Finally gave The Peri Peri Shack a try. They specialize in flame-grilled chicken and have three other locations (Burnaby, New West, North Van). We dropped in on a Friday (12:30pm) for lunch. Mostly people grabbing takeout to go but there's three tables inside. Randomly have Cheesecake Factory slices for dessert. - Half chicken + 1 regular side ($19.00) - opted for the peri peri fries, which were lacking a crunchy bite. Chicken was dry and desperately needed sauce to save it. Best thing were the sauces (peri nero and citrus & herb). - Flame grilled chicken sandwich + 1 regular side ($16.50) - chicken breast wasn't juicy. Dry again. Tried the peri peri flatbread, standard. It's a fantastic place to get peri peri chicken. Se ordered half chicken and a side, paneer rice bowl and peri peri naan, and everything was just perfect. The portion sizes are huge, enough to be left over. The service was super quick, order arrived within 10 mins. There are a few seats to sit down, but it's mostly a take out place. Was going to order Nandos but on the way back from Metrotown, decided to try Peri Peri Shack. Ordered the 10 wings and to my chagrin .... it was actually only 5 wings being cut in half .... i.e. 5 drumettes and 5 wingettes (without the tip). So disappointing and felt ripped off. A chicken wing consists of 3 components: drumette, wingette and tip. I was expecting to see 10 wings .... But to get only 5 drumettes and 5 wingettes which is equivalent to 5 wings by definition, so disappointing .... Completely out of the blue, decided to take out as this was new to the neighbourhood (to me anyways) & wow, I was not disappointed. Bought a combo full chicken with 2 sides, plus 2 prawn skewers. The chicken was conveniently pre-cut. Their chicken and prawn skewers were both MUCH MORE smoky flavourful & moist than expected! What a fabulous surprise! Chose two grilled veggies as the sides. Small counter-serve peri peri chicken joint also serving some other foods like shrimp and paneer bowls and an array of side dishes. A variety of Cheesecake Factory cheesecake is available too. They have 3 tables and you can dine in if you wish, but it looks like they do a ton of takeout and delivery, and that's the majority of customers. While service is perhaps not the most important thing at an in-and-out place like this, the person who took my order was really nice and I appreciated that. Not too long of a wait for my food even though they were processing a lot of takeout orders at the same time. I don't eat chicken but I love the flavours of this kind of food so I'm glad they have other options. I tried the mango paneer rice bowl with grilled vegetables. Interestingly, the paneer cubes were very small, but there were a ton of them, so I liked this because it made it easy to get a piece of paneer in every bite and it really maximized the nice charred edges. The veggies were nicely cooked too with a slight char The sauce was delicious but for my taste the bowl was a little sauce-heavy. The best way I can think to explain it is this - the sauce was creamy and the amount of it kind of gave the bowl the slightly greasy feel of something that's been doused in mayo, particularly at the end when it was just getting down to rice (not sure if there was actually mayo or not). That was the only thing that wasn't to my liking, and I really enjoyed the dish otherwise. I got a slice of mango key lime cheesecake as well, as I have a hard time resisting cheesecake. The cheesecake was a little sweet for my taste as I prefer a tangy cheesecake, but I liked the mango key lime flavour! I haven't had anything from Cheesecake Factory in ages, and while I would say most cheesecakes that you'll get from local or specialty dessert shops are better, it definitely beats out generic cheesecake. While I will never be able to speak for the chicken, I would recommend the place based on the paneer bowl, and I'll probably be back at some point to try more sauces. read more

I have passed by many times and have never tried their food. I decided to go in today. I checked the menu from outside first and found what I wanted. There were 4 other customers standing in the store, I assume waiting for their orders. I come in and waited at the front for someone to acknowledge me, nothing. All the staff were in the back and I had made eye contact with at least 2 of them and not once did anyone say "we'll be with you shortly" or something to let me know they see me. So I left, without food and slightly annoyed. Based on that experience I'll probably never go back unfortunately. I wish these businesses would recognize how important customer service is. The cost of living is high. If you want me to spend my hard earned money in your business the least you can do is acknowledge people when they come in. Act like you actually want the business. And also, if you're going to put your business on uber eats and other delivery apps, make sure that your business can handle the capacity. Half of the people waiting in the shop were delivery drivers. You need to be able to serve your front facing customers just as quickly if not better than these people ordering online. This place caught my eye and I thought I'd give it a try. We ordered a shack pack, which was a full chicken that came with two large sides. We chose peri peri fries and mac and cheese. The chicken was good, maybe slightly on the dry side, and it definitely needed the house-made shack sauce to make it tastier. Fries were average. Mac and cheese is something I would not recommend. Tasted really fake and not flavourful at all; in fact I would prefer Kraft dinner. I couldn't help but compare them to Nando's, which I find tastes better in terms of both the chicken and side dishes. However, Nando's is more expensive. Also, I found that after eating here I was super thirsty, way more than usual after takeout food. Not sure why as the food was not overly salty. Customer service is alright. I called to inquire about their menu, spice level suggestion, and recommended side dishes. They were very helpful. When we arrived to pickup, we were the only customers there and they had 3-4 staff at the very back of their kitchen who noticed us, and although the food was ready to go, they didn't come help us for awhile. So, that was a little disappointing. This place is definitely more of a takeout type of restaurant than eat-in. There are a couple tables that seat 4 in the front, like a fast food restaurant. I'd recommend takeout. Personally, I prefer Nando's. I likely won't order from here again, but if I felt like peri chicken I'd always be down to get Nando's again. Heard good things about the peri-peri shack so decided to check them out. Being the hungry hippo that we are, my friend and I decided to do an order from the peri-peri shack and do a small taco order from Sal y Lemon. Upon entering the Peri-peri shack there was no one and it took 2 minutes for someone to appear, no big deal. As the restaurant was empty we asked if we could dine in (this was before in-door dining restrictions took place) and they said "yes". We sat at one of the tables but it didn't look like it was wiped down from the last patron, there were crumbs all over. Given that we are in a pandemic and this is a restaurant that serves food, this was not okay. It took 20 minutes for our order and during that time, many third party delivery drivers entered in without properly social distancing do we decided to get our food to go. We didn't feel safe dining in anymore and don't recommend it based on our experience. As for the food, the chicken pieces are slightly bigger in portion than Nando's (their chicken have really shrunk in size lately) and has a different seasoning but was good. The spicy fries were really tasty and the dipping sauces that came with the chicken and fries were fantastic! I prefer the flavours of Nando's chicken more but the fries at the Peri-peri shack makes it worth the visit. Just get your food to-go. read more

Note that anything you get "mild" will actually be pretty spicy, and it's a slow burn so you won't realize it at first. All of us can eat medium spicy things generally and found "mild" to be just on the borderline of enjoyable. My 3-year-old immediately found her "mild" chicken skewers to be too spicy. Generally the flavors are good otherwise, and the portions are generous. We have had peri peri chicken at nandos and it has always been a disappointment as it always lack in flavour and spice. This has become our go to place for an excellent meal....every time! The chicken is always cooked perfectly....juicy and crisp. The fries are seasoned with a salt that is tangy and keeps you going back for just one more. Their Mediterranean Quinoa Salad is a family favorite and disappears as soon as it is opened. Comes to around 35 dollars and usually had lunch leftovers too (for family of four). Peri chicken great and just a bit spicy or lemon chicken if kids not wanting spice. In the neighborhood, Sal y limon across street (kingsway/Fraser) and Brooklyn's finest pizza both also great affordable options but Peri Peri beats both for pure bang for your buck.
