As Great Smoky Mountain Visitors for 60 years, my wife insists on a multi-hour visit to Old Mill Square - she motivates me to arrive before the hordes, and great parking. We both like this store and explore various items. Caveat: visit before noon. Our adventures here and to adjacent restaurants may require 3-4 hours. read more

This review is limited to the general store. The Old Mill restaurant is reviewed separately. This is really one of your run of the mill souvenir shoppes where you can buy items to replicate some of the menus items of the Old Mill, T shirts, Christmas ornaments, Smoky Mountain gifts complete with black bears, and novelty gifts. There are hundreds of gift shops along the nearby parkway in this which is basically a souvenir trap. When we arrived there was a man singing on the outdoor porch playing a guitar and singing sounds. Great to set the atmosphere of this place. People here very friendly and helpful and service at checkout went well. Great place to pick up souvenirs for yourself and loved ones seeing that it sits directly opposite the Old Mill restauran. read more

We came at 3:45 and caught the lunch menu. Changes at 4 so be on time. Biscuits and corn fritters pretty good a 9. The fried chicken arrived juicy but a bit bland 9 The better half ordered the pork chop with gravy 10 for sure. The green beans were old fashioned for sure. I had sweet potato casserole and the other half had collards. 9 for sweet potatoes and 10 for collards. Great food gotta go get here for down earth good good food. Wow ! Haven't had good food in a while ! This place for sure hit the spot ! You get what you pay for ! All platters were huge and came with a side salad, cup of soup two sides and a dessert for 20.00 a plate you can't beat that ! Our server amber was beyond amazing ! The level of team work in a stressful busy busy restaurant such as this one did not go unnoticed ! We waited 45/ an hour and I'm so happy we did. Well worth the wait ! Wow- what a huge store filled to the brim with any gift you could possibly think up! My only ding is that all the stores here are not wheelchair friendly- which is a major bummer leaving my friend outside while we run through the shops. Inside- it's crowded with shoppers waiting for the restaurant and with merchandise. Tight squeezes past displays and people trying to see everything. I made a small purchase but was seriously tempted by some of the windchimes and bear merchandise! Checkout was surprisingly easy- with all the people shopping- there was no line! Lucky me. I did chuckle that me declining a bag had the cashiers confused. I carry a sling backpack just for sticking purchases in to skip the plastic. I think this store had my favorite Naked Bee line of lotions and bath goodies- but no bar soap (I buy all of them every time I see the bars). cool store- next time I may need to try the restaurant! read more

What a fun and exciting place to visit!! We stopped in here en route to looking at the other stores in the 'village'. We did not eat here, but on our next trip to Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg, we will get this into our schedule. Anytime a restaurant has a general store, or vice versa, there's a good chance you're getting yourself into something that will be a pretty good overall experience. Especially when said places have been around for a long time. First, I love the look of the store and restaurant. If this doesn't scream early 1900's (or earlier) nothing does. Vintage look and feel every where you look. Before you head in check the racks outside the main entrance for 50 - 75% off merchandise. Some pretty good selection and prices can be found here. As you make your way inside, this place is possibly even more cool. So that you have a chance to get a look and feel for everything choose a direction and move back and forth through the aisles. There are all sorts of little unique gift items from foods (jams, spices, sauces) to toys, cast iron cookware, clothing (some really cool t-shirts), and wooden post cards, yes - wooden post cards (don't worry they only require one stamp). We also, grabbed some of the syrup and a maple bacon bbq sauce for the next time we put some ribs on slow cook. Based on how everything else was, these may turn out to be the best ribs ever. Good prices, and friendly staff that are making sure you don't need help. Really cool store to grab some stuff for yourself or bring back some souvenirs. Will be back here again for sure! read more

I go there for their Old Mill food products, with my favorite being their white corn grits. They're the best I've ever had. Otherwise this is a nice general store with kitchen gadgets, home decor items, and a wide variety of goodies. I appreciate that they give a military discount, as well. read more

This place is really cool. The historic aspect of things like this I always find fascinating, coupled with fact that this place is still functional. They still make cornmeal as well as many other products. They make their own jams, jellies, seasonings, and barbecue sauces. They have a small toy section with old time toys (it's a small section, so if you are looking to add to a collection, or the like, this isn't the place for you.) If you want to get your kid a cork gun or an old metal jack in the box like you played with, they have it. They also have cast iron cookware, other cookware and kitchen items, and several other things that are fun to look through. They also have plenty of tourist stuff like post cards, shot glasses, shirts, mugs and all the kind of stuff you can get at a thousand other places around town. But, if you are looking for that stuff, it's a small shop and won't take long to look through, and you will enjoy the surroundings more than the other shops. It's a small store, and the shopping isn't really all that exciting, but it's fun to look around. Honestly, the charm in the place is really its historical value. Even if you don't care to shop there, it's cool to take pictures in front of, smell the old wood, feel the floorboards creak under your feet, and see the inner workings of an old mill. The buildings were intended to look authentic (barn / old time look & feel) which is nice. There are several great places to eat, fairly easy to navigate with a wheelchair, scooter or stroller. If you enjoy shopping while vacationing then this is good, we thought there would be more to see/learn about the mill. read more

Okay, go there . Lines are usually too long for me but I can understand why. Despite serving a lot of guests, the food quality is superb for Pigeon Forge. I have no patience for restaurants in Sevier County that skimp on quality because there are sooo many visitors...those restaurants are just money churns. It has been a long time since I last at The Old Mill but went there this afternoon and found all of the food hot, fresh, delicious...and certainly bountiful. Great course after course of corn chowder, fresh, cold salad with good dressing, hot breads with sweet butter, and fried chicken with vegetables for the main course. Price includes all the above plus dessert, which you can take with you if you are full as we were. The fried chicken dinner is hard to finish even for the biggest eater..three chicken breasts. I'm pretty critical and thought it was an excellent meal, good value and nice experience. However ... Slow to pick up the bussed plates and garbage which were stored on the service tables nearby. Nasty thing to sit next to, which I mentioned to the manager after dinner. All in all, I give it a B+ or A- which is extraordinary for most restaurants in the area. Go. Enjoy. read more
