The shop is cluttered and small (in a cute way) but surprisingly filled with independent, contemporary brands, including really cool and creative styles you won't find anywhere else. The people who work there will spend ages helping you try things on (they literally spent two hours with me!!) without pressuring you at all. They really help you think beyond your facial flaws, and instead find glasses that express your personal style and show off your best features. And unlike some places they don't try to upsell you on lens features you don't need. Have gotten two pairs here, including sunglasses they did a lovely custom lavender tint for. I have been coming to this store for years now. I can count at least four pairs of glasses or eyeglasses that I have purchased from Joe. Prices are reasonable but I come because I know that Joe and his staff know how to help you select the proper frames for you. He is very straightforward about whether a pair fits you or flatters you. It's not about upselling a high end luxury product in order to make a profit. You often are given three frames to try on for both fit and style. From there, you might be going for at least 30 minutes to an hour in order to figure out what you want. The staff have grace, diplomacy, and patience! I am not decisive when it comes to frames, especially because they cost a lot. There is no hard sell either. If you aren't convinced, they do not push you to make a decision. There have been a few times where I just needed to go away and bring a friend back for her decision. Can't say enough great things about Joe and Optic Zone staff. I bought glasses from Optic Zone this summer and am pleased. As others have mentioned the reason to go to Optic Zone is to get Joe's advice (the owner). He is an expert at helping you find the right frames that match your face and style. He showed me about 15 pairs and was very patient. I'm happy with what we decided on. As someone else said, the pair I ended up choosing was one of the first few he suggested -- he's quick at finding the right pair. He even took into account my high prescription and had special insight into what frame dimensions were best suited, which is something no other store had mentioned to me. The store is small and crowded so make sure you go during non-peak time. If you don't want help picking your frames then I wouldn't go here. His prices are higher but the glasses are all excellent quality and you get his priceless advice. You might as well go to a Chinese optical, pick your own frames, and save money. I paid $460 for frames + lenses, 1.74 index. They were ready in about 1 week. I went back for one adjustment because they were sliding down and he quickly changed the nosepads and I've been fine since. As a minor bonus, the case and lens cloth he gives you are way better than anything I've received before. And refills on the cleaning spray are free. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the price is a bit higher. In an ideal world the prices would be lower, but it's OK, I think it's worth it. read more

Joe and his team did a fantastic job picking out at least a dozen frames that I loved. Don't expect someone to help you right away, as it's usually frantically busy, both with walk-ins and with phone calls. But patience is a virtue and it will pay off. I've gone back twice now, once to replace the nose pass and once to get additional frames. Joe remembered my face and it felt like he already had picked out new stock to fit. I went to the Optic Zone on a friend's recommendation and some glowing reviews online. Indeed, Joe and his employees are very nice and really have a knack for finding THE frames that fit you. They also have a nice selection of designer frames. That's where things started going downhill for me. Firstly, it took over a full month for the glasses to be made, despite being initially promised in 2 weeks max. The lenses were badly damaged when I took delivery so they had to order and make them again (another 2-3 weeks). Then it appeared Joe had written down the wrong measurement for the lenses, so new lenses had to be made. More weeks passed. This third set of lenses is so poorly crafted I can't wear the glasses due to dozens of tiny chips all around the edges, causing multiple reflections. Migraine generator, anyone? We're now over two full months since I initially ordered my glasses and, despite being offered a complete replacement (the frames are now damaged from all those lens changes), I'm getting a full refund and taking my business elsewhere. I've been wearing glasses all my life and never had to deal with such poor craftsmanship and delays. Despite being a nice guy, the problem with Joe is that he tries to take care of at least 3 customers at once and inevitably forgets things and makes mistakes, which are followed by more manufacturing mistakes and defects. read more

I had never been particularly happy with glasses and shopping for them prior to coming here. it seemed every place out there had the same bland frames that never seemed to fit right. I have a big head, so getting the right fit was tough. And going to some of the chain stores, everything they showed me in my size made me look like a grandfather, and I'm definitely not there yet. I went in with a friend to help me pick out stuff, and the woman who was on duty was a part timer at the time I believe, but she was so immensely helpful. She asked what I did for a living and looked at my face and then the magic started. She started whipping out all kinds of interesting frames and had me trying them on. I was trying on styles that I didn't know existed and didn't look like every other pair of glasses I had ever seen. I had it narrowed down to a couple nice ones and the friend I was with helped me make the final decision. I loved the frames I got here. They did mess up my lens order the first time (they weren't made transitions as ordered the first time), but they fixed it up no problem. I don't live in the area anymore, but I have considered arranging my schedule on a trip to the area just so I can get new glasses. As it is I got a one hour place locally to update my prescription in these lenses I was so happy with them. read more

Purchased a 2nd pair from them recently. I've read some negative reviews here on yelp commenting on perceived clutter among other things which struck me as utterly ridiculous. I've referred many friends and colleagues who were all delighted by the customer service and pricing as well as their advice. I find Joe and his staff to be extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. The best way to shop here is to have them present you with a few options as opposed to browsing yourself. They really know how to pick frames that best suit your face as well as your personal style. This place has a pretty good selection, as other reviewers have noted. I just couldn't get over the attitude of staff. They started out helpful enough, even quoting a discount. But I think they don't like when people don't take their suggestions. Shortly after I started looking at frames, they lost complete interest in me, and made a few negative comments about my style, frame choices, and even my job! Some people get value out of sales staff who tell them what's good for them, others prefer to choose on their own. This is the review of someone who bought two pairs of very expensive glasses here for the past 3 years. Customer service is good, no deposit required with the purchase. I have -9 vision both eyes, had to get thinnest lens, also has Asian nose bridge ( really low). Joe recommended a pair of salt plastic frame with added nose pads afterwards. He told me it would be FINE! Wearing this pair of frame was the worse experience in my entire life. The frame was too big so the whole weight is on my nose, and the added nose pad was too high, instead of changing the nose pad joe changed the focal point higher to adjust the low nose pad. Which made me wear the glasses really low on my face and pressure my nose A Lot! Went back to the store at LEAST 4 times, he NEVER FIXED THE FRAME. That been said I am done with this place, very very poor knowledge of glasses. Also the Nikon lens he sells DOES NOT HAS AUTHENTICITY, which is the laser on the lens. I CAN SAFELY SAY I DO NOT RECOMMEND OR I WILL EVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE. PLEASE STAY AWAY IF YOU ARE HIGH PRESCRIPTION OR HAS LOW NOSE BRIDGE. Trust me! read more

I had a great experience at this store. I went in, gave them a vague idea of what i wanted, and they took out all the frames that fit what I wanted. We went through each frame and they told me if it worked or not, and in the end I picked a really nice pair of glasses in about 1/2 an hour. I am going to be a customer for life. The best experience I've ever had buying glasses (twice). Firstly, they seem to have the best selection in the entire city - for such a small place, it's a miracle that they have such an incredible choice! They have everything from funky to high end designer frames. Every time I'm there people of every age group, from teens to seniors, seem to be leaving the store delighted with their new glasses . Secondly, they are the first place I've gone to in my nearly 60 years that got my prescription right the first time. I have always had to have lenses redone ( I must have a tricky prescription?) but both pairs of glasses from Optic Zone had lenses that were perfect. Their pricing ranges from competitive to less expensive than other stores, their staff are really good at selecting frames that work for your face, there is a casual fun vibe that makes the place almost festive, and Joe is terrific at adjusting glasses so that they sit comfortably. After coming to Yelp to find a place close to work where I could buy new glasses, it seemed that this might be the best option. The people were definitely helpful, attentive and understood that picking out a pair of glasses is not an easy task. Let me start out by saying that I hate wearing glasses; I do so only rarely and even then, only out of necessity. So as you can imagine, shopping for glasses gives me the opposite feeling that shopping for shoes or clothes does. Given all that, I ended up walking out relieved, yes, relieved that I had found some decent glasses and it wasn't a stressful situation at all. My only complaint is that there was some trouble with my prescription, which needed to be faxed to them. When I called them about it, they were a little curt about the whole thing and didn't bother to follow-up. I called to see if the glasses were ready and they told me that they hadn't even received the prescription! I had called them days earlier and told them that the prescription should be faxed within the hour, but no one bothered calling to ask that it be re-sent. I know that is expecting a lot, but given the initial level of service, it appeared to be like so many optometrist stores where they almost seem desperate for your money. Hence, the four instead of five star rating. Anyway, I'd consider going back here for glasses as there are many options and the assistance provided to help you pick out the frames is quite good, but I think I've found another place for my optic needs. read more

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my new frames!!! How I found the Optic Zone was I noticed an interior designer was sporting the most amazing look...hair, glasses, lipstick, face...everything worked like a movie star!! I asked where she got her glasses from...OPTIC ZONE! Never heard of it. Suddenly another designer, with non-descript hair, a non-descript face walked into the room with amaaaazing teal colored eyeglasses that matched her top and made her non-descript face POP!! and she said she got her glasses at the same place. Holy toledo, I couldn't get there fast enough...they told me how the owner Joe asks what you do for a living, looks at your face shape and like a maestro, starts opening and closing cupboards, drawers, nooks and crannies, magically selecting his suggestions for you. I loved everything he suggested and was amazed at the massive selection of eyewear...funky and traditional designs like I'd never seen before. I bought one of Joe's suggestions and was back two weeks later with my husband and son in tow - both are delighted with their gorgeous new frames and the discovery of Joe the Glasses Whisperer!! I had high hopes after reading so many favourable reviews. However, the staff limited what they felt I should try on, and the place is a cluttered disaster! When I found the very pair I came in for, I was told: "those do something bad to your face and make you look really old." Really? Is this in any way helpful? And coming from someone whose glasses were ill-fitting and was wearing black lipstick, I felt hesitant to take even her very best advice. I would have bought them. $390.00 walked out the door with me and I won't be back, no matter how special the selection. The staff is arrogant and hurried in their approach. Not once was I asked what I wanted, or was looking for. At the end of the day, if I love the way a certain pair of glasses look, what does she care? I didn't ask her opinion, nor did she about her lipstick. Fashion advice was not solicited nor welcome. And it has no place coming from a stranger with such a personal choice as glasses that will perch on my nose, not hers, every day. And to be clear, her opinion did not cause me to walk out: I am buying those very frames elsewhere. Optic Zone did not earn my money. read more
