What started as a simple stop turned into one of the more enjoyable experiences of our trip. The star of the visit was our guide, who took us on a cider journey through the various flavors and offerings. She was friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely seemed to enjoy what she was doing. She answered questions, explained the differences between the ciders, and made the tasting experience fun instead of feeling like a sales pitch. And since there's a chance she might somehow see this review: Happy 40th Birthday! Sorry I forgot your name, but your hospitality certainly wasn't forgettable. Now let's talk about the cider. Excellent. There was a large variety of flavors available to sample, making it easy to compare styles and find a favorite. Whether you're new to cider or consider yourself a seasoned enthusiast, there's enough variety here to keep things interesting. After sampling our way through the lineup, we wound up purchasing a glass of the original apple cider and enjoyed it outside. And honestly, that's where the experience really came together. Sitting outside with a fresh cider in hand, playing cornhole and Jenga, enjoying the atmosphere, and slowing down for a little while made for a genuinely relaxing afternoon. No rushing. No crowds pushing you along. Just good cider and good company. We also picked up a growler to bring back to the hotel because one thing became very clear during the tasting process: leaving empty-handed would have been a mistake. The Apple Barn Cider Mill does a great job creating an experience that's welcoming, fun, and memorable without feeling overly commercialized. Great cider. Great staff. Great atmosphere. Five stars. For example 2 heaping scoops of ice cream on a waffle cone was $4.99! 2 bottled waters were $2.14, when is the last time you got waters for that amount in a gas station or roadside store. Also picked up an iron patch since I collect them, it was only $3.99. We tried the blackberry cobbler, and black cherry flavored ice cream. Both were delicious. It was also hopping from people in the know about this ice cream spot. The staff was also very friendly. This was our first time ever visiting the smokies. So we asked what we should see with our short time in the area. She recommended a few of the trails and falls, but she mainly said we should she cades cove. We took her advise and she was right. It was beautiful and worth the drive. Definitely don't pass this place stop in and have an ice cream. FYI, another thing we didn't know is that our cell phones did not work out in the smokies, so Google maps was out. Luckily we talked to her and she got us on the right track and we were able to find it. We really appreciated it.

She did the same with the previous customer. Then she charged extra to put 1/2 lb in a smaller box even though she would have had to use a much larger box if she had placed all we purchased in one. This has nothing to do with the $$ but how the customer is treated. There many other locations available in the area that may not try to nickel and dime you.

If you like taffy, they have a huge assortment of taffy that is made onsite. You can also watch them making taffy, which is pretty neat. I'm more of a chocolate fan, so I go for the chocolate counter. I'm not crazy about the fudge, but the peanut butter cups, chocolate raspberry cremes, and other chocolates are awesome. The workers are friendly and helpful. If you happen to be there while they are making taffy, they will interact with you and explain what they are doing. There is also a gift shop upstairs, but I've never gone up there to look around. Sadly, I just finished the last of my chocolate today. Can't wait to return next year!

I picked 3 stars instead of 5 because part of our plans that day was to eat at the restaurant based on hours posted on the web, but the restaurant was closed. So instead, we went in a side room and bought 2 fried apple pies to at least have something to carry back to our timeshare room. They were by far the worst fried pies either of us have ever eaten; the filling wasn't very good and the crust was even worse. They are great at the orchard side of the business but maybe the cook was having a really off day. We will go back again if in the area but only to buy apples, produce, and jar items.
