first to tell you that Male Kangals do not naturally do well with other males, thats because per flock is usually one male and one female. Thats it. So with that information I wanted Rahj to have a playmate and we picked up an adorable all black Boerboel/Dogo/Dane mix and we named her Katara. We muzzled Rahj until he adjusted being around her and now they are the best of friends and refuse to go anywhere without the other close by. Katara is the sweetest pup which is why we went for a Boerboel. Boerboels are known to be overly loving and sweet dogs but like all X-Large breeds and guard dog breeds they will try you as an owner to see if you are not an alpha. I am 5'3 and 140lbs and Rahj is 162lbs and Katara is 134lbs, I walk the both of them together. ME. Almost 300lbs worth of dog and they walk by my side unless I let them go ahead of me. It doesn't matter what size you are.I have two highly trained dogs. Does Rahj periodically growl at other dogs at our walks?Yes. Does he act on it? No. My dogs are my family and euthanizing is never an answer. My husband and I love our dogs and are so confident in our abilities as pack leaders we just rescued a GSD puppy and she is a female. Now I have 3 dogs that are naturally trained as security/guard/work dogs, and like I did for the first two I called Sean for training refreshers and we are well on our way. For as long as I have Rahj I will only ever get female dogs, because that is what the breed is accustomed to being around. Did you all not see Andrews farm and how the males were separated? Please Please Please research what you are getting into they are not goldens and labs they are heavy duty work dogs that are very loving. If you are looking for a family friendly guard dog you are at the right place, just please do your research and get the right training from the beginning. If you want the dogs because they are good looking and big these are not the dogs for you! DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST and LOOK INTO ALL OF YOUR OPTIONS FOR TRAINING. If you are unhappy call Andrew and he will walk you through it or take the dog back. For me this was not about just getting any dog, this was looking for a companion that brought more to the table then just love and affection. Will I be back to get my third and fourth Olympic Dog? YES. If you are frustrated and think you have no options please call Sean at Seattle Family Dog Training. He has the best background and because of me is familiar with all of the breeds.

It is deeply disappointing to read the negative feedback for Andrew's program here. Given my experience with the farm, the dogs, and OUR Olympic Farm Dog, one can only assume that either grave stupidity or abject deception is at work here. After two years of research, we decided we were finally ready to welcome a dog into our home. In all that time, we kept coming back to Andrew's website to admire his program and those amazing dogs. My husband, knowing that I have never had a dog, and that I would be the primary caretaker, was careful in choosing an animal that has qualities that would make it easy for me to be successful. I couldn't have asked for better than Otis (formerly Sasquatch, offspring of Country and Blue). Given my inexperience, Andrew was careful to make sure that we were a good fit for the dog, which I appreciated. I don't think puppy mills show the same concern. Otis is a dream, and has all the qualities that Andrew discusses in his videos and website. He is "sticky", a trait that I really like; he is gentle with everyone, especially kids; has a low prey drive; is completely non-aggressive with other dogs and makes new friends every day on our walks. He alerts when appropriate, and wags when it's not. Other people compliment Otis on his calm demeanor and friendliness constantly. And seriously, he's one of the most physically beautiful dogs I've seen. Truly, if you've been looking at these dogs, but are put off by the nasty reviews, don't be. Go out and look at them for yourself. They're lovely creatures. All I can figure is that the bad reviews are malicious lies or the work of morons. I've never had a dog before, and I'm having a very successful experience with this one. He is loyal and loving and all other things one could want in a dog (unless you want independence). If I had known how positive this experience would be, I'd have gotten an Olympic Farm Dog years ago.

These dogs are amazing to own. We purchased a Kangal X from Andrew about 2 years ago and couldn't be happier. She is the most sweet, loving, and calm dog we own. She does fantastic with kids and hasn't meet someone she doesnt like. She is close to 130+lbs and is a complete gentle giant. Andrew was great to work with and we would buy another from him if we had room. We have def become Kangal X fans thanks to Andrew and his great breeding combos. We also have a horse farm and Luna is wonderful with the horses and plays great with other dogs her size. She is also wonderful in our home. She is calm, listens, and doesn't get cabin fever unlike our gsd. I cant talk more highly about these dogs. We felt they were well priced also for the dog you get. We both spend a lot of time with our dogs. They are our children pretty much and get tons of love and attention and Luna has fit into our family perfectly. Again these are wonderful dogs. I did a lot of research on kangals before we got Luna to make sure she was a great fit for us and all I can say is she's been better than we ever could have imagined. I cant speak for the other reviews on here, but the negative reviews couldn't be any further from the truth. Luna has been an amazing dog and we wouldn't trade her for anything. She has never shown any signs of aggression to anyone. When we visited Andrews ranch, we met all his dogs. They were all very calm, friendly and accepting of us immediately, even with their small puppies running around. We highly recommend Andrew and his dogs and would be happy to answer any questions. THANK YOU, ANDREW, FOR BREEDING SUCH LOVING, CARING AND FANTASTIC DOGS!!

We have a 2.5 yr old Kangal/Boerboel/Dogo male mix from Olympic dog. Our dog is a wonderful and sweet member of our family. However, he is a very instinctual animal and has thousands of years of selective breeding for protecting farms and families from various threats. If you are expecting a dog that will be the neighborhood cupcake, these dogs (which average 140-170 lbs), may not be for you. You must train well and maintain your alpha position. Our dog is often very obstinate, so its a continued project They are smart, strong, and devoted. Great dogs but be very aware of what you are getting yourself into.

Add me to the list of owners who have had a bad experience with Olympic Dogs. I got a dog from Andrew and, like others here, I had a great time meeting him and initially with the dog. However, again like others here, the dog went bad on me. I don't want to get into the specifics of exactly how the dog went bad, but we tried every possible thing to keep him and our family safe. I'm trying to attach a picture of what this dog did to my kiddo. I know a lot of people have had great experiences with these dogs and I wish I was one of them, but I was one of the unlucky ones I guess. If you think it's ok for a guy to sell dogs to families and then have them attack people and kids then this is the right place for you. If you want a good family dog, 1 would stay away from this back yard breeder if I was you.

It sickens me reading the blatant smear campaign that some of these people are perpetuating on here, and that these cowards put down dogs that deserved both their lives and better owners than they had. I've had mastiffs for years, and they're not for everyone. Andrew is the first person that will tell you that. He's also a smart and honest dogman who loves his dogs - watch any of his videos, talk to him, or go visit his farm, and you'll see that. He also has children, who you will also see handle and interact with these so-called "vicious" dogs without so much as a nip or a growl from even one of them. We got Saxon from Andrew about a year ago. Half-Boerboel, quarter-Great Dane and quarter-Dogo Argentino. He is already one of the best dogs we've ever owned, a true gentle giant who adores children and who has already earned his Canine Good Citizen certificate. We're actually considering training him as a therapy dog - that's how good he is with people. Andrew is none of the things these people say he is. Check the unrecommended reviews - you'll notice they are all positive ones. This is a character assassination by liars and cowards. I'd buy more dogs from Andrew in a heartbeat, and fully intend to do just that in the future.

Wonderful experience purchasing from this breeder. Loved being able to tour the ranch and meet all the breeds. Our puppy is healthy, sweet as pie, amazing with our other large dogs, and LOVES children. He has so much personality and cracks us up all day with his antics. I highly recommend this breeder, everything he claimed in his puppy videos about what to expect with the breed was true. Can't wait to see how big he gets! read more

We got our pup (Dane X mastiff mix) when Andrew/Olympic dogs was really just starting out. She is 15 and I believe the best dog we've had. She is 120lbs give or take of pure love. While I don't like the attitude we were given when arriving to pick her up (she was different than the rest of the dogs and so he didn't "want" her and we ended up getting a deal...best deal of our lives), I would get another dog from him. She is a sweet tempered pup with a heart of gold. And can you imagine she is 15. She will forever be in our hearts. read more

I had a terrible experience with Olympic dogs which ended with the animal being put down and the owner being extremely confrontational. I would highly recommend avoiding these dogs unless you're looking for an ULTRA aggressive dog who will attack people and other animals, and who is physically too large and athletic to control. I adopted a dog from Andrew a few years ago. I had been in contact with him and was intrigued by his description of the dogs as "famously good with kids," as well as their purported resistance to health issues. Andrew touts his dogs as large, easily trainable, family dogs who are also great guard dogs and livestock guardians, and who are healthy and long lived. He is a very persuasive salesman and he certainly breeds impressive looking animals. They are big, beautiful, and athletic, but unfortunately they are also deadly. My partner and I went with our two young children to meet the dogs out in Port Townsend. It was a cold day and we spent a lot of time out there meeting dogs. Andrew had several that he said would be a perfect fit for our family. At the time my kids were just under 3 and 1 years old and he met them and knew that we would be bringing the dog home to our home and that he would be living with us as a family. We walked around his paddock and met a lot of dogs. We did see some disturbing behavior out there, but Andrew explained it all away very deftly. Namely we saw two of his dogs begin to fight and him separate them by shooting them with a BB gun. He told his son to get the gun and assured us that this was all normal and part of dealing with big dogs who were physically far away and separated from him by electric fencing. We also witnessed him physically beat several of the dogs. Again this was very convincingly explained away as something you had to do with these types of breed to establish dominance and to correct behavior. Eventually we settled on a dog. He was 4 months old and had never been inside a home. Andrew assured us repeatedly that this was normal for him, that he had adopted hundreds of dogs just like this who went home to be perfect family companions. Eventually we settled on a price (not a cheap price at that) and we took the puppy home. At first everything was good. Our dog was sweet and responded to training well. But as he matured and grew he began to have aggression issues. Despite our extensive work with trainers and dog behavior specialists, and despite our even more extensive work in socializing our dog he became increasingly aggressive with other dogs. I called Andrew about this and his response was that these dogs are aggressive and that he wouldn't breed or sell a dog that wasn't willing and able to kill another dog. This was the polar opposite of what he said when he was getting to know me and my family and when he was selling us the dog. I have a lot of experience with so called 'aggressive breeds. I have owned Pit Bulls, Rottwiellers, German Shepards, Boxers, etc. so I wasn't overly concerned. This wasn't what I wanted but it was livable. We took efforts to keep our, now huge and aggressive, dog away from other dogs whilst still allowing him playdates with the few dogs he got along with. We also began working on more training and tried our best to help him have a good and happy life, and for a time it worked. Unfortunately the aggression was not limited to dogs and other animals. The sad fact is that no matter how much we worked with the dog, no matter how much effort, care, instruction...no matter which professionals attempted to help us he became human aggressive. First he growled at our youngest child. Then he snapped at our older child. Eventually he bit. He bit our boy in the head, breaking the skin, drawing blood and requiring stitches. He attacked housemates and would not be subdued. After this we met with a very well respected dog behavior specialist who deals with troubled dogs. We attempted to find our puppy a home where he wouldn't be a danger to himself or others. We called every rescue we could find and eventually had to face the reality that this was a dangerous animal who had to be put down. I called Andrew. His response was, "have you tried hitting the dog more?" After an interval I called again and his response was markedly less polite. He told me that this wasn't his problem. He told me that he made no guarantee for behavior, just genetics (meaning, in his opinion, health) and even though our dog was having serious unresolved skin issues and other health problems Andrew assured me the dog was sound. The last time I called him he told me, in so many words, to shove it, though he used less polite words. So our story ended in tragedy. Our dog had attacked multiple people and numerous dogs. We had tried everything remotely possible to help his behavior, to help the dog, to rehome him...to no avail. He was put to sleep and Andrew cared not all. Avoid Olympic Dogs. Do not do business with Andrew Johnston. read more

Would recommend Andrew and his dogs a million times over! read more

He has the best background and because of me is familiar with all of the breeds. read more

If I had known how positive this experience would be, I'd have gotten an Olympic Farm Dog years ago. read more

THANK YOU, ANDREW, FOR BREEDING SUCH LOVING, CARING AND FANTASTIC DOGS!! read more

Great dogs but be very aware of what you are getting yourself into. read more

Our "quatro" olympic dog is going on 4 years now. When we are ready to add another dog it will be from Andrew. We live on a small farm and wanted a farm dog and have considerable experience training hunting dogs and working with LGDs. Our puppy from Andrew was exactly as described and expected. She is incredibly well trained and protective of our farm and family. Coyotes only come around to verify she is still on gaurd- one bark from her and they are on their way. She's surprised us with her instincts more than once, I didn't teach he to tree raccoons but she's protected the chickens and ducks and held the raccoon in the tree until she had our attention. We love her energy level- unlike a laborador she is content to patrol the yard. I like to take her on walks with me for my own protection but she protests if I try to take he on a second walk for the day- it's so funny to me coming from dogs with insatiable energy needs. She is polite on a leash and we take her hiking with us without any problems. She follows commands to ignore female dogs and tiny dogs that agitate her and loves to greet male dogs. She was more trainable on that front than other common LGDs I've worked with. She's so smart and has such loyalty and cooperation with me I swear I could train her to do just about anything. She loves kids more than anything in the world. If she has one fault it's that she would like to hang with the kids instead of guarding the animals if she had to choose. We live more than a mile away from our nearest neighbor and it gives me peace of mind to know she is on guard outside. She alerts me if someone is around that shouldn't be and also accepts my direction that our same UPS guy that comes from time to time is A-ok. He is allowed in the yard by her, random strangers get the message to wait by the gate. Is she a dog park dog?- No and she was never sold as such, though given her intelligence and if she were fixed I think it could be done with the right training. She really is the perfect dog for us. Andrew has done a great job. read more

If you want a good family dog, 1 would stay away from this back yard breeder if I was you. read more

I'd buy more dogs from Andrew in a heartbeat, and fully intend to do just that in the future. read more

If you want your heart to be broken and your wallet to be poorer by all means purchase a dog from Andrew. We got Hooch at 4 months, which is Endo's littermate. At first he was adjusting to life with our family and toddlers, our walks were mellow and nice. After 12 months, Hooch skin issues was costing us multiple trips to the vet. Not including Hooch's intolerance to other dogs. At first it would be one dog Hooch would bark and want to attack. So I would say oh Hooch you just don't like poodles. Then like a faucet turned on, it was ALL DOGS, Hooch wanted to kill them all. At one point, I had a walked with Hooch and kids with the stroller to a local park. Hooch went to lay down and mistakenly I had tied his leash to the stroller and walked away for a second. Another dog had approached him from behind and as Hooch went to jump and attack the other dog, he dragged the stroller 30 feet with a child strapped inside. Luckily my kiddo was ok, a little scared, but ok. We had to euthanize Hooch because of his aggressive and dominate behavior. We met with a dog behaviorist and they said Hooch could possibly be a junk yard dog. NOT a family dog! NOT an indoor dog! NOT good with children! This is the exact opposite of what Andrew told sold us on, he said yes good with children, yes good family dog, yes good indoor dog. All lies. I wish I could leave a ZERO star rating. Thank you to Andrew owner of Olympic Dogs for lying and selling us a dangerous dog. It's an experience I'll never forget. read more

No no no! I loved my girl but she was dangerously aggressive with dogs. She was only 2 but at her size, I couldn't keep her alive any longer. Her aggressive behavior was starting to expand to children. She posed seriously liabilities, especially after attacking her only friend (my other dog) when I left town. Nor could I reconcile them upon returning. This had been coming since she was under a year and I recognized that she would never be trustworthy. Additionally, she had torn her ACL at 8 months. I am posting anonymously because the I fear the breeder will be vindictive. I take some responsibility for ignoring warning signs such as comments about the sire having had to be beaten into submission or having to wait until I disembarked the ferry to get directions to his property or the fact that one of the females had been recently attacked by another of his dogs. I also ignored negative comments from the person who came with me to pick my puppy because the pup was extraordinarily beautiful, the sweetest when she was sweet and most amusing. Putting her down was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I have owned and worked with difficult and challenging dogs in the past, but this girl was unworkable. Her aggression seemed to have come from genetics, not simple behavioral issues. I'm sure some of the dogs have grown up without negative traits, but for the investment of time, money and love, I strongly suggest against buying a puppy from this breeder. read more

My husband and I own Luna. Shes 2 1/2. Kangal Boerboel Cross. She is a fanastic dog. The best we have ever owned but I did alot of research on the breed and spend tons of time with her. They are extremely smart dogs but very strong and powerful and need an owner who will spend the time and training with them. They are not house dogs and are not meant to be locked up for hours on end. They need a large fenced yard and space to explore. They also need a dominate owner or a pack leader owner. I own large horses (draft crosses) so Luna has really been easy for us but I am aware of her and her strength and what the breed is capable of. They are protector dogs and need a job. If they are locked up or not properly socialized and trained ofcourse you might have a problem but any dog would. Its not natural for any dog to be locked up for hours on end. We as humans do that to them. They are intended to be socialized, loved, given freedom, trained, and giving a job. If you are looking for a great guardian and have land and have read about the breed and done your research you will find they are the most amazing dogs. My husband and I have a 4 month old baby. Luna has been absolutely wonderful with our baby. So kind, calm, and gentle. She is the best dog. She has become very protective of her. Great dogs but not for first time dog owners and you need space and land if you buy one. read more

I'm so glad to see these reviews under Anthony's post. We bought 2 Kangal/Boerboel crosses from Olympic dogs several years ago. They are the best Guardian dogs we've had. They don't wonder like the straight kangal and the half Boerboel half kangal was very willing to stay with our herd and even let a calf nurse from her. She guarded that calf night and day. Our 3/4 Boerboel was my best friend, instinctively kept the calves with their mothers, a job he joyed in. And herded my cows by creating a wall that was far more calming to them than my Border Collies running in. He even brought me pliers when he saw me working on fences. read more

Ranger is 4 years old. he is a boerboel - dogo argentino cross that I purchased from Andrew when my cane corso died. ranger is an exceptional dog. a genetic masterpiece with a well balanced personality. however, these dogs are not for everyone. don't think you're going to keep one in an apartment and rollerblade it over to the dog park. Ranger has never started an altercation with another dog but he will not tolerate aggression from another male dog. he is appropriately wary of strangers and I pity anyone who would try to enter my home without being accompanied by me. seriously folks, if you don't know how to handle a dog like that, get a labradoodle. read more

We have our second dog from Andrew and could not be happier. Rosie, our first, is eleven and has been a dream - easy to train, alert but not aggressive, fantastic with children (including my son born when Rosie was two.) She does get aggressive with other female dogs, but since we have never worked with her on this, I certainly can not blame her or her breeder. She is a farm dog and expected to stay on our property. We recently returned to Andrew for another dog. Our new puppy, Tank, is meeting the very high expectations we had after owning Rosie. He is healthy, calm, biddable, and smart. Our family is very pleased with him. These are BIG dogs and not for everyone. But if you have the right situation and the time to train thoroughly, you could not ask for a better dog. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Andrew J.
Yelp is currently not allowing me to respond to "reviews" on a site haters started, that I was forced to "claim" if I wanted to comment at all. I got one rebuttal in and they shut me down..... on "my" site.... unreal. Yelp continues to back page and discount genuine reviews by actual customers using their actual names while showcasing fake reviews from people admittedly using false names, multiple identities, and people who had no actual customer experience. I asked a few real customers to take a moment and they have. I could flood this P.O.S. site with good reviews, but I will not play along in a system that recommends reviews simply based on user ship of system. Some of us have better things to do then yelp, thank God. And I won't ask my loyal customers to further waste their time or accept the insult of having their honest reviews buried by a system whose only real concern is making more people use the system.

I started researching large dog breeders in 2000. I ride the back country and wanted a large dog that could keep up with and be a guardian to myself, the horses no campsite. One that wouldn't be off chasing every bird, rabbit, deer or skunk that crossed the trail. Olympicdog was reccomended to me, in 2010, by a packer who had purchased a bitch from Andrew Johnson. He told me that if I could get a dog from Andrew I would find the perfect high country companion. He was right, after much negotiation, I purchased my first dog Kai from Andrew in 2012. It was not easy to get one of his pups. He was very clear that he raised working dogs, that they were not pampered pets and if I wanted a couch puppy to buy a dog from someone else or better yet from the local humane society. His dogs are guardian breeds, smart, tough and used to guarding flocks, herds and homesteads from predators. Both two legged and four legged. Fiercely loyal and protective they have the size, strength, stamina and smarts to take on a much larger predator and prevail. But they must be trained from day one and if you have never owned a large working breed, trained a guardian dog or do not have the time, energy or space for these dogs..do not buy one. That being said, Olympicdogs live up to their breeders claims. My first dog Kai is so damn awesome some slimy pr*** stole him from my garage in the early hous on June 30 2013. He was 14 months old stood 34" at the shoulder and weighed 150lbs. We had him in training to not only be a trail companion and guardian but also to work with special needs kids. Kai has an affinity for kids with physical and emotional challenges. I am still searching for him.. And I will find him. God help the thief who stole him. In March of this year my sister bought two male pups by Endo out of Yesdum. Yesdum is Kai's full sister, same litter. Radar is a goof, loves people and has more energy than a daycare full of two year olds working off a sugar high. Trapper is serious about his role as guardian of all he surveys. I have taken them everywhere with us, camping, to the beach, park, the vets, groomers, doggy daycare. I have grandkids, and great grandkids, nieces and nephews and they all love the boys. Away from home they are perfect, if a little rambunctious, puppies. But at home they are all business when strangers come around or when I put them on guard and they have never bitten or injured anyone. They are trained to use threat posture to keep the danger back and if the threat does not work they will corner and guard or take down and hold.. I have no patience for liars, thieves or cowards. The people who set up this account in Andrew Johnsons name fall under all three categories. Liars, that part is self evident.. You lied by not using your real names, you led when you said you had the dogs to trainers and you liedwhen you said the breeder, Andrew Johnson coerced you into buying puppies from him. You are cowards for not posting under your own true names and putting up multiple posts pretending to be other people. And finally you are thieves for using slander and defaming remarks trying to exhort money from the breeder for supposedly selling you defective dogs. Those wonderful awesome dogs were not defective, their downfall was owners who were too lazy and ignorant to properly care for, train and cherish the gift that is the devotion of an Olympicdog. read more

Do not buy from Olympic dog's: Short version, he is breeding highly aggressive dogs who are not safe around children or other dogs, and who have major health problems. Long version I purchased a dog from Andrew in spring of 2013 1/2 boerboel, 1/4 kangal, 1/4 dogo we named him Bagheera. I told Andrew I would be keeping the dog with me at the gym I was the head coach for and he would be around kids and other dogs regularly, Andrew told me it would be good advertising for him. When Bagheera was 6 months old a friend of ours liked him enough to buy his half brother from a litter just a couple months younger. That dog was named Hooch he was 1/2 kangal 1/4 boerboel 1/4 dogo. We met another dog from the same breeder named Mouse at the dog park she was 1/2 boerboel, 1/4 kangal 1/4 dane, and we all started meeting up with our dogs. All have since had to be put to sleep. All because of aggression. Mouse passed away today At 9 months Bagheera became so aggresive with other male dogs he could not be taken to dog parks or walked off leash, at 105 lbs of very muscular dog, my wife could no longer walk him at all. At almost two years old he bit a friend of ours, then snapped at our daughter three weeks later, we consulted 3 behaviorists who all told us based on his history and behavior there was was no safe way to keep him or rehome him, we had him put to sleep. Additionally Bagheera had demodex and recurrent Knee sprains. At the same time Hooch had also become uncontrollable with other male dogs and a couple of weeks before Bagheera bit, Hooch bit his owners roomates 6 year old son, Hoochs owner worked with a behaviorist until even after we put Bagheera down but a few days after Bagheera went down Hooch went after two girls who were personal training clients of his owners for no apparent reason. He was put to sleep. Hooch also had weird coat problems. Mouse, was actually the earliest to have issues she became extremely aggressive to small dogs at 6 months old, but she never became people aggresive, however she ended up having to be put to sleep today because she almost killed her owners other dog, a dog the owner had adopted from a friend because it was the only dog who Mouse was still comfortable around. Mouse also tore her ACL at 18 months. I have also been told of at least 3 more dogs from this breeder who were likely put to sleep because of aggression through friends in the breeding and rescue networks. I don't know if these are bad mixes in general I do know that this breeder is breeding very large, powerful, extremely aggresive and unhealthy dogs and selling them as pets to families with small children. In addition having watched his site I know he bred from a female with an ACL tear, ACL tearing is considered genetically predisposed in dogs, he bred from a female from the same litter as my dog who had Demodex another genetic problem, and he is proudly announcing Hooch's brother Endo as the sire of many litters to come. read more

I did a lot of research and found myself coming back to Andrew's dogs everytime I did research. I considered importing, but I am so very happy that I did not. I never dreamed that I would find the exact combination of genetics that I was desiring, much less in the United States. As a Malabai (Askaray Malaklisi crossed with Alabai), he has grown considerably in just his first 8 months of life. While some desire a larger dog, I needed one for specific work to be easier and safer for my working canine. Due to all animals being different in development, and factors having impact that do not necessarily reflect the breeder directly, it would be unfair to mention his size now. Suffice to say, he exceeded this expectation so far and is maturing nicely, already exceeding many adults of the breeds of his genetical makeup. The highlight of this pup is his temperament, intelligence and work ethic. He simply does not accept failure as an option to any task. His intelligence has become quite impressive. He reasons and reacts accordingly almost with an instantaneous response. He has picked up normal simple obedience training easily as well. Since the first week of his arrival, he has never had an "accident". He has an inherent ability to instantly know the appropriate response to most scenarios he encounters. He came in great health, and his preliminary as well as subsequent veterinary appointments have impressed the DVM, with his development, health, demeanor as well as lack of issues often associated with giant breeds. Besides normal preventative care and immunizations, I have not had a need to supplement him with anything except love and high quality kibble to produce these results . Andrew is truly a pleasure to deal with and refreshingly honest about his animals. Unlike other breeders, he does not over-hype his dogs and allows the consumer to see the animals he produces and make their own judgements. He is also a wealth of information and I trust his genetics and breeding practices. He has literally traveled the world to insure the best possible genetically makeup for his animals. He was a pleasure to do business with and remained true in his word. If you are spending your hard earned money, and looking for the breeds and types of dogs which Olympic dogs breeds; Rest confidently that the utmost thought and care has went into providing intelligent dogs, of good size and temperament, backed by the health of breeding practices which help to insure that your dog is among the healthiest and most qualified for their jobs. In my case; my life literally depends on my dog. I am glad that I trusted Olympic dogs breeding program and I am excited to see what the future of Olympic dogs has in store. read more

Retired Law Enforcement. Looking for something new. My wife found Olympic and after suitable research, we visited then got one of Endo's boys. I rather find that Andrews results speak for themselves. The blatant and potentially litigious mistake of the person who started this Yelp account (you're now on MY radar twattwaffle....bank on it, I will gladly help his litigate needs).....is a travesty. I have dealt w felons for 17 years, and it never fails...someone,wants,something for nothing I have also been a,k9 handler since dirt was, technology. Jim, now 11 months, 33" 137lbs is an exceptional dog, and a beloved member of our family. We Take him everywhere. He NEVER fails to impress, people. Little kids, crazy noises....no matter. Even people we see at Home Depot type places, typically scared to death,of large dogs, get very useful contact w Jim. These false accusations by this anomalous asshat are not only BLATENT LIES, they are harming a man, that welcomed me into his home. He loves his life. Loves the breed. Knows his stuff. I hope these asshats die in a fire, because if they truly put down their dog, they deserve no accommodations from me. These dogs are sound, un-gentrified working dogs. I have NO TREPIDATION letting my 4 year old niece play with him, On him.....he is around our birds everyday.upwards of,100 chickens, 20 ducks and, also Turkey's. He iS EXACTLY WHAT Andrew said this litter would be. I would not hesitate to,send anyone Looking, for a working dog, right to him. I am appauled, livid and taking personally these bullshit attacks on Andrew and Olympic. SHAME ON YOU. I won't hide behind a computer screen like these reprobate do. If,you are so steadfast in your being a victim, step out into the light like a man and state your case. Otherwise....send your wife to me to get what she truly needs. I was referred to Olympic dogs by a family member who had owned two mastiff before. I was looking for an extremely healthy, smart dog, big in size, agile, easy to train, protective when needed and extremely friendly. Is exactly what I got. Osi is a mix kangal, dogo, Dane. And so far he has met all of my expectations. He is ready to learn and easy to train. I started working with him at 8 weeks, I introduced him to other dogs, kids and people in general. This made socialization very easy. He plays with kids all ages, small, big dogs. Except mean dogs. He was attacked, yes, believe that. By 2 mix labs and a terrier at a park. So, yes since this accident he growls at all of those mean dogs. Which can be any breed or size I come to learn taking to several canine coaches. Nice dogs he is nice to. I guess, much like people. No all dogs get along. Just like humans. But he tolerates and warns them. I read some of the reviews below and my only comment would be that if you do not live in a farm, which I don't, or have experience with big dogs. This may not be the right breed for you. Big active breeds require space and discipline. Therefore is important that you have experience or adequate help working with these kind of dogs. They are not like your typical English mastiff or great Dane. Which my family has had for years. I think I also read that someone tied the leash of the dog to their children stroller. My thoughts are that you should not tied a Chihuahua to your children stroller. Before you decide to adopt or get any dog. Do your home work, self educate your self and make sure you take the time to train your new puppy. Andrew was very honest and straight forward. He was helpful and thankfully through his advice and wisdom I ended up with exactly what I was looking for. Very happy with Olympic dogs and Andrew's help. read more

I have also owned high drive aggressive types like Roger which are far harder to handle and train than our girl from olympic dogs, the mastiff in all I've experienced and everything I've read while intimidating looking trains super easy little correction lots of treats. My wife has never liked or wanted any dogs until I got our girl from Andrew now she has become my wife's dog. It's sad to see people try and place their piss poor decisions on someone else's shoulders, take some accountability, any dog can wreck some shit it's up to you to train and socialize your dog properly, your dog is a direct reflection of the effort you put in to it, no matter the breed, quit blaming breeds for your next dogs sake go to teamdog.pet and train your dog take ownership in the outcome of your animal and for God sakes stay away from dog parks and play dates socialize the dog to situations while engaging you despite distractions. In closing I would give Andrew's program more stars if I could or if I had the money buy him more land so that he could have more keepers to choose from, I stay intrigued with the direction that the program is going and look forward to all the videos, I'm getting property soon and plan on getting another that isn't related. P.S. my dog is a house dog with a very small yard and has zero issues. read more

I had a great experience at Andrew's ranch! We visited during July of this year to see all of his dogs. My wife and I brought our 2 year old daughter with us and all of his dogs loved her especially Endo. I asked him at one point what happens if a fight does break out because it is inevitable and he said you pull their back legs to separate them, there was no mention of a "bb gun" lol. After a full tour and being most impressed with Endo, which my wife wanted to take home because he was one of the happiest dogs we had ever met, we decided on a female that was left over from Endo and Yessum's litter. She was 5.5 mo at the time and had never seen anything we were about to show her. She adapted very well with patience to our suburban lifestyle here in phoenix. She is especially good with my daughter! She hasn't showed any of the absurd "aggressive" tendencies mentioned in the previous reviews and I find it very weird that these previous reviews coincidentally were written on the same day by two different people. I trust Andrew and his breeding program 100 percent and would recommend his dogs to anyone with any lifestyle especially with children since all of his dogs were so great with my daughter. I did a lot of research before I decided to buy a puppy from Olympic Dogs. We purchased are first dog in 2010. I could not be more happy with that decision. "Ziggy" is truly a loyal, fun loving gental giant, (34 inches at the shoulder and 183 lbs) A natural guardian. Good with people and other critters. Andrew is not like a lot of other breeders, he doesn't sugar coat things, he doesn't do much "selling" at all in my experience. Which is one reason I'm highly skeptical of these suspect reviews by anonymous people claiming they were misled. His website has lots of good information about his breeds, including whole sections on "choosing a breed, "choosing a breeder", and detailed 1 to 10 ratings for various traits including " dog aggression" I was very impressed the first time I went to the farm. All the dogs were so friendly. I always get asked where we got Ziggy And I never hesitate to reply Olympic dogs, I have sent strangers, I have sent good friends, I continue to do so in full confidence. Michele M. read more

Very pleased with the new addition to our family. Our puppy is just under 110 lb at 6 months, and quite a character. Rubble, our male from Sweething (Kangal) and Country ( Boerbol, Dogo, Dane), has a ton of energy, determination, and stubbornness. You need to be an experienced dog owner, and not a pushover to bring out the best in these large, athletic dogs. Ours gives everyone respect, lots of love and affection to my family, but he tests boundaries daily. From day one in our family he's tried to improve his position in the pack hierarchy. He's never aggressive. In fact, it's often comical as he thinks of ways to subtly challenge and keep us on our toes. I respect that. Love this guy. He loves our other dog, a 9 year Argentine Dogo, and his human pack immensely. read more
