From the eggs that were cook perfectly, to the thick, tasty, no fat bacon to the pancakes with real ripped cream and coffee. I haven't had a breakfast that was that good since I don't know when. We've been going to The Original Pancake House for many years, and the Anaheim location has always been my favorite. I also visit the Chapman Avenue location in Orange because it's close to home. The food has consistently been excellent -- great pancakes, outstanding bacon, and truly exceptional fresh orange juice. The quality of the ingredients has never been in question. What has become a problem is the price. Breakfast has traditionally been the most affordable meal of the day, yet the cost here now rivals what I would spend taking my entire family out to a nice dinner. When you're charging premium prices, the service and environment should match that standard. Unfortunately, our recent visit to the Orange location was extremely disappointing. We stood at the podium for several minutes without being greeted. Multiple servers walked past us, made eye contact, and said nothing -- not even a simple "We'll be right with you." Meanwhile, a young employee was casually chatting with a coworker at the bus station, clearly more focused on small talk than on guests waiting to be seated. When our server finally approached the table, he leaned against our booth as if he couldn't be bothered to stand upright and delivered a rushed, mumbled line that sounded like one long word: "coffeejuicewaterorsomethingtodrink." No greeting, no introduction, no courtesy. We gave our coffee order, and he walked away without acknowledging us. The service continued in the same tone. Drinks were dropped off with visible annoyance. When my wife accidentally over‑sweetened her coffee and politely asked for a fresh cup, the server took the mug without a word and returned several minutes later looking irritated. She said "Thank you," and he ignored her. She repeated it louder, and he still walked away without responding. It's hard to overstate how disrespectful and apathetic the staff felt during this visit. When servers behave this way, it reflects directly on management. The attitude, the lack of basic courtesy, and the sense that guests are an inconvenience -- it all points to a culture that has gone unchecked for far too long. On top of that, the restaurant itself shows clear signs of deferred maintenance. Worn surfaces, dirty areas, and general neglect do not inspire confidence about what the kitchen might look like behind the scenes. We left feeling disappointed and honestly a bit sad. This was our first time at this location. We were very excited to try hopes for it.. I felt that our server was rude. I did not care for him. But the biggest issue that I had was the price! YIKES. It was for myself, my son and my four-year-old grandson, not purchase a I had , my son had a lemonade, and my grandson had a apple juice, a small apple juice. I ordered eggs and so did my son had no idea that a breakfast at the house of pancakes did not come with any kind of potatoes. It only came with the eggs and three small sized pancake pancakes. My son ordered an omelette also with no eggs and had to pay extra for his pancake pancakes. I did add on some potatoes. They did not have hashbrowns just cubed potatoes. My grandson had a pancake. Our bill for three of us two adults and one child was $72.00 with a $12.00 Tip. For a Total of $84.00 Mind. blowing. When I was young, my best friend was my American Eskimo dog Willy. He was so friendly, loving and loyal I couldn't imagine another person I could love more than Willy. We did everything together and he was by my side at all times, making sure I smiled and was in a good mood. Willy, although eager to eat the food I was eating he would also seem eager to eat the dog food we would leave out for him in the morning time. So one afternoon while my parents were at work, I decided to have a taste of what looked like corned beef hash but smelled like corned beef a$$. I don't have to tell you how this story ends but I will. I threw up and learned a valuable lesson that day, dog food is for dogs and not humans. Well this morning when I stopped by the Original Pancake House and ordered my favorite breakfast, corned beef hash, my taste buds were instantly taken back to that horrible morning where I found out, first hand, that dog food is disgusting. I was tricked by my eyes and flawed reasoning. I saw a line of people going into this establishment and it always seemed busy with locals during breakfast time. "This place must have delicious food," I thought. I was wrong! I don't know what kind of MK Ultra has been done to the patrons of this restaurant but it was probably the worst breakfast I've ever had. Stopped in for breakfast and ordered the Eggs Florentine, Jim's Potatoes, and the Pigs in a Blanket. The Eggs Florentine had a nice, light flavor thanks to the tomato and spinach, though I was a bit disappointed that the poached eggs were overcooked. It also came with a side of fluffy pancakes, which were a pleasant addition. The orange sauce was especially refreshing and delicious! The Jim's Potatoes were generously topped with bacon and cheese and were absolutely delicious! The Pigs in a Blanket came with a hearty portion of sausage and paired perfectly with syrup. Took my mom here for brunch. It was nice coming during the week and a bit later in the day, as there was no wait. We were immediately seated in a nice booth. Our waitress was attentive and very friendly. We split the corned beef hash and eggs to start. The hash is homemade and delicious. Tender, seasoned well, and my mom loved it. The eggs were cooked perfectly to order. Since we wanted the Apple pancake I took home the regular pancakes home! The Apple pancake was huge, hot and delicious. I am a big fan of The Original Pancake House and usually go to the one more south! However, This is my FIRST time at this location here in Orange. And Wow, what a difference... Firstly, In my opinion, everything seems to be overly buttered and overly salty. I ordered the same thing I ordered, at the other Original Pancake House location in my Yelp reviews. In a nutshell.... Basically, I'm never coming back to this location, Found myself with my stomach queasy, and had to drink a lot of water to wash down the butter and salt. In addition, wasn't too pleased with the staff, seeing mature adults, horsing around singing, cultural songs... it just wasn't my vibe. And didn't expect to find it here. In addition, They need to put some money into the decor. The seating felt like old 1960s car seats, deflated with bumps. Nothing was delicious. And our food was over $75 I went there because of the name brand, I should've spent my money elsewhere. My family members didn't even want to eat the leftovers, we took home. - it's actually still in our fridge. The corn, beef and hash, the worst I've ever ordered at a restaurant. I wanted the 49er and the two locations by me were just slammed as usual. I knew of this one but its just so far but literally had a 5 minute wait so decided to make the treck. I get there and was honestly impressed with how big it is. It's probably the nicest Original Pancake House I've been to. Plenty of space, clean inside, and it didn't feel cramped like some of the other locations. The food was solid as always, consistent with what you'd expect. I my 49er well done that I always get with eggs and bacon on the side. No, I don't eat everything lol. I really wish the ones closer to me were this spacious, because this would probably be my go-to if it wasn't such a drive. I'm giving it 4 stars mainly because of the distance. The original pancake house has been a go to place ever since my wife introduced me to this wonderful, iconic pancake breakfast specialty restaurant near the Orange Heights. It's part of a big national chain that is famous for all day breakfast menu. Their original apple pancakes are to die for. The rest of their line ups are equally amazing. The service is fantastic and they have the most reasonable pricing anywhere. When the rest of the breakfast restaurants franchises are suffering due to high costs of the employees and suppliers jacking up the food prices such as eggs and bacons, the Original Pancake House kept them in check. I had the best ham, best corned beef's hash and the acceptable dripped coffee. Hopefully in the future they will upgrade their coffee and true orange juice that are freshly squeezed. read more

The hostess and seater today at the Orange location were incompetent, rude, argumentative and condescending. This male and female duo make a great team - if driving away business is the goal. It is amazing these two ever got past their initial interview. We left before we were seated. Our families WILL NOT be coming back. This is not the first time we've had issues at this particular location, (rude, abrupt service, overpowering AC ventilation, inattentive staff, cold food - probably from the gale force air blowing all the time, etc...) This Sunday morning I went to this eatery for the time. As you as you drive into the parking lot, you can smell the strong whiff of cooked eggs in the air. There was large crowd of seated restaurant patrons and a waiting line. As a party of three, my friends and I waited only 5 minutes. They ordered the Vegetarian Omelette without onions combo that came with pancakes but they opted for a plain Belgian waffle instead. I ordered a side of fluffy biscuits with butter and jam. The fluffy biscuits had no taste, looked almost white, and was tepid. Fluffy biscuits should have a golden crispy exterior with a flaky airy interior and a tangly and lightly sweet taste. Sad that this location seems to have gone downhill in the last few years. Today I ordered the corned beef hash & eggs with upgraded pancakes (upgrades to strawberry pancakes). The corned beef hash looks and tastes different than it used to. It's now a pile of mush, tastes heavily like vinegar, and was very chewy with gristle pieces. The scrambled eggs were rubbery. The only edible part of my meal was the strawberry pancakes (they were delicious as always). I think it's going to be a few years before I try this location again. Too many tables not enough output to consistently meet demand with a quality product. Make me wait 20 minutes to sit rather than sit at a table unattended for 20 minutes, to then have mediocre service and worse food. The staff are clearly not the issue, it's a management/ownership problem for certain. I don't want to make it clear that there are plenty of options for eating breakfast in Orange County as a means to take anything away from this place- but there are. Knowing that, if the owner continues resting on "original" to carry my buisness instead of aiming for "the best", this place will close soon. Resting on laurels gets you nowhere, you NEED TO IMPROVE CONSTANTLY or else. The service as a result of management (not individually ONE manager or any individuals but as a word to describe the control of the restaurant) needs a serious overhaul, quality dips below two stars and maxes at 4, so not just room to improve but work to be done in general to keep the place from closing doors. The staff are 25% better than fast food but half as good as most brunch places I've been to. If this place had a better strategy it would be better. You get what you pay for though. There are a LOT of tables sat on busy days, and clearly there needs to be a larger waiting area and less seating in the actual restaurant. Any good restaurant will know there is a maximum output for personnel and not overstep, because you sacrifice quality to meet unnecessary demand. Not this place. Seriously it's a math equation, a simple grade school level math equation. Dated interior, weird layout, strongly recommend a remodel or renovation soon, hell even a coat of paint or two. I duress, let's start small and focus on building a strategy for not overloading the kitchen, and servers. You don't need to spend money, just maintain what you already have for crying out loud. Located off Chapman Avenue in an older strip mall, there is plenty of parking available out front. Weekends are a bit chaotic so the service isn't as attentive which I imagine is not the standard. We had a large party and a few items ordered were forgotten or late to come out, but it was an overall positive experience. According to their website, The Original Pancake House was founded in 1953...can you believe that?? Their constant objective is to serve the finest pancakes available and their menu showcases this with 20+ different variations including Banana Nut, Swedish, Pumpkin and Pecan among others. My go-to for breakfast is always the Corned Beef Hash and their rendition includes homemade hash, a blend of corned beef, potatoes, black pepper and onions. It's also served with two eggs any style and of course PANCAKES! I like to wash my meal down with a cup of coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. What a great way to start the day! read more

After they closed iHop in Tustin/Irvine we set out to find a new place for pancakes. And we found The Original Pancake House. We are so glad to have found this place and it isn't too far from us. I was especially happy to see they have Swedish pancake. iHope removed it from their menu recently and made me very upset. I am also impressed that they carry a very fancy brand of tea. Even much nicer places don't have such good tea. They aren't perfect though. I once ordered Dutch pancake and it was very undercooked. I told the waiter and he kept arguing with me that it's cooked correctly. I've had Dutch pancakes many time at much nicer places and they aren't supposed to be doughy. No pancake is supposed to be doughy. Anyway, they're usually good. There is one thing that the server did which I find very rude. When you pay, you pay electronically at the table. It asks how much tip you want to pay. The server was standing right over me and staring at the machine. Basically trying to shame me to tip more. Next time I go there, if the server does it again, I will purposely tip low so he'll learn a lesson. read more

My first time eating here was ok and actually my omelette was great. I would order it again. My omelette comes with pancakes and hash browns but i dont eat either of those so i cant comment on them.
