I've been taking my oldest dog here for 10 years for grooming. I have 3 now and I've been bringing them here as well. I recommended that my mother bring her dog here, which we did for the first time today. I've never had a problem and have always been treated well, that changed today. My mom had an emergency and ran late picking up her dog. I received a call from the receptionist and they notified me that I'd be getting charged an additional $25 for picking him up past an hour, after I received the initial call that he was ready. I was never notified of this fee. The receptionist transferred me to the "manager" Eunice. She spoke to me in the most condescending manner and was incredibly rude to me, even laughing at me. I asked why I was never notified of this, she said I signed a paper stating that however, I never did. I asked for proof of it and she instead proceeded to hang up on me, TWICE. This review isn't about the $25. I would've gladly paid for it had I been notified of it or had it simply been told to me in a respectful, professional manner. To me customer service is key in running a business. I'm not someone that writes reviews even if I'm treated poorly. This hit home however, because I've been bringing my beloved animals here for so long. To the owner, you just lost a loyal customer. I'll be taking my friends that I've recommended over the years with me as well. It now makes me question how well the animals are treated if management doesn't have enough self control to treat customers with respect. Upon arriving home and looking at him carefully, my mom noticed the terrible job they did cutting his hair as well. I've attached a photo. Been taking my pup for a little over a year now and she loves it. Every time we pull up she gets visibly excited and clearly has formed bonds with some of the staff. I like the fact that the dog area is outdoor and also covered/indoor. Only mishap we had was a case of kennel cough that I'm sure she caught from day care as she isn't exposed to dogs in any other setting. This place came highly recommended from a person at the dog park. I was in immediately. That was going to be the place for me. I dropped my 2 little dogs off and then headed off to work. Once there I opened the camera to check on them. The camera didn't stay open on my phone but for a short time. I would have to go back in repeatedly. I found my dogs hiding under a chair. I was told it was small dogs area but to my surprise there were several very large dogs. They are nervous around large dogs. I called and was told they were seniors. Doesn't matter, no one told me in advance. There is always a person out with the dogs. They seem to be no value add at all. Didn't engage the dogs unless a dog came to them. Then would scratch the dogs head. They moved the chair my dogs were hiding under numerous times so they could sit in the sun or the shade depending on the time. That left my dogs exposed. They never tried to make them feel comfortable. They were completely ignored. To spend the day with a bunch of dogs would be a dream job and I would be down with them interacting. That didn't happen. Person looked totally bored. In the afternoon the young man that was there also looked bored. Didn't engage. He did throw the ball about 5 times that I saw. He had a bottle of water and sometimes would squirt it at dogs that passed him on the patio. My dogs, still under the chair. At 4pm they finally ventured out on to the lawn area where they sat huddled together. No interaction from anyone. I was so disappointed. They didn't seem to care at all about the animals. I found out the next day that a friend had taken her dogs there and one of them was bitten by another dog. The manager said the aggressor was probably just having a bad day. My friend had to pay the vet bill herself. It wasn't cheap. It was a bad wound. I will never go here again. Do not leave your dog here. If you do then watch the camera and see what is happening. If the carers had seemed interested and my dogs still hid all day then so be it but no one made any effort to make them feel safe. They are very friendly and love to be petted. They lived on the streets for months before I had them so they know how to survive. They interact with all the dogs at the El Dorado Dog Park every evening. read more

Not sure how the rest of their services are but don't take your pets here for a flea dip and for flea removal. Charged $180 for our 2 cats that caught fleas and the fleas were still jumping off their fur when we picked them up. So I tried to contact them to do it again because I paid $180 and I'm not gonna let a business get away with that. Oh. And I need to mention that my cats are very easy to groom. They just sit there. Even the staff commented on how behaved they were. Anyways, no one would return my messages so I asked "do I need to come down there"? Only then did someone message me back. I brought them in again and staff acted as if they would solve the problem. When I picked up the cats, they were soft but fleas still everywhere. It's like they didn't even try. I wouldn't have been so angry if it weren't $180. Wtf. I chose this place cause everywhere else was booked for 2 months. So basically I feel really cheated. One compliment: they did trim the cat's nails at least. Don't let them take advantage of you. Make sure you get the services you pay for. read more

Great job! The Pet Set took good care of my 15 year old Westie. He's lumpy and bumpy, deaf, and a little set in his ways, but they got his wash and clip all done in the time they promised. I told them he couldn't take a long ordeal and would get tired and grouchy after a couple of hours. They got it all done and their price was very reasonable. Cosmo has been getting groomed for his whole life, that's a lot of grooming, and this was a good experience. I really stressed about it before taking him here because of his age. My rowdy, high-energy, husky and I have been coming to Pet Set for about a year now? And yes, when Appa comes home he is somewhat calmer, but who am I kidding...he's still bouncing off the walls. I was unhappy with previous daycares for multiple reasons: the dogs were in one room inside all day, the dogs were not separated by size, he came home with CUTS and had to get stitches! They also told me he was playing too rough with the smaller dogs. :( It was pretty bad...so I knew what I wanted when I was looking for a new daycare. Fortunately, I found The Pet Set down the street from my house. I called to register and test Appa and they gave me a tour of the facility. Very clean, colorful, and welcoming! PROS: - Dogs are separated by size. There is a large play area for small dogs and a larger one for the big boys (or girls). I really wanted this because I didn't want Appa harming smaller dogs by playing too rough. - There is an indoor area and outdoor play area! And a gazebo! And sprinklers! Wish they had a pool. That would be awesome because Appa loves the water. Cameras are a big plus, I could watch him play all day. - Prices are fair. Can't complain. $25 for a full day 7am-7pm or 8am-8pm (weekends). Which brings me to hours, LOVE that I can schedule to pick-up my dog late on weekends. And they provide care on holidays. Not that I like to send him on holidays, but sometimes I'm out of town and I know he'll be happier playing with friends. - Staff is friendly and cordial! They keep a smile on their face even as Appa drags them across the room. Shout out to Stella, she's incredibly friendly, informative, and you can tell she loves her job. - Overnight boarding. Love it. $45 a night. Kennels/rooms are big and clean. They provide high-quality food or you can provide your own food. They've never lost any of his belongings and are happy to give any meds. They're also really good at accommodating any last-minute boarding requests. - Grooming. I've sent Appa for daycare/boarding and have also had him groomed the same day. He comes home soft and fluffy, nails are cut, ears are clean, and he smells great. Now if only he could stay clean. - Most importantly, I have never picked up Appa with any injuries, bite marks, or cuts. I know dogs can play rough and the occasional mark is expected, but honestly I haven't seen one on him. He's never contracted kennel cough or fleas or anything like that and I hope he continues to come home healthy and happy! CONS: - Parking can be a bit tough and busy sometimes, but its not a huge problem. Other than that, no other cons I can think of! OVERALL: Appa is happy. I am happy. So glad I found this place because I don't have to leave him home alone all the time and he can socialize and play all he wants. The people here are very nice and the place is great as far as lay out and facilities where they board the dogs. We came to this place on the recomendation of another pet owner and beause they have boarding. We send our bulldog to puppy daycare but none of the places we go have overnight boarding. We had to send him to two days of daycare before we could leave him overnight. Both times he ended up sick. I am not sure if they do not rest him enough or if the other dogs are ill and they do not realize it. Note to you owners....if your dog is sick do not take him to a place where you can infect other dogs. read more

My sweet dog has bite marks on her face and no one did anything or knew anything. I have been a client for close to a year. I brought my short bassethound girl on and off on occasions where we can't be home all day maybe once a month. but we hoped we could rely on responsible professional staff that can take care of our year and a half pup. Unfortunately today was the last day I will take my dog here as it seems that this place is not responsible anymore. I also saw my dog was place in the wrong play area and through the camera I saw the person inside the play area not treat my dog in a nice way. I mentioned that to the front desk while waiting for my pup to come out. And when she was brought out I noticed an unusual wippy eye and when I got a closer look, she had bite marks! It makes me feel awful. They told me I didn't have to pay but that doesn't cover the bite marks, scars and lost trust in this place. From now on we'll try Bark Bark in Signal Hill. My hubby and I started taking our dog Zipper to Pet Set about 3 years ago. I can't rave enough about this place!!! The staff is super friendly and they are always excited to see your pet...they remember our dogs' name!! Each dog gets their own "room" and you can bring in their bed and a fav toy to leave with them. During the day they get fed early and they are left to romp and play in the huge outdoor play area. The yard has everything your dog would want....little plastic pools(if it's hot), toys galore, TONS of other dogs to play with and a person supervising at all times (they play with the dogs too). When we pick up our dog she is SOO happy and seems a bit sad to be coming home with us! But we don't take it personal. The only downfall is that it is a bit more expensive, but it is so totally worth the splurge if you can afford it. Oh and they do grooming and watch cats as well. Just check out their site! My yellow lab girl went to Pet Set for almost 8 years every Wednesday to kinda break up her boring week while I was at work. Close to the end, she started putting on the paw brakes as we walked up to the front door. I started to notice that maybe she had some swelling in her right eye, and took her to the vet. They didn't have the right equipment so I took her to an eye specialist in Sherman Oaks. He said she had the kind of eye injury that they see in a dog that has been hit by a car. She was only with either me, or Pet Set. Looking at the dog cam in the Big Dog yard one day, and I saw a female employee in jeans, black pony tail, black hoodie, take a full-on swing to the face of a dog (not mine) with one of those boards all the employees carry to break up altercations. I called Luis immediately and told him " I just saw something REALLY disturbing on your dog cam." I never received a call back, and certainly never went back. daniel the cashier was great, however we spent 140 dollars for two dogs just for a bath. sure, mail clipping, anal glands, and ear cleaning is included, however, when we picked the 2 dogs up, it was obvious the nails weren't clipped. we asked them to clip the nails and they did so for one dog on the spot, after claiming they had already done it. as for the second dog, he doesn't like his nails clipped so he was problematic from the start. which is understandable as to why they couldn't do it, but tell me that, don't lie to me and tell me it was done. if i could 5 start one employee i would (shout out to daniel) however the service as a whole was unsatisfactory and honestly a rip off. read more

My 2-3 year old Westie came here for his first grooming experience since my boyfriend and I rescued him. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I have 2 small dogs a 4lb multipoo (tons of curls) and a 10lb wired haired terrier (crazy dog who won't sit still), my dogs always come back looking like super stars!!!! With my last groomer I would have to make my appointments a month and advance and I have never had to do that here. I called The Pet Set on Sunday to make and appoitment(thinking there would be no groomers on staff) but to my surprise there were groomers on staff and they took me with in 30mins of my call. My dogs were done in about an 1 1/2 hours so that means they didn't have to sit in a canal ALLL day like PETCO!!! After almost 3 years I thought it was time to write a review. We don't use Pet Set for grooming however we use them for day care. Brody (German Shep) and Maggie (Flat Coat Retriever) love this place. Maggie is a little on the wild side and Brody is pretty mellow. Both have made regular friends there and I know for a fact look forward to camp everyday. The staff at Pet Set really care about the dogs too. I check in daily on the cams and see the staff picking up the waste right away. I see them interacting with the dogs also. Yes, dogs get in scuffles. Yes, dogs have minor disagreements. When this happens I get an "ouch report" or I am told that Maggie had to have a time out because of rough housing. She just doesn't know when to stop! I'm not expecting for them to come home spotless either. Pet Set has a big sprinkler on hot days and it's for the dogs! They both come home smelly from other dogs saliva. This is expected and I'd be worried that they weren't having fun if they came home smelling like roses. They are there to have fun and that's what they get......fun (and tired). I have no problems recommending Pet Set at all. As long as they keep loving my kids, they will get my business. Oh, my kids go daily so that should say something for Pet Set. read more

I have been using The Pet Set for boarding since I got my dog 5-1/2 years ago. I know he is pretty independent so he doesn't really benefit that much from playing with the other dogs but he was always eager to get in the door and was happy to go with the attendants without looking back. Lately, I have had neighbors pick him up because I've been getting back too late to get there before the cut-off time. The last couple of times he resisted going in and my neighbor said he ran at him full speed when he picked him up. This time he refused to move when I brought him into the lobby and his entire back end started to shake. I have never seen this behavior in him but the staff said nothing unusual happened the last time I boarded him. Although this is speculative, I believe his experiences have become increasingly traumatic. I asked the staff to leave him in his kennel, feeling he would be safer and more comfortable there. I called while I was on the road to ask how he was doing and was told "He's settling down." I asked if he was with the other dogs and was told he was out with the small dogs. I was a bit upset that they threw him in with the other dogs despite my request that he be left in the kennel. The nanny cam hasn't worked for at least a year, which is also concerning. I will not board him there again and felt very badly about leaving him there yesterday. Fortunately, it was only an overnight stay and I asked the neighbors to pick him up in the morning and came home early out of concern for his welfare. read more

When I first came here for grooming it was great, specially being a mini Schnauzer that requires time for his cut... BUT I really needed to drop off my dog for boarding to go on a trip. There are too many inconsistencies with the message as to the process to have my dog admitted from different employees. One told me all I needed was a temperament test so I went the next day to get it done and then another employee told me I had to wait 2 days after before I could board him. His reasoning was for dog adaptability. I've had a businees training dogs before and have boarded my dog with other companies and I know that is not necessary. I really find it unprofessional that a clear message is not passed to all employees which in turn affect the consumer. This is not good business. read more

i wish i could give this place no stars. i've gone to this groomer twice once because i thought they were good and the second time because my mom ended up making the appointment. This place is great if you want your dogs to get fleas. I sent my dogs here to be groomed and I know they didn't have fleas, I know this because I am highly allergic to fleas. And before I brought them here I had no flea bites I now have flea bites all over my body. So you can't tell me that they did have fleas before they came. My dogs are also white so I would see the flea poop and the fleas which I saw neither of before I brought them here. So please explain why I was charged for a flea bath when obviously they gave my dogs fleas. They also ended up cutting off a part of my dogs nipple, leaving red irritated patches all over her skin, AND nicking her dewclaw. despite me warning them several times before they took her. How hard is it to not give dogs fleas and not cut them I've seen many other groomers do it but sadly this one cannot read more

I have taken my dogs here for many years and recommended it to many friends. It is pricey but worth it...until my last visit. I took my Jack Russel and Pom for grooming. Both of my dogs walked to my car. When I got to Pet Set the Jack walked in and I carried my Pom. I told them what I wanted done and left. They called me within minutes and said my Pom's foot was tender and they couldn't groom him. I came back and my Pom was sitting on the counter with his leg dangling whimpering. I rushed to my vet and left my other dog there. After X-rays, they told me my dog had a broken leg. Pomeranians are fragile dogs. But when I told Pet Set what happened they told me I brought him in with a broken leg. This is impossible. He walked to the car. He was in no pain. They blamed me and then charged me for the grooming on my other dog. The owner said it was my fault and that the leg was already broken. What he doesn't know is if he had just been honest I would have understood. I know these dogs are fragile. But to blame me and then charge me for the other dog was more than I could take. I will never go back. I just got back from dropping off my Pom at the vet. He has to have his leg amputated. It was that or 4k-5k to have surgery that might not work because of where the break was and the severity. read more

Shortish story: my dogs were there for an overnight while we were out of town. That evening I was watching on the doggie cam from their website and saw one of the staff members grab my 20 pound adult dog by either the neck or collar (hard to tell by the camera), stand straight up lifting my dog off the ground and at this man's waist level. He proceeded to hold him that way and walk at least 6-8 feet ...and off camera... with my dog by the neck. I didn't know what happened, if he was hurt, what occurred after my dog was off camera.... It was about 5:40p and after hours so nobody would answer the phone, and minutes later all the dogs were cleared out of the play areas for bed time so my dog never came back into view. I spent the whole night waiting for them to open so I could get someone on the phone to make sure he was ok and ensure that this person was no where near my dog until we could back to town to get him. Longer version: before this guy carried my dog off by the neck, I watched him be rough with even smaller dogs than mine (though not as dramatically as what he did to my dog), he stood up against the fence of the area he was supervising and banged back and forth against it, he charged at some of the dogs with his arms outstretched which could've been trying to play but the dogs cowered and skirted away from him. Basically he looked bored and unhappy with his job and was taking it out on our pets rather than doing his job to supervise and protect them. I don't know what happened to instigate this man carrying my dog by the neck, but my dog has never bit or been aggressive with people or other dogs. We've had him since he was a puppy and we go to the dog beach and dog parks weekly, he's very well socialized. He's a little dog with a 65 lb. doggie brother and is used to playing with the big boys so I know he could get a little rough, but nothing to justify the treatment he received. When I did reach staff the following morning they seemed appropriately upset by what I described, but their video is a live stream so they didn't even have the ability to review it to see the conduct of their employee. That morning I spoke to the brother of the owner who assured me that they would confirm who the employee involved was and that the owner would call us back the following day. When we picked him up, they didn't charge us for his stay which was a nice gesture. The owner did call me the next day and assured me that the employee would be "disciplined." I wish they had a video because I can't believe that they would trust their clients' loved ones to this person if they had seen for themselves what he'd done. I suppose I give them credit for having a camera at all, but it's still concerning that we are monitoring their staff better than they are and that they would even consider continuing to employee someone who jeopardizes the safety of the dogs and their business in this manner. I was watching the video for less than 5 minutes, what are the chances of me seeing what I did if it was an isolated incident? All of the other Pet Set staff that I've interacted with and that I've seen interact with my dogs have been beyond fabulous and the management/owner did seem appropriately concerned about the incident, but be aware that they did not tell me that this employee was going to be terminated. They were going to look into it further and let me know, but I haven't heard back. It started out so well.... This was my first time boarding a pet, so I called a few places and wound up heading over to Pet Set after the woman on the phone offered a tour of the facility. I was a little nervous because the "cat room" is a lot warmer than the rest of the place. There's an air conditioner running, but the door is also open, so it stays warm. The woman assured me they watch the temperature and also that cats are given time outside of their little plexiglass "cages". We decided to board our cat there. It was going to be for a week and they assured us we could call and check in. We filled out the extensive application and brought copies of her vaccination records, but the drop off process left something to be desired. No intake form, no questions about how much we feed her (I had to mention, um do you want to know her feeding schedule). They just had us drop off the cat and app and that was it. I wanted some sort of review of the app or something. I don't know, like I said, I've never boarded a pet before, so I don't know if this is normal or not. No receipt, nothing? Here's where the two star rating comes from: We'd called a few times to check on how she was doing. Every time we called, the person who answered raved about how well she was doing. She was exploring when she was outside and meowing and letting them pick her up. It all sounded great. So imagine our SHOCK AND HORROR when we showed up and the guy at the counter said. "She's doing well, but just so you know, there was blood in her litter box." What? "She bled in her litter box, but that's totally normal when they're stressed and away from their mom?" Huh? Our cat is about 11 months old, and she's fixed. BLOOD in the litter box? I asked for more info, how much? when? did she get into a fight? But he said he wasn't the one who was taking care of her. No one mentioned this when we called, wouldn't they have told us? Then a woman appears to take us back to our cat. I ask her about the blood in the litter box and she says she wasn't the one taking care of our cat so she didn't know anything about it. Our cat seems fine, she's alert and meowing. We spend some time checking her out. About 10 minutes later, the same guy from the front desk shows up in the back to notify us that, "oops, that was another cat with blood in their litter box. Your cat was fine." WHAT?!?!?!? That is totally unacceptable. Way to TERRIFY us. I'm ready to rush her to the vet because I have NEVER heard of blood in the litter box for anything other than a major issue. I get that he made a mistake. I get that mistakes happen. But when you're informing someone of a potentially serious issue with their pet while the pet was in your care, you've GOT to be sure you've got the right pet. If not for this incident, we would have given the overall experience a 3.5 or even a 4. read more

This review is many years overdue which I apologize for, but each time I drive past the Pet Set I remind myself that I should write the review so that others don't deal with the same issues that I have. I was terminated as a client at the last minute for expressing my concern regarding their grooming service as well as the fact that my dog was injured while attending doggie daycare. I would have accepted this termination if Jose would have called me in advance knowing that I brought my dog on a consistent schedule. Instead, he asked the front desk staff to inform me when I brought my dog in, which meant I was forced to take my dog home & then go to work which made me extremely late to work.
