House Special Pizza
Todd B.

4.0* (out of 5) Food: 4* Atmosphere: 4* Value: 4* Service: 4* 03/25/2024 After vowing to never return to this restaurant following a terrible experience in early 2021 during COVID (see original review below), we decided to give it another try and sample their Monday Burgers & Brews special. They also had a Happy Hour from 3-6 that I found on HappyHourDesMoines.com, so thought this would be a great Monday stop for dinner with family visiting from out of town. Clearly, this visit was MUCH better than the last one and I found it to be an overall solid pub experience. Nothing stood out as extremely good (other than possibly the onion rings), but everything was well above-average. My wife ordered the Kansas Rancher burger with Onion Rings (see picture), my Dad ordered the House Special pizza (see picture) and I ordered the South Philly burger (see picture). As mentioned earlier, we all agreed that the Onion Rings were the highlight of our meals - crispy and full of flavor. The pizza was also very good and while the toasted brioche bun and toppings were great on the South Philly, I was disappointed with the hamburger patty. The appearance was poor (looked like it was literally cut off the end of a hamburger tube and thrown on the grill), there was little flavor and it was over-cooked (our server asked how I wanted it prepared and I ordered medium-rare, but it came medium to medium-well). A solid local pub with above average food and service. 01/2021 Believe this is the first 2* rating that I've given and unfortunately the lady serving at the bar deserved it. Stopped here for dinner with my wife and adult son tonight. We were told that the wait would be about 20 minutes, so I asked if I could buy a beer at the bar and drink it by the door while waiting - to which she said yes. We walked to the other side of the bar area and found a small table without a COVID / social distancing sign, so thought we would just stand there and drink. The male bartender immediately stopped to tell us that there were only 2 stools, so he couldn't server us as a group of 3. Therefore I told my wife and son to sit there and I would go back to the front door area and drink a beer there while waiting. I walked around to the front door side of the bar again to order my beer...but not before the male bartender 'tattled' to the female that she shouldn't serve me because we were a group of 3. I explained that I was going to drink my beer on my own, so she served me. Then, my wife and son were told that they couldn't sit at that small bar table after all, as they wanted to seat restaurant patrons there - so they came over to join me by the front door. When my wife went up to order the same beer I was drinking, the female bartender was very rude, wouldn't serve her and said I wasn't allowed to drink by the front door. I have no idea what the actual rule was, after being told two different things...but after the way she treated my wife, we removed our names from the waiting list and immediately left the restaurant. The waiting list at Jethro's up the street was similar, we were able to have a beer in peace while waiting and the food was great. I was looking forward to trying their food, but unfortunately after this experience we probably won't return and wouldn't recommend this restaurant until they figure out what their COVID rules are and begin to treat their customers with respect. if there is an option to eat at the other place, that's not called the other place, go there, not here.

"I think they need to change the fry oil" was the first thing I said when the waitress brought her food. I can't believe there's 11 locations of this. The service was great. No complaints about the service. The food was absolutely horrible though. The chili was watery, not very hardy. The Fries were a darkish golden color. The chicken tenders were almost black. The fry oil is clearly bad or the fryer is broken. This was absolutely horrible and unacceptable. We were there in a Sunday and the place was about 80% empty, and I guess the word got around before we were there for the first time. Server was cool. People that worked there were nice. The food just sucks beyond any comprehension for a place of the size. Wow, that was bad. Attached is the picture of today's chicken tender and fries. Honey mustard just left in the picture so you can see that no filter was used to darken it up. It was that bad.

Fried mushrooms appetizer was great, and the order is much larger than expected. The Sicilian Pizza was fantastic, the ingredients on this pizza actually compliment each other Certainly recommend this establishment.

The thing about going at lunch time is that the service is actually pretty fast. We did get slices and salad so it was pre-cooked. I was disappointed that the slices were not hot and also a little dry. Definitely needed more sauce on the slices. The noise level inside is just perfect so you can sit and talk with friends and not feel like the table next to you is part of the conversation. Much appreciated.

Yes, please! On our little Christmas getaway we found this gem! It's a great spot for appetizers and it looked like many had pizzza. We came in on a Friday around 6 and it was packed. There was a bowl game on so it was a fun environment. My family shared the chips n dips, chicken fingers, and mozzarella sticks. The mozzarella sticks were huge. I am giving only 4 stars because the waitress wasn't able to give refills or check in on our table due to the volume of patrons. No big deal- we grabbed our drinks at the bar. Definitely will be back!

Very quiet

Very quiet restaurant for 8:20pm on a Friday. It is also really confusing for my senses to have salsa music playing in the kitchen and pop in the restaurant. It was like the music was competing with each other. Had the same waitress as last time and she forgot silverware again. I just got gluttoned from cross contamination. I get this is a gluten friendly menu but if you are going to offer this on your menu it should be common sense to CHANGE your gloves before making a gf sandwich. I am now going to be miserable for several days with repercussions that continue for weeks after eating a grilled chicken sandwich with a side salad of oil and vinegar dressing that had nothing wrong with it besides someone touching it with gloves that already had gluten on it. I have been here several times before and have never had a reaction so this is very sad for me. I do not even get an apology from the waitress when I let her know I am having an alllergic reaction. Just a "well our menu is gluten friendly" Which is not helpful at all. I don't appreciate the feedback I got and do not plan to eat here again. Anyone with a FOOD ALLERGY DO NOT EAT HERE.

I've eaten here twice and was very impressed on my first visit The second trip was quite the opposite. When I went back for lunch, with two friends, we were sorely disappointed We ordered salads and 1/2 of the lettuce was brown and bitter. We brought it to the attention of our server and she simply granted, "Sorry."

Two pizzas came within 10 minutes. The third was not received within 20 minutes so I went back to the counter and inquired. It was sitting in a rack and had not even been placed in the oven. I asked why and was given some song and dance about the three were not reported as being together in a group. Silly me, I didn't know I was supposed to report that my order was with the other two. IF YOU EAT IN AT 7 STONE PIZZA BE SURE TO EXPLICITLY TELL THEM IF YOU HAVE A GROUP AND ORDER MORE THAN ONE PIZZA. I had ordered second and the first and third orders were promptly processed and baked. Why mine was set aside on a rack for some reason I do not know. We got our pizza 20 minutes after the other two were received and the other couples were almost done with their pizzas. We will eat the pizza tomorrow at home. In defense of the place, a lady came to our table and apologized. She offered to give us a gift certificate. I said I appreciated the apology and didn't want another pizza at some other time and declined the gift certificate. An apology was enough. FOOD: The pizza was delicious but would have been better hot out of the oven rather than the next day at home. AMBIANCE: Ambiance is OK but be prepared for a heavy dose of smokiness. I love the smell but some in our group did not.

Hands-down best Neapolitan style Woodfire pizza in the entire state. Neapolitan style Woodfire…read morepizza is my favorite food. I have literally tried every single one in this state (Iowa), nashville, Los Angeles.. and have had many others in other cities. The sauce taste authentic it's full of flavor, but it's not too sweet, spicy or acidic. It's robust and like I said authentic. They put the right amount on. I can't even begin to talk about the crust because I'm gonna start crying. It is so beyond good very authentic. They put an appropriate amount of cheese on the pizza. Sidenote, why do people in Iowa want to put an entire pound of cheese on every slice of a pizza it's wild to me. I have never had a bad pizza from Franco. I ordered at least once a week. If I've ever been in the store, the service is absolutely excellent, the vibe in one selection match that excellence. I wish they would open one closer to downtown!

A nice restaurant with a clean look and a couple of TVs behind the bar playing the Army Navy game. Pics on Google were promising. They were correct. Pizza is wood fired, and you can easily watch the process from most of the restaurant. A nice vibe. Like many places today, they go out of the way to be obscure with their ingredients. I asked about the sausage pizza and which item was the cheese....the server was unsure and offered me the pepperoni pizza with mozzarella replacing pepperoni with sausage. Instead, I added sausage to the pepperoni. I prefer pizza with cheese...covering the whole pizza as opposed to a small section. With the cheese thing out, I will say the crust and ingredients were fantastic. We ordered one half pizza/half salad and a whole small pizza. I didn't picture how they'd do a half pizza with an empty restaurant, but it was just a smaller crust. (Makes sense.) Beer selection was limited, but still good. Service was kind and attentive. This was a pretty good pizza joint with a try.

To kick things off, they brought out the complimentary bread basket and signature dipping oil. The oil blend is always a great start to the meal and ours was freshly stocked. For an appetizer, we tried the Calamari Fritti. The presentation was beautiful--lightly golden and piled nicely--definitely a strong start visually and texture-wise. For the main event, I ordered the Fettuccini with Lobster. The execution on the kitchen's part was a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, the pasta itself was cooked perfectly al dente, holding its structure exactly how you want a thick noodle to. On the other hand, the sauce fell a bit flat for me--it just felt a little mid-tier and lacked that rich, memorable flavor pop you look for in a luxury pasta dish. The atmosphere walks a nice line between a casual weeknight spot and a slightly more upscale evening out. It's got a warm, energetic vibe that works well for a date night or a family get-together without feeling overly stuffy or pretentious. I would go 4 1/2 star if I could but it leans more towards 5.

Valentine's Day at Biaggi's turned out to be one of the smoothest, most enjoyable holiday dining…read moreexperiences I've had in a long time. I made our reservation in advance at 11:30 AM. Since Biaggi's was operating reservation-only for Valentine's Day, I didn't want to risk it. Smart move. When we arrived for our early lunch reservation, the place was almost completely empty - quiet, calm, and beautifully set up for what would clearly become a packed evening later. There was something really special about being there early. The white tablecloths were perfectly pressed, the fireplace was glowing, soft lighting filled the room, and the entire space felt intimate and relaxed. No noise. No crowd. Just that upscale Italian ambiance without the rush. We were seated immediately, and the service was attentive from the start. Water glasses filled. Warm bread delivered. Friendly but professional tone. There was zero stress in the air - which is rare for February 14th. Now let's talk about the Chicken Marsala. The presentation was elegant and clean. Golden-brown chicken cutlets layered in a rich Marsala wine sauce, surrounded by earthy mushrooms and caramelized onions. On the side were creamy mashed potatoes with a bright lemon wedge and fresh herbs sprinkled over top. Vibrant sautéed greens added color and balance to the plate. The chicken was tender and perfectly cooked - juicy inside with a light crust that held up beautifully in the sauce. The Marsala sauce itself was outstanding. Deep, slightly sweet, earthy, and glossy. Not too thick. Not too salty. Just balanced and layered with flavor. The mushrooms were plentiful and meaty, adding real substance rather than just garnish. The mashed potatoes were smooth and buttery, and they soaked up that sauce perfectly. A little squeeze of lemon brightened the whole dish and kept it from feeling heavy. The sautéed greens were fresh and lightly dressed - a perfect contrast to the richness of the Marsala. What impressed me most was the execution. Even though it was early and the restaurant was still quiet, the dish felt like it was prepared with full care and attention - not rushed, not pre-staged, not sitting under heat lamps. By the time we were finishing, you could tell they were preparing for the evening rush. Reservations were coming in, tables were being set with precision, and the staff clearly had a well-organized plan for the night. Choosing the early reservation at 11:30 AM turned out to be a hidden advantage. It felt like a private Valentine's lunch in a beautifully prepared restaurant before the evening energy took over. Biaggi's delivered not just good food, but a calm, elegant experience on a day when many places feel chaotic. The Chicken Marsala alone is worth returning for. We'll absolutely be back - maybe next time for dinner when the room is glowing with full Valentine's energy.
