They care a lot about the animals they are and are always willing to work with people who want the best for their furry babies.

Dr. Curll diagnosed the cat as being "constipated" and gave the cat an enema. The cat was then released back to my mother with a prescription for an appetite stimulant. The cat died five days later. My mother was devastated and wanted to understand how her cat died, so she asked me to help her find out. I requested and received the blood work and procedural notes from Oak Bay Animal Hospital and to me it appears that the cat was not given proper care. As a physician, I did not understand why Dr Curll had not done an X-Ray or ultrasound to determine an underlying cause for the cat's "constipation." I could see immediately from the blood report that the cat had an infection, and the cat had a very high amylase level. These test results would indicate pancreatitis, and it's serious. Dr. Curll, however did not do any follow-up tests. She did not do an X-Ray or ultrasound. She did not prescribe any antibiotics. I believe this is simply negligence, or laziness, or both, and that it resulted in the unnecessary death of my mother's cat. After speaking with my mother about her experience with this veterinarian, I noted a number of red flags that indicated to me this is not a good place to take a pet. I have also recommended that my mother find another veterinarian. Unfortunately, we found out too late.

They worry about what grade their dog will score on the "report card." My little Bichon didn't make the cut. She was a puppy and didn't have a nap before her 3rd interview (3 interviews?) It just strikes me as odd, that a full grown human being that works there, standing in a bin with 3 or 4 dogs could not handle a playful pup. I was called within 15 minutes to pick her up. I find it so odd that it's funny. People laugh. The veterinarian laughed! However, what disturbs me most to this day, when they handed her over to me, she was dripping wet and shaking. They must have kept her out in the rain until I got there. Anyway, they said I could bring her back when she's older. No, I think not.

The couple who owns and operates this place is from New York and they have a real love for dogs and a special understanding of how to create a safe, fun and harmonious environment for groups of dogs. In essence it's like a dog park but with a large staff making sure every one plays nice and has a good time. We have left our boys there twice now, the first time for a few days and the second for 16. Both times they have come home tired and happy and pretty stress free. The second time we took them they couldn't wait to get out of the car and go play - it was clear that they have good associations with Dog Townsend and that's what I like to see when I am entrusting them to someone else. In addition to structured play times they offer special little services, like massages and dedicated fetch sessions and nature walks. They'll also clean Fido up if you order the shampoo service. This is helpful! I also love the little daily reports that they fill out so you get a sense of what your little guys have been up to. The staff is across the board nice, warm and truly interested in the dogs. Nice feeling there. Beautiful flock of exotic chickens running around, too. My dogs love watching them. Place is very clean and the play space is a large covered outdoor area that they separate into different playgrounds. They group dogs according to "play tastes". Smaller dogs can be grouped together and over time they figure out who plays well with whom. It's a healthy and fun environment for all the dogs. And the place is just really beautiful. Really a great option for people who love their dogs.

We highly recommend that those in need of veterinary services for their pets pass this one up, unless Dr. Sherwood's total lack of communication skills, non-existent professional manner and propensity to rudeness are not an issue. This was our first visit and because we mentioned the medications that our dogs had been prescribed in another state, he told us that he could not possibly prescribe those medications without a "thorough' work up. The fact that he had our dogs' records from their previous vet was not enough, according to him, since they weren't "official" records. He said he could not prescribe the same medicines that our dogs were on without doing that new work up, and yet when I told him we did not even need those meds yet, he talked over me, insisting that he could loose his license for prescribing them and that I wouldn't find any vet who would do that for us. We came home, called another vet's office and told a member of the staff what happened and they said we should have no problem getting their medications at their upcoming appointment in two days. Perhaps the reader is wondering what type of drugs we were trying to score for our dogs: some eye drops and senility medication.

I got my blue fawn from here not realizing that blue fawn is not a recognized color by AKC and only learned that the genetic mutation that causes the blue undertone in a fawn also puts the dog at risk for alopecia. And of course, mine has developed alopecia which is extremely difficult to manage since it is incurable but also more importantly is how insufferable it is for my dog to live with. I would never recommend Tanya. And I would strongly recommend only purchasing a Frenchie from a breeder who doesn't perform genetic mutation and produce exotics like blues, lilac, fluffy, etc. Breeders who produce only recognized colors will have healthier dogs.

I almost hate to leave this review as Sheila and her great crew are already booked pretty solid,…read morebut I have to give them credit for the best job done to date on my two beloved lhasa-poo dogs. For the past two years I have been grooming the boys myself to save the money. It's been a fun learning experience and I definitely saved a bunch of cash but I found that having a professional groom them, at least once in a while, has other benefits. For starters, Sheila noticed that one of my dogs has a fungus in his ear. I had thought it was gone so her noticing this helped me get him back on track. I'm avoiding steroids and expensive veterinarian fees and using things like oil of oregano and dietary changes (NO SUGARS) instead. It's been working but I was hesitant to pull the hair out of his ear. Sheila did this and noticed that the fungus is still there and needs more attention. She short clipped them, as asked, and did a great job around their faces. For some reason in the past groomers have not really paid good attention to their faces and it was so nice to really see their little eyes again. She also took care of their anal glands, again, something I'm not able to do on my own. I really appreciated the way Sheila took her time with my dogs, noticed more than just their visual appearance and went over and beyond what most groomers would do, even though she clearly has a full load. And last, my dogs were unstressed and comfortable with her. She's a good lady and runs a great shop. Highly recommended. Thank you Sheila!

Best of all, my dogs have always LOVED her! A couple of times, one of my dogs did have an issue with impacted anal glands, as a previous reviewer stated. Yes, it was uncomfortable for my dog but, hell... No one else ( I've tried) even bothers to do that! Sheila does a complete and professional grooming.
