An absolutely delicious cocktail - the name is escaping me at the moment.
Courtney C.

I met a coworker at The Pickle and Pig for drinks after a long day at a conference and I could have happily sat there all night. We were there early and had the place to ourselves which allowed us to really visit with the bartender and she was great - super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. She went over the cocktail menu with us and made personalized recommendations which were spot on. Our drinks were phenomenal and I wish we didn't have to rush to a work dinner. My coworker stayed at that hotel and went back for a late dinner and said her food was delicious. I'll definitely visit again the next time I'm in town - delicious drinks and food, friendly service, and a beautiful atmosphere! It's a great find.

One of my friends recommend that I visit The Pickle & Pig during a work trip and I was not disappointed! I sat at the bar and ordered the Angry Italian pasta, a Caesar salad, and an espresso martini. The pasta was delicious and the sauce was perfection! The bartender actually suggested the Angry Italian and I'm glad she did. The Pickle & Pig is a versatile restaurant that would be a great spot for a group dinner, a date, and/or meetup with friends. Although it's located in a college town, it doesn't have a "college bar" vibe - which I appreciated.

A true gem in a college town full of bars and pubs. The Pickle and Pig is different. Quaint. Speakeasy-like. Professionally run. Comfortable. With personality. The food was mixed -- the shredded Brussels were not great, and the flank steak salad was just OK. The duck fat frites were delicious and the drinks were excellent. We sat at the bar which was comfortable to sit at but challenging to eat at due to the height of the bar. We will definitely come back. This is probably the nicest place in Oxford!

Overall the meal was very good!! The two drawback notes are that the salads ordered with the entrees did not come out before the entrees, and the 4 top tables are very small. It was a little bit of a puzzle trying to get everything to fit because we planning to get apps and drinks. The food was very good. Favorite appetizer was the duck fat frites- they were served fresh and were great. The aioli served with it has olives or olive juice (it tastes like olives) in it. That isn't a totally bad thing but if you don't love olives you may not like that. The ranch was good though, so would recommend a side of ranch for dipping. The onion rings were good and the batter was tasty, but they were huge rings, so be prepared for that! Mushroom appetizer was underwhelming. Cheesy seafood dip was also very good! For entrees, the Angry Italian pasta was made with fresh pasta that was slightly overcooked, and the sauce was pretty spicy. The steak, and pot roast were also pretty good, standard dishes. The mashed potatoes come with a dark gravy which is tasty. The best entree from our group was the half roasted chicken. It was brined and not over seasoned so the skin was crispy and the meat was so juicy and flavorful. I went full hands in to eat it. If you really want to get the all the chicken, you kinda have to use your hands. The asparagus was under seasoned and slightly underwhelming. The cocktails were also made very well, the table's favorite was the amaretto sour. Our server was great, and the place itself was nice, had a room closer to the bar that was moodier, and a side with windows that was a little lighter. Would definitely go back!! The chicken dish was the factor that pushed the total experience from 4 stars to 5. Would absolutely go back for that, and some of the fries!

Bread pudding, no ice cream or sauce.

Went to P&P for a celebration dinner with friends as we love their signature cocktails and vibe. I'm not sure what has happened to what once was a great place to dine. First it took almost 1/2 hr to get a drink then Literally everything we ordered had a missing key component to the dish/drink which we only discovered once it was delivered to our table. Manhattan- sorry we're out of cherries, signature pickle cocktail - sorry we're out of pickles. Fish & chips - sorry we're out of tartar sauce (served mayo instead) and was delivered without coleslaw. Bread pudding - sorry we're out of ice cream and vanilla sauce. Our waitress was very sweet, but if you are delivering a dish to the customer, you are the last quality check. If something is missing tell the customer, they shouldn't have to point it out to you, it wasn't that busy. The manager did comp our meal, but until they fix these issues I won't be back. Only reason I didn't give them a one is because I know they can do better.

Steak, sea bass, baked potato, alleged asparagus, rustic bread, side salad, broccolini.

Exceptional value for the food here. My $48 bone in ribeye steak was good. Not too thick, but cooked nicely. Good flavor. Baked potato was very good. Asparagus was insulting. Nothing there. Chef, I'm certain was embarrassed serving it. Side salad was very nice for only $6. Daughter's sea bass was delicious. Cocktails very good, although large up charge for Don Julio on my tequila drink. Way overpriced from $12 for well tequila to $20 for real tequila. Ridiculous. Wonderful dining space and ambiance. Very large menu. Pork chops walking by looked really good. Service is college town slow and spotty which is fine as one has to manage expectations when dining out. Had to ask for flatware, and my second very expensive tequila drink twice. I asked for a side sauce for my steak which never came, but $2 up-charge isn't worth complaining about. Sauces are $10 at the big chain $100 steak places. Service was very friendly.

The roadrunner & rattlesnake dip
Marla C.

The only reason I would go back is for the roadrunner & rattlesnake dip. The homemade pita were so good. I ordered the rooster & the hen sandwich and it came out burnt and the chicken was veiny. The fries were good! The pickles they served as an app were just salty cucumbers. We sat at the bar because we had a reservation for 4 and ended up needed 5 people and they could not accommodate us because they were booked up! Meanwhile there were open tables the whole time we were there. The bar is not designed to be ate at. The ledge just made it uncomfortable to eat and you couldn't get close enough to the bar with your stool. The decorate was nothing special.

Loved every detail of this experience. My dining zone encompasses a huge geographic area, spanning at least four counties (kind of like the Cincinnati Elite Squad territory). I've been to many different places in the past two years, and I make bold to place the P&P in the top five. First the atmosphere- a very real-feeling homage to the Prohibition era. Floors are wood, walls are brick, seats are leather, lights are low and have an early 20th century look. The whole place captures this vibe. No televisions except for a flat screen on a far wall running silent shorts of 90 years past. Jazz, ragtime and other popular music of the day was in the background. I felt transported back in time and I loved it. Service was excellent. Hostess, manager, server were very polished, soft spoken and professional. Our waitress was Shelby, who answered questions, explained menu, made suggestions and checked on us in a timely manner. All the serving staff were in an understated uniform of beige shirt, dark pants and a butcher apron. One of them was sporting a newsboy cap. Their appearance and comportment added to the charming old time ambiance. Speaking of appearance I'm glad we dressed up a bit. It felt right. You want to put on a bit of the Ritz here. The cocktails! Don't come here for Sex on the Beach or a Jaegerbomb. They haven't been invented yet! Have a Manhattan, Gin Fizz or my choice, the Giggle Flower. Sweet and ladylike but with a subtle punch. The cocktail menu is intriguing and fun. The food! They start you off with a dish of house pickles, nice crunchy garlicky little half sour slices. A refreshing change from a bread basket and great if you are cutting carbs. I had the Red Light Chicken and Waffles. Amazing. Chicken so moist, breading crackly crisp and flavorful, waffle thick and eager to soak up the Cajun maple drizzle which was a perfect spicy-sweet balance. My husband had the Southern Gump, I tasted the thinly sliced sausage which was delicious, and the grits, infused with scallion, were so creamy almost like polenta. He would not share any shrimp. I liked the crisp tender texture of the Brussels sprouts, another nice alternative to the ubiquitous flash-fried/glazed prep that is everywhere. It could stand some more seasoning however. The slaw was light and crisp and went well with my dish. Hope to return very soon!

Great food and drink, and while it was peak time with some understaffing, our server was über professional and courteous.

If you have never been here for a meal you walk in the front door and either walk down the steps or take the elevator down one floor. We were seated immediately of course we did have reservations (required I believe for the brunch). I ordered coffee and a mimosa then walked to the buffet area which had lots of food options from breakfast items to chicken and fish for lunch items, they also had an omelets station. I will admit my favorite part was getting a yummy omelet made to order. Service was amazing and the place was very clean. Everyone was professional and took great care of everyone. I didn't take pictures but wish I had, since the view was of the lake right outside the lodge, I could see myself coming back again for something other than a buffet, remember I said I am not a buffet fan, well this one didn't make me like them any more but it was clean and lots of options. Was it good, yes. Was the food amazing, not to me, again not a buffet fan. (To many years in the military) Everyone around me seemed to be enjoying the food and almost everyone went back for multiple plates. I will say the view and the atmosphere was worth it to me.

They had cookies and card for them. They let us in early to decorate the room. My parents loved their dinner. It seemed as if the staff were so excited to help my parents celebrate. It really touched our hearts and I was so highly impressed.

The bar features your classic dive-bar fixtures -- patrons that get into indecipherable arguments about high-water marks, nailing stupid things to the wall (in this case giant parrots), dart boards with no darts, curmudgeonly bartenders.... they're all here. The only thing that ruins the facade is endless entrance and exit of super-drunk preppy college kids. Picture your favorite corner bar... now, picture sitting around watching sports and suddenly 15 completely hammered kids wearing polos, blazers and khakis spill into the bar -- it's a weird juxtaposition, but this place has been around for what seems like forever, so the locals must've gotten used to it. If anything, it explains why the lone bartender -- mildly obese, perpetually clad in an untucked dress shirt and eye-divertingly snug shorts -- is at times curt, irrationally frustrated, or uncomfortably friendly. Their white russian is the stuff of legend and it does live up to it. Insider tip: Stir it up good and sip from the tiny straw, otherwise you get a mouth full of vodka and cream which is never fun. In the spirit of full disclosure -- the owners of The Circle also own Mac & Joe's and some german bar/restaurant that are ALL connected through corridors. It seems this bar is an afterthought, but it's the best of the three. Good luck findin' it!
