cheeseburger and mac bites

I have a deep love for Skippers. It is some of the best food in Oxford even if it's just frozen and fried. It is consistently good whether it's a drunk gorging session or just an afternoon meal. Service is quick even when it's packed, and the patio on a nice day is lovely. Absolutely an Oxford staple and arguably the most iconic Oxford food place. Owner Tommy is slightly creepy towards college girls but can't dock the establishment over that.

Gyro platter here is the way to go! Big fan of both the lamb and chicken gyros, which comes with tomato and lettuce. The lamb is indulgent, and comes with the classic cucumber tzatziki sauce; the chicken is nicely done and comes with a honey mustard sauce (can be subbed with the tzatziki sauce). You can select either the normal or waffle fries, and I have been happy with both! The platter is a great deal for a filling lunch option. Recently, I also tried the philly cheesesteak sandwich to switch it up, it was fine, just not as much meat or flavor. My friend also suggests the hamburgers, and the pitas.

The best bar in Oxford. Easiest way to get a drink here, come in summer. Possibly the only time you find a seat at the bar. Also has food. You'll have better luck with the drinks here. I was able to find a seat at the bar. I started with a New Belgium Hemperor. This was about $5, which for a bottle of beer is kind of high. It's very strong though, with a bit of extra juice if you know what I'm talking about. Maybe if you're feeling bold get a beer tower. It also has some food. Everything is just greasy crap. Head to Bagel and Deli Shop if you need to eat something.

First off, if you're going to go here looking for a five star restaurant, don't. You go here for the history, atmosphere and food. You're in a college town in a college bar/restaurant. However, don't let that fool you. The food is great! We have been here several times and it has never disappointed! One of the owners Terri (no clue how you spell it) came out and was talking with us, laughing, playing with our kids. Just something you don't get anymore. Everyone left stuffed and happy and the wallet was not hurting by the time we left!

Timeless classic in Oxford. Comfortable tables. Good pub food (the gyro is top shelf). Cold beer. I hope you live forever, Skipper.

The only issue we encountered is that we had originally wanted the taco pizza, but they were out. The pretzel bites were good but the beer cheese was too strong for me. The interior is very cozy and there wasn't a lot of people there the day we went (be aware, it's summer time so no college students).

We both ordered Caesar salads with buffalo chicken fritters, and the chicken fritters were absolutely DISGUSTINGLY salty. We literally could not eat them. At first, we wondered if maybe we were just being overly sensitive to the salt, so we asked the other person we were eating with to try them. Everyone agreed that they were excessively salty and essentially inedible. In fact, one person actually spit it out after tasting it. Unfortunately, we ordered takeout, so we weren't able to send the food back or have it corrected. It was especially frustrating to spend money on food that we simply couldn't eat. I'm hoping this was just an off night, because my son has had really good experiences here before. But the amount of salt in these chicken fritters was far beyond what would be considered acceptable, and I felt it was important to mention it. Like the other reviewer said, it was so terrible it was impressive.

Not starting off very well. Service is beyond slow and the waiter screwed up the drink order. Yes,…read moreI seen him write it down. We received silverware, with a knife or a fork missing. One person did not receive any. I ordered the chef salad with thousand island dressing. Salad was of a good portion but the dressing had very little taste. My wife got the Greek salad and hers tasted fine. My beer (tall draft) Michelob Lite and it arrived flat. I'm going to add that we were here with another couple who said they have been here a dozen times before and the service was never like this. Maybe I'd come back and give it another chance, but not impressed today. Waiting on check, I hope they serve breakfast

I even saw a snuggery for goodness' sake. And I am SO sitting there when we return soon for a meal. It was just a couple beers this first visit. It's just brick and old wood everywhere you look. Tiffany lamps. It's gorgeous and dark. The beer garden is a big comfy outdoor area, walled off from the street, with tons of tables, all with big umbrellas, plus a comfy couch under its own shelter. I saw four giant heaters ready for the wintertime. The taproom and beer garden are strictly 21+. There's a pulltab dispenser machine for your gambling pleasure. The menu looks interesting, unfortunately nothing on offer that's really English other than fish and chips which is a shame. The atmosphere just cries out for black pudding or a shepherds pie. So I'm really rating 4 1/2 on that account but definitely rounding up, as it is such a cozy feelgood place.
