This place has a sports bar kind of feel. It's a nicer place to sit down and eat than almost any other restaurant in Sonora. You can get a real lunch with real meat and or a real salad. My family made a reservation for 12 on the phone with the manager and when we arrived they had lost our reservation because of a fault in management. they gave us an estimated wait time of 45+ minutes. We ended up leaving because the waiting space was very small and we were in the way, and nothing seemed to be opening up. do not trust them for important reservations! read more

Sooooo good! The fried asparagus batter is peppery. So tasty! I got the salad without walnuts but it usually has walnuts. I didn't eat much of the salad because I got full on the pocket bread. I'm glad I don't live close by. I would eat that every day. read more

Fun stop for lunch in Sonora. The pepper theme was good, but they could even make it better as they could have a dipping sauce for the Calimari that had a pepper theme and more. Peppers don't have to be hot for those that don't like spice. The peppery soup had no spice and was slightly sweet. The stuffed jalapeños were so spicy that I couldn't eat them, hubby liked them though. It was good, but we probably won't be back. read more

4 1/2 stars. Always thought this was a Mexican restaurant, but much to my surprise it is a bar and grill. Wife and I had a great experience here. Menu is vast, so it will have something for everyone's tastes. The calamari appetizer was excellent. My wife liked her chicken tortellini and my seafood linguine had lots of shrimp and scallops. The bill came to a little over $50. Though we didn't get drinks, they did have 15 beers on tap and numerous wines to choose from. Only disappointing thing is they don't have their own homemade pepper sauce. I'd think a place that focuses on spicy dishes would. Will likely stop here again next time we head to Black Oak Casino. read more

At first I wasn't feeling the restaurant because it was so busy & they put us right in the middle of the room - gave me anxiety lol but they let us switch tables luckily... and then it was much nicer. Husband and I drove to Sonora from a Yosemite due to fires. We both ordered a large salad-- the Cobb and the steak and avocado. The salads were large and tasty. I really liked the Cobb. I recently went to the Peppery with 4 other friends and the food was super good and the waitress was on top of things. The food did take a little while to come out but it wasn't a big deal bc we were just hanging out & that is what you should expect from there- a nice place to hang out. It's a bit loud and busy, but however the building is, the volume seems to be evenly distributed and it's not hard to hear your company or the waiter/waitress. I've been to other places that kind of echo and this wasn't the case at all. I got the jambalaya. After my tip it was around 25. The whole plate was full of food so you're getting a good size portion. My only complaint about the dish, was the shrimp still had the shells on them. So I had to kinda pick through first and get those out and eaten. It was nice and saucy though and not too spicy. The rice was moist and there were a lot of veggies. We arrived later into town and were looking for a place that was still open and had a lighter menu options. The hotel reception suggested The Peppery, which was nearby to the hotel we were staying. We ordered takeout. We didn't have to wait long to pick up - food was hot, decent portions, and cutlery and napkins were included. My one complaint was that our orders included French Fries, and we didn't have any ketchup, and the restaurant didn't ask us if we wanted condiments - we didn't think about it until we were eating back at the hotel. I can't say enough good things about our first experience at this restaurant, and with only one improvement suggestion. With my wife being a chef and owner of a 4-1/2 star Bay Area restaurant, we are tough to impress, but the Peppery did it. We went on a busy Friday night, and like so many restaurants they were short-staffed. But they made the most of the staff they had. We were greeted almost immediately and waited only about 7 minutes for our table. We considered going somewhere else, as we were hungry and it looked like dinner was an hour away. Glad we didn't! We ordered the calamari appetizer, which was freshly-cooked and not from frozen stock. It was among the best I've had, which is a tall order coming from a spoiled Bay Area critic. We shared a Caesar salad and 10 oz. ribeye steak. It was a good portion and, combined w the appetizer and salad, satisfied two hungry eaters. I had a glass of the house red, which was full bodied, not acidic or bitter and perfectly complemented the meal-to-come. The salad was very good but not exceptional. The ribeye, however, was out of this world! It was well-presented, perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth; while the fresh (not frozen) vegetables were equally delicious - properly cooked and seasoned. I wish we could have accompanied it w a baked potato, but the mashed potatoes were also a great complement to the ribeye . . . freshly-made - from REAL (not packaged) potatoes. We topped it off w a brownie, which we confirmed was made, not just baked, in-house. So it too was fresh and tasty. It came with a scoop of delicious, quality vanilla ice cream. The whipped cream was from a can, which disappointed my wife but was fine by me, although freshly-made would have been more in-line w the balance of this quality meal. The service was phenomenal, esp. considering how hard it is nowadays to get workers, much less good ones. Our food was delivered timely and with a personable and genuine smile. Our waitress, who appeared to be in training, knew the menu and was obviously a professional. She regularly checked on us and pleasantly delivered our special requests without making us feel it was a burden. My only small tip would be for the lighting to be less bright. It would go a long way to making the atmosphere more intimate and on-par with the high quality food and service. It is obvious a chef is involved in delivering a quality product and there are people behind the scenes who take pride in their business and profession. Someone here cares about the experience of their customers . . . AND delivers. That's a hard combination to execute well . . . but they do it. Turn down the lights a bit and this restaurant could compete w the best the Bay Area has to offer. We are new to the area and look forward to many satisfying experiences here. Well, we gave it another try but wasted $35 on the test. Took almost 40 mins to get our food, and it was salads. The waitress never said word or refilled our drinks. We had to go up to the cashier station to pay our bill. It was not a good experience. The food is the only reason it got 3 stars. The decor is from the 80's or 90"s maybe. Jambalaya is awesome except they should drain the grease during cooking. Asparagus and jalepeno poppers are great, onion strings amazing. I am a fan! Located right off Mono St with plenty of parking, this restaurant is very deceiving from the parking lot. It didn't look open to me. Upon entering, I was greeted within seconds and asked if I wanted a table. I placed a to go order with the very friendly gal (I didn't catch her name and it isn't on the receipt). I ordered the Cobb salad with chicken and a slice of carrot cake. I also asked if they sold bottled water. The order came out within 10 minutes and I saw diner after diner get seated. There were customers at the bar. It's definitely a sweet, locals place. The waitress brought me a cup of water first. The salad is so delicious! Not only does it look amazing, the ingredients are all fresh and the size is perfect. I loved the green leaf lettuce, bits of bacon, blue cheese, chopped tomatoes and slices of chicken and hard boiled eggs. Really recommend and will get it again! The carrot cake, which was pre-frozen, was also delicious! You would never guess that it was frozen - better cake to cream cheese frosting. Moist and not too sweet. Definitely a favorite of mine! They also offer Meiomi Pinot Noir by the glass. Definitely recommend and will return! P.S. I came back two days later and picked up another chicken Cobb salad for lunch. Came here after a favorite restaurant was closed on mondays. Glad we did! The hubby drives by for work all the time and wanted to stop but never have until now! We sat at the bar top and the server was on the ball. Making sure sure she checked on us frequently! I started with a side salad and it was perfectly displayed and yummy!We both got the red Chile wrap and it was good. Needed more meat than rice but still good! Plenty of beers and cider on tap! Today was my daughter's birthday. This is where she chose to go since it's one of her favorites. We had the most frustratingly rude server. She walked away as we asked for things. We had to ask several times for a birthday song (even though we made a reservation for a birthday party). Finally, as we were about to leave my daughter burst into tears because she heard several others get birthday songs in the 2.5 hours we were there (because our food took forever) and she still didn't get a song.
