Finally sat down at The Original Pancake House again. I went for a quick breakfast date with my boyfriend, and as always, it did not disappoint! The staff was super friendly and the food came out so fast. I order takeout from here all the time because it's always so delicious. My go to is the chicken and andouille sausage skillet.. always cooked to flavorful perfection ...and of course, the pancakes divine! Fluffy, buttery, just the best. Even when I get it to go, the portions are huge and so satisfying. My boyfriend doesn't play about his food and even he leaves full! This location is simple and a little dated inside, but honestly, the food and service make up for it completely. Great prices, great food, great service...can't ask for more.
I had the Dutch baby here a decade ago but could not remember how it tasted and I'm happy to report that on my recent visit, this dish was delightful and so yummy and light and fluffy. I highly recommend - it takes a little longer to make but it's worth the (not unreasonable) wait. My friend got one of their regular breakfast items off the menu and I enjoyed that too. All in all, a solid breakfast place in the neighborhood for those in the mood for a diner / diner-adjacent vibe.
Came here on a rainy Saturday morning & it was one of the first times there wasn't a huge line. I was able to snag a table for three as soon as we arrived. Seated in a booth, I was surprised I had to ask for a coloring sheet for a child & also they don't have a kids menu, or at least we weren't offered one. I ordered a steak skillet & chocolate chip pancakes for the kiddo. My steak skillet came out hot and packed to the top. I thought the potatoes in the skillet were a bit mushy. Otherwise everything was fine.
If there was any breakfast place you could call a classic, it would be this one. I've been coming to The Original Pancake House since I was a child and they're still cranking out the delicious breakfast food I remember. My go-to is the Blueberry pancakes. They don't skimp on the blueberries at all. They come mixed into the pancakes and they give you this amazing blueberry compote go go with it. The service is always amazing and FAST! Even on a busy morning you won't wait long for your breakfast. The overall vibe of this restaurant is that of your classic no frills breakfast spot that never fails to satisfy.
We LOVED the Original Pancake House in Beverly!! The food was delicious - high quality and fresh ingredients. I was tempted to order the Apple or Dutch pancakes but was scared off by the calories listed on the menu hahaha. The omelets are oven baked and quite large. I ate half and took the rest home and shared my buttery pancakes with my husband. He ordered the Mexican skillet and really enjoyed it - a good kick from the jalapeños. We visited the diner around 130pm last Sunday. It was pretty busy at that time but we were seated right away. It was a comfortable atmosphere with tables and booths. We love booths but since it was busy, only tables were available. Our server was helpful and prompt with getting our order. We would definitely go back when visiting Beverly!
Decent is the word that comes to mind for this experience. The food was just ok, the service was bare minimum, but our server was young. It's unfortunate when you have to keep lookin for your server. We were not offered refills, napkins... the essential needs when eating. Our tables order did come out correct, except one persons order in our group. Kudos on our server maintaining a group of about 14. But she didn't really check on us and she was pretty slow. The food was ok.
Love the food, love the service, and it's just a cozy neighborhood place to eat with a welcoming ambiance!
Not a huge fan of their food but it was nearby and I decided to try it again. Upon entering no formal greeting but was seated within a minute. Great music playing. The decor is boring, dated, stale. The menu was sticky. The server Omar was nice, friendly. Coffee is average. I ordered the Egg white scrambler - it was ok, no frills. Pancakes were good, of course they should be hence their name. U can tell they need a detailed cleaning, dust on bottom of chairs. The washroom was updated, clean. The cashier was blah - no asking how was your meal, he didn't care. Would I be back here? No, will try a suburban location just to compare.
If you're eating in the restaurant, be prepared for a wait (either short or long). But the food experience is worth it. I've been in Hyde Park for 35 plus years, and I've always been a fan of this restaurant. I ALWAYS get the exact same dish for me, but that's me and my tastes. I LOVE the egg white garden scrambler. Even as an egg white dish, it has enough heft and substance based on all of the vegetables added to the dish (and the pancakes I always order with it) that it's totally satisfying. Always. My daughter most recently had a bacon lover's meal with she and I sharing the bacon. The bacon is cooked a little harder than I'd typically do it at home, but it was still really good. The pancakes are the real reason to go here however. They are so excellent every time, and they can serve as a de facto dessert if you're going later in tehj morning or in the early afternoon. The staff is really quick (sometimes maybe too quick and brusque), but they are used to serving a lot of folks (especially on weekends). So they'll get you in and out of there (and reduce your waiting time) if they can or need to. A local institution at this point that deserves to stay around for as long as possible.
Love, love, love it! There's ample parking outside. We walked in and were immediately greeted with a smile. We were asked if we preferred a table or booth! That's a small 5-star service detail that rarely happens anymore. THE FOOD IS AMAZING!!! Perfectly seasoned! The pancakes were soft. The coffee tastes fresh! I can't say enough about this business - Other than that I highly recommend them. Can't wait to go back later this week!
I remember when the original (pun not intended but it works lol) location was in a mall where Whole Foods now sits. Now they are on 47th and Lake Park. I have been here several times! The food is consistently hot, fresh and fast! The waitresses are always nice too! The bathrooms are always nice and clean! This time I got southwestern skillet. It can easily serve two people in imo! It came with potatoes, spicy chorizo sausage, onions, jalapeño peppers, tomatoes, pepper jack cheese. Served with a side of salsa. Pancakes came with it. Delicious!!!!!!!!! There is a parking lot that you can park in too. It does get crowded.

This was a very good dining experience. We had a large group of 9 so our waitress was definitely challenged, but she handled it very well and we didn't have to wait an unreasonable amount of time for anything. This was one of the best vegetarian breakfasts I've ever had. The pancakes are amazing too. You really don't even need syrup. I would definitely go here again when I am in Chicago and you should too! read more

The original house of pancakes is a staple of Chicago. I have seen this establishment evolve over time since being in Chicago since 2005 and I must say their food stays consistent. I will add that I am not a huge pancake eater however the original house of pancakes makes their flapjacks perfect. I cannot brag more about their flavor in seasoning of their food it is top-notch. The original house of pancakes or the original as it is know in Chicago Is true southern cuisine ready for mass consumption. I got the steak skillet Which comes with a side of pancakes and a coffee it was perfect. My friends got a side of potatoes, the Belgian waffle and turkey links and they also enjoyed their meal. The original is normally a wait however in the pandemic it's pretty fast. Pricing is fare and worth every penny. Seating is spread out and mask and Vaccination cards are required for entry. The original has forever been in my eyes and still to this day a five-star experience. 5 of 5 read more
We had breakfast here before adventuring the city and heading to the airport. The last time we were here was 14yrs ago, having breakfast with my Father in law and Grandma in law. They were not able to have breakfast with us physically but they were both with us today. The food tasted just as amazing as it did on our last visit. The potato pancakes were new for me and I loved it. The eggs florentine was exceptional and so flavorful with all of the diced bacon and spinach. So delicious. My BF had the bacon & eggs, he ordered a side of grits with toast with strawberry jelly. The bacon was so crispy and cooked to perfection, eggs just the way he liked them and the toast was crisp with light butter and delicious as well. Fast service and very busy location. They said it was supposed to be a 30 minute wait but it ended up being about 20mins. Not bad at all for the amount of patrons waiting to be seated and continuously coming through the door. A must visit on our next trip to town. read more

Malessa showed us to our seating. She was very funny and lively. I don't recall the name of our server but she was good. Let me tell you now, get here early or be prepared to stand in line outside. We had about a 15 minute wait since line was down when we got there. The omelets here are huge. I recommend sharing or getting a portion to go for later. The pancakes were very tasty and nice sized. We didn't try anything else, but what we had was very good. We'd definitely return. Parking was easy enough on the side of restaurant. read more

Blueberry waffle was full of blueberries! Not bad, but the actual flavor of the waffle was mediocre. The hash browns were cooked potatoes, diced and seasoned. Usually home fries are fried harder with a crust over some of the potatoes. These were not. Should not be called hash browns. Coffee wasn't anything exciting. Typical. Free refills on soda and coffee. Lemonade one free refill. No flavor pancakes. Eggs were fine. Omelet w/veggies looked and tasted baked. Big puffy oval of egg w/veggies throughout. Not sold on the "original" in the name because w/an epic name like that this was an epic fail. I will not remember this meal. Our waitress was super attentive and quick. I found lipstick on my coffee mug. Ok blame the dishwashing machine. A lot of staff present, but surely lacking on quality control. Do better. read more

The food was bland, the sauce was congealed, the blueberries was syrup, not fresh. The restaurant is less than a 10 minute walk from my house. I heated the sauce up and it was still chunky and congealed. It came very quickly...in about 15-20 minutes. I don't like it enough to finish it. I ordered a mushroom omelet with spinach and chicken breast added. read more

Really glad I stopped in.Service is excellent.Food is delicious aaaaaand they are very close to Chicago's lakefront.Their prices were a bit higher than expected.But I guess being in Hyde Park comes with a hefty price tag so in the end it's up to us to decide if it's worth it or not.Came here SPECIFICALLY to try their bisquits & gravy.They were good.Not THE BEST though.lol.Overall I had a good exerience.Will definitely return NO DOUBT.I asked for jalapeńos and they gave me a WHOLE BOWL FULL which was GREAT!!! FRESH JALAPEŃOS goes really well for breakfast.DO RECOMMEND!!!! read more

I walked in for a to-go order and they were totally unorganized. I ordered an andouille skillet. It was awful. It appeared to be over cooked with ingredients thrown together. Presentation is everything! I would not order that again. read more

Everything was delicious. We all enjoyed our meals and were not able to finish either because there was plenty left for seconds. It was very affordable and the quantity and quality were perfect. We will be going back soon!! The service was on point our waitress made my children feel at home. She was very informative and made suggestions that we appreciated. The atmosphere is always warm and welcoming upon entering we were greeted and seated immediately. read more
