We've been coming to this location for quite a while now. I have never had a bad meal here. The coffee is one of my favorite diner coffees, and is always fresh and refilled in a timely fashion. There is a broad range of menu items, and the portion sizes are very generous and filling. We almost always have something to bring home with us. I am obsessed with their bacon, so will order it as a side to bring home. The food is very tasty, having ordered the same thing on several occasions, it's always consistent. Our servers have always been attentive, though I notice when it's busy, they are definitely running around a lot. It helps that the usually have someone dedicated to bringing the drink orders at the start of the service. I like the family vibe in here as well, the weekends are always full, making it a great overall experience. There's plenty parking around, and though it's busy I feel it's worth the wait. read more

Family friendly breakfast spot. Hostess seats you. Reservations recommended. We needed a high chair with our party and the hostess set one at the table before we were seated. Kids menu is paper and includes crayons. Sweet. Menu has a variety of items including chicken sausage, breakfast sandwiches and burritos, corned beef hash, Eggs Benedict and of course pancakes. The 'maple' syrup is not actually from a tree. Our waitress Maisie was excellent. Friendly and attentive, she did a great job. She took our drink order right away (coffee, water and juice), and kept the coffee and waters filled. A food runner brought the beverages over with cream for our coffees. Sugar, salt & pepper are on the table. Another food runner brought the meals. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Eggs were prepared as ordered. Nice casual ambiance with a fireplace in the diningroom where we were seated. High chair safety buckle was broken so if your little one need that check it out. We arrived shortly after opening and when we left about 90 minutes later the restaurant was filling up fast. Restrooms are clean, a diaper station is in the ladies room and the toilets are a little bit low accommodating children more easily. Love that! When it all comes down to it, it's The Original Pancake House so you can't entirely be floored by it but understand what you're getting from what is a chain breakfast establishment. Prices are high for what it is but that's the Seattle area for you. My service was kind and the meal did the job. I just needed to eat a massive amount of food (omelette, hash browns, and pancakes) that loaded me up for a full day in Seattle. Ultimately it's a sufficient place to have a sit-down breakfast in this Maple Valley/Black Diamond/Kent area. I couldn't really find any other such options that gave that cafe style. read more

I am honestly just plain sad to be making this review. My family and I have been going to The Original Pancake House for breakfast at least once a week since we moved to Maple Valley over 20 years ago. We raved to just about everyone we know about the food, the service, the portions and even the person on the other end of the phone when we would call in an order was like speaking to a little ray of sunshine. Now its almost impossible to speak to a human when you call here. Im not sure when EVERYTHING started to change but it seems it was around 3-5 years ago. My husband gave up on this restaurant a couple years ago but I have been a patient fan and hung in. Today I Quit! Its not because the side order of toast was not close to what I called toasted, had no butter and the condiments I made sure to ask for apparently no longer include any jam or jelly. Now ive spent momey on a side of toast that has no butter, not toasted. was not toasted and come without butter or jam. I hi were 50% not quite done being cooked and the other half had obviously been re-warmed so many times the fork couldn't stab them and I thought I had chipped a tooth. I am not removing this family restaurant from being an option because the people Ive interacted with no longer wear smiles and are extreemly defensive from the word Hi. Im not recommending this restraunt because I am no longer able to pay 7 bucks for a few ounces of juice that is sent with no straw. Not one order or trip in has been pleasant or issue free. Its as if everyone involved no longer has pride in their work or the restaurant. Last time I was in I was walking on someone's scrambled eggs that had not been cleaned off the floor. I am quitting this restaurant because management doesnt return calls or apologize when mistakes have been made. Its "my fault" the toast wasnt toasted or that I dont like potatoes that were originally fried days ago. I am quitting this establishment because I have not had a pleasant experience here in years and they have proven many times in the last 3 years that they do not care if we return or not. We had a great time here around noon on a Saturday. The staff were extremely friendly and several servers complimented my dad on his hat. I was thoroughly impressed with our service the entire time. The food was excellent with big portions. The omelette was almost the size of a large plate. It must have been a 4-5 egg omelette. My chicken fried steak was tasty with enough country gravy to smother the potatoes too. Pancakes were big, fluffy and had plenty of whipped butter. They were indulgent and delicious. My mom had the corn beef hash and ate it all even though it was a large crispy portion. (And she barely finishes a plate at any restaurant.) Just the slightly burnt way she likes it. BISCUITS AND GRAVY Husband is a Southern boy and he loves these BG. Biscuit is perfectly textured and the meaty white gravy is delish. EGGS AND POTATOES Lighter side menu - you get their potatoes which are sooo good, no hashbrowns here, and you eggs. No matter how I order the eggs, they are really well done (good). I get an English muffin which seems made onsite. I always add a side of bacon - you get 4 pieces - and they are cooked to perfection. You can go wrong with this. There's also a variation of pancakes, waffles or French toast that graces our table and no matter which is your pleasure you won't go wrong. So this is the Original Pancake house. I'm glad I found it cause I needed some breakfast. I'm not a Washingtonian so I had never been here before but my daughter brought home a sourdough breakfast sandwich the day before that was pretty damned good. Obviously the next day we had to go try this place out. I love breakfast. Let me rephrase that. I love a hearty breakfast and the OPH serves up hearty. I ordered the Vegetarian Omelette and my Wife had the Ham and Eggs both with coffee of course. Both dishes were excellent and enough to fill us up. Okay so we tried it again for the third time. To start we had to register and wait for a table for 15min. That would have been fine but there were empty tables everywhere. Then the waiter asks if we wanted anything to drink, Two coffees please one with cream. He asks if we needed more time, well we did just sit down so yes more time would be nice. I say no, bacon is to salty and gravy is cold. He says he can get more gravy and dose so.Then we get our bill, what breakfast restaurant charges $4.29 per cup of coffee? Really??? All in all the waiter was just okay. The wait was to much to the point that we almost left and went to McDonalds. Probably should have! The bill ended up at $51.36 before the tip. NEVER AGAIN! We were greeted with Audrey whom was extremely happy and we felt her very good energy. Right away we knew we were going to have a great experience. They were busy so we got on the waitlist by QR code which I found to be super convenient! I honestly don't know how I feel about this experience Half of the staff I interacted with gave me a good feeling about their customer service and half did not. No one was at the host area when I arrived yet the person that ended up seating me, saw me although she was washing a table and ignored me. Another girl came to that desk and never even looked at me And ignored me. The , someone told the person washing the table to come help me so she did but didn't seem happy about it. So there's that. Then the person who took my order, was very nice and checked in on me a lot and made sure I had what I needed. So that was good I appreciated that they had gluten-free pancakes. I had the plain buttermilk ones. Something about them had a slightly odd taste and I'm not sure if it was the pancakes or the syrup but I didn't end up eating them all as a result I had an omelette with only ham in it since I cannot have dairy and it was very good. I think they bake it because it comes very fluffed up in a way that I don't think you can achieve unless you bake it. it's definitely something you crave later and is very different than every other omelette you get elsewhere I would go again for the omelette only but know that the customer service wouldn't be that great. I love me some Swedish pancakes and finally tried this local place. Very unassuming, located in a row of other businesses but when you get inside it has a nice breakfast-like vibe. Place was busy for a Sunday and we had a short wait to get in. Process was efficient and we got a booth before too long. These Swedish pancakes were among some of the best I've ever had. Although this location is closer to where I live, I still prefer to go to the one located in Redmond. The pancakes served here in Maple Valley are thicker than the ones served in Redmond (I don't like thick pancakes, but do want them to be thicker than crepes.), and smaller. They taste good - I'll give them that. But because of how much thicker they are, it totally changes the texture of them, and since texture is a big deal for me, I end up enjoying them a lot less. The bacon has been perfect every time I've ordered it here, though. The tables have a nasty degraded polyurethane coating that makes them all feel sticky and unpleasant to touch or rest your hands on. The service there is very good - the people they hire are very friendly and attentive. The restaurant overall is very clean - including the tables, despite how the polyurethane coating may make them feel. The wait can be very long here, especially on the weekends. read more

If you are looking for a great breakfast place, where you can try something a little different, then you have to try The Original Pancake House. I had the Belgian Pancake, (I'm pretty sure that's what it was called) it was the size of the entire plate, no syrup needed, just butter, powdered sugar and lemon wedges to squeeze onto the pancake. It was amazing, and very filling. You know a place MUST be good when there is a little bit of a wait before you sit down. (The breakfast was totally worth the wait). It was very nice and clean and the waiter and manager were very nice and wanted to make sure everything was good. Another thing that I noticed, the manager or whoever the guy was who was at the front , checked on his staff, the customers, the quality and the place was nice and clean, I loved that they had a fireplace going and we could feel the heat coming off the fireplace. I have been wanting to eat here for several months but every time I go there is a long line out the door. This morning I found out why. Located right next to Safeway in Maple Valley. This place did not disappoint. I must've timed it right before the post church gathering. Service was quick and efficient and Rachel did an outstanding job! The banana pancakes and lemon syrup were the perfect combination. Whipped butter served on the side and light and fluffy pancakes were a delicious breakfast. I also had two scrambled eggs that were nicely done and topped out all off with a glass of orange juice. If you are in the area it's definitely worth stopping for. It's impossible to walk away from this place hungry. Never been before and I was craving some greasy breakfast food. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and they came with a giant side of potatoes, two eggs and three buttermilk pancakes! The server was incredibly nice and very attentive. Although the beverage glasses are tiny they were quick to give me a refill. I wasn't impressed with the maple syrup. It taste almost burnt and was very watery. I thought it could have a lot more flavor. The pancakes were OK but the biscuits and gravy were absolutely delicious and had a hint of nutmeg in them. I had heartburn before I left the table but I guess that's what you get when you order biscuits and gravy.
