Was going to order Nandos but on the way back from Metrotown, decided to try Peri Peri Shack. Ordered the 10 wings and to my chagrin .... it was actually only 5 wings being cut in half .... i.e. 5 drumettes and 5 wingettes (without the tip). So disappointing and felt ripped off. A chicken wing consists of 3 components: drumette, wingette and tip. I was expecting to see 10 wings .... But to get only 5 drumettes and 5 wingettes which is equivalent to 5 wings by definition, so disappointing .... Mind you, i should have asked about the wings but thought it was common sense.
Get the Chicken and Rice. Just do it. The food here was amazing, definitely one of the major highlights of my stay in the area.
Completely out of the blue, decided to take out as this was new to the neighbourhood (to me anyways) & wow, I was not disappointed. Bought a combo full chicken with 2 sides, plus 2 prawn skewers. The chicken was conveniently pre-cut. Their chicken and prawn skewers were both MUCH MORE smoky flavourful & moist than expected! What a fabulous surprise! Chose two grilled veggies as the sides. They turned out to be more lightly steamed than grilled, which was fine. Definitely coming back as I'm still thinking about their chicken & prawns! (Find me on Instagram via @aida.loves )
Food on the table: Leg & Thigh with Peri Peri Fries and Golden Brown Onion Rings Grilled Chicken & Basmati Spiced Rice The chicken was very tender and juicy. Excellent Portuguese-style grilled chicken to perfection! You can choose your spice level to go with it. We got offered to try their collection of in-house-made signature sauces (such as citrus & herb, mango, house-made peri hot sauce, and peri mayo). The tangy mango sauce is perfect for the kids, but our favourite would be their house-made peri hot sauce. It can increase the spice and savour the flavour. The basmati rice is fragrant and flavourful. It paired well with the chicken. Thus, we can understand why it gets selected as one of their more popular dishes. The food was rich, fantastic, and tasty! We will surely return when craving Portuguese-style grilled chicken. The Peri Peri Shack on Kingsway is its first location in Vancouver. It launched its second location in Burnaby this year. The Kingsway location is in the Kensington-Cedar Cottage neighbourhood on Kingsway and Fraser Street. Food: 5/5 Must Try! Service: 4/5 Kids: seems for grown kids Price: Thank you very much @vanfoodster for the tasting plates vouchers. Looking forward to the next events! Presentation: Parking: along neighbouring streets parking Tips: * has teamed up with The Cheesecake Factory, so can purchase some signature cheesecake at their stores . * has limited dine-in tables. Would I Return: Yes
Small counter-serve peri peri chicken joint also serving some other foods like shrimp and paneer bowls and an array of side dishes. A variety of Cheesecake Factory cheesecake is available too. They have 3 tables and you can dine in if you wish, but it looks like they do a ton of takeout and delivery, and that's the majority of customers. While service is perhaps not the most important thing at an in-and-out place like this, the person who took my order was really nice and I appreciated that. Not too long of a wait for my food even though they were processing a lot of takeout orders at the same time. I don't eat chicken but I love the flavours of this kind of food so I'm glad they have other options. I tried the mango paneer rice bowl with grilled vegetables. Interestingly, the paneer cubes were very small, but there were a ton of them, so I liked this because it made it easy to get a piece of paneer in every bite and it really maximized the nice charred edges. The veggies were nicely cooked too with a slight char The sauce was delicious but for my taste the bowl was a little sauce-heavy. The best way I can think to explain it is this - the sauce was creamy and the amount of it kind of gave the bowl the slightly greasy feel of something that's been doused in mayo, particularly at the end when it was just getting down to rice (not sure if there was actually mayo or not). That was the only thing that wasn't to my liking, and I really enjoyed the dish otherwise. I got a slice of mango key lime cheesecake as well, as I have a hard time resisting cheesecake. The cheesecake was a little sweet for my taste as I prefer a tangy cheesecake, but I liked the mango key lime flavour! I haven't had anything from Cheesecake Factory in ages, and while I would say most cheesecakes that you'll get from local or specialty dessert shops are better, it definitely beats out generic cheesecake. While I will never be able to speak for the chicken, I would recommend the place based on the paneer bowl, and I'll probably be back at some point to try more sauces.
This place caught my eye and I thought I'd give it a try. We ordered a shack pack, which was a full chicken that came with two large sides. We chose peri peri fries and mac and cheese. The chicken was good, maybe slightly on the dry side, and it definitely needed the house-made shack sauce to make it tastier. Fries were average. Mac and cheese is something I would not recommend. Tasted really fake and not flavourful at all; in fact I would prefer Kraft dinner. I couldn't help but compare them to Nando's, which I find tastes better in terms of both the chicken and side dishes. However, Nando's is more expensive. Also, I found that after eating here I was super thirsty, way more than usual after takeout food. Not sure why as the food was not overly salty. Customer service is alright. I called to inquire about their menu, spice level suggestion, and recommended side dishes. They were very helpful. When we arrived to pickup, we were the only customers there and they had 3-4 staff at the very back of their kitchen who noticed us, and although the food was ready to go, they didn't come help us for awhile. So, that was a little disappointing. This place is definitely more of a takeout type of restaurant than eat-in. There are a couple tables that seat 4 in the front, like a fast food restaurant. I'd recommend takeout. Personally, I prefer Nando's. I likely won't order from here again, but if I felt like peri chicken I'd always be down to get Nando's again. I think if you felt like trying something different, you could go for it, as it's better value than Nando's.
Heard good things about the peri-peri shack so decided to check them out. Being the hungry hippo that we are, my friend and I decided to do an order from the peri-peri shack and do a small taco order from Sal y Lemon. Upon entering the Peri-peri shack there was no one and it took 2 minutes for someone to appear, no big deal. As the restaurant was empty we asked if we could dine in (this was before in-door dining restrictions took place) and they said "yes". We sat at one of the tables but it didn't look like it was wiped down from the last patron, there were crumbs all over. Given that we are in a pandemic and this is a restaurant that serves food, this was not okay. It took 20 minutes for our order and during that time, many third party delivery drivers entered in without properly social distancing do we decided to get our food to go. We didn't feel safe dining in anymore and don't recommend it based on our experience. As for the food, the chicken pieces are slightly bigger in portion than Nando's (their chicken have really shrunk in size lately) and has a different seasoning but was good. The spicy fries were really tasty and the dipping sauces that came with the chicken and fries were fantastic! I prefer the flavours of Nando's chicken more but the fries at the Peri-peri shack makes it worth the visit. Just get your food to-go.
Good food, nothing that blew me out of the water, but an option that's convenient (for us), fast, and affordable. Note that anything you get "mild" will actually be pretty spicy, and it's a slow burn so you won't realize it at first. All of us can eat medium spicy things generally and found "mild" to be just on the borderline of enjoyable. My 3-year-old immediately found her "mild" chicken skewers to be too spicy. Generally the flavors are good otherwise, and the portions are generous. Maybe things aren't as fresh for takeout, but I found things like the rice was a little dry on the Chicken & Rice, the chicken dry in the chicken sandwich or skewers. Not terrible but not amazing either.
12 seater Portuguese flame grilled chicken gig along kingsway.Mostly pick up orders. Clean place and very good costumer service. The Kitchen manager even went out to say hello and explained some of their delish foods in the menu. I got the half chicken just with 2 side dishes,a basmati rice and peri peri fries.spicy? Well I selected mild only.. The chicken is really good, flame grilled, spices and flavors blending is so perfect.half chicken cut into 2 pieces, huge chunk of meat although they are tender still u need to cut them, Disposable fork and knife so its kinda hard to cut the meat into pieces. The fries is excellent, the dipping sauce is unremarkable. Market value is just right, not cheap but nut expensive either.. Street parking and still free up to this date,be mindfull if Im not mistaken 3pm - 6 pm no parking, this is the downside of the site because if u park in residential area around you need to walk and its not easy when it's raining, good when I came still early and i got a spot almost infront. Noise level is average, only one washroom for all but its clean. Im glad that finally I find time to visit the place. I love flame grilled meat so I will surely return. I enjoyed what I ordered, specially the french fries.
This place is extremely underrated. The food is super flavorful. Fries are very crunchy. It's not fried, so it's really good. The staff here is very very good and helpful. She explained all the food for us very thoroughly with a very friendly attitude. The chicken here was not dry at all and the sauce is very unique. Citrus and herb sauce is fire. Would 100% come back again, thank you peri peri chicken!
Very clean fast food place. Food was pretty good and very spicy too. Love the peri peri chicken though. Recommended from me.
One of the places Vancouver is missing is a good grilled chicken place and we finally got it. We have had peri peri chicken at nandos and it has always been a disappointment as it always lack in flavour and spice. But the chicken here was absolutely delicious, moist, well marinated, good charcoal flavour and had a good kick (we got extra spicy). The peri peri fries were good too. This is a must try place. We are going to be regular here.
Finally gave The Peri Peri Shack a try. They specialize in flame-grilled chicken and have three other locations (Burnaby, New West, North Van). We dropped in on a Friday (12:30pm) for lunch. Mostly people grabbing takeout to go but there's three tables inside. Randomly have Cheesecake Factory slices for dessert. - Half chicken + 1 regular side ($19.00) - opted for the peri peri fries, which were lacking a crunchy bite. Chicken was dry and desperately needed sauce to save it. Best thing were the sauces (peri nero and citrus & herb). - Flame grilled chicken sandwich + 1 regular side ($16.50) - chicken breast wasn't juicy. Dry again. Tried the peri peri flatbread, standard. Wouldn't come back. 2.5 stars. read more

NEW PERI CHICKEN . A brand new peri peri chicken shack has just opened up in town. They are crazy busy for their walk in take out and for their delivery orders. Prior to the new covid guideline changes they had limited dine in but I'd call ahead and let them know. (TOTALLY NOT SOCIAL DISTANCED). 100% recommend take out here, we dined in and let's just say we won't come dine in again. Maximum 5 customers, but they have 3 tables not social distanced and not enough room for those waiting for their orders. * Whole chicken with 2 sides ($34) ~ we got the citrus and herb sauce for the whole chicken with peri peri fries and their rice. Chicken isn't bad. Nice and Smokey. * Half chicken w/ 1side ($17) ~ we got the medium hot, and a mash potato. We decided to upgrade the fries and rice to the larger portion. * Peri fries ~ very well seasoned. Pretty crispy and delicious. This was actually pretty good * Small side of mashed potatoes ($4.75) ~ nice and buttery, the potatoes were smooth, and flavour was nice. I do wish it was a bit creamier as it was a bit dry. * Also no water you gotta purchase it. Also no ketchup..... pop was $2.50/ea * 7/10 ~ overall it was ok. Not bad their chicken was nice and Smokey but totally not recommend dining in. Do take out! * 8/10 ~ portions were decent for the price I do admit. And the pricing is average amongst these stores. Total bill before tip $70.84 * 1/10 ~ TERRIBLE. They took our names but the table sat so close to us behind our chairs could touch with no barriers. People stood waiting for their food I could touch them without even reaching far. Luckily it wasn't too busy but damn not recommended other than take out. Max 5 people but workers don't care if there's 10 here. Also note to workers... what's the point of the mask if it's under your nose? * 724 Kingsway Vancouver BC read more

Literally the best place ever. Every single dish is amazing. My favourites are the chicken and rice bowl, chicken sandwich, and wings. The fries and onion rings are super delicious. Also, the coleslaw is so fresh and tasty. Overall, I highly recommend, you must go here! read more

There is always excellent food and service at The Peri Peri Shack! I have tried a majority of the items on the menu and I have no complaints. The chicken is always moist and the flavors are excellent. This is now my go to spot for both eating in and takeout, and I do not think I will be going to Nando's anymore. I highly suggest eating here! read more
