We had such a great dinner here on a Wednesday evening! After being on campus all day, being seated instantly when we walked in was very nice, even though the restaurant was pretty busy. All of us had one of their German beers, a dunkel and two Kölsch's, which were obviously great. For appetizers we ordered the pretzel and potato pancakes. Both were amazing!! I could come back and just make a meal out of either of these options. For a main, I got the wurst platter. I wish my server would've known more about the different types of sausage I could choose from. Even as someone who has lived in Germany, I didn't recognize the names and when I asked more about them, my server simply shrugged and said they were "sausages." this was a little off-putting but didn't ruin my meal. I tried a mett and the bierwurst and ended up really liking the mett. The potato salad on that plate was also very good, and the red cabbage and sauerkraut are great if you're looking for something super Bavarian. And just like the name says (Kolkata), it was in the basement. It was worth it! A clean nicely decorated German style restaurant! The prices are well worth the food that you get. The young waiter was very helpful and took very good care of us. Please note: some of tge people working here are college students, so please bare that in mind, and tip according to the service, but also, college workers are prone to make some small errors. I had the Sunday special, Prime rib (rare is the only way to go) and it was big and very tasty! My wife had the jaegerschnitzel and she enjoyed it! Likely due to the 40 oz steins of beers, incredible portions of food and their beloved pretzels. The restaurant is located uptown Oxford off the main drag on the basement. They have a variety of the traditional German dish. Service at the hostess station was professional as we were put on wait. With a wait we headed to the bar for an Octoberfest brew that was great! Service was friendly. We also ordered a pretzel that was recommended by the bartender. Our wait was short and we were seated in a booth with menus. Our waiter was attentive to getting drinks. There was a lot to review, but ultimately we found that the focus was on schnitzel. Our waiter returned with the pretzel and two schnitzels and a pulled pork was ordered. We were seated right away by a friendly host. Our waitress greeted us quickly as we ordered mimosas and water. I chose the brunch special which was a potato, sausage, and poached egg. It was surprisingly filling for its size. It was super tasty and I'd definitely eat again. The decor is all authentic German and super cozy. They have a full draft menu along with cocktails. I really enjoyed my lunch at Steinkeller this weekend. My partner and I were in Oxford for a quick trip and decided to try this place out. He had been here many times and recommended it. For starters, they have a great selection of German and local beers. I was a little disappointed that they were out of Spaten, but hey, it's because everyone loves it. So I had a big Palainer instead which was awesome. For lunch I wasn't too hungry so I had the amazing fresh pretzel with beer cheese that was so good! You could absolutely tell that this was the real deal and not some processed canned cheese. Seriously, so good. I am obsessed with everything about Steinkeller! I have frequented this spot throughout my time at Miami University, and it has really never failed me. My go-to pick for food is always the beer cheese pretzel. The pretzel it comes with is MASSIVE and absolutely delicious, and the beer cheese that it is accompanied by is perfect. I will dream of this beer cheese for years after I graduate. The service is always really good, slightly sassy, and always contains a good sense of humor. You can expect to get your food pretty quick when you dine here! I love the interior of Steinkeller - styled as a traditional beer hall in Germany. There's relics everywhere showing German pride, and the tables are either huge and wooden or large booths. I will miss this place more than I can explain! Omg this was so much fun. We got there and you have to go down stairs to get to the restaurant .. due to covid you have to call and get let inside to control the number of people. Im not a meat and potato lover (was vegitarian for over 10 years and still struggle with eating meat).. and not a huge fan of beer. I know what your thinking ..I'm weird and difficult lol. Which is why it took my husband 20 years to talk me into going to Germany. when we went on that Europe tour I did struggle to find something i would eat. But today We were walking around Houston Woods park and everyone was hungry and my husband said this had been recommended to him ..
