Large Hawkeye (sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, and bacon) with added mushrooms.
    Dan T.

Lots of running around today... We ended up at Coach's Pizza in West Glen (West Des Moines) for an early dinner. I like Coach's. It's got that local bar feel to it in an area that doesn't seem to really lean that way anymore. It just seems so commercialized out there... It's a take a seat anywhere type of place with a good menu. Pizza, apps, sandwiches, other entrees. There's self-serve fountain drinks, but I find I seldom have to get up to do it myself. The servers are always on top of it. We were greeted as we approached the bar area. Our drink orders were taken quickly and we were presented with menus. A couple minutes later we ordered a 16" (large) Hawkeye (sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, and bacon) and added mushrooms. Heather just got water, but I ordered a Coke. The pizza came out after a short wait and was piping hot. I had to use a fork for the first slice... I know I know...a cardinal sin. The crust is crisp and I wouldn't call it thin...but it's far from thick. Homestyle maybe? The sauce on our pizza was a marinara style. Thick and zesty...there's nothing subtle about it, but it's good. Similar to Corigliano's or Rocky's Pizza (a pizza I grew up on in Iowa Falls). The mushrooms were placed under the cheese so they steamed and cooked...they weren't placed on top to dry out (yay!). Total was $24 and change before tip. The tables there make it a good place for larger groups. I think all the tables are six-tops or larger. There is a bar with stool seating available too. The East entrance is not handicap accessible. There is a West side entrance and I think that one might be...so if you have a companion with a wheelchair or walker check out the West entrance before getting discouraged. Lots of big screens to catch your games on. I was waffling between Coach's or Taste of New York today. Coach's got the nod. Date of service: 9/23/2017

chicken tender salad, the chicken was excellent.

So many questions about thos place? What star rating do I give it? 1,2 or 3? Service was horrible. I came in before my friend and ordered a drink. i told her i was waiting for a fry. 20 minutes later, server hasn't checked back with me, my friend arrives. we wait another 20 minutes before the serve comes around, she asks if we're ready, my friend said I don't know, I haven't seen a menu or got a drink yet. In all my years of serving. I would have said oh, I need to take care of this table. but o. Next question...to order the fettuccine alfredo or the crispy chicken salad? She said everyone loves the salad. So salad it is. The salad was good, but they fill the bowl to the top and it's hard to get to the lettuce without everything else spilling out of the bowl. The chicken peices were to big to eat they needed to be cut smaller, but all I hot was a fork. I had to put my chicken on the plate that the salad bowl was served on to cut the chicken. Not sure what kind of lettuce it was but it appeared to be all peices with the big spine core through it. I don't care for that. I ate the chicken and that's about it. it was a good sized portion and it looked good in the bowl. but they need a bigger bowl and smaller cut chicken, or at must give me a knife and I'll cut it myself.Maybe this server has been threatened with a knife before, so no knifes will be used. My friends fettuccine was good. I don't find many restaurants have good fettuccine alfredo, this is good. On to questions 3. I went to the restroom, single person room. There are two rolls of TP in the holder, the one that is open and available won't turn, so you can't get TP. It won't switch over to the other roll. I can't rip any TP off the current roll. So now the question is to pee or not to pee? I need to pee and it's kinda like the running water, I GOTTA PEE! I can reach the paper towels, perfect pee. zip wonder how many women flushed their paper towels down that toilet? It took forever to pay our bill's, it's a good thing that my friend and I enjoy each others company. The future question is will we be back? Good food, terrible service. I've eaten there before and never had that bad of service, so I guess I'll probably come back. The pizza is excellent. I'll just make sure ahead of time we have adequate silverware, napkins and drinks before the food comes. So how many stars? 4 out of 5 for food, the lettuce was all cores. 1 out of 5 for service, the only way it could have gotten worse was by being rude, or never coming back. Restaurant is decorated for Christmas, very well done Christmas decor. It seemed to be clean except for the pule of TP scraps in the bathroom, where women were trying to dig out some TP off the unmoving roll. So two stars it is. I'm usually generous with my ratings, but this one I just can't condone being any better.

Good on topping but there is a negligible amount of sauce

The food is freshly made and the staff are friendly. It reminded me of the show cheers, they didn't know my name but you're always welcome!

Was expecting much better pizza. The globs of "cheese" doomed the pizza. Service was friendly, but we won't be going back

My favorite pizza in Des Moines, if not everywhere. Get 1/2 grinder 1/2 cyclone, it's truly amazing.

They have multiple specialty pizzas such as the cyclone and the Hawkeye, but you really can't go wrong with any flavor.

A nice restaurant with a clean look and a couple of TVs behind the bar playing the Army Navy game. Pics on Google were promising. They were correct. Pizza is wood fired, and you can easily watch the process from most of the restaurant. A nice vibe. Like many places today, they go out of the way to be obscure with their ingredients. I asked about the sausage pizza and which item was the cheese....the server was unsure and offered me the pepperoni pizza with mozzarella replacing pepperoni with sausage. Instead, I added sausage to the pepperoni. I prefer pizza with cheese...covering the whole pizza as opposed to a small section. With the cheese thing out, I will say the crust and ingredients were fantastic. We ordered one half pizza/half salad and a whole small pizza. I didn't picture how they'd do a half pizza with an empty restaurant, but it was just a smaller crust. (Makes sense.) Beer selection was limited, but still good. Service was kind and attentive. This was a pretty good pizza joint with a try.

Lol I took at look at their menu online and it's not a big menu... Build your own 7-Stone crust (thick) and artisan crust (thin) along with six different specialty pizzas. Big into appetizers? Don't plan on it here. They have cheesebread and side salads. They offer a couple different items for lunch specials (Wednesday - Friday 11am to 2pm)...toasted hoagies and a half pizza combo. It's order and pay at the counter. Pepsi self serve fountain drinks. Plates, utensils, napkins, and pizza spatulas are beside the fountain drink station. Parmesan and red pepper are on the tables. Seat yourself. The seating is a combination of booths and low top tables and chairs. There's a small counter with seating as well. The business itself is in a strip so there is lots of parking available. There was one gal behind the counter taking orders as well as cooking and serving pizzas. Two younger ladies came in a bit later, but it was hard to tell if they were actual staff or daughters there to hang out with their mom (or maybe both). Staff was friendly enough. Our party ordered: 1x large House7 on 7-Stone crust 1x large buffalo chicken on artisan crust 2x small pepperoni pizzas on artisan crust 1x large cheesebread 1x side salad 7x fountain drinks It was a short wait for everything to get cooked and served. The thicker 7 Stone crust takes about 20 min. The artisan...probably half that. The 7 Stone crust vaguely reminds me of when Pizza Hut still cooked in cast iron. The toasted crust with cheese burnt like little vertical stalagmite (that's the cave formations that form from the floor up)... That was something neat to see. I haven't had a crust like that in a long time. The artisan crust is thinner of course, but perfect for folding. You like a little char? This gives you that in some bubbling aound the edges, but the bottom of the pizza crust is not burnt. I really enjoyed the buffalo chicken pizza! I'm not sure what it was but for me there was something off about the red sauce... It wasn't "bad" but just tasted off. At first I thought it might be a residual taste from the black olives from the House7, but the red sauce on the pepperoni pizzas had the same taste. Maybe it was the plum tomatos they use v. roma or another more traditional variety? Bang for the buck... To me it seemed a little pricey. $22 for a small cheese pizza on 7-Stone. $20 for a small cheese on artisan. $33 for a large specialty on 7-Stone. $31 for a large speciality pizza on artisan. But that might just be me... The company was buying for the two of us today so... The cost is sort of irrelevant outside of mentioning the noted pricing in general. When the company is buying I really don't care. But I'm kind of glad they were paying for it... Lol But no one walked away hungry that's for sure...! And the leftovers I took home will get eaten as long as it warms up anywhere near the same (follow up edit: it did). This is a tough one for me... It's kind of like Gusto. I had a ton of friends who loved the place. I just never cared for it. And there was no particular reason... Is this some place I would return to? Maybe if invited again... But while it's not exactly my favorite... You might love it! Definitely worth checking out! https://www.7stonepizzeria.com/

That was very nice of her. The ingredients tasted really fresh, and the crust was tasty in the wood fire oven.
