I called in an order for two pizzas and was told they would be ready in 25-30 minutes. We just arrived to pick up our pizzas and AFTER we paid for the pizza, we are then told by the hostess, "we're really backed up and have no idea when your pizzas will be done." Are you kidding me? I went to UNI. I felt like this was the restaurant and pizza I loved in CF but the atmosphere is a little cleaner and newer and a little more "grown up." This is a fun date. It's loud and there's TVs and high tops and the bar is great. The pizzas are what you're here for, though. My classic favorite is a sausage pizza (which I don't order anywhere else), but I tell you what, I've tried the grinder pizza and the buffalo chicken pizza too and there are just too many good choices. Forego the sides, there's nothing special about any of those, but don't forget to order a pepsi with grenadine, and you are set. read more

Called in a pizza order to go at 5pm for a 5:30 pickup. Showed up at 5:31 and waited at least another 15 minutes for it. I'm guessing they didn't even put it in until I got there. Also, picked this place because I had a coupon for $5 off. Ordered two medium pizzas and after the coupon, the total was still $35. One was a single topping! Overpriced. There were at least three others sitting and waiting for their carry out orders the same time as me. The place was not busy for a Friday night...plenty of tables open both at the bar and in the dining room. As for the pizza, there were lots of toppings and good cheese coverage. Well the atmosphere is cool but I can't seem to find anything on their menu that is good. Thought I'd give them another chance and do a takeout. I showed up nearly 10 minutes early and my order was brought right away. That got me wondering how long had it been sitting there for? Food shouldn't be prepared ahead of time. Even worse, the fries were in a sealed container with no air holes - a soggy mess. So the food had definitely been sitting there at least 5-10 minutes. I guess if I'd showed up on time the fries would have been even worse, and the fries and wings I also ordered would have been cold too. Totally disgusting and bland food - we had an Uber delivery with $50 worth of food / a 12" special pizza ordered with crisp crust and no green olives due to allergies showed up loaded with green olives and soggy undone crust / the appetizer with assortment of onion rings, mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders and mushrooms was bland and undercooked- and the French dip was bland, soggy, very little beef and soggy fries/ u let the dog have the chicken tenders after scraping the breading off and the rest of the order went in the trash. My found memories of working at UNI and frequenting the OP at least 3 times a week have been ruined - there's a saying "1 and done" and that's how our family feels about TOP. read more

This is more of an "upscale" sports bar and grille, since it's in the nice area of Clive/West Des Moines near the business park area. Has a good look on the inside with TVs and a lot if seating. For the food, pizza has just okay. The cheese was the best part, has a nice blend. Sauce was alright, and the crust I didn't like to much, kinda bland and tough to me. It was wing nite, for .59 cents bit a bad deal. Only issue was I had to get 13, wish I could get smaller portions. They do come on a plate of lettuce, yes big lettuce. I could do without that, wings don't need to be fancy. But u guess the area calls for it? But the sauces were just okay, had the super hot and hot. Let's be honest: this is a very average local chain that doesn't aim very high. It has a basic sports bar layout that isn't particularly fun or lively. The bar is located out of the way to the side like an afterthought. Everything we ordered was greasy and over-salted for our taste. The kettle chips are so salty I found them inedible. I expected my pepper jack chicken wrap to be lively, but it was bland and tasteless. The "jalapeño wrap" was colorless and chewy. Giving this place one star as they do have pretty decent food, but when looking strictly at service this places gets a zero. Just left this place (Sunday January 9) plenty of football on and the place was relatively dead in regards to the amount of people in the building. It took a solid 5 minutes to get eye contact with the bartender to get a drink. She was kind but once we got the initial drink we were ignored. Sat at the bar for another solid 20 minutes and watched servers talk amongst each other, ask how their night went, one was talking about how intoxicated she was the night before and lastly watching the bartender tip out other servers out and etc. Our drinks are now empty and our bartenders is more interested in cleaning off an empty table then asking if we would like anything at all! I had to call our bartender over to get our tab as I came to the realization that if it was taking this long to get food ordered, it was going to take forever to fulfill our order! We continually try to give this place the benefit of the doubt especially if it is busy! I just don't understand the lack of service! We had an issue 3 weeks ago with a take out order that took an hour and a half to fulfill but was told 30 minutes on the phone. From other reviews it appears I'm not the only one with concerns. We left and went to another establishment that was able to greet me 30 seconds upon arriving and the place is PACKED! I'm allergic to wheat and what feels like a zillion other things so it's nice to find a GF pizza crust option I can eat and enjoy. We ordered 2 GF pizzas and the restaurant had only one crust left so we simply decided to do only one pizza instead. That was plenty of food. And it was delicious. I mean what's not to love about meat and peppers and onions. It was exactly what we wanted. If the worst thing that happens on a given day is that I don't get a GF cheese pizza, no big deal. The waitress was apologetic, the manager was apologetic, and we had a really good meal. Y'all. Seriously. I do not go looking for free food and when I've eaten a thing with zero complaints I fully expect that I'll pay for the meal. Honestly it's important for me to pay for the meal. Ugh too many chances! We really do love the food here. They have a massive lack of leadership and no self awareness for the horrible service. Came in on Sunday went to the bar to watch football. (Not busy at all) Still took the bartender more than 5 minutes to greet us. We told them what we wanted for drinks and my wife made the comment we were absolutely starving. I said if you could grab us a couple menus we will throw in apps asap. 25 minutes later empty drinks and literally waving our hands at the bartender. We finally just asked for our check. Thank goodness we knew that the girl 3 seats down had just got off her shift at the OP and was so hungover because the bartender last night was serving her straight vodka. Fantastic and amazing place to grab food! Service is great quality too. Everything is hand-breaded if fried and the Tenderloin is flawless. An honest staple of sandwich that they do excellent with. Have been here a couple of times now. The atmosphere is pretty good and the drinks aren't bad but I'm not overly impressed with the food I've had there. Granted, I've only had the pizza but it's not great pizza. The crust tastes ready made and the toppings can be interesting. If I do come back here, I'll be sure to try something besides the pizza. read more

Came here with my usual set of friends after a horrible experience at Old Chicago the previous week. Unfortunately, little was done to make this our full-time replacement. While we saw empty tables upon walking in, we were told there was a 15 minute wait, which really isn't that big of a deal. Once we were started, each member of our party ordered something different. One ordered a pizza to be split, one ordered a sandwich, one ordered a sandwich to be shared, and I ordered a basket with fried goodies. The person who ordered the pizza also ordered an appetizer of fried mushrooms. This came out fairly quickly and the mushrooms were very large. I despise mushrooms so I can't describe the taste, but size wise, they fall in between a button and a portabella. Then the wait for our food began. 30 minutes passed and nothing else had arrived, though our server mentioned that it should be done soon. At least 20 more minutes passed and food had not arrived and we discussed simply leaving. Shortly thereafter, a manager came out and profusely apologized for the long wait and stated she would be giving us 50 percent off our tickets. This is the only reason I gave a 3-star review; our server was proactive before we could complain about the situation. The food was pretty good--the chicken tenders were crunchy and the housemade honey mustard had a nice balance of sweet and savory. The fries are crinkle-cut and had a nice blend of black pepper and other spices (sea salt and garlic salt, I believe) on them. Food was cooked well; nothing was undercooked or burnt. For those of you looking for a place to take a date and watch the game, I would skip this place. This isn't the fault of the restaurant, but there were a lot of screaming, yelling kids that played together on a sports team that detracted from our experience as well. I imagine this restaurant is popular because it is rather large and has a menu that can suit everyone's taste, but I found it aggravating to hear a bunch of 10 year olds scream lyrics to a song that I doubt they knew the true meaning of. read more

The OP just opened on University where the old Boston's was located. We stopped in for lunch on Saturday. Got there early (11 am) and am glad we did, because the place was pretty full by the time we left. I like the new decor. They took down the wall between the bar and dining area, and it makes it look a lot bigger and more open. Waitstaff was very friendly and we had great service. They are currently operating with a limited menu, but our server said the full menu will be available soon. All four of us got individual pizzas and were very happy with our food. I had the buffalo chicken pizza and it was great. My wife said her taco pizza was one of the best she's had. My parents also had good things to say about their food as well. Happy to see something good go into this location. We'll definitely be back! read more

Ok so I heard the pizza was good, but that was clearly and understatement. It was phenomenal!!!!! When I got there the hostess was very nice and although I was sitting alone she allowed me to choose where I wanted to be seated. My waitress was kool and very knowledgeable about favorites on the menu. I actually asked for a strawberry lemonade which they didn't have. However the waitress did her best to accommodate it with a lemonade mixed with Grenadine. Hmmm and that was pretty good! The pizza that I chose was a Philly Cheesesteak Pizza. It included perfectly cooked cheesesteak, mozzarella, onions, green peppers and sour cream!!! It was delicious. I see why they are known as the best pizza place in town!! There were so many options of pizza to choose from; they even had a Taco pizza!!! If ever in town again I'm going to have to stop by and indulge in another specialty pizza!! read more

As a Waverly native, I was excited to see an OP here in Des Moines! They have totally awesome pizza that was a special treat when I was a kid. On this visit, BF & I opted to split too smaller pizzas, the BBQ Chicken, which has red onion and cilantro on it (YUM!) and the classic House Special. Honestly I would eat any pizza that came out of that kitchen. SO GOOD. Dining room was clean, service was friendly. Something I noticed that I thought was a very smart idea was there are LOTS of 6-top tables. If you have a bigger group, you should be able to find a place to sit. I just know a lot of places have mostly 4-top tables and that can mean long waits for seating if you have more than 4. Definitely a plus to see so many group tables! They don't have a beer list, so from what our server rattled off, the selection was decent. But I'd say if you're more of a craft beer person, you're choices are probably slim. read more

I have tried the side salad, tenderloin, and buffalo chicken pizza. All were fresh, hot and tasty. I did like the homemade touch of the tenderloin, I felt like they breaded that to order behind the counter and the quality of the pork was gas good as you could expect. The pizza was very tasty and had great cheese on it. Of course I sampled local brews and exile brewing didn't dissapoint aith it's ruthie that I have become a large fan of. My only complaint was the noise. It was loud and hard to have a conversation at the table. I would visit and recommend this to anybody. read more

I had read the other reviews and someone Had said the pizza taste like Digorno Frozen Pizza? She was dead on! Not good pizza at all and it didn't have the buffalo sauce on it hardly at all. Place has beer and TVs. That is the good part. I have been multiple times and desperately want it to be good because it is so close to my work but every time I go I am reminded why it is not good. Service is baaaad. They overcharge so check your ticket. and they take forever to ask for orders. I wish I could give this place a better review because I have been to the original in Cedar Falls but this one just fell flat on it's face. When we got there the hostess informed us we would have a table in about 30 minutes, we don't mind waiting so we waited... an hour and a half later we had a table. The service is extremely disappointing. It felt like every time we asked our waitress for something it was a burden. When we received our food (after a long wait again) it was completely underwhelming. If I wanted crappy pizza at an overcrowded restaurant I could have gone to pizza hut. Would not recommend. The waiter (young blonde guy) forgot our beers- which tasted extremely flat and rubbery, came to our table once and shorted my boyfriend over $30 for our change.
