Chicago has some DOPE, BLACK-OWNED cafes and I'm trying to visit EACH ONE, starting here for a quick breakfast bite. The space is super cozy and inviting and there's plenty of food options, but FYI - There's no beef or pork served in here; turkey products, chicken, fish and veggie items only!!! They also have teas, smoothies, coffees and juices. If you're in the Hyde Park area, go support and make a stop here for breakfast or lunch. Tell 'em Sabrina from Planes and Plates sent you!

Black owned cafe in Hyde park with good energy, solid espresso, a wide variety of food, and a super friendly staff. The ambiance is cute and gives "plants & peace". I can tell they were intentional with building out the space. They also have wifi and comfortable chairs (this matters!) 10/10 recommend.

Beautiful corner cafe in the neighborhood. Great addition! Smoothies, coffees, sandwiches and salads. Great music and vibes.

The coffee and cake were amazing but the service was so so. The younger gentleman was much nicer than I think the "regular" cashier. Cute place though nice vibes.

This place was okay. I honestly felt like I could've made the turkey bacon at home. Paid $5 for 4 pieces. The French toast wasn't good. I would not recommend it. Paid $9.99 for 2 slices. This place is overpriced.

The food? Chef's kiss. The vibe? Cute! Literally such an underrated hidden gem. Small and cozy corner café with the food made fresh.

Cute setup, little tables, and that Paris mural on the wall. It totally gives that authentic Parisian feel. Staff was really helpful too, super welcoming. I got the hot chocolate and a Swiss chocolate croissant. The hot chocolate was smooth and really flavorful. Made with steamed milk, so it had that creamy texture right away. Not too sweet, more on the rich side, with a slight bitterness that balanced it out nicely. The croissant though... that was the highlight. Super flaky, layers just falling apart as you bite into it. Light and crispy on the outside, soft inside. The chocolate in the center was slightly melted and it balanced perfectly with the buttery pastry. Every bite had that mix of crunch and softness. Honestly, it took me back to my fall trip to Paris a bit. Just one of those simple, really good moments. I'd definitely come back.

The little name and title enticed me to make it a thing on some type of routine basis but...the first time that I visited ( although I've returned several times afterwards) I was received poorly. Meaning, the cashier really had a difficult time with placing pleasantries in their tone. I mean, give me patience for the $8 coffee I want. I show up here because it's decent to look at but don't give me no side eye for wanting oat milk with size 18 hips. I did feel a bit judged for my selection but!!!! The next visits I had were nice, however, what does that do for anyone? You want repeat customers? Remember to be nice the first time you meet one always. (Respectfully) The chocolate tart thing was good tho.

Fresh flowers to build your own bouquet, cards and books to buy. Dried pastas and gourmet sauces for sale as well as apothecary items. Soulful music wafting through the speakers, and friendly employees happy to service you. YES, this place is a vibe! Herbal teas with honey were a great choice of drinks for the day. Raspberry for me and chamomile for bestie. I chose the catfish with grits; fish, perfectly seasoned and crispy. The grits, a unique flavor on their own, creamy and delicious. I didn't have to add anything to them. The buttermilk biscuit was such a treat, a BIG one and I finished every bite. My best friend ordered the chicken quiche; she seemed to enjoy every bite. I know because the conversation stopped. She said the dressing for the salad was amazing. The star on her plate was the breakfast potatoes. Cute little squares of tender goodness seasoned to perfection. Yea, I'll be back!!!

Set in an old warehouse that is now an art gallery event space and restaurant nestled in an older warehouse district in Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. Beautiful decor and laid out perfectly. The natural wood floors furniture ie tables chairs etc and iron work throughout sets the ambiance for old meets new. It works. The wide spacing between tables makes for a comfortable dining experience. So many folks come in to do their work and dine here. What a super addition to the neighborhood that less than a decade ago was essentially a street that was more a run down semi-truck alley. Great menu with neighborhood favorites leaning toward the old school Italian dishes. Sandwiches, soups, salads, and breakfasts just to name a few are all excellent. The pastries are insane and a must take home deal. I love the American Breakfast. Three eggs your way, thick diced America potatoes, thick cut bacon, and sourdough toast. Accompanied by what I believe to be home made jelly and for sure homemade gardiniera. Caruso's gardiniera actually. Diced into a relish unlike most standard gardiniera it's easier to eat with many dishes. Excellent flavor and just the right kick to it. FYI Dolce Arte also sells a to go line of homemade Caruso products from their gardiniera to past and past sauces and more. Yes, their coffee is really good too. Lavazza products I believe. The service is always on point. Casual but on point. Very friendly staff from diverse backgrounds. This is the place you bring people close to you, business lunches, meetings, formal ir informal, or like me, save it for myself as my own getaway spot. It's an artists dream and sets a positive time for any gathering.

I guess this means that you could also tell the cashier something completely different and get charged a different price. Service is less than friendly, but efficient. I wish there were "for here" plating options. All prepared food is served in (compostable) to go boxes. This means that the garbages are frequently overflowing and you need to use disposable utensils.

We got the garlic chicken on French baguette. It was a creamy base and not something I would buy again. Glad we added cheese because there wasn't much to it. the other sandwich we bought was avocado turkey on Dutch crunch. It unfortunately had enough mayo to drown the restaurant. The amount of meat left much to be desired. We asked for chips which they had but only for online orders that came in. ??? Doesn't make sense to me. For 2 Sammie's, a salad and cake it was $45, just for a gauge of prices. The cashier was on the phone the entire time and couldn't hear what we said because of that. Kinda acted inconvenienced we were talking while he was on the phone. The restaurant is pretty chill and seemed like a workspace for people with art on the walls for sale. The art also had a thick layer of dust, and overall the dining room could use a good deep clean. The bathroom cleanliness was decent. This probably won't be another place I would seek out in the future.
